It's a beautiful day in equestria as we find Spike and the mane six having a picnic not too far away from Everfree Forest.
As they ate, Rainbow Dash spoke up.
"I've got to admit Twilight, it definitely a good idea going on a picnic today." She said.
"You said it, Rainbow Dash." Applejack agreed, "With nothing serious not happening lately, it sure is nice to sit back and enjoy ourselves."
"As nice as this is, why did we decide to set up so close to Everfree Forest?" Rarity asked.
"Well, when I was making the plans for today's picnic, Fluttershy said she found a nice spot we could set everything up." Twilight explained, "Although it is close to Everfree Forest, she said no dangerous creatures live or visit this area of the forest, meaning we should be perfectly safe."
"I mainly know that because of the animals that visit my home tell me so." Fluttershy admitted.
"Well if you have confidence that it's safe, then so do we!" Pinkie exclaimed as she placed her foreleg around Fluttershy's shoulder.
"Thanks Pinkie." Fluttershy said.
After that, the group continue to enjoy the picnic until, a few minutes later, they finished and began packing everything up.
"Thanks for inviting us Twilight, it sure was to hang out without something too serious happening." Rainbow Dash said as she helped Spike put the dishes they used back in the basket they had brought.
"No problem Rainbow Dash. Plus you should thank Spike since he was the one who talked me into arranging this picnic." Twilight said as she gestures towards Spike.
"Well since we haven't seen each other lately, I figured a nice get-together was needed." Spike explained, "Also, I had to find a way take a break from her studies since that's all she's been doing for the last week."
"Hey! I occasionally take breaks and I do sleep get some sleep at night." Twilight scuffed.
"Whatever you say Twilight." Spike said before noticing something.
Seeing this, Twilight asked, "What is it Spike?"
"I think there's something inside that bush over there." Spike responded as he pointed at said bush.
When everyone turned to look, they saw that something was moving inside the bush and was about to come out.
Seeing this, everyone braced themselves for whatever was about to come out.
The bush continues to move for a bit before the creature within makes it's way out of it.
The creature itself was small (about half the size of Spike's body), it was blue with a peach underbelly, black eyes, a long yet thin black nose, small blue feet, blue ears, and had quills on the back of it's head.
Everyone stares at the creature for a moment as it stares back at them in silence.
That was, until Fluttershy suddenly rushed up to the creature and hugged it.
"Oh my gosh you are the most adorable thing I've ever seen in my entire life!" She exclaimed as she nuzzled it.
After she calmed down, Fluttershy noticed the creature looked upset.
"What's wrong?" She asked.
As a response, everyone heard a stomach growl.
"Sounds like it's hungry." Spike said.
"Oh you poor thing! Your starving!" Fluttershy exclaimed as she held the creature so that it was facing her.
The creature's stomach growled again, only this time, it clenched it's eyes shut as tears are seen coming out of them.
"Please don't cry, we'll get you some food, I promise." Fluttershy said as she held the creature close to her chest.
"Lets hurry back to the castle!" Twilight said, "That way, we can get it some food and so that I can try to find out what it is!"
Responding with a nod, everyone rushed back to the castle as fast as they could as Fluttershy carried the creature in her forelegs.
A few minutes later in the castle of friendship, everyone in the castle's kitchen discussing what they should serve the creature (who was placed on top of the counter).
"How about an apple?" Applejack suggested, " Just about everyone enjoys a nice apple."
"That may be true, but a simple apple isn't enough to satisfy the poor dear's hunger." Rarity said, "Perhaps a salad would be the best choice."
"But a salad takes a while, and the little guy needs food now." Rainbow Dash said, "I can go into town really quick and get it a hayburger."
"I don't think a hayburger is good for its health." Twilight said.
"Well what else can we feed it that's quick but large enough to end it's hunger?" Rainbow Dash asked.
As they were talking, the creature began to move across the counter until it came across a small cake (that was about the same size as it's body) that had been left out in the open.
Curious about the cake, the creature sniffed it for a moment before opening it's small mouth and taking a bite.
After taking a bite, the creature froze for a moment before it began to devour the cake.
Back with Spike and the girls, Rainbow Dash had just finished talking when Spike decided to check on how the creature was doing before.
What he saw caught him off guard, but filled him relief.
"I think the creature found solved our little problem by itself." Spike said.
Wondering what Spike meant, the girls turned towards the creature and saw it had just finished eating the cake.
Once it finished, the creature turned towards them and began to jump in joy.
"Well there goes the dessert we accidentally forgot to bring to the picnic." Spike said.
"As bummed I am that I didn't get to taste it, at least the little guy finally got something to eat and enjoyed it." Rainbow Dash said.
Once the creature calmed down, Fluttershy walked up to it and asked, "Did that cake make you full?"
The creature responded with a nod as it let out what sounded like a combination of a growl and a pur.
"What was that noise it just made?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"That must be how it communicates." Twilight said before asking, "Fluttershy, are you able to understand what it's saying."
"Sorry Twilight, but all I heard was that growl/pur notice it made." Fluttershy responded.
"Well, so much for asking it what it is." Twilight said before she began to walk off, "Spike I need you to help me look through all the books on mystical creatures and see if we can find out what it is."
"What about us?" Fluttershy asked as Rarity, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie nodded in agreement.
"You five can take care of the creature in the meantime, I'll send Spike when we're finished."
"Okay, but before we go, we need to come up with a name for it." Pinkie said.
"It would make addressing it easier, and I doubt anyone would like it if they were called creature." Rarity agreed.
Looking around, the creature spotted an apple on the other end of the counter.
Deciding to have a small snack before possibly leaving, it rushed towards the apple and ate it until it was just a core (all in one second too).
The creature let out a sigh of relief before looking at the others, who were completely amazed.
"I'm not the only one who saw that, right?" Spike asked.
"How it ran to the apple and ate it in a blink of an eye? No, you aren't." Twilight responded.
After recovering from the shock, Pinkie exclaimed, "I just thought up a name for it!"
"What is it." Fluttershy asked.
"Sonic." Pinkie responded.
"Sonic?" Twilight asked.
"Why not? He can move really fast, he seems like a Sonic." Pinkie said.
Walking up to it, Fluttershy asked, "Well little one? Would you like "Sonic" to be your name?"
The creature responded by jumping towards Fluttershy (causing her to catch him in her forelegs), and began to nuzzle her chest.
"I'll take that as a yes." Fluttershy said as she began to pet Sonic along his quills.
"Well, I'll leave it to you girls to keep Sonic safe, and if anything happens, let me know." Twilight said as she and Spike made their way towards the castle library.
Once Sonic finished, Fluttershy placed him on her back before asking, "Well girls, what do you think we should do first?"
"How about we throw Sonic a "welcome to ponyville" party?" Pinkie suggested.
"I don't think Sonic is ready for that yet." Rarity said, "How about we take him to the boutique? I would love to make some outfits for him."
"You can do that some other day, Rarity." Rainbow Dash said, "Why not show him around ponyville?"
"Good idea Rainbow." Applejack said, "That way, Sonic can get familiar with the town and meet everypony in the process."
Sonic appeared to have agreed since he was jumping on Fluttershy's back in excitement.
"It looks like Sonic likes that idea." Fluttershy said.
" Well what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed.
With that, Sonic and the girls make their way out of the castle, unaware of the dark mist that had been watching them the entire time.
