Lapis comes to town

A small, cute yak brought Lapis breakfast in the morning. "I don't need food."

"You sure?" the calf asked. His adorable eyes shone with childlike curiosity.

"I'm sure," the gem insisted.

In response, he shrugged and began to eat the tiered yak cake. "So how long will you stay with yaks?" he wondered.

"I don't know. I'm supposed to, but I don't."

"Why are you here?"

"I just wanted some time to think. I might be here forever, or until the earth is destroyed. I suppose as soon as the war is over, but it's going to be hard to find that out."

"What is war?" The young yak asked innocently.

Lapis sighed. "I'll show you, but only because I'm bored." She left her hut and walked out into the snow. The calf started to follow her, but stopped when she held up a hand and said, "Wait." He grumbled and kicked a wall. It hurt. She returned with a ball of snow, which she melted and spread across the floor. It glistened and shimmered, making a bluesy sound and showing an image. In the image, a tall brutish gem stood ready for a battle opposite a thin, spindly gem. They ran towards each other.

The yak smiled. "Oh, they're going to give each other a hug!"

"No! Watch." The spindly gem pulled a spear from her forehead and stabbed at her opponent. The brutish gem summoned a helmet and used it to block the attack.

The yak shrugged. "I see. They're trying to horn bump without horns!" The image vanished.

Lapis frowned intensely. "You don't get it, do you?" The yak shook his head. "Just leave me alone..."

"Okay." The calf turned up his cuteness to overload levels. One would almost call him gigacute, because his eyes and mouth seemed to defy reality in how cute they were. He had a face that would launch one thousand cuteness nukes into the most adorable doomsday the world had ever seen. Lapis looked into the cutest infinite void she'd ever seen. The void gazed back, incredibly miserable.

She spoke up. "Actually, why don't you stay for a bit."

In an instant, the young yak's face returned to normal. "I will!"
