Adventures in Equestria
Magic Class
Previous ChapterTwilight, Bass, and Dysmetix talked about the basics of magic theory and simple things that she could cover without showing them. Bass was very intelligent compared to Dysmetix, but when Dysmetix actually wanted to learn something he was far from being an idiot. They both focused carefully on what Twilight was explaining and how things worked. She would also trail off slightly from the explanation to give them a bit of a break and explain a bit more as to what cutie marks were.
“So how does one get their cutie mark Twilight?” Dysmetix asked with curiosity written all over his face.
“Usually it is by doing something that you love of something that you are really skilled at. For example I got mine when I was entering into a school for gifted unicorns. I heard a loud explosion and my mind went blank and I unleashed a lot of magical power. When I was awoken Princess Celestia was there and she offered for me to be her star pupil, needless to say I was really happy.” She said jumping around just like she would have the day of the incident.
“And?” Bass questioned.
“Oh right. She pointed out my cutie mark to me and I was even more happy.” Twilight said with a big grin.
“Well that is indeed an interesting story.” Dysmetix said chuckling.
“What is it?” She asked.
“Nothing, I was just enjoying the idea of someone like you jumping around like Pinkie Pie.” He said laughing.
“It is a funny thought.” Bass agreed chuckling.
“Haha, you guys are real funny.” She said rolling her eyes holding back the action of punching them.
They finally arrived at her house and when they arrived they were greeted by an owl.
“Oh hey Owlicious.” Twilight said.
“Who?” Owlicious responded tilting his head..
“What’s with the owl?” Dysmetix asked with a bit of a baffled face.
“He’s my night time assistant.” Twilight said. “Hey, can you go get me my basic magic books Owlicious?”
Owlicious flew into the vast library living room that Twilight had.
“I didn’t notice it before, but you have a LOT of books.” Bass said wide eyed and looking around the room.
“Mhmm.” Dysmetix said nodding in agreement.
“What can I say? I love books and studying.” Twilight responded giggling.
“Duly noted.” Bass said looking at the books that surrounded him.
Owlicious dropped down a stack of books and sat on top of it. “Who?” He stated.
“Well he got the books.” Twilight said patting the stack..
“Awww man, you mean we have to read?” Dysmetix said with dismay and depression all over his face.
“What did you expect?” Bass asked shrugging his pony shoulders..
“Look at a magic scroll and automatically know a spell.” Dysmetix stated cringing his body away from Bass as though he was going to be hit.
“Where would you get such an idea?” Twilight asked tilting her head slightly in confusion.
“Video games.” They both responded.
“What?” She asked even more confused than before..
“That’s right, different world thing.” Dysmetix said rubbing his head with his hoof.
“Video games were something in our world, it was a fantasy world, and there were many different ones. You got to do a variety of things, but in a lot of games, in order to learn a spell you’d look at a magic scroll and know the spell.” Bass said all the while adjusting the imaginary glasses on his face as though he were a professor.
“Wow, your world had absolutely no grasp upon how the basis of magic works at all did they?” Twilight asked as she face hoofed.
“Well according to your explanation...” Dysmetix started slowly raising his hoof as though he had an idea.
“No they did not, not in the slightest.” Bass finished.
“Well let’s start with the basics of basics, Levitation.” Twilight said as she grabbed a small book from the stack. Even though it was a small book, it was still bigger than anything Dysmetix had read.
She began explaining to them how it worked and reading off the best way to work with it. Dysmetix, being the idiot that he is, started off trying to move things right after hearing it. He focused really hard and ended up getting light headed from focusing so hard. Twilight and Bass laughed at his attempt. Twilight further explained it and explained how she learned to do it by turning pages in a book. Bass sat there for a little while attempting it, before finally turning a page. Dysmetix re-attempted moving an object in the room, he ended up breaking a couple vases... or rather a lot of vases.
“I’d appreciate it if you did something that was...well...less involved with breaking things in my house.” Twilight said with a sigh.
“No I can get it.” Dysmetix said before trying again and breaking another vase.
“Dude, just stop there.” Bass said with his head in a book.
“Oh fine.” Dysmetix said as he plopped down on the floor and pouted.
“Maybe we should just rest and continue tomorrow.” Twilight said as she yawned and covered her mouth with her hoof.
“You can go to bed we’ll stay up studying and practicing.” Bass said looking up from his book.
“Yeah I wanna get this down before I sleep.” Dysmetix said with a frustrated look on his face.
“Alright well I will see you guys in the morning.” She said as she walked back to her bed. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight Twilight.” They each said.
They stuck their heads in the books reading, studying, and practicing. Of course Bass progressed faster than Dysmetix, but simply because Dysmetix went from something easy, to something really hard.
“Dude, why are you trying to teleport things?” Bass asked looking over at his page.
“Well I figured, what if the Doctor never comes back, we’ll need a way to get back. So if I learn teleporting now and practice with it so that way I can one day take us back home if it’s necessary.” Dysmetix responded staring at the page with intense focus.
“Wow, that is actually kind of smart. Let me help you with it and then we might actually be able to work this out.” Bass said as he crammed his head in and helped read and work on it.
As the night went on they continued to study and practice. The sun finally rose into the sky and the boys watched as it raised enjoying the moment, just like in their world.
“Hey, bro, do you think we should tell Twilight the truth? You know about a lot of the stuff in our world?” Dysmetix asked with his hooves behind his head while he was leaning against the wall.
“I don’t think we really should. I mean don’t you think it’d be strange telling her that we’ve seen her world before, only not in person, but on a screen?” Bass responded with a question.
“You got a point.” Dysmetix said sitting up right.
“Who has a point about what?” Spike asked as he poked Dysmetix.
Dysmetix jumped on Bass and Bass just threw him off.
“Spike, how much did you hear?” Bass questioned looking at him.
“Not really anything except for the last bit.” Spike said holding his finger to his mouth as though he were in thought.
“Ok Spike, but what are you doing up so early?” Dysmetix asked as he helped himself up.
“Well, I’m always up this early to make breakfast, and normally Twilight’s already up too, but she is usually still a little sluggish.” Spike stated smiling.
The guys looked at each other thinking for a second.
“Spike, I have a question for you.” Bass stated leaning over to him.
“Go right ahead I guess, I don’t know if I can help.” Spike said.
“Do you think it is possible for other dimensions to be connected at all?” Bass asked with a serious face.
“Hmmm, that would be more of a Twilight question, but if you guys really are from another world or dimension in any way, then there would have to be is my best guess.” Spike answered. “Why?” He asked putting his hands behind his head.
“Oh just us thinking. We’re also really tired, we’ve been up all night working. Think you could make us breakfast too?” Dysmetix asked making a big kind face.
“Sure, if you guys like hay.” Spike said with a grin.
“Sure, I’ll try it.” Dysmetix said hesitantly.
Spike walked off to go to the kitchen and start making breakfast. The boys sat there for a bit watching the sunrise continue, before going back in and reading the books of which they were working hard on.
Time passed and Twilight finally woke up and walked in to find them still studying. “Wow, have you guys been up all night working?” She asked with a drowsy face.
“Yeah we have.” Bass answered not looking up from his book.
“Have you made any progress?” Twilight asked still standing in the doorway of her bedroom.
Bass and Dysmetix looked at each other, nodded and then grinned. They turned to look at her and their horns started glowing and she slowly lifted off the ground and floated over to them and gently set her down.
“That answer your question?” Dysmetix asked slightly chuckling with a hint of sinister attitude.
“Yes it does. You guys have made a lot of improvement over night. What are you working on now?” Twilight asked leaning over and looking at their books. She was astonished to find them both working on teleportation, though Dysmetix was struggling with it, Bass was doing a ton of mathematics and science and magic theory based on what Twilight told him and what he read up on. “Wow.” She said as her jaw dropped and her eyes widened..
“Dysmetix will only learn what interests him. That would be Levitation, Lasers, and Teleporting.” Bass said as he was writing.
“Bass will only learn something that he can do the studying for, so pretty much everything in the book.” Dysmetix said flipping through a page while leaning on his hoof.
“How did you get this far?!” Twilight exclaimed with confusion.
“Well, we both are very fast learners at anything we are interested in and as long as we have the determination and do the practice, we learn really really fast. However we are still not that close on cracking the teleporting.” Dysmetix said with a miffed face at the fact of how hard they worked, but made hardly any progress.
“That’s ok it took me a long time to learn how to do it, and then even longer actually doing it.” Twilight said chuckling.
“Well today is a new day, what are we going to do?” Bass asked writing down notes and looking back to his book.
“I was going to go bug one of the ponies we met yesterday.” Dysmetix said laying down.
“If you’re going to bug Vinyl I’ll come with you, I heard she and Octavia live together.” Bass said looking up from his book to talk.
“You have a lot of interest in Octavia, Bass.” Twilight said giggling.
“Yeah, and?” Bass responded with a slight redness to his face, but hiding it by pushing his face back in the book.
“I just find it cute about your crush on her.” Twilight said giggling again.
Dysmetix started rolling on the floor laughing. “Oh my goodness bro, I knew you were transparent to me, but honestly, somepony who just met you yesterday can figure that out.”
“Oh shut up. It’s no big deal, it’s a completely normal thing for people to like each other, especially musicians.” Bass said closing his book and trying to keep his composure.
“Yeah yeah, sure bro. If that’s what you say.” Dysmetix said as he slowly stopped laughing and continued laying there.
“Be careful about laying on the floor.” Twilight said.
“Why?” He asked tilting his head.
“You know how you get when you stay up all night.” Bass said.
“I don’t know what you’re ta-” Dysmetix was quickly interrupted by him falling asleep.
“Typical.” Bass said with a light chuckle.
“Bass, I have something to ask you.” Twilight said.
“Ok, go ahead.” He said as he leaned back.
“How come none of you really were shocked by much of anything? I mean I know Dysmetix and the rest of you screamed at the sight of yourselves and me.” She said as she kind walked around in thought before continuing, “But other than that, there was no real major reaction and surprise to anything, you guys kind of acted like you see stuff like this every day. What is up with that?” Twilight questioned.
“Well, Twilight, honestly, it is really complicated and it would be best if all of us were here to tell you.” Bass responded in a plain manner.
“I suppose that’s fair.” Twilight said looking a little bit miffed.
“I’m going to take a nap for a bit and will be up later.” Bass said yawning.
“Alright, have a nice nap.” Twilight said and went back to her study room.
Bass curled up on the floor in thought and slowly drifted to sleep while thinking of the best way he could explain things to Twilight why they didn’t react, but also explain to his friends what was really going on with them.
