Chapter 5: A Storm gives Peace and Freedom

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

A few days have passed since the Ponyville townsfolk learnt about my past. It was now Friday, the day the fillies and colts of this little town were due to meet me in person. I had planned ahead and decided not reveal my past for a second time, because at the end of the day when it was first revealed, I had a nightmare about it. I saw The Nightstalker plunge the Blade of Darkness deep into my father’s chest, but before he could touch me, it ended from the help of Princess Luna and Aloe.

For my visit to the Ponyville schoolhouse, I had decided to show the foals my powers, the handheld weapons that I use for general combat, my guitar and tell them about some of my missions I did. The walk through Ponyville was as nice as ever; the sun was shining and I got the usual greetings from the townsfolk which I returned. When I reached the schoolhouse, I entered through the main door and headed for the classroom where I could hear a familiar voice,

“Alright my little ponies,” Cheerliee was saying, “Before you all leave for the weekend, we have a visitor,”

“Who is it?” came Sweetie Belle’s enthusiastic voice from somewhere in the room. Deciding that I had waited long enough, I knocked softly on the door,

“Come in,” Cheerliee called out. I took a deep breath and opened the door and stuck my head in,

“Hello youngsters,” I greeted with a warm smile. The whole classroom gasped at my presence, but I noticed eight familiar young faces, three of which were the Cutie Mark Crusaders, the other three were Ruby Pinch, Alula and Sunny Daze.
The last two faces were the ones I wasn’t looking forward to seeing; Diamond Tiara was giving me a really cold glare which I ignored, but there was something a bit strange about Silver Spoon when I looked in her direction. Our eyes connected and I could’ve sworn a small smile appeared on the filly’s muzzle,

She seems quite pleased to see me, I wonder why? Regaining focus; I stood at the front at the classroom and looked down at the amused faces of the foals,

“So,” I began, “I heard that there were few of you who wanted to meet me in person, correct?” There were a number of heads nodding with excitement and enthusiasm,

“Well, before we begin, there is something I would like to ask you,” I stated calmly, “How many of you were there the day I reviled my past to the rest of Ponyville?” A small number of hooves went, three of which were the CMC,

“Okay, so it was only a few of you then,” I said, “That’s fine, because I just want to make it clear that I don’t want to reveal it a second time, because it does mess with my mind, if you know what I mean,” I explained carefully. I looked around the room and there were a few heads that nodded in understanding,

“So what are you going to talk to us about?” Silver Spoon asked. I gave the filly a small smile at her amount of interest,

“Well instead, I’m going to talk to you about my powers, the weapons I use for combat and give you a little demonstration with a couple of them, and maybe I’ll play you all a small tune with my guitar,” I explained, “But in order to do that, I need to summon my Guardian Armor,” I added.

The whole class of fixated on me as I sent my storm call to my armor through my mind. Like last time, there was flash of lighting and I was standing before the foals in my silver and blue robes and my face was hidden behind my blue and white helmet. The fillies and colts were amazed at my quick change of clothing,

“Where have you gone?” Sunny Daze asked with slight worry in her voice,

“Don’t worry, I’m still here,” I chuckled, removing my helmet and putting it on Cheerliee’s desk. I turned to look back at the foals who were still stunned, even Diamond Tiara was sat at her desk looking dumbstruck
,
“So, as you can see,” I explained, running my covered hands around my body, “This is my Guardian Armor that I would wear into any form of battle. It gives you the best protection from any source of attack and comes with a built-in shield that will recharge after taking damage,” I added.

“That is so cool,” a grey pegasus colt by the name of Rumble commented. I then went on to explain about my power and the weapons I use. My primary weapon was my auto rifle, the Cydonia-AR2 which I call Zero Day Dilemma, and it has a special feature that allows it to deal 20% extra damage after every enemy it defeats for a short time. My secondary weapon was my sniper rifle, the L.D.R 5001 which I call The 1000 Yard Stare. This long-range lethal gun was equipped with armor piercing rounds which can shoot through even the toughest piece of metal. After I had showed the fillies and colts my first two weapons, a little demonstration with my powers, and told them a few stories about some missions I went on across the galaxy, I moved on to my favourite weapon.

“Now this,” I said, pulling my Bolt Caster from its casing on my back, “Is my Guardian sword,” All the foals eyes went wide at the sight it,

“The blade is made out of the strongest metal ever created and was named as the Arc Blade back on my planet. But I call it the Bolt Caster. Why? Because what I can create when my Stormcaller is activated is an Arc Swirl that has such a high voltage of electricity, you will evaporate and die in Arc Light. So in other words; this is one of the most dangerous weapons ever made,” I explained.

From the beginning of my visit through to now, every once in a while, Diamond Tiara would say a really horrible remark and it was getting on my nerves. As I turned around to put the sword on the desk, I heard her voice yet again,

“Even with that thing, my daddy can still have you placed under arrest, you hairless monkey,” she sneered under her breath.

Alright, that’s it. I’ve had enough,

I have dealt with a lot of faults and irritations in my life, but none of them were a bigger fault or more irritating then Diamond Tiara. I then did something that goes against the Guardian Legacy; never threaten a resident of the planet you’re protecting. But I had to do it to put the spoilt filly in her place. I spun around and pointed my sword straight at her, the blade merely inches from her muzzle. The whole room went silent,

“Listen you little brat!” I hissed, “I’m here to protect you and the rest of the planet from anything dangerous. But why should I protect you when every time you open your mouth, you always say something horrible and spiteful!?” I must’ve struck a nerve, because sweat was forming on Diamond’s head and her eyes were darting back and forth nervously. The filly tried to find an answer, but came up with nothing. I lowered the sword and continued to glare at her,

“Diamond Tiara, I want you to go and stand outside the classroom,” Cheerliee called out,

“But Miss Cheerliee…” Diamond whined,

“Not buts. OUT, NOW! I’ll see you and your father after class,” Cheerliee said sternly. The pink filly left her desk and sloped miserably out the door.

I looked at the rest of the class who were still gazing fearfully at me as though I was going to use my sword on them if they put one hoof out of line,

“I am awfully sorry about that Barnaby,” Cheerliee said from behind me,

“No, no, no. Its fine,” I assured the magenta mare with a friendly smile. I turned around and put the sword onto the desk and turned back to the class,

“I’m sorry you all had to see that,” I apologized, “What I did just then was something that goes against the Guardian Legacy; never threaten a resident of the planet you’re protecting,” I explained carefully. The foals all nodded once again in understanding. I glanced up a the clock to see it was getting close towards the end of class,

“Okay youngsters,” I said after powering down and crossing the room to pick up my guitar, “I’m going to end this visit with a little song,” I explained. Cheerliee moved from behind her desk and went stood by door, while I sat on the desk and started playing a song on my guitar by another one of my favourite artisits.

A little later, I finished the song and the class burst into applause and just like that, the bell rang to signal the end of the day,

“See you next week my little ponies,” Cheerliee called out as the class filed out. After the last foal had left, I turned to the magenta mare was giving me a warm smile,

“Thank you for coming in and sharing that with us,” she said gracefully.

“That’s alright Cheerliee,” I replied with a smile, “I really enjoyed doing that for all of them,”

“It’s not every day we have an unusual visitor like you,” Cheerliee mused,

“No, I bet it isn’t,” I chuckled and we both laughed,

“Right, I better leave you to it,”

“Yes, I have a certain filly to deal with,” Cheerliee replied with a frown,

“I’ll be seeing you then Cheerliee,” I said heading towards the classroom door,

“Bye Barnaby and thanks again,” she called out. I gave a final wave went out into the hallway and headed towards the main entrance, ignoring Diamond Tiara as I passed. I could feel her icy cold glare burrowing into the back of my head, but I carried on not daring to look back at the spoilt filly,

This your undoing Diamond, not mine,

A few fillies and colts were playing around when I came outside. I crossed the playground and sat down under a tree,

“Hey Barnaby,” I looked to my right and saw a silver maned filly with glasses,

“Hello Silver Spoon,” I replied. As soon as we made eye contact, Silver looked at the ground with a frown,

“Hey, are you okay?” I asked.

“I’m fine,” the filly replied, the frown not leaving her face,

“Are you sure? You’re looking a little down,” Silver looked up into my eyes,

“I just want to say I’m sorry about the way I treated you and Applebloom and her friends the other day,” she explained, “I made a huge mistake saying those things, but more importantly I made mistake becoming friends with Diamond Tiara. After hanging out with her, I don’t think anybody would want to become friends with me,”

Throughout the explanation, tears were running down the filly’s cheeks and I couldn’t help feeling sorry for her. I picked her up and brought her in for a hug,

“Don’t worry about it,” I said softly, “Everybody makes mistakes sometimes, even me,” Silver looked at me with teary eyes,

“What kind of mistakes have you made?”

“The way I threatened Diamond Tiara earlier was a mistake, a Guardian isn’t allowed to do that any under circumstances, but it had to be done to put that filly in her place,” I explained, “It requires a certain level of stupidity to anger a Guardian and Diamond had no trouble reaching it,”

“I noticed,” Silver replied with a giggle, leaning into my shoulder. We sat there in silence for few moments listening to the peacefulness of the late afternoon.

“Are you alright now?” I asked after a while,

“Yes I’m fine,” I carefully placed filly down and she looked at me with her lavender eyes,

“Barnaby, would you consider me as a friend?” Silver asked slowly,

“Sure, what else would I consider you as?” I replied with a smile,

“Really? You would like to be my friend?”

“Why shouldn’t I be? You seem like a really sweet filly and…” I didn’t get to finish my sentence before Silver Spoon leapt into my arms and started nuzzling me,

“Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!” she squealed placing multiple kisses on my cheek.

“That’s quite alright Silver Spoon,” I laughed stroking her perfectly groomed mane. Eventually, the filly released her grip and looked at me with a sweet smile,

“I have to go home now, it’s getting late,” Silver said,

“Okay, I’ll see you some other time,”

“Bye!” I watched the grey furred filly scamper off home with a big smile adorning her cheeks. I picked myself up and headed back home with Celestia’s sun beginning to make its slow decent towards the horizon. I got to my front door just as Luna’s moon appeared in the darkening sky behind me. I entered and removed my shoes and put them away, and then headed for the bedroom where a little surprise was waiting for me.

Author's Note

Hi viewers. Quite an outburst from our hero there.:pinkiegasp: Still Diamond Tiara does need to know when to not to say something nasty, especially when there's a Guardian with the ability to give you an electric shock standing in the room.:rainbowlaugh:
