Call for desperate measures
Octavia was not having a good day.
Ever since her last performance at the Gala almost a year ago, her contracts had been on a steady decline. One would think that performing at such a prestigious event would boost your popularity up by a significant margin. But alas, that was not the case.
Octavia sighed as she buried her face in both hoofs as they rested against her desk. Numerous papers were strewn about on the polished wood surface, with the occasional black spot of spilled ink decorating it.
”Follow a profession in music, they said. It'll be profitable, they said.” She thought bitterly. Truthfully, she did know that the few contracts she had taken a part in did turn a hefty profit. And she did truly enjoy music, but there was just too much competition out on the streets.
She did think about trying to get another spot in the Gala. But back then things were a lot easier going. The past year had truly seen a surge of Ponies looking to develop a career out of music. She was positive that the Gala had already been filled out months ago.
“I need a drink…” She muttered as she pulled her head away from her hooves and reached down, opening a small cabinet to the right of her, she took a half full, or half empty, whiskey bottle.
She grabbed a few small glasses from within the same cabinet and set them down next to the bottle. Carefully, she opened it up and filled them all up to the brim.
Setting the bottle aside, she picked up the glass and looked at the contents with half-lidded eyes. Twirling it around and watching the whiskey flow counter clockwise.
Today, she would drink her problems away. And tomorrow, she was going to find herself a damn job, if it was the last thing she did.
The day started out miserable. It was unavoidable if you decided to drink half a bottle of whiskey before going to bed, but she pulled through her hangover and managed to get herself out of the house.
She currently lived in one of the more rich and secure neighborhoods of Canterlot. Not a lot truly happened in her area. Aside from the occasional take-over from oversized bugs and whatnot. That tended to affect the entirety of the city.
The keyword was currently, however. If she didn't find a source of money, she wasn't going to be able to afford to pay for her half of the mortgage. Heaven knows Vinyl wasn't going to be able to pay it and have money left over for the other essentials.
Now, she was halfway across the city. Going from store to store trying to find herself a job. It wasn't as easy as it sounded. Most of the times they barely paid attention to her or weren't in need of any employees.
Not even three hours into the job hunt and it was already starting to feel more and more hopeless. She could try to apply to a fast food joint, they had a reputation for hiring almost anymore, but she still had a some dignity left. Those were good first jobs, but certainly no place for her. She was a musician, for crying out loud!
With a lengthy sigh, she put a stack of her resumes back into her saddle-bag and began trotting away from another failed attempt. They were apparently 'not hiring at the time’ and to 'come back later’. She snorted to herself. She certainly wasn't going to wait around for weeks until a spot opened up.
As she made her way through the crowded streets of downtown Canterlot, a thought suddenly sprang up from the depths. Maybe Vinyl knew somepony that could help her? She always boasted about having tons of connections. Maybe she should see if her roommate could back up that claim.
Not that she had a lot of options left. She had already visited most of the stores in the area and was met with the same result. Her best choice at the moment was to hope that Vinyl could help her out.
“Ugh. Could this day go any worse?” She grumbled as she began the long walk back to her home.
It was evening by the time Octavia got home, much to her dismay. The streets had been dreadfully crowded on her usual route back, forcing her to take a few shorts cuts.
Which in the end, led her to get lost for hours.
To her credit, she did manage to backtrack and get back on track, with the traffic now having cleared up a bit, she got home within the hour following her little detour.
Octavia mumbled something underneath her breath as she reached into her saddle-bag and took out the keys to her house. Putting them in, she twisted and was rewarded with the familiar sound of the lock unlocking. Pushing past the door, she closed it behind her with an absentminded kick of her hind leg and more or less threw her bag onto a nearby coat hanger, managing to get the bag hooked and not knock everything over.
Heading into the living room, she spotted Vinyl lazily sprawled on the couch with her hooves behind her back and with a blanket up to her neck, eliciting a cocked eyebrow from Octavia.
“What are you doing?” She asked incredulously as she approached the couch which the white mare was resting on.
Vinyl half opened her right eye and looked over at Octavia.
“Oh, you're home. Took you long enough.” She responded as she closed her eye.
“Yes, well… I ran into a few problems along the way.” She muttered, taking a seat on a chair opposite to Vinyl.
“But never mind that. What are you doing?” Octavia asked once again as she crossed her forelegs, slightly annoyed at getting her question ignored.
Vinyl responded with a shrug of her shoulders. “Eh, I'm gonna watch a movie. The popcorn is cookin’ in the kitchen.” She gestured towards the T.V, which was currently turned off.
“Don't you need to have the television on to watch anything?” She asked as she glanced between the aforementioned device and the mare.
“That's why I'm planning on turning it on once the popcorn is done.” She dismissed her with a wave of her hoof.
Octavia rolled her eyes at her roommate's silliness. “Moving away from that, there is something I wanted to ask you.”
If she didn't have Vinyl’s attention prior, which was most likely the case, she definitely had at least some of it now as she opened her eyes and looked over at Octavia.
“Hm?”
Taking that as a sign to continue, Octavia cleared her throat slightly and began. “You've claimed before that you have numerous connections throughout the city, correct?”
Vinyl raised her eyebrow for a second at Octavia’s question. “Well, yeah. I have. Why?”
“Uh, well… I was wondering if you could try and-” She was rudely cut off by Vinyl, who finished the sentence for her.
“-find you a job?”
Octavia blinked a few times at the suddenness. How did she…
“You think I haven't noticed you busting your ass trying to get a new gig? I looked in your saddle-bags while you were in the bathroom before you left. I saw the resumes.” She clarified.
Octavia didn't know whether to be angry at her for looking through her stuff or somewhat touched that Vinyl had actually noticed something was wrong.
“You looked through my-” She was again cut off by the mare, who had raised a foreleg to stop her from continuing.
“I can get you a job. A high paying one at that. But it's a bit… different from what you'd expect.” She chuckled a bit at the last part, making Octavia slightly worried.
With her forelegs still crossed, she looked at her with a suspicious glare. “And pray tell, what might that be?”
Vinyl smirked and looked over at her, winking.
“Have you ever heard of BDSM?”
Silence filled the room as Octavia’s suspicious look turned into one of confusion. And shortly after, Vinyl's smirk began to fall and turn into a frown.
“....Don't tell me that you've never heard of BDSM.” She asked, disbelief in her voice.
“I can't say I have. Is that some sort of DJ?” Octavia had no idea what her roommate had suggested, but something told her that she wasn't going to like it.
“Bullshit. You're a grown mare and you're telling me that you've never heard of that stuff?!”
“Clearly I haven't! Get on with it and tell me what it is!”
Vinyl took a deep breath and sighed, shaking her head and mumbling something.
“I can't believe… Ugh, it's basically a fetish. You know, sex stuff.”
Silence filled the room once more as Octavia looked at her in disgust. “You're… What are you saying?”
Vinyl responded with a roll of her eyes. “I'm suggesting you go work in one of those BDSM clubs. The pay is good as hell, and it's not that big of a deal.”
Octavia blinked a few times before scowling at her. “Not that big of deal?! You're asking me to basically work at a strip club!” She shouted.
“Well, first off all, it's a bit different than a strip club and second… It's all I got. I know the guy who runs the place, and they're always looking for new Ponies that fit the role. And honestly, you'd fit the role just fine” She said as she wiggled her eyebrows at Octavia, who in return blushed ever so slightly.
“Buh- Wha… What's that supposed to mean?” She looked offended, at which Vinyl rolled her eyes.
“It's a compliment. Trust me, the place is a lot tamer than you think. It's mostly just submission, bondage, and-” She was cut off by Octavia, who threw a cushion in her direction, most likely to shut her up.
“Okay, okay! I get it! No need to go into the details.” She shuddered as she thought of herself in such… vulgar positions.
Much to her dismay, Vinyl’s horn began to glow as the cushion was surrounded in her aura, preventing it from assaulting her face. “Oh come on, you big baby! That stuff is tame as shit! Don't tell me you get all hot and bothered because of a few words.”
She set the cushion down on another couch nearby as Octavia glared daggers at her. “I-... It doesn't! It's just that I'm not used to such… explicit acts! I'll have no idea what to even do!”
“That's why they get you a trainer for the first week or so.” Vinyl stopped herself for a second before allowing a smirk to cross her face.
“... You're considering it, aren't you?”
She didn't reply for a good ten seconds, resorting to glaring at Vinyl in the meantime. She finally let out a sigh and leaned back in the chair, her hoof almost automatically being brought up to massage her temple.
“...Do they pay training days?”
Vinyl's smirk grew threefold.
“I can't believe I actually agreed to this…” Octavia mumbled as she sat on the back of a taxi alongside Vinyl with her forelegs crossed over her chest. The former had a triumphant grin on her face as she leaned back on the soft cushions of the chariot.
“Don't worry about it, it'll be a breeze. Plus, it's only until you can find a better one.” Vinyl used reassuring.
“You mean if I find a better job.” It wasn't very effective.
She resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she looked over at her roommate. Who was staring out at the passing buildings. “You're worrying too much, Tavi. Worst comes to worst, you can always just end up working at a restaurant or something.”
Octavia huffed and continued to look out the window. “What a nice way to say fast food.” Vinyl opened her mouth to reply but closed it soon after.
“We'll be there within ten minutes. Just wait outside until I talk to the manager. Shouldn't take too long. From there you'll most likely start right away!” She nudged Octavia a few times with a smirk.
“Hoorah for me…” She mumbled sarcastically.
Vinyl shook her head. “Cheer up, if you don't like it, you can always quit. The manager is pretty understanding most of the time.”
Octavia sighed and turned her head to gaze over at Vinyl. “I do hope you're right because I don't know how long I'll last if it's what I'm imagining.” She shuddered.
Vinyl crossed her forelegs across her chest and raised an eyebrow in response. “And what are you imagining?”
Octavia glared at her for a few seconds before turning her attention back to the passing buildings and landscape. “Are we there yet?”
Vinyl rolled her eyes at the obvious change of topic. “We should be there within a minute or two. Nervous?”
“What? Me? never.” She sarcastically replied.
Before either of them could comment further, the chariot came to an abrupt halt outside of a large, neon-colored building. Octavia could almost see through the many windows that decorated the sides, but they were most likely meant to allow somepony to look out, not in.
“This is your stop.” A gruff voice called from the front of the chariot, prompting Vinyl to nod to herself and dismount, followed closely by Octavia.
“Thanks for the ride, dude!” Vinyl said as she threw a small bag of bits towards the Stallions at the front, they more than happily grabbed once it was close enough and sped off into the city.
“So, uh… This is it?” Octavia nervously asked as she eyed the building. It didn't look very impressive in her opinion. The lights were too blinding, and the many windows were just asking for a break-in.
“Yup! Wait out here for a bit while I do the talking. Shouldn't take more than ten minutes.” Vinyl replied as she trotted into the structure, through a set of fancy looking double doors. Leaving Octavia all by her self.
With a sigh, she glanced around the relatively empty lot for a place to sit and wait, eventually settling for just standing near the front door. Her mind was racing at a thousand miles per hour as time went by. She had a somewhat vague idea of what she would be doing, but it didn't help calm her nerves.
She wasn't going to lie to herself, she barely had any sexual experience of her own. While certainly not a virgin, the last time she had sex must have been back in her college years, easily three to four years ago. The idea of a trainer did sound more appealing than just being thrown into the fray with little to no experience, but in the end, she was still going to have to do some… questionable things.
She ended up spending upwards of twenty minutes waiting, and her nervousness quickly grew into annoyance. She was about to walk in and go find Vinyl before the doors suddenly flew open, startling her.
She turned her gaze over towards the now opened doors and spotted Vinyl trotting towards her, a smile on her face.
“Great news! I managed to get you a spot as a maid.” She said cheerfully, prompting a confused look to dawn on Octavia’s face.
“Maid? These places have those?” She asked as she took a peek over Vinyl's shoulder and into the building.
“Yeah! They do a lot more than just clean in this place though. They'll fill you in once you're inside. Now, go get 'em!” She walked past Octavia and patted her on the head a few times, earning a glare from the mare.
“You're not staying?” She question as she swatted Vinyl's foreleg away.
“Nope, I have stuff to do. They'll have someone bring you back from work if you don't have transportation on your own, don't worry. I'll see you later!” She clarified before trotting away, most likely to find another Taxi.
Octavia turned her attention back towards the double doors and took a deep breath.
”I'm going regret this…” She thought to herself before releasing a sigh and heading into the club.
A few short minutes later, she now found herself sitting in front of a middle-aged Stallion, with only a desk separating them.
The stallion seemed to particularly like the color gray, as both his coat and mane were of that color, with the latter being a deeper shade.
He was currently looking through a few papers and occasionally glancing up at Octavia, whose nervousness had begun to settle in once more.
He did, however, possess an aura of professionalism, unlike what she expected from what she basically considered a specialized strip club. His cold hard gaze seemed to pierce into her soul and take her expressions and emotions apart, reading her like an open book.
“Miss Octavia, I presume. We're glad to have you on board.” He said in a gruff voice, extending a hoof over the desk, which Octavia slowly grasped and shaked.
“It’s… a pleasure to be on board.” She hesitantly replied, trying to carefully pick her words.
He smiled and nodded, pulling his foreleg back and onto the desk. “Now, I need you to sign these papers. Once you do, I'll direct you to your trainer for today.” He stated as he pushed a pen and numerous papers towards the mare, who held back a sigh and signed them.
His smile grew ever so slightly as she pushed the papers back. “Welcome aboard, Miss Octavia.”
“Please, just Octavia. The miss just makes me feel old.” She replied with a small smile, trying to take some stress off of herself.
He chuckled in response and nodded, raising his forelegs in defeat. “As you wish. Exit this room and follow the corridor all the way down. You'll find a door to the right. Your trainer should be in there, preparing your… 'uniform.’” He put some emphasis on that last word, as Octavia noticed, but she decided to pay no mind to it as she followed his instructions, stepping out of the room with and quickly finding the door he had mentioned.
Upon opening it, her mind screeched to a halt as she spotted her supposed trainer, bending over and rummaging through a large, medieval-styled chest, with their assets in full view of her.
A deep crimson blush quickly formed on her face as she turned her head away from the pony, which she had figured out was a mare for rather… obvious reasons. The mare didn't seem to notice that the door had been opened and continued moving things inside the chest, completely unaware.
It took a full ten seconds before Octavia mastered the courage to clear her throat, finally getting the attention of the mare.
Her head quickly shot up and looked backward, smiling as she spotted Octavia. As she turned around to face her fully, Octavia took in her appearance.
She looked like a mare easily in her thirties with long, violet hair that fell down to her shoulders, a horn stood proudly on her head. Her coat was a mixture of lavender and indigo, and her tail matched her mane. In any other circumstance, Octavia would have silently complimented her looks, but what she was wearing quickly overtook those thoughts.
Vinyl had briefly explained what she, and the other 'maids’ working here would wear. In all honesty, it had confused her at first. It seemed rather strange and, well… Ridiculous for the lack of better word. She understood that Ponies had a lot of fetishes, and she figured that this was one of the more tame ones, but it didn't stop her from quietly ridiculing it in her thoughts.
Seeing in in person, however, was something else entirely.
She had to admit that there was a sort of… uniqueness and flavor of it. Seeing it on a rather attractive mare, she suddenly understood why it was a turn on for a lot of ponies.
Before she could dwell any more on her thoughts, the mare smiled and spoke. “You must be Octavia, right? I was told on a short notice that I would be training a few more. I can already tell you'll fit in just fine. Come over here, I have your new outfit all cleaned up and ready to go.” She gestured for her to come over with her hoof, to which Octavia hesitantly replied.
She glanced around the room and took in the antique feeling it had to it. The wallpaper looked ancient, but it didn't bear the signs of wear and tear. There were a couple of chests scattered throughout the room, along with numerous pieces of furniture. She doubted that she would spend a lot of time here, it didn't seem that special. A storage room, perhaps?
Octavia stopped in front of the large chest alongside the mare and looked at her. “It's. Uh… It is a pleasure to be working with you, miss..?”
“Lasting Bond.”
She nodded and looked down at the contents of the chest in front of her. “So, is this…” Octavia found herself rudely interrupted by Lasting, almost immediately knew and confirmed her question.
“Yep, this is your outfit. I'll let you have some privacy while you put it on. I'll be back in… Seven minutes.” Before Octavia can ask her anything else, Lasting was already closing the door behind her, leaving Octavia to blink in surprise.
“Okay, that was weird. Now, but do I put this thing on…”
As it turned out, BDSM outfits were a lot harder to put on than one might think.
It took her three minutes to even figure out how to get the straps on her thighs and flanks, an extra two to actually put them on, not to mention the ones for her chest and neck area. One might think that a trainer would actually have half a mind and tell her how to do it before abruptly leaving, but she guessed that Lasting thought it easy to the point that even somepony new could figure it out quickly.
When it came to the more… Area-specific straps, they were a little easier to put on. They had included some sort of wrap for what she could assume was her tail. It was highly uncomfortable and degrading in her opinion. It basically left the entire backdoor exposed for anyone to look at. The thought alone sent shivers down her spine. She couldn't see herself getting used to this.
The finishing touches on her new outfit looked like common maid pieces she would see in motels and such, but she could definitely see how it would appeal to some Ponies, especially in combination with the previous stuff she had to put on.
As stated, Lasting had barged in right around the seven-minute mark without much of a warning, startling Octavia, who had just finished getting 'dressed’ seconds prior to the intrusion.
“Ever heard of knocking?” Octavia said with an irritated glare as she turned to look at Lasting, who merely shrugged.
“I did say I was coming back in seven minutes. Anyways, are you ready to begin?” Lasting looked her up and down, analyzing her. It made her slightly uncomfortable, but she figured that she might as well get used to it. It was most likely going to be part of the job.
“As ready as I'll ever be, I suppose.” She replied, walking towards the door. Lasting took a few steps back and allowed her to pass into the corridor.
“Now, we'll have to go over the rules and things like that before we can get into the real stuff. It shouldn't take more than an hour. Follow me.” Octavia merely nodded and did as she was told. As long as she could place as much time between her and the sex, it was fine by her. But it was an unavoidable thing at that point. The best she could do was mentally prepare herself.
She followed the mare through numerous sets of corridors that seemed to stretch on for far too long, considering the fact that it didn't look all that big on the outside. Time seemed to slow down to a painstaking craw as she followed her 'instructor’, trying to avoid looking at her nether area. It wouldn't have been so difficult if she wasn't keeping her damn tail raised all the time. Last time she checked, she wasn't into mares, but that didn't mean it wasn't distracting. She felt a small blush creep into her cheeks as she tried keeping her eyes forward.
Eventually, they turned a corner and excited to a larger corridor, now resembling more of a hallway. Octavia blinked and looked all the way over to the opposite end of the hallway a considerable distance away. Numerous doors dotted the sides, and a single, far-reaching arch with flashing neon lights stood proudly in the middle of them all. She quickly concluded that it most likely led to the main lobby, where the customers actually mingled and whatnot.
She was snapped out of her thoughts by Lasting as she cleared her throat, drawing her attention. “Through here, Miss Octavia.” She gestured towards a plain wooden door in front of her. She held her breath for a second before nodding and stepping into the room.
The simplistic door really did no favors to describe the interior. It was painted a Royal purple with a similar colored carpet. By simply looking at it she could tell it sad of high quality. Chairs which could have passed as miniature thrones were organized in two rows, each containing a set of five of the luxury chairs with an oak desk placed in front. It definitely had a classroom type vibe. Albeit one fit for royalty.
“...Woah.” Was all she could manage as she stepped into the room, marveling at the fabulously decorated interior.
She heard Lasting chuckle as she followed her in and closed the door behind her. “I'm glad you like it. It's been sort of a side project of mine for a while. I've been gathering this stuff the nobles just throw out for one Solly reason or the other and using it to slowly add some flavor to the room. Although I haven't quite found a good replacement for that door…” Lasting mused as she tapped her chin.
“The boss said I could do it. Celestia knows that none of this stuff would fit in my house, so I brought it here!” She beamed as she trotted over to the desk, letting Octavia take in her surroundings undisturbed.
“This is… This looks amazing! Ponies just throw this stuff away?!” She looked in amazement at the elegant chairs.
“More or less. They're not quite as clean though. I've had to buy more than a few cleaning products to get some of the nastier stains out.” Lasting informed as she sat down in front of the desk.
“Still… you have to tell me where you find this stuff.” Octavia cracked a smile as she too found a seat in the front row, relaxing instantly due to the incredibly soft fabric.
“And get more competition? Nuh uh. I'm already competing with a few ponies on who can get this stuff first.” She answered with a chuckle.
“Now, onto the quick lesson. We'll be mostly covering what to do, what's allowed and the restrictions on both the servant and the customer.” Her tone suddenly took a more professional approach as she straightened herself out.
“This'll be fun. She thought as she held back a sigh. This certainly wasn't helping calm her nerves, at all.
“Now, the first thing you need to be aware of is…”
“Okay, remember what she said Octavia, play it cool. Most of the time they're more nervous than you…” Octavia comforted herself as she stood in front of a reasonably long list. She had been told that she was to do basic tasks such as cleaning and serving drinks before she got, well… claimed by someone. She'd been vaguely told how it usually went. Customers who paid extra for servants could pick any maid they wanted unless they were already preoccupied with another client. Lasting had told her that it wasn't unlikely that she didn't get picked on the first day. It was like that with most new ones, which had served to calm her to a certain degree.
“If you do get picked, I've made sure it'll only be that one for the day. We take it easy with new Ponies. If that happens come see me afterward. You'll be assigned to only cleaning for the rest of the day. Sound good?” Lasting smiled as she patted Octavia’s back.
“Uh, sure.” She nervously replied.
“Good. Now go get 'em, tiger!” She cheered on as she nudged Octavia forward, and into the lobby.
She gulped and looked around the large room. It was fairly standard for the most part. The layout shared plenty of similarities with a strip club, minus the dancing poles. It wasn't overly packed too, which she was thankful for. She counted no more than twenty ponies mingling about in the various tables placed across the room, not counting the maids, of which there seemed to be a total of eight within her line of sight.
“Okay, you can do this…” She looked down at the list in her hooves and bit her lip.
She took a deep breath and held it for a few moments before exhaling. Now having gained a determined look as she put the list inside a small pouch nest her chest and official began her first day of work.
Okay, maybe she overestimated the severity of it all.
Almost three hours had passed since she took her first steps into the lobby, and all that she has had to deal with is cleaning a few spilled drinks and tables that found themselves vacant as time went on. She had seen a deal maids get… claimed as time went on. They all looked weathered and experienced. Maybe that's what Lasting meant? The older employees usually got picked the most? It did make sense to her. They're supposed to be more experienced with it all.
Lasting had also told her to keep her tail down unless she was claimed, for some reason. Not that she had intended to do so in the first place, but apparently it turns ponies on or something. As much as she didn't like it, she had signed up for this job and had gotten herself into this mess. She might as well at least follow the rules, even if it meant discarding some of her pride and dignity in the meantime.
“Whew, that's the last table of my section. I swear, some of these ponies just spill things on purpose…” She shook her head as she stepped back from a now sparkling clean table, admiring her work.
“Now, what's next…” She muttered as she went to reach for her list, only to feel a sudden tugging motion and the distinct click of a lock being closed.
What the…
Oh.
”Oh hell. She thought as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Looks like she hadn't gotten off lucky.
“You seem new. I haven't seen you around here before.” She heard a gruff voice rumbled from behind her. Turning her head to look at its origin, she was met face to face with a deep blue colored stallion.
He had a few inches on her, as well as a silver mane and tail. She couldn't see his cutie mark, but she could definitely tell that this guy wasn't a new comer to this place. He had one of those looks that screamed experience.
“Uh… Yeah?” She squeaked, her nervousness suddenly returning with full force.
He let out a deep chuckle and shook his head. “That explains why I've never seen you before. And the nervousness. Don't worry though, I'm a usual here. And lucky for you, I'm a more dominant kind of guy.” He said with a smirk, tugging her collar as he began to walk towards what she quickly figured out was the dungeons. Huh, he could probably give her a tour of the place.
Suddenly remembering what Lasting told her, she hesitantly raised her tail as high as she could, earning a chuckle from the stallion.
“Ah, so Lasting didn't forget that part this time.” He mused as he continued walking.
“So, um… What'd you mean about me being lucky?” She slowly asked as she followed him through the neon arch, and guided her into one of the dungeons.
The room definitely lived up to its name. It was full of Al sorts of assortments such as whips, gags, and every type of sex toy you could imagine. Topped with a bed that fit the BDSM style perfectly. The same could be said with the room as well.
“It means I'm doing most of the work. Usually, I'd tie you down forcefully, but let's keep that part civil, shall we? It is your first day here.” He winked and gestured towards the bed after unclipping her leach.
