Chapter 2: A New future replaces a Forbidden past

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

When I arrived at this planet, the residents of a small town that was near to where I landed my ship were very surprised and bit scared when they first saw me. But then a lavender alicorn by the name of Twilight Sparkle approached me bravely and introduced herself and the town which was called Ponyville. I told her my name and the reason for my arrival. Twilight understood that I hadn’t come here to harm anyone and she led me to a purple crystal castle on the outside of town. There, I met her friends, Applejack, Rarity, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie. I greeted them warmly and they did so in return. I then learnt that they were the bearers of the Elements of Harmony and that Twilight was the Princess of Friendship. I then told them of what I was, where I came from and why I was there. Later that night, Pinkie Pie hosted a welcome party for me which I was very thankful for. The ponies that were invited were still very hesitant at my presence, but when they saw me being friendly to the Mane 6 they understood I was a kind and harmless fellow.

I have been in Ponyville for two months now and during that time I have my own house, my ship stored in a hangar that had been constructed by the rulers of Equestria; Princess’s Celestia and Luna, and the ponies have gotten to know me quite well. It was a glorious sunny day and I was taking a stroll through the market square. I was wearing a blue buttoned-up shirt, black jeans and Chelsea boots. Yes, Rarity, being the Element of Generosity had designed me a whole wardrobe which meant I didn’t have to wear my Guardian Armour. As I walked, mares and stallions were giving me greetings and smiles and I returned them kindly. I got to the edge of the market and then I got another greeting,

“Hi Barnaby,” said an angelic voice from somewhere by my feet. I looked down and found the smiling faces of three fillies, Applebloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle or the Cutie Mark Crusaders as they’re called.

“Hello there youngsters,” I replied, crouching down to their level and stroking their manes,
“What are you three up to then?” I asked. Before any of them could answer, we were interrupted by something rather unpleasant,

“Oooh look,” came a prissy voice that the C.M.C and I had no trouble recognizing,

“The blank flanks are making friends with the hairless monkey,” We turned around to see two fillies approaching. One was pink and wore a silver tiara and the other one was grey with a silver mane and tail and was wearing a pearl necklace and bright blue glasses. Locally known to us as the Gruesome Twosome of Ponyville Primary,

Oh great, a rich snob invasion, I thought, rolling my eyes in annoyance,

“Leave us alone Diamond Tiara,” Scootaloo hissed angrily,

“Oh please,” the other filly known as Silver Spoon replied, “When are you losers going to accept that you have no talents and are clearly a waste of space?” Applebloom was about to reply when I stepped in,

“Let me handle this girls,” I whispered. I stood up and glared down fiercely at the two stuck up fillies,

“You two have a lot of nerve to act offensively towards a form you haven’t seen before,” I began, “But don’t you have something better to do then being spoilt and horrid to these three?” I then asked with slight anger in my voice. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon snickered to each other,

“Those blank flanks have no talents or skills, they should be sent to live in the Everfree Forest with the flightless chicken’s dead parents,” Diamond spat venomously. I realised they were both referring to Scootaloo and I looked at her with worry. The little pegasus’s eyes were filling up with tears and Sweetie Belle and Applebloom were scowling at the pink filly.

They’ve really gone and done it this time, I rounded on the two spoilt fillies,

“So you think,” I snarled, beginning to lose my temper, “Just because your father is the richest stallion in Ponyville and the fact that you both have your cutie marks, means that you have the right to push over these three fillies over and then walk all over them like a pair of spoilt brats!?” My fists had curled up and were now shaking with anger,

"Yeah,” Diamond sneered, “All three of them are useless at everything.” This was too much for me to handle,

“WELL YOU DON’T!” I snapped back. This made Diamond and Silver cringe in fright, but I wasn’t done yet,
“These three are full of determination, confidence and potential. They have their whole lives to find their special talents and they’re not going to be held back by a pair of snobby, spoilt, stuck-up, good for nothing, selfish little brats like you two!” As I was saying this, I was advancing on the two fillies, who were shrinking back with terror in their eyes,

“Now get out of my sight before I kick you out,” I commanded. The two fillies both turned tail and ran off crying and bawling,

“And why don’t you go and get some medicine for your bad attitudes while you’re at it?” I called after them. This made the two fillies cry harder and they scampered home with their tails between their legs. I turned to look at Sweetie Belle and her friends who were just sitting there with wide eyes and hanging mouths,

“You three okay?” I asked with concern,

“That was… BRILLIANT!” Sweetie Belle squeaked suddenly, running over and hugging my shin,

“Yeah, ya’ll sure showed ‘em,” Applebloom added, hugging my other shin,

“Alright, alright easy there fillies,” I said with a laugh. They released their grip and I bent down to stroke their manes. I looked up and noticed Scootaloo still looking upset. I walked over to the pegasus filly and sat down beside her,

“You alright Scootaloo?” I asked. She looked back at me with teary eyes,

“Diamond Tiara’s right, I am a flightless chicken,” she sobbed. I gave Scootaloo a warm smile,

“Don’t listen to them, you’ll fly eventually,” I replied kindly. The filly looked at me with hopeful eyes,

“Do you really think so?” she asked cheering up. I looked at her with a grin.

“I don’t think so,” I chuckled, “I know so,” the filly’s face cracked into a huge smile and she pulled me into a hug,

“Oh thank you!” she squealed, “I’m going to the best flyer I can be,” she said confidently,

“I’m sure you will,” I replied with a laugh. Scootaloo released her grip and I stood up. I then smiled down at the three fillies,

“Right,” I said, “I have to go now fillies, I have something important to do today,” The Cutie Mark Crusaders grinned back at me,

“Thanks for teaching Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon a lesson,” Sweetie Belle said,

“No problem,” I replied, “After what they’ve been through, I don’t think they’ll be tormenting you three again anytime soon,” Applebloom and Scootaloo gave me their thanks and the three fillies ran off to Sweet Apple Acres. I stared after them with a smile,

Those three really know how brighten my day,

“I didn’t know you were that friendly,” said a feminine voice. I turned around and saw a magenta coloured mare with a raspberry coloured mane and three smiling flowers as her cutie mark,

“Hello Cheerliee,” I said with a smile, “What brings you this way then?” I asked. Cheerliee gave me the same smile,

“I saw you talking to Applebloom and her friends and then Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon showed up,” she explained, “I saw the anger in your eyes Barnaby. I was going to give those two fillies a good telling off, but you did it for me,”

“I did didn’t I,” I laughed,

“The thing is though Cheerliee,” I went on, “Back on my planet, there was an old saying; “The best defence is a good offence.” And that had to be used towards Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon,”

“Wow. You do have quite a big history,” she smiled and we both laughed again,

“Barnaby?” Cheerliee asked,

“Yeah?” I asked my attention now on her. I saw her cheeks turn red slightly when she said my name,

“I was wondering if you wanted to come to the school sometime next week and tell the fillies and colts about yourself. What it’s like being you and what your life was like before you came here,” As soon as she said that, a frown appeared on my face and I must’ve done a good job on showing it because Cheerliee grew concerned.

“Are you okay?” she asked kindly putting a hoof on my shoulder. I gazed into her eyes. She was worried about me, so I decided to tell the truth,

“Yeah I’m fine,” I replied, the frown still not leaving my face,

“What’s bothering you?” Cheerliee asked, “You can tell me,”

“Well, the thing this, I don’t like to look back on my past,” I explained, “Before I left my world, something really horrible happened and even though it happened a long time ago, when I think about it today I get these horrible flashbacks and nightmares,” Cheerliee listened carefully while I explained my situation and then her face fell,

“Well, if you feel uncomfortable about it then I won’t force you into doing it,” she said with a warm smile. I looked into her caring eyes and I could tell that she would like to hear about my past,

“I’ll do it,” Cheerliee was surprised,
“You sure you’re okay with it?” she asked, “I don’t want to be a burden or anything,”

“I’ll be fine,” I assured her, “Besides; those foals might learn an interesting thing or two. I know for fact that they would like to learn more about me,” I grinned. Cheerliee continued to ponder over this, but she looked at me and knew that I was going to conquer a forbidden task,

“Well if you’re happy to do it, then what day will you come in?” she asked slowly,

“How about we save it for the end of the week?” I suggested, “It’ll be a little surprise for them won’t it,” Cheerliee had a little think and then she nodded,
“That’ll be excellent,” she smiled. While we had been talking, Celestia’s sun was beginning to sink behind the horizon,

“Is that time already?” I asked, looking at my watch,

“So it would seem,” I gave a light chuckle and looked at the magenta mare in front of me with a smile,

“Right I have to go now Cheerliee, I’ll see you next Friday afternoon then,” Cheerliee smiled back,

“Okay Barnaby, I hope you have a happy Hearts and Hooves Day tomorrow,” I stared dumbstrucked at her,

“Hearts and Hooves Day is tomorrow!?” I asked. Cheerliee looked confused,

“Ummm… Yes. Did you not know that?”

“I did know that yes, I just haven’t prepared for what I’m going to say to my future special somepony,” I explained my face heating up. Cheerliee only gave me a warm smile,

“Who are you going to ask?” she asked. I looked around to make sure that we were alone and then I explained,

“Do you know the two mares that run the Ponyville Day Spa?” I asked. Cheerliee nodded in reply, “Well I’m going to ask Lotus Blossom’s twin sister, Aloe to be my special somepony,” I finished. Cheerliee smiled again,

“I hope it goes well for you Barnaby. Aloe is a very lovely mare; you two would make a nice couple,”

I smiled back, “Thanks Cheerliee, I hope so too,” We said our final goodbyes and headed home.

On my way back, I passed by the spa that had closed down for the day. I gazed at it for a short while,

Oh Aloe; I would love to spend every day with you, I continued on my way home, the sun was now disappearing behind the mountains sending the sky into ablaze of red, orange and pink. Behind me, the stars were coming out and Luna’s moon was making its presence known in the darkening sky. Later that night, I was lying in bed after a meal of daisy sandwiches and hay fries and a nice hot shower. I gazed out of the window at the majestic night sky and sighed,

Okay, I’m going to go to that spa tomorrow and ask Aloe to be my special somepony, Nothing more was said after that, I turned out the lamp and went to sleep, thinking about the day ahead.
