Thorax walked slowly back to his room with a smile on his face. He was humming softly. He had just finished a nice lunch with many of his friends from around the hive, and it was a great day. The vines and plants that decorated the hive were growing nicely and a few were even beginning to flower. Thorax stepped out of the sunlight as he descended into the tunnels. After the throne had been broken, the magic that shifted the tunnels had stopped, so it was much easier to get around. Pharynx said that meant the hive was more vulnerable, but Thorax felt perfectly safe. Sometimes Pharynx seemed to worry too much. Thorax worried that Pharynx still wasn’t quite fitting in with the rest of the hive, even if he seemed more respected than feared now.
Thorax reached his room. He parted the curtain that covered the entrance. Pharynx was sitting on his bed with an odd look on his face. Thorax blinked to make sure he wasn’t imagining it. He smiled warmly and stepped over by his brother.
“Pharynx! How are things going? Is something wrong?”
Pharynx’s expression was a bit unreadable. Thorax guessed it was somewhere between his impatient and annoyed looks, but there was something else to it to that he hadn’t seen before. He cleared his throat.
“It’s nothing urgent or about the hive.”
“Ah, good. I was hoping to have a relaxing afternoon. I worked hard this morning to make sure everything important got done, but I have time to help you with whatever you need.”
Pharynx growled and shifted around on the bed. Thorax gave him a questioning look.
“Fine, come closer and I’ll tell you.”

Pharynx sighed then whispered. “Promise me you won’t tell anyone else. Then I’ll tell you.”
“Fine. I promise. Now what’s so secret that you have to see me in my room?”
“It’s just that… everyone’s still scared of me. I’ve been feeling frustrated and hoped someone would help. For a bunch of love-filled changelings, it sure is hard to find some types of love.”
Thorax raised an eyebrow. “Just what sort of love are you looking for?”
“Certainly not the emotional kind. Before things changed, I could easily get anyone for some fun.”
“I think they still need some time to feel safe around you even if you’ve changed.”
