Flurry Heart said as she put her saddle bags down causing both Silver Spoon and Scootaloo to look up from their books. "Colts are so frustrating!" Flurry said after moment. "Are we speaking about colts in general or is there a specific colt that has earned your ire?" Scootaloo asked breaking the awkward silence. "Pound Cake." Flurry said. "Why don't you wait until I have finished helping Scootaloo with her homework and then tell me all about it." Silver Spoon said to her younger friend. "Oh, no! I want to hear this! Besides Pound is one cute colt!" Scootaloo said which caused Silver Spoon to roll her eyes and caused Flurry Heart to giggle. "Uh, Scoots, Pound is a little young for you. Now what is the problem little sister?" Silver spoon asked. "Party pooper." Scootaloo said sticking out her tongue. Again Silver Spoon just sighed and rolled her eyes. "I've been waiting for him to ask to the Hearth's Warming Ball that Auntie Twily is hosting for all of Ponyville. I know he hasn't asked any filly yet because Pumpkin told me so." Flurry Heart said, "I know I could go with any colt, but I really want to go with him." Silver Spoon blinked. She had forgotten about the Hearth's Warming Ball, no one had asked her yet either. Scootaloo saw the look on Silver Spoon's face and choked down a chuckle. "And who is taking you Scootaloo?" both Silver Spoon and Flurry Heart said simultaneously. "I'm going with Snails." Scootaloo replied. "Whhaaat! I thought you and Rumble were a thing!" Silver Spoon exclaimed. "Yeah, we called it off two weeks ago. I mean Rumble is a great guy, but sometimes he can get a little bull headed." Scootaloo said, "Plus he tried to put the moves on Sweetie Belle." "Sorry Scoots, I didn't know." Silver Spoon said. "Silvy, you'd be surprised what you would learn if you took your nose out of your books every now and then." Scootaloo replied. "What do you mean by that?" Silver Spoon asked obviously confused. "Ahem, ladies as fascinating as I find this topic of discussion, what about my problem?" Flurry Heart said. "This isn't over." Silver Spoon said to Scootaloo before turning to Flurry Heart, " have you thought of asking him to the dance?" "Am I allowed to do that?" Flurry Heart asked. "Yes. And have you thought that maybe you intimidate him." Scootaloo added. "Why would I intimidate him?" Flurry asked no the confused one. "Well, you are beautiful, smart, witty, oh, and you are a princess!" Silver Spoon said. "But I don't intimidate you Silvy." Flurry Heart said. "Yeah, but remember I know you better then other ponies who aren't related to you. I did change your diapers remember." Silver Spoon said. Scootaloo tried to choke down a chuckle as she pictured a younger Silver Spoon trying to change a baby Flurry Heart's diaper. Flurry Heart turned a shade of pink reminiscent of her mother at the memory. "All joking aside," Silver Spoon said once Scootaloo had calmed down, "if you really want something, then you have to make it happen. A good example is Scoots here, for the longest time she couldn't fly, but once she recognized that she had a subconscious fear of heights she worked hard to overcome it." "I thought we promised never to bring that up again." Scootaloo said through clenched teeth. "I'm only using it an example dearie." Silver Spoon replied. She thought back to when she and Rainbow Dash had learned of Scootaloo's fear. Together they had help Scootaloo get over her fears and now Scootaloo was captain of the school buckball team. "So do I just approach him or do I surprise him?" Flurry Heart asked. "Surprise him! Don't give him time to think it over." Scootaloo said. "I would just walk up to him and ask, but you need to use the method that works best for you little sister." Silver Spoon answered. Flurry Heart thought it over. She was glad that she had someone like Silver Spoon in her life. Her Aunt Twilight wasn't the best person to talk to, she tended to over analyze things. "Don't mind me." a voice said from the door to the parlor. The three ponies turned and looked. Silver Spoon's face lit up with excitement. "Tavi! What are you doing here? I thought you were living with Vinyl in Canterlot." Silver Spoon said. "Vinyl has a concert in Law Pegasus this week and I thought that it would be nice to see the family for Hearth's Warming. Didn't mother tell you? I wrote her a month ago." Octavia said to her younger sister, "So what are you girls discussing?" "We're trying to get both your sister and Flurry Heart dates for the Hearth's Warming Ball." Scootaloo answered. "Now this sounds like it could be fun." Octavia said, "Who are you wanting to go with?" "Pound Cake." Flurry Heart said. "I don't know." Silver Spoon said. "I see your problem Silvy. Flurry Heart, may I call you Flurry Heart or should I call Princess." Octavia said. "Flurry is fine." Flurry Heart said with a giggle I like Silvy's sister. "Have you tried asking Pound to the Ball?" Octavia said. "No I haven't." Flurry blushed, "I didn't think it was proper." "Proper? Propriety has nothing to do with it. If we all acted proper then I would be living her in this rather large house and not with my marefriend in Canterlot, which annoys Mother to no end." Octavia said causing Silver Spoon to giggle. Looking at her sister and her friends gave Octavia an idea. "Come on, lets go out to Sugarcube Corner, just us girls. My treat." Octavia said. "But we have school work to compl-," Silver Spoon started to say. "Its not due until the end of the week." Scootaloo interrupted closing both hers and Silver Spoons books. "I don't get a say in this do I." Silver Spoon said. Author's Note This story was originally meant to be a one shot, but it looks like I have at least one more chapter coming... //-------------------------------------------------------// Sisters //-------------------------------------------------------// Sisters Silver Spoon woke with a start. She had to fumble around to find her glasses. "Just to your right." She heard her sister say. When she found them and put on her glasses, she saw that her sister was standing in the doorway of her room. "You cried yourself to sleep last night." Octavia said, notes of concern punctuating her words. "I'm sorry, I didn't think any one heard." Silver Spoon half whispered. " I am certain that Mother and Father didn't hear you." Octavia said, "I've known you along time little sister, would you like to talk about it?" Octavia remembered when Diamond Tiara had moved to Manehatten Silver Spoon had locked herself in her room for days, only Octavia had been able to get Silver Spoon to come out. "Im happy for Flurry and Pound, I mean she is like my younger sister. But now I'm the only mare in Ponyville without a date to the Ball." Octavia didn't like to see her sister like this. It brought back memories of when Silver Spoon had been a younger filly and emotionally fragile. "How about this, after breakfast, we both go the Ponyville spa and then go to Carousel Boutique and get fitted for our gowns then we find you a young stallion to take you to the Ball. Today will be just about us." Octavia said after a moment of thought. Silver Spoon rubbed the sleep out of her eyes, and then looked at her sister. "I'd like that." Silver Spoon said, smiling for the first time that morning. Breakfast was an animated affair. Their father was glad that Octavia was home and wanted to know how she enjoyed being a member of the Royal Equestrian Orchestra, meanwhile their mother was obviously not pleased with Octavia's living arrangements. "Living with another mare is your own business, but does she have to be Vinyl Scratch?" their mother had said. "Now dear, Octavia is a grown mare. She may live however, with whoever she wants." their father had countered. Silver Spoon admired her father for being such a tolerant pony, he had earned his money through silver mining. Their mother was more concerned with the family image and appearances than with her daughters happiness. "Thank you Father." Octavia said, "now if you will excuse us, Silver and I have an appointment at the Ponyville spa." "Have fun girls, enjoy yourselves." Father had said. ================================== Silver Spoon had enjoyed the time at the spa with her sister. She hadn't realized how tense she was until she had had the deep tissue massage, and the mud mask had felt so good. Noe they were at Carousel Boutique. Octavia and Rarity were chatting like old friends. "Darling, have you and Vinyl set a date yet?" Rarity asked, which caused Octavia to blush. "Not yet, we want to tell my parents first. And yes you will get to make the dresses." Octavia said before looking at Silver Spoon, "don't say anything to Mother and Father." "Your secret is safe with me." Silver Spoon said. "Now lets see about your dress for the ball shall we," Rarity said to Silver Spoon, " I think a simple black dress should work for you, not to fancy and it won't distract from your natural beauty." Author's Note In this chapter I have tried to establish the relationship between Silver Spoon, Octavia, and the test of their family. Also I am referring to Tavi and Silvie's parents as Mother and Father for two reasons: Its how I think this version of Silver Spoon would think of her parents (though check my blog here on FIMFiction to see another theory about her parentage.). Secondly, I could not come up with any name for their parents, and I tried. As always I will gladly take any constructive criticism. //-------------------------------------------------------// Silver Dreams //-------------------------------------------------------// Silver Dreams That night Silver fell asleep before her head hit the pillows. Octavia looked in on her shortly after Silver had gone to her room and saw that her younger sister had fallen asleep with the largest smile Octavia had ever seen on her face. "Sweet dreams little sister." Octavia whispered before closing the door to her sisters room. ================================== It was the day that they had built new school playground, she remembered it because it was the day that the CMC's finally got their cutie marks. Somepony had pushed her into the mud. "Blank Flank." a voice said. "What?" she replied looking up. All of her friends were pointing at her laughing and chanting. Calling her a blank flank. "I'm not a blank flank i have my cutie mark" Silver Spoon cried, looking at her flank and noticing that her familiar cutie mark was missing. Even Di and Sweetie were laughing at her. Silver Spoon began tossing and turning in her bed. "Why would anypony want to be your friend? All you have ever been is bully." A voice said. "No I've changed," Silver Spoon cried out, "I'm trying to be a better pony." Suddenly Silver Spoon found herself alone in a void of only darkness. Soon small lights began to wink into existence, stars! She recognized them as stars. One of the stars shone brighter than the others and was growing as it moved towards her. Slowly the star took the form of Princess Luna "Calm child, I have watched you have this nightmare before." Princess Luna said trying to comfort Silver Spoon. Silver Spoon looked up at the navy blue princess of the night and wrapped her forelegs around her. She continued to cry as she nuzzled Luna. "Princess, when I was younger i was mean to other ponies, now I don't have a special some pony to take to the Hearth's Warming Ball and i know its because of my past sins." Silver Spoon between sobs. "My dear child, your past sins can only come back to haunt you if you allow them too. Trust me, I struggled with my past for several years before i let go of my sins." Luna said, "your past is not today." "You think so?" Silver Spoon asked. "I know so," Luna replied, "besides my niece wouldn't have you as one over best friends if you were a bad pony." "I've been watching you for a long time Silver Spoon," Luna said, "if you were truly a bad pony you wouldn't have the friendships you have now." Luna stomped on of her forelegs and the stars around them became a whirlpool of color and Silver Spoon felt like she was falling. When the sensation stopped she found herself looking into a familiar looking tree house. Inside were Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo. They appeared to be arguing. "Well if you're so smart why don't you have your cutie mark yet?" Scootaloo said to Sweetie Belle. That's when Silver Spoon noticed that the three crusaders had different cutie marks, and Sweetie Belle didn't have one at all. "At least I know how to add!" Sweetie Belle yelled back. Silver Spoon let out a small gasp, she couldn't believe what she was seeing. Her friends would never fight like this. Before Silver Spoon could say something to Luna they were once again falling through the whirlpool of color before the found themselves in the Castle of Friendship. Flurry Heart was crying and Twilight was trying to comfort her. "I have no friends here Auntie Twily, I want to go home, why can't i be with mom and dad?" Flurry asked. ================================== Silver Spoon snapped awake, she was back I her own bed room, the midmorning sun shone brightly through her bedroom windows. A blue Jay was perched on her window sill singing a song. She fumbled for her glasses. "Ahh, she is awake." Silver Spoon heard her sister say, "come get some breakfast, there is somepony downstairs that wants to see you." Silver Spoon brushed her mane and her tail before going down to the dining room. Seated at the table was Vinyl Scratch. "Vinyl! How was Las Pegasus? I thought you were going to be there all week!" Silver Spoon exclaimed. Vinyl shook her head before signing that she had been able to get out of her gig early so that she could spend time with her family. "And we have a surprise for you." Octavia said in a song song voice as her parents entered the dining room. Mother as always didn't look pleased to see Vinyl, however Father didn't seem to mind her presence, he even asked her how her morning was going. "What is the surprise?" Silver Spoon asked, "A week long vacation for my friends and I in Law Pegasus?" her parents looked at her with looks of amusement and terror, they weren't quite ready to accept that their youngest daughter was quickly growing up. "Not quite dear sister," Octavia said smiling while Vinyl choked down a laugh, " we're getting married!" Author's Note I had to take a break from this story to about a week. I hope the results were wort it. I wanted to deal with Silver Spoon and her past as a bully, this was the best way I could think of in the context of the story I am trying to tell. The three younger ponies went and took a seat while Octavia went to the counter to place their orders. "Silver, your sister in awesome!" Scootaloo said as they each took a seat. "She's O.K.." Silver Spoon replied, "now that she has moved to Canterlot and living with Vinyl, I don't get to see her as much I used to." "Aunt Tia took me to one of her concerts last year for my birthday," Flurry Heart said, "I wasn't aware that you could mix music genres like that." "That would be Vinyl's influence. Mother isn't one of her biggest fans. I'm surprised that Mother is allowing both Tavi and Vinyl to stay during Hearth's Warming." Silver Spoon said. "Your sister has been talking to Mrs. Cake for a while, I wonder what they are talking about." Flurry said. "Who knows." Scootaloo said as she looked around Sugarcube Corner. She saw Sweetie Belle sitting in a corner with both Truffle and Twist. Lyra and Bon Bon were sharing a vanilla malt shake, and Pinkie Pie was trying to feed her pet alligator, Gummy, a platter of cupcakes. There was a sudden burst of laughter as a young unicorn ran into the shop and hid behind the counter, her brother followed shortly only instead of walking or running he tumbled into the shop. "That wasn't funny Pumpkin!" Pound Cake said a little loudly. "Then why are you laughing?" his sister Pumpkin Cake responded from her not so clever hiding place. Pound Cake looked around the room trying to find his sister. He saw Flurry Heart first. "Uh, hey Flurry, how are you?" Pound Cake said, trying and failing to not blush. Scootaloo glanced at Silver Spoon and winked. "Hi Pound, nice weather we're having." Flurry Heart said turning a shade a pink that rivaled her mother's coat. "Uh, yeah." Pound Cake stammered. Scootaloo tried and failed to hide the smirk on her face which earned her a look from Silver Spoon. Octavia nudged Flurry Heart, nodding when she had her attention. "Pound, would you like to go to the Ball with me?" Flurry Heart asked trying not to blush any more than she already was. Sugarcube Corner was suddenly silent, all eyes on Flurry Heart and Pound Cake. Even Pumpkin Cake was starring at her brother with wide eyes. "You want to go the Hearth's Warming Ball with me?" Pound said. Flurry nodded unsure of what to say. "Yes." Pound answered. She still couldn't believe that the colt she had a crush on was taking her to the Ball. She was so excited that she didn't notice that her aunt had a guest. "Auntie Twily! Guess what, Pound is taking me to the Ball." Flurry said excitedly. "That's great Bug!" Twilight said using her nickname for her niece, which caused Flurry Heart to roll her eyes. "Please don't call me that Aunty." Flurry said. Then she noticed her aunt's guest. "Oh, Flash how are you?" Flurry Said to Flash Sentry. "Well I was getting bored guarding that big Crystal Palace and your Aunt asked me to help chaperone the Ball, and Sunburst decided to watch the castle." Flash said, "now, who is Pound?" "My friend from school." Flurry said thinking quickly. "Oh hush Flash." Twilight giggled, "I'm happy for you dear. " Flurry saw that Her aunt and Flash had been in the process of moving a mirror when she had come in. "What's with the mirror?" Flurry asked. "I'm moving it to a locked room, both Pinkie and Lyra keep trying to convince me to let them visit Canterlot High." Twilight explained, "This way they won't be tempted during the ball." "Oh," "So have you picked out a dress yet?" Twilight asked, "because we could get matching gowns. I know Rarity wants to make you one." "Not yet." Flurry answered. ================================== Across Ponyville, in a large house, Silver Spoon was feeling depressed. All her friends had dates for the Hearth's Warming Ball, and she didn't. It was at times like these that she wished that her foalhood friend, Diamond Tiara, still lived in Ponyville. "What's wrong Silvy." Octavia asked her younger sister from across the coffee table. "Nothing really I guess. I'm glad that Flurry is going with Pound to the Ball, but I still don't have any one to go with." Silver Spoon sighed, "perhaps Scootaloo is right and I spend too much time with my books." "Look, Silver," Octavia said, placing her cup of hot cocoa on the table, "The dance is in one week, I promise you that we'll find you a date by then." "You promise." Silver Spoon said. "Have I ever let you down?" Octavia said. It pained her to see her little sister so sad. Octavia began thinking of ideas to get her sister a date to the dance.
