Twilight and Rainbow were huddled inside the warm embrace of the treebary, their eyes skimming through pages of a daring do book, going through different ideas about how it might end. This was the second last book in the series and the last book had not been released so they were savouring every word and punctuation mark of the book, basking in it's adventurous glory. Twilight, of course, had already finished the book long ago; but for the sake of seeing Rainbow's reaction, she chose to reread the book with her winged friend.
I can't wait to see her face when she reaches the ending. Twilight mused to herself as she eyed Rainbow's actions, looking for that moment.
"No way!" The blue equine squeaked as she grabbed the book and held it closer to her face in disbelief, "It can't end that way. It just can't!" Rising up from their fort of blankets, Twilight grasped the book in her magic and calmly placed in back in it's designated shelf, labelled Adventure, before Rainbow could try ripping the book apart.
She had gotten used to cliffhangers and knew how to handle such situations, though, Rainbow was handling this much better than she had, as she recalled how she had to stay detached from the world for two days before recovering and regaining her composure enough to carry on living.
From some unknown corner, Twilight's magic had brought out two mugs of piping hot cocoa; almost too prepared. One cup for Rainbow to cool down and contemplate what just happened, and one for herself as she watched
"Sadly; yes. It does end that way. I'm as equally upset and confounded as you are, Rainbow." Twilight commented, her voice containing suppressed glee and excitement, "But.... the last book's going to come out in.... December!" Letting out a joyful squeal as she said the celebrated month.
Rainbow's jaw dropped and she exclaimed, "DECEMBER?" She flopped back onto the fluffy pillows Twilight had set up for their reading, if they were to call it that way, date. "That's at least five months. I can't be kept in suspense that long! What happens to Daring? Will she get out of that labyrinth? Will she finally get the Ebony Sapphire? I need the answers to these things, Twi!" She swooped over to Twilight and squeaked nervously into her face.
They were awfully close to each other.
The lavender mare blushed.
"Rainbow? A little personal space?"
This a little too close for comfort. Twilight thought to herself as she bit her lip, staying silent for a few more minutes. Finding no where else to rest her eyes on nervously, she found herself gazing into Rainbow's eyes. That's a really pretty shade of cerise, reminds me of a gorgeous sunset I saw the other day.
The blue pegasus' cheeks lit up with a strong, angry red tinge before she awkwardly flew backwards. Scratching the back of her head, she tried to ease the situation, "Oops. My bad. Say! Would there be another book that, well I don't know is around the same uhm... type as Daring Do?"
Thoughts flooded Twilight's head instead of answering the question. Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh. Why do I feel so flustered? Did Rainbow blush? Did I stare at her too long? Wait, she blushe-
"Earth to Twilight," Rainbow said, waving a hoof to grab Twilight's attention, looking a little worried, "You alright there Twi? You zoned out a sec... About that book... type I was talking about."
Something lit up in Twilight's eyes upon hearing Rainbow's request once more and soon she scrambled towards a bookshelf labelled 'Mystery'. Books were strewn about as Twilight tried her best to find some unknown book that apparently correlated to Rainbow's book request.
"Genre," Twilight corrected, her snout still ducked into a musty old bookcase, "A book's 'type' is called genre." The purple aura around the bookshelves never faltered as Twilight glanced at each hovering book and individually picked each wrong one out and placing them into a neat pile in the corner, taking forever to find the right one. During Twilight's labourious search, Rainbow had taken the liberty of making herself comfortable and watching the unicorn's antics.
"Ah ha!" Twilight suddenly shouted, the books that were once encircling her fell to the mahogany floor with a series of large thuds, "Oops." Rainbow hadn't even had a chance to make a noise before Twilight shoved a book in her face.
The cover contained a simple minimalist picture of a hat and a magnifying glass, as far as Rainbow could tell.
"Sherlock Holmes!" The lavender mare squealed before bringing the book into her own physical embrace, "It was one of my favourite stories growing up as a filly, it's a classic and I have the whole collection." She beamed to herself like a filly would upon receiving candy, once again proud of her accumulation of novels.
Not convinced, Rainbow grabbed the book from the Princess' hooves, glancing thoughtfully and quizzically at the blurb. Before thrusting the paperback back to Twilight. "A detective story?" Rainbow exclaimed, "Does it even have any action? Suspense? I don't think is the right book.... type for me."
"Genre. Book genre," Twilight corrected, a little irked by Rainbow ignoring her earlier grammatical correction, "There are plenty of book genres aside from Adventure, Rainbow. You can't stick to one just one genre. Books are the greatest weapons in the world! See how I mentioned books? More than one book genre, Rainbow. Besides, Sherlock Holmes does have suspense."
"I guess...," Rainbow dragged the word, still unconvinced, "But It doesn't seem like a book I would like. Daring Do was an exception."
"So will Sherlock Holmes!" Twilight coaxed, magicking the book slowly back into Rainbow's hooves, "You know what? I'll read the book with you and we'll find out whether you like it!"
Rainbow nodded slowly and blushed, "Alright! I'll give it a shot."
"Great!" Twilight chimed, her voice melodious and joyous, "The Reading Club begins tomorrow, noon. I hope to see you here!" The unicorn grinned, her sunshiney smile encouraging Rainbow to beam along.
