Thirty Three
Prologue: What Have You Done?
Load Full Story*932 A.D. (After Discord), Luna Solaris's home*
Luna Solaris inhaled the oxygen around her slowly, her patience wearing thin as she glared at her older sister; her icy blue eyes sent a shiver down Celestia's spine who began to wring her hands nervously while her tail flickered awaiting Luna's response.
She was wearing a set of loose black sport pants with a white strap shirt on top. Her older sister was wearing a blue-ish t-sleeved blouse and white long skirt that ended just above her knees.
Luna noticed that her clothes looked a little discolored and worn out, and did not match her set of sneakers.
Luna's left hand reached for her beer that sat on top of the table they sat near, she brought it to her lips as she took a long, much needed swallow of the alcohol ignoring Celestia's disapproved frown. As far as Luna was concerned her drinking habits were the last thing that should be talked about at the moment.
"You were gone for six weeks, six fucking weeks, Tia. No letters, phone calls, not even a damn good bye. We have two ponies to look after, they are six years old and yet you come in out of the blue with not only a look of shame but a dragon, a fucking rep-"
"Don't call him that. You know how much I hate that word, Lulu." Celestia's sharp and heated tone caused Luna to pause, gritting her teeth she gripped the bottle in her hand tightly before taking another sip and slammed it down with a bit more force than necessary.
"Our parents were killed by his kind, Celestia. Sure, they helped us in the war against the griffins five years ago, I'll give them that but to just bring one into our house? Our home and act like he'll be accepted with open arms is beyond ridiculous. What am I supposed to tell Cadance and Blueblood? That they'll warm up to him in time? Dragons and ponies don't mix, Tia. Period." Luna angrily spat, her large wings fluttering slightly on her back as she flicked her tail and snorted.
"We just need a couple of days, Lulu. I'll be searching long and hard for a job, I swear. We'll eat whatever you give us and won't say a word but if you want us gone so damn badly then we'll leave and live in cardboard boxes." Celestia's tone was so serious and laced with sorrow it caused her sister to turn her eyes from the wooden table in front of her to gaze into Celestia's amethyst colored eyes as she gave another loud sigh and a soft chuckle.
"Mom always said you were impulsive...our race goes from riches to rags in only two hundred years and it all thanks to the race of that hatchling that's sitting on our couch and those greedy beaked bastards and you find it in your heart after trying to 'find your identity' and you bring one of the most hated races in the country to our doorstep. That sounds just like you, Celly. Why not just run an orphanage why you're at it?" Luna joked, looking at the way Celestia's hands tighten together in front of her, not making eye contact.
"I know what I did was...wrong, Luna. I went on a bit of a wild streak, you didn't deserve that-"
"You have any fucking idea how hard I had to work to feed three mouths?! No, you don't because you felt that it was more important to party it up like everypony else after the war-"
"I know Luna!" Celestia screeched, causing Luna to jump in surprise, a frown on her face as she closed her eyes and brought the bottle up to take another sip.
"Is this because of what happened to Sombra? You can't blame yourself that he died in that hellscape. A lot of mares are widows now you know, not just you. If it's because of the miscarriage you had-"
"Don't...please." Celestia begged, her whisper and the painful, raw emotion in her eyes caused Luna to stop immediately.
There was an awkward pause as Celestia finally reached over and grasped the neck of the beer bottle in front of her, taking a small sip while Luna placed her hands over her face with a loud groan.
"Ponies...won't like this, Tia. You'll be spat at, called harsh, cruel names, harassed maybe even worse. I can't lose you." Luna pleaded to her sister softly, almost desperately as Celestia glanced up and Luna saw a face of determination and convention she had not seen on any mare since their mother.
"And I can't lose him. Before I found him in the dumpster I was heaving my guts next to and avoiding another shallow one-night stand, I had no clear direction with my life. Our brother gave his life for our country and we swore to take care of his son and like the dragon in our home, we didn't have to take Cadance in, especially since we could barely afford to feed ourselves but we did. And that's what I'll do for him. He's my son, Luna. He may not be my flesh and blood but I'll always treat him as such. So if you want us gone...then just say the word." Celestia's voice was passionate and unwavering, making Luna feel terrible as her ears dropped and she gave a shake of her head.
"In another life, you would have made a great ruler, Tia." Luna spat with a wave of her hand and a chuckle.
"I would have needed my sister even more then ever if that was the case...please, Luna." Celestia begged softly as Luna slowly swallowed down the saliva in her throat before pinching her fingers to the bridge of her nose with a groan.
"Two weeks, you have two weeks to find-"
Luna didn't get to finish as she was cut off by the ear shattering squeal of joy the older alicorn gave as Celestia lunged for the midnight furred mare and gave her a bone cracking hug.
"Thank you, thank you. Thank the gods for you, Luna." Celestia praised over and over making the mare being smothered roll her eyes with a weak laugh.
"Yeah, yeah. Just don't expect the kid to start calling me Aunt Luna anytime soon, ok? I'm serious though, Tia. You better start hitting those streets hard, it's tough in the market right now." Luna muttered right before she was let go and was allowed precious oxygen that her lungs craved.
"I'll start first thing in the morning. I swear. No more mopping or parities, you'll be seeing a new side of me, promise to the gods themselves." Celestia replied, holding a hand to her heart with a smile as Luna rolled her eyes.
"Got any thoughts? On what you going to look for and what to tell Caddy and Blue of their new, scaled cousin?" Luna asked gently as she sat back down and took another sip of her drink.
"I...was thinking I might try my hand at writing again, more of a company then self publish like last time, we both know how well that turned out and you know how much I love writing." Celestia answered slowly causing Luna to give a harsh chuckle and shake of her head at the memory.
"I know Freedom Wings might be looking for a pony, you always did have talent in that field, Celly, so I have no doubt you'll do well. The C.E.O. Twilight Velvet always encourages new writers in her company so I could keep my ear to the ground if something opens up. And our family?" Luna questioned with an eyebrow raised making Celestia give another sincere smile.
"They'll have to learn how to be there for their new cousin, I'm sure they'll be great at bonding together, given time." She answered reaching for the bottle of her glass to take another sip.
"The drake got a name, sis?" Luna spat annoyed with a snort and flicker of her tail.
"Spike...Spike Solaris."
