//-------------------------------------------------------// Sour Sweet, Sweet Gift -by FourShadow- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Sweet Gift //-------------------------------------------------------// Sweet Gift It was the start of Christmas break, only five days away until Christmas Eve, and then Christmas Day. Everyone was finished with school, and they were now on their way to enjoy a long merry holiday. The Shadowbolts of Crystal Prep couldn't have been any happier with the break. Crystal Prep pushed the students hard when they worked, and now they were able to breath and relax. Five Crystal Prep students, Sugarcoat, Indigo Zap, Sunny Flare, Lemon Zest, and Sour Sweet were walking together through the blissfully snowy day, on their way to Sunny Flare's house. They were going to have a giant sleepover, and they couldn't have been more excited. Upon walking into the home of Sunny Flare's, the girls took off their snow boots and rested them on a towel for them to dry. Their jackets were hung up, and everyone started to kick back in the living room. "I'll go start up some hot chocolate." Sunny smiled. "Want me to help? Preferably so you didn't burn yourself like last time." Sour asked sweetly and grumbled. "I'd appreciate your help dearie." While Sour and Sunny got started on the hot cocoa, Sugarcoat and the other girls were getting slippers and were putting on a program on the television. "So, new episode of the Crystal Gems is on soon. Anyone want to watch that?" "Yes." "Just put it on." Back in the kitchen, Sunny Flare had just finished brewing some hot chocolate. She poured the drink into two different coffee mugs, one for herself and the other for Sour Sweet. Sunny offered the cup to Sour which she kindly accepted. "Mmm..." Sunny said, sipping at her drink. "This tastes delicious Sour. How'd you do it?" "Sunny, I've made hot cocoa for many years. Its pretty much acclimated to me at this point." Sour said. "True, true. But offtopic, Christmas. With it coming up in a week, and all of us are not going anywhere for the holiday... we thought about maybe throwing a bit of a Christmas party, all of us together, you know? Family and friends?" "Yeah?" "Well, I thought maybe you'd like to come and maybe Smallfoot would like to come and join us?" Sour took another sip. "She is a friend, after all. Well friend to us, we know she's uh... your partner." Sour couldn't help but smile at the thought. Smallfoot was the girl she felt most close to. She was set up with her by Sunny and the rest of her friends in an attempt to deprive Sour of the loneliness. And without a hitch, Sour and Smallfoot started to interact, they hooked up, and they had been happy ever since. "I'd love to. She doesn't really have anything planned around this time of the year... b-but maybe I should ask her first, I don't want to just force this on her." "Of course dearie." Sunny nodded. "Oh, I'll be right back." She left the kitchen, leaving Sour Sweet alone in her thoughts. Maybe now with her alone in the kitchen, she could call her girlfriend? She pulled out her cellphone and dialed in the number. Right away, she got an answer. "Hello?" "Hey baby, its me." Sour smiled. "Sweetness, hey! How are you? How did the last day go?" "Pretty good. And without Principal Cinch, we got crazy!" Sour giggled. "Sounds like a blast babe. So, what's up?" "Oh, right, I remembered, uh... Sunny and her family is throwing a big Christmas party on Christmas Eve, and I wanted to know if you wanted to join us. I know you don't really have any plans, so... I wanted to ask, if maybe, you'd like to come?" Sour asked nervously. She waited for a reply, for a moment or two. "I'd love to!" "Really?" "Yeah! I have nothing else going, and no one around, so why not spend it with my friends?" "Yes! So, I'll see you then?" Sour asked. "Yeah! Oh scrap, I gotta go. I'll catch you later, okay?" "Okay babe. See you later then?" "Yeah. I love you sweetie." Smallfoot said in the sweetest voice ever. Sour blew her a kiss and she hung up. She leaned against the countertop and sighed. She had the sweetest girl in the entire world, and she was all hers. Sunny came back around the corner. "Oh good, Sunny! I called Smallfoot, she said yes! She agreed to come for the Christmas party!" "Perfect!" Sunny nodded. Sour raised her mug up and took another sip. "Which reminds me dearie, everybody's got the gifts for everyone. Did you find one for Smallfoot yet?" Over in the other room, everyone stopped when they heard the sound of a drop of glass shattering, accompanied by the screams of pain and agony. Quickly the girls got up and they dashed to the kitchen with a look of shock. "Well, I know what Sour's doing for Christmas." Indigo cringed. "Pulling shards of glass out of her bloody feet?" Lemon asked. "No Lemon, she's gonna go prancing around naked in front of Neon Lights' house." Sugarcoat bluntly replied. After half an hour of trying to sweep up the broken glass, along with covering up the huge burn marks on Sour and Sunny's legs, everyone was now sitting in the living room drinking hot cocoa. But Sour on the other hand couldn't think, and she was now pacing back and forth. "I can't believe this, I can't believe I didn't think about this! What kind of girlfriend am I!?" Sour panicked. "Sour, your mind was focused on passing all of those exams that were thrown at you. Its perfectly reasonable that you didn't have time to--" "No its not!" Sour snapped. Indigo nearly jumped back. Sour's teeth were like daggers by now. "I can't do that, I got to get a gift for my girl. She means everything to me, and if I don't have one then... what kind of girlfriend am I?" Sour slumped down in one of the bean bag chairs. "Wow Sour... you look really stressed out." Lemon said with a hint of empathy. "Gee, you think?" Sour grumbled. "Sour. Look, its not a big deal. All we got to do is hit the mall, and find something she'd like. The mall should be open tomorrow, we'll have plenty of time." Sour scowled. "At this time of the year? Do you know how insane people are when they go shopping at this time? And for that matter, I'm pretty sure its gonna be too late." "Sour, this isn't like the time back in 9th grade." Indigo replied. "Easy for you to say! You weren't trampled on like a pack of elephants." "It wasn't that bad--" "I still got the boot marks on my butt!" Sour complained. Sunny rubbed her forehead. "Sour, listen to me. Just stay calm. We're gonna help you, because we're your friends. That's what friends do for each other, right?" "Technically." "Yeah!" "Of course!" "I guarantee you, you are going to find the perfect gift." Sunny nodded. "But... but how?" Sour asked. Sugarcoat tapped her chin, and snapped her fingers. She walked up from her seat on the couch and over to her backpack. She pulled out a sheet of notebook paper, a folder for a hard surface, and a pencil. "How about this; write down everything you know about her, including her interests and disinterests. This might help us narrow down what she likes." Sugarcoat offered. "Actually, I... I kind of have a list of that. I keep it with me everyday." Sugarcoat blinked. "... And you keep it with you, why?" "I have the worst memory on Earth, and I wrote notes to remember what my girl likes and things I shouldn't do, okay? But I'm actually going to need that extra sheet, there are some more notes I thought of that I need to continue." She pulled a slip of paper from her pocket and unfolded it. She squinted her eyes and she muttered something incomprehensible. After a moment of nothing but muttering, she took the pencil and paper, and she began to write. And as she wrote, the girls continued to watch the cartoon that played on the TV. Sour scribbled away really hard on the paper, and everyone could practically see the steam coming from the pencil and her own head as she wrote. "Are you writing notes, or are you writing a research paper?" Lemon asked. "Don't push me Lemon, or this pencil goes right in your cornea!" Indigo rubbed her eyebrows. "I think I now see why Smallfoot questions our friendship..." Sour finished writing, and she slammed the pencil against the paper. "Done." "Okay, lets see it." Sour laid the paper and folder against the table. Sunny Flare grabbed the paper, and everyone gathered around to take a look. "I took notes of everything ever since we started dating. I took notes of what she likes, doesn't, things to do around her, things not to do, and other important notes about her that I wanted to know." Lemon, got up and she opened her arms up. "Someone need a hug?" "A hug would be nice..." Sour whimpered. "Come here..." Sour accepted the hug, and Lemon wrapped her arms around her, patting her back. "Its okay ya teddy bear. Look, what you've got is amazing. You've got an amazing girl, and you know it. I'm sure you can find the best gift." Lemon Zest said looking her in the eye. "You're serious?" "I'm deadly serious Sour. I'm not joking around. I know, usually I'd make some crude jokes, but... I'm not gonna joke when you need help." Sour smiled with a tear jerking in her eye. "T-Thank you..." "Aww, come here!" Lemon gave her another hug. It wasn't long until the rest of the girls started to gather around and offer hugs as well, all joined in for one giant group hug. After a few more moments, they backed away. "So... have we revived your faith in yourself?" Sugarcoat asked. "Mmmhmm." "So what are we waiting for!? We've got a gift for a girlfriend to find!" Indigo cheered. The very next day, the girls hit the mall. All around, they could see people running around and going through the stores in and out, trying to make it out fast with their final holiday shopping. "You know, I never did like going to the mall. Its so full and stuffy, and people are always in a hurry." Sugarcoat stated. "If you didn't like them, why did you come with us?" Indigo asked. "Because Sour needs help, and I am going to make sure she succeeds in her mission." Sugarcoat replied. "Well, where should we stop first?" Sunny asked. Sour looked up high above, staring at the people going about their day on the upper decks above, seeing some of the other workers and shop owners running their businesses. "This place is so crowded, I don't even know if there's a place to go." Sour whined. "Sour!" Indigo held her and slapped her face. "Ow! Indigo!" "Look at me!" She pulled her up close and got right up in her face. "Um... Indigo, this is a little--" "Look. At. Me. In all of the struggles you've faced, you never gave up. Did you give up on that last quest in the online game of Quest Of The West?" "No..." Sour replied. "And did you give up when your girlfriend got the case of the flu and you wanted to make her better?" "No." "And did you give up when your insane ex-boyfriend Steel Blade returned from the past to haunt you again, did you let him hurt your girlfriend like the psychopath that he is!?" "NO!" "Exactly! Why? Because Sour Sweet never gives up, and she never goes down. She never gives up, she's always there!" Indigo cheered. Sour gave a bit of a weak smile. "Fighting for freedom over land and... air?" "Yes! You got it!" "You're right! Come on!" Sour said, leading her team away. For about five seconds to turn around. "The escalator's the other way, my bad..." Sour blushed. After a few minutes, the girls decided to take the escalator up a floor. Better stuff seemed to be on the upper floor. So the girls stood on the steps, waiting for arrive on the top. "Sour, are you sure about this? Isn't Smallfoot working today? She's gonna think something's up." Lemon asked. "Lemon, I can come up with the best excuses yet. I just need to be able to pull off a cover without hurting her feelings or hinting that I haven't gotten her anything. You want to keep the mystery alive with a bit of hope." Sour replied. "Huh. So that's why I keep scaring off girls at CHS." Lemon nonchalantly said. "No, you keep scaring them off because you keep approaching them with a perverted demeanor." Sour scowled The girls made it to the top, and walked along the deck and looked down below on the bottom floor. They could practically see the giant Christmas tree sparkling with all of the spotlights around it. Around the corner, they found the sign above the entrance to Smallfoot's workplace. The sign read 'Instrumental Feedback'. Upon walking inside, they could hear music playing on the speakers above. All around there were musical instruments on display, and some in display cases. And there were old pieces of technology in the display cases, some for sale, some were not. And in several shelves were CDs, gift cards, earphones, and all sorts of music related technology. "As usual, the place looks amazing and well organized." Sugarcoat replied. "Heads up, coming through!" The girls stepped out of the way in shock. Flying right past them was a record taped up inside of a record holder, and it flew right past them like a throwing star into one of the shelves. "Geez, you could have taken someone's heads off with that!" Indigo gasped. "Look out!" "Hit the deck!" The girls ducked and they watched as more record players flew right over them, and hit perfect places right on the shelves and without damage. Getting back up, they turned to look at the girl who flung the records with perfect accuracy. "Hey girls, what's up?" Standing in work clothes was someone none other than Smallfoot. While she was in work clothes, she did have a few visible items that weren't part of her work clothes. A green visor covering her eyes, a gold necklace that had a wrench and a hammer crossing, and two matching bracelets on her wrists. She had gray skin, with splendid red hair that hung over her back, and puffed on the top. "Smallfoot!" Smallfoot grinned. "Hey babe, what's up?" Smallfoot collected another stack of records that were on a display case, and she walked towards a ladder to put them up on the higher shelves. "We just wanted to see how you were doing. You look pretty busy." "I guess you can say that, yeah. But I don't mind, I love my job!" Smallfoot smirked as she pushed herself on the ladder, across to another shelf. "Okay, well, don't mind us, we're just gonna go look around." Sour called up. "Okay babe! Just be careful with what you say to the manager, okay? It is a public place after all." "Of course silly." Sour giggled. As Smallfoot went straight to work, Sour started to look around. Oh so many things, so much stuff she could find, what could her girlfriend want? And more importantly, what could she get that her girlfriend didn't have already? Knowing her position, she could be open to having a discount on whatever she wanted. But maybe the manager could know... She walked up to the front cash register, and she looked at the man who stood behind the desk. "How may I help you?" Sour looked back to her girlfriend who was still busy away at work, and she looked back to the man and whispered. "Okay, I need to buy something for my girlfriend for Christmas, but unfortunately, I don't even know if she's bought something for herself." Sour whispered. "Did Smallfoot ever check out anything or tell you anything that she's bought?" "I believe I can help you. Now so far she hasn't bought anything for herself in here, nothing." "Really? Nothing?" "I told her she would have a discount and was free to buy whatever she wanted in here, but she just told me she was saving her money to pay for her future and to buy stuff for you." "Really? For me?" The manager nodded. "Aww, that's so sweet... but back to my point, did she..." "No, I think you're safe." Sour sighed. "Good. Now, do you have anything in here that I could get for her?" "Like what?" "Well, my girl really loves 1980s music, and I wanted to find her good tapes of those. And if its all possible, maybe something she could play them on..." The manager scratched his chin and snapped his fingers. "I believe I can help you with that. Tell you what, come by when she's off-duty, and you'll be able to pick it up without her knowing." "Really? Thanks, that's really appreciated." "Hey, helping people's what I'm all about." The manager shrugged. "Anything else I can help you with?" "I don't think so, no. I'll come back later when she's not around and I'll pick it up." "Alright then. Have a nice day miss." "Thanks. And you too." Sour nodded as she walked off with the rest of the girls. Smallfoot turned and looked at Sour with a smile on her face as she watched Sour leave the store. Sour stopped at the entrance and she looked back at her girlfriend and blew her a kiss. Smallfoot giggled and blew one back. Christmas Eve Tonight was the big Christmas party. Everyone was invited to Sunny Flare's house for the big party, mostly because her house was big enough to host a ton of guests. The Shadowbolts had all shown up to the party, and each of them were dressed in some form of Christmas wear. Sour Sweet in the group, wore a big fuzzy red and green sweater, but she kept the cherry and mistletoe band that held her hair in a ponytail. She thought it looked festive on her. "Okay, so, when's your girlfriend gonna get here?" Like the flick of a switch, the doorbell rang. "Oh, that must be her right now." Sunny approached the door, and she closed an eye to peak out the peephole. She smirked and she opened up the door. Standing at the door with several bags clinging to her, and one box in her arms was Smallfoot. "Smallfoot, hey!" Sunny smiled. "Hey Sunny. Um... you mind if I can put this down somewhere... I... I think I'm gonna..." "Oh, right!" Sunny offered open hands and she helped set the gifts down on the ground, letting her arms open. "Whew. That was close. I felt like I was gonna collapse." Sunny raised an eyebrow. "You know... you could have just taken several trips to carry all of the gifts in." Smallfoot rubbed her temples. "I know, but I think I wanted to get out of the cold as soon as possible. I'm not exactly dressed for the outdoors tonight." Indeed she wasn't. Smallfoot wasn't exactly dressed for the winter outside. She was dressed in a short sleeved button-up plaid shirt that was tucked into her jeans. Her hands were covered in red fingerless gloves, exposing her gray fingers. Her green glasses stayed on her face, along with the golden necklace. She had blue jeans, and winter boots. "So, you're not going festive?" Sunny asked. Smallfoot opened up her plaid shirt, revealing a T-shirt underneath that had a Christmas tree graphic on the front. "I got it for the occasion silly." Smallfoot giggled. Sour turned around the corner and her eyes beamed. "Baby!" "Hey Sourball!" Sour leaped up at her girlfriend with so much giddiness. Her happy demeanor was so adorable, it was impossible for Smallfoot to not smile at that. She embraced her girlfriend in a giant hug and giggled as she nuzzled her. "Its so great to see you!" "Why would I miss an opportunity to spend the holidays with my beautiful girl?" Smallfoot asked, kissing her cheek. Sour blushed. "I'm not that beautiful..." "Oh don't deny it, you know you are." Smallfoot said with a sassy voice. Sour giggled. "Okay... Oh, uh, babe? You mind if uh, I have a moment alone with the girls? I just need to finish wrapping up your gift, and then I will pass it to you." Smallfoot grinned. "Okay then Sourball. Can't wait to see what you got me." Smallfoot left her girlfriend to attend to her final wraps. Sour sighed. Now the coast was clear. "Okay... I've got the gift, its all wrapped up... I think..." Sour reached underneath a chair that was draped with a blanket, and she pulled out a gift. The gift was completely sealed in candy cane wrapping paper, and there was a ribbon that was sealing it all together. "You think she'll love it?" Sunny asked. "I... I think she's gonna hate it and hate me!" Sour panicked. The girls groaned. Not again... "Sour come on, you can't give up!" Indigo complained. "You're panicking way too much." Sugarcoat rubbed the temples of her forehead. "Yeah come on Sour butt!" Lemon joked, giving a light slap to her behind. "Hey!" Sour blushed. "Don't do that!" "Sour... I want you to listen to me. Take a deep breath..." Sugarcoat said, staring Sour dead in the eye. Sour did as asked, and took a deep breath. "Inhale... and exhale." Sour let out an exhale of breath. "Inhale... and exhale." Sour repeated the process. "You feel calm now?" "Yeah. I do." Sour nodded. Sugarcoat for once, gave a smile. "Now show your partner the best gift that you've ever gotten her." Sugarcoat replied. "Yeah, you can do it!" Lemon grinned. She raised her hand up again-- "Slap my butt again, and I will snap your neck." Sour growled. Lemon immediately retreated her hand back. After another inhale and exhale, Sour had finally calmed herself down. Sugarcoat's words had given her a boost of confidence and a rise in her heart. "Okay. Here goes nothing..." She grabbed the present, and wandered off to find her girlfriend. The girls were left with a bit of smiles on their faces. "I have a feeling she's going to be alright." Indigo said. "What if those two get a little... wild in there?" Lemon said with a flirty grin. "Oh shut it Lemon." Sugarcoat snapped. "Okay, okay... just saying, if those two get a little hot, I think I want some of that." Lemon wiggled her eyebrows. Indigo's eyes widened. "Why would you want to do that with Sour and Smallfoot?" "I'm a little pervy..." Lemon blushed. Indigo facepalmed. "I don't need to hear any more of this..." As the party went on, everyone started to spread the dessert around and open up gifts that were given to each other. Gifts were unwrapped, and not to mention tons of cookies and other sweets were being eaten. In a fireplace room, away from the crowds of people, Sour Sweet found a spot where she could talk to her girlfriend in peace, only with the sounds of the crackling fire from the fireplace. Smallfoot leaned in and gave her girlfriend a kiss on the cheek, making her girlfriend's cheeks heat up. Ever kiss from Smallfoot was pure heaven. "I really love spending time with you sweetie." Smallfoot said, nuzzling her cheek. Sour let out a giggle. "Me too. And actually, if you don't mind... I uh... I got you a little something." Sour took the gift that was wrapped up, and she put it in her girlfriend's lap. "A little something?" Smallfoot giggled. "Well, come on, open it up!" "But, isn't tomorrow Christmas Day? Shouldn't I open it tomorrow?" "Sweetheart... I want to be here when you open up that gift. I want you to see the gift that I got you... also the adults here said that it was okay to open up these gifts." Sour chuckled. Smallfoot rolled her eyes with a grin and she started to unwrap the paper. She tore through the colorful paper, and finally uncovered her gift. In her lap, with another ribbon wrapped around it, was a hand-held cassette player, colored in green and red. And there was a tag on it that read 'To my special girl'. Smallfoot couldn't believe her eyes. This was... this was... "B-Baby?" "Sour, I..." A big smile graced Smallfoot's face along with a squee. "I LOVE IT!" Sour was in shock. "Y-You do?" "I love it! Baby, this is so amazing, I... How did you even know?" Sour looked her in the eye. "Well, I... I remembered you told me that you had several cassettes of your favorite music when you were younger, and... I know you don't have anything to play them now, so I thought I'd get you something that could actually play your cassette tapes." Smallfoot looked at her partner with the most adorable smile on her face. She pulled her in and gave her a big passionate kiss on her lips. Every kiss with Smallfoot was another example of pure heaven for Sour, especially since her lips tasted like sweet candy. "Baby, I love it!" Smallfoot cooed and she nuzzled her cheek again, making her giggle. "Well... what about now?" Sour pressed the play button on the player. Inside, Smallfoot could see a cassette within, that had a sticker reading 'To my love'. In seconds, the tape began to play, and Sour's voice came out of the speaker. "Happy holidays, to my dearest Smallfoot. I hope you treasure this gift, as much as I treasure you. You are the most beautiful girl in the world... and no other can compare. You are the most wonderful girl I have in my life... and I don't want you to forget it. You are my Big Rig... and my beautiful girl. I love you sweetness... and I hope you love this gift, just like I love you." Smallfoot's eyes teared up, and she couldn't help but smile. "Baby... this is... this is so beautiful..." Sour wanted to reply back, but she was caught in a gigantic hug from her girlfriend catching her off guard. But she was only in shock for a brief second, before embracing the hug, nuzzling her. Smallfoot pulled out and gave her a kiss. "Sweetness, this is amazing... I love it!" Smallfoot said, her eyes tearing up in joy. "It, its nothing..." Sour stuttered. "Sour, this is amazing." Smallfoot smiled, wiping her tears away. Sour had finally felt herself at ease. Her girlfriend loved the gift she got her, and she felt the weight of the world getting off of her shoulders. "Oh, wait!" Smallfoot went to her own side and she pulled out her gift, with a tag that said 'Sour Sweet'. "I didn't forget, but... I got you a little something too." "Aww, Smallfoot... you shouldn't have..." "Sour, you deserve it. You do." Smallfoot smiled. "Well, come on! Open it up!" Sour giggled and she undid the ribbon that held the entire box together. Once it was undone, she pulled the top cover of the box off and set it to the side. Looking in the box she gasped and cupped her mouth. She couldn't have... She grabbed the gift and pulled it out of the box. Tears were visible on her own face as well in pure shock of the gift. In her hands was a white teddy bear, big enough for her to hug. It had little blue eyes and a small blue bow tie. "You... you got me..." "You told me that whenever you felt lonely or sad, you would have that teddy bear with you to hug because when you had it, you never felt alone. You had a little friend to vent to whenever you were down. Mr Woogle Wogle, I think?" Smallfoot asked. Sour's eyes teared up. "Aw, Smallfoot!" Smallfoot blushed a bit. "Y-You like it?" "Its adorable!" Sour Sweet gave the bear a big hug, and she yanked Smallfoot down to her and gave her a big kiss. Smallfoot accepted her kiss, and she wrapped her arms around her girlfriend, holding her in a warm embrace. "Baby... I love you." Sour cooed. Smallfoot blushed and she gave her girlfriend a kiss, before allowing her to snuggle up right next to her, holding her close. "I love you too Sour. Merry Christmas." Sour looked up and nuzzled her cheek. "Merry Christmas Smallfoot." With the teddy bear held under her arm, she was pulled in close under Smallfoot's embrace, while Sour moved a fuzzy blanket over the both of them, keeping them warm as they sat by the fire. And the comfort of each other underneath the blanket, along with the love they shared was all they needed. Author's Note Early Christmas Gift for you guys!
