Another bit of fluff! Hope you enjoy it!
Sick!
The sun rose up for another sunny day. Another beautiful day with singing birds, warm weather and big beautiful sky. And the sun shined its morning glare into the room of Sour Sweet's girlfriend, Smallfoot.
Smallfoot's eyes slowly winced from the sun and she opened them up to see the morning light enter her room. And she stretched her arms wide as she got up.
"Good morning Canterlot! Alright, lets see what's on the agenda today." Smallfoot looked over to her nightstand and grabbed a slip of paper that had notes written. "Lets see, need to shower, probably vacuum later, lets see... Oh yeah!"
Smallfoot pointed her finger to a task on her list. "Need to freshen up for Sour Sweet, and meet her and the Shadowbolts over at the Canterlot Mall. New movie picture on the--"
In the midst of her speech, she felt an itch in her throat, making her cough.
"Okay, that's probably nothing. Hope--"
Smallfoot coughed again. And it was followed by another cough, and then another, and then another until her own voice sounded like she was hacking up a storm. Even worse, she felt her nose was a little runny. She grabbed a tissue and blew into it, hoping to clear her nostrils. Hopefully all of this was just something minor and she would be okay.
She pulled herself out of her bed and scrambled over to her bathroom. She grabbed a thermometer to check her temperature, and when she read the temperature number, her eyes widened.
"Oh dear god..." Smallfoot moaned with a dry voice, followed by more coughing.
Later in the day, the Shadowbolt girls were busy hanging out in a corner of a cafe in the Canterlot Mall while they were waiting for Sour Sweet. All of them had the day of nothing but just goofing off and having a bit of fun, so now it was just waiting for Sour to join up with the rest of them. Well, after finding where Smallfoot was.
"--And my dad shot her, it was weird." Lemon said, rolling her eyes.
"If you say so."
Just then around the corner, Sour Sweet was found with a worried look on her face.
"Hey Sour, why are you so glum?" Sunny asked.
Sour sighed. "I looked left and right and I still haven't seen Smallfoot. Its not like her to not show up, at least, not without reason."
"Maybe she's held up with work." Sugarcoat said.
"No, I checked on the second floor, her boss said she's not going to be working today." Sour replied. "Oh, where could she be?"
"Sour. Did you think about calling her?"
Sour stopped for a moment and her hand hit her own face, feeling like an idiot. She pulled out her cellphone and dialed in the number to call. She waited for a few moments, but then she got an answer.
"H-H-Hey?" Smallfoot's sore voice came on the other end.
"Hey baby! Its me!"
"Oh Sour, hey," Smallfoot coughed heavily on the other line. "H-How you doing?"
"Um... I'm doing fine, just been wondering--"
Sour heard more and more coughing on the other end of the line.
"Smallfoot, are you okay?" Sour asked. "You don't sound so good."
"Babe, I--" Smallfoot coughed and blew into her nose. "I think I've got the flu."
Sour's face dropped from confused to concerned. "Aww, baby... I'm so sorry, I didn't know."
"Its..." Smallfoot coughed again. "Its fine, I just... I just need to stay home and recover."
"Smallfoot, you know, we can always reschedule so you can still watch the movie with us?" Sour offered. The Shadowbolts near her raised brows and were left confused. What was going on?
"No, Sour, its... its fine!" Smallfoot blew her nose again. "You girls have fun without me, okay?"
"Smallfoot wait! What if I come over, I can help you get better?"
"No!" Smallfoot yelled, accompanied by another cough. "No, Sour! I don't need you getting sick too!"
"But--"
"Sour, just have fun okay? I promise I'll be fine, just don't come over, or you'll get sick!" Smallfoot pleaded.
Sour didn't have a chance to reply back for at that moment, the phone hung up on her. Sour was just left in shock on the other end as she tried to come to terms with what Smallfoot begged her. Her own girlfriend didn't want her to help her get better.
"Sour? Are you okay?" Indigo asked. "Your face is kind of twitching right now?"
Sour took a moment to take a deep breath, and she calmed herself down.
"Smallfoot's come down with the flu."
"What?" Indigo said.
"Awww..." Lemon whined.
"Poor girl." Sunny stated.
"Sucks to be her right now." Sugarcoat bluntly replied.
"So, I guess this means we're waiting another time to see the movie?" Lemon asked.
"No, not happening. We paid good money for these tickets, and we're not going to let them go to waste. Besides, the tickets can only be used for today." Indigo said, putting her foot down.
Sugarcoat just blinked and glared at her. "Since when did you turn into a jerk than a friend?"
"I... well... okay what I said was awful I know, but come on, we can't miss this!"
"Well I can." Sour stated. "You girls go on ahead. I'm going to Smallfoot's apartment, and I'm going to take care of her."
"You sure?" Indigo asked.
"Yes. I can see this movie another time, or when it comes to DVD. But a sick girlfriend, is something I have to help. I'll check in with you girls later."
"Okay then, have it your way." Indigo shrugged. "Tell Smallfoot we said hi and hope she gets better!"
"I will!" Sour said as she was about to walk off. "Actually, one last thing... if you girls spoil the movie for me... I am going to tie you down to your beds, gag you, and I will leave snakes on you!!!"
The girls were truthfully frightened by the idea... but after a few seconds of contemplation, they knew Sour Sweet never did anything that went over the line.
"Yeah... right."
"The point is... NO. SPOILERS!"
Sour Sweet's anger switched from angry back to happy as she giggled. "See ya!"
Sour skipped away, merrily on her way to her girlfriend's apartment.
The trip didn't take long, and thankfully she found her place of residence. She was about to knock on her door, but stopped. For all she knew, her girlfriend might not be able to actually walk to the door. And she came to her place without any warning.
She slipped her hand into her pocket and pulled out her phone. She typed a quick text to her, checking if she was able to respond back.
"Sour?" Smallfoot's voice came from the other side of the door. "Are you standing there?"
Sour's head sunk down. "Uh... yeah?"
"Babe, I told you not to come, I don't need to get you sick!" Smallfoot cried.
"Smallfoot, you're my girlfriend, I can't just leave you alone and miserable. Please?" Sour begged.
Smallfoot knew arguing with Sour was of no use. She would never win an argument with her, and no one usually did. Last time someone got into a fight with her, it quickly went downhill and the fight waged on for DAYS without end.
Smallfoot sighed in defeat. If she wasn't gonna keep her away, she'd at least accept her company.
"Check under the doormat! There's a key underneath!" Smallfoot called out as best she could, but wound up coughing even more.
Sour flipped the mat up and sure enough there was a spare key.
"You know Smallfoot... you really shouldn't put a key there. You might need a new hiding spot for it." Sour said through the door.
She unlocked the door and entered inside. On the couch was her girlfriend, who was covered up in a blanket on the couch. Her nose was red, her hair was messy, and her eyes looked incredibly sleep and in pain. A coffee table was pulled up right near within arm's reach which had a TV remote, and a box of tissues. Near the table was a trashcan that Sour could see had tissues piling up in it.
"Hey baby." Sour said with some sympathy.
"H-Hey, Sour..." Smallfoot moaned with another cough.
"Aww, sweetness..." Sour frowned. She walked over and she felt the top of her head which was very warm. "You've got a fever really bad huh?"
Smallfoot nodded. "And I've got a headache..."
"Is there anything I can get you?" Sour asked.
Smallfoot shook her head.
"Did you take any medicine?"
Smallfoot coughed. "I... I took some Ibuprofen."
Sour tapped her chin, thinking. Then she snapped her fingers.
"You just stay here, I'm going to make you some soup. Mind if I use your kitchen?"
"G-G ahead..." Smallfoot coughed harder.
"Actually... before I do anything..." Sour reached into her bag and she pulled out a small bottle. "I hope you don't mind, but I got you some cough medicine."
Smallfoot's face perked up and she gave a weak smile. "R-Really?"
"Yep!" Sour smiled.
Smallfoot held her arm up and coughed into it. Once she lowered her arm, she saw Sour pour some of the liquid medicine into a cup.
"Just take some of that and I'm gonna start on your soup."
Smallfoot did as asked and took the medicine cup without spitting it back out or convulsing in disgust. And in all honesty, she didn't care. She was just happy Sour still wanted to help her, even if it meant risking her own health just to make hers better.
As Sour began working on her soup, it gave her time to have a look at Smallfoot's apartment. Thankfully she wouldn't have to travel far for the counter she was working on was just only a few steps to the living room.
Several bookshelves contained some big DVD collections, and tons of science fiction books, including books that expanded into the mythologies of the worlds she read. There was even a rack for video games set up, along with books and guides for them too.
Her walls were streaked with a turquoise color, and her floors were shiny wood paneling. Posters of science fiction and horror genres were on display, along with posters of some of her favorite movies. She just smiled, looking at all of the cute things that were in her girlfriend's apartment. And as she walked around, exploring her girlfriend's place, she also found a few pictures that just made her smile.
On her girlfriend's laptop, her screen saver was a picture of herself and Smallfoot together, smiling, having fun, and Sour being held in her girlfriend's arms. And it wasn't just that, she found a few more pictures around that her and Smallfoot together. There was a photo of her and Smallfoot together at the movie theater, there was a photo of them together at a few amusement parks, and there was even a cute photo of them taking a stroll through nature.
As soon as Sour finished making the soup, she carefully poured some into a bowl and carefully walked over to her girlfriend who pulled herself up to take it.
"I finished your soup Smallfoot." Sour said she carefully gave her the bowl.
Smallfoot gave a weak smile. "Thanks sweetness."
Smallfoot took the spoon and took a few sips of it, and she felt herself relaxing.
"So, S-Sour..." Smallfoot said, sipping some more soup as her girlfriend sat on a chair next to her. "How are the rest of our friends doing?"
"Well, they wanted to see the movie anyway, and I said I was going to help my girl get better." Sour replied, taking a drink of water.
"But Sour..." Smallfoot coughed into her sleeve. "You didn't need to--"
"Smallfoot." Sour interrupted. "Mind if I interrupt you for a second?"
Smallfoot stopped talking and nodded, to let her talk.
"I know you didn't want me to get sick, I get it. But I couldn't just go to a movie knowing that you were in this condition. I had to come over. I love you more than anything in the world, and if means missing a new movie, fine. I can see it another time. But with you? I can't miss a moment in the world with you. I care for you more than some movie."
Smallfoot blew her nose and sniffled. "R-Really?"
"Yeah sweetness. I don't care if I'm missing some movie, I want to make you feel better. Okay?"
Smallfoot felt a glimpse of warmth in her heart, followed by a smile gracing her face.
"Aww, baby..." Smallfoot unfortunately coughed again, not able to finish her sentence. "T-That... that's so sweet of you."
Sour's cheeks heated up. "Aww, shucks..."
Smallfoot sighed as she took another sip of her soup. "You know... if I wasn't sick right now, I'd kiss your lips."
"Believe me, I want to too, but uh..."
"No, no, I get it." Smallfoot sighed. "Well, at least I've got your company. I'm thankful for that."
Sour smiled at her. "And I'm just glad that my efforts will hopefully make you feel better."
For a moment, the girls were in silence.
"Hey Sour? I know I won't be going anywhere for the time being... want to play a game?"
"Sure, why not?"
Smallfoot smiled. "Look on the rack behind me, there should be a few Gamestation games that might be interesting to you."
Sour grinned as she went behind the couch in the open space where she could grab a game off the shelf. After a few minutes of looking, she found one that interested her and she popped it into the game player. With the two controls at the ready, the two girls got ready to start the game.
"I wonder how the rest of the Bolts are doing." Smallfoot stated.
"I'm sure they're enjoying the movie without us. Hopefully some obnoxious kid is hitting the back of their seats." Sour stewed.
One Movie Viewing Later...
Lemon Zest and Indigo Zap were sprawled in their seats with stupid grins on their faces, Sunny Flare was sitting up with a horrified look on her face, and Sugarcoat was rubbing her chin, having analytical thoughts.
"Huh. That was better than I imagined it to be." Sugarcoat said.
"Thank the gods, it's over!" Sunny groaned, cupping her face.
"You know..." Lemon sighed. "We're gonna have to come back to this movie again.
"Oh you know it..." Indigo said with a little excitement.
A couple of days had passed since Smallfoot's sickness, and now she was now clean from her flu, fresh as a whistle. She was back to health again, she had more energy in her, and she was clean enough to give her girlfriend a peck on the cheek.
"Hey girls!" Smallfoot grinned, as she met the Shadowbolts together at the food court.
"Hey!" The girls cheered.
"Smallfoot, good to see you. Feeling any better?" Sunny said.
"Are you kidding? I feel great! The flu is gone, and I am back to my normal self again. So... how was the movie?"
"Without spoilers, please..." Sour said.
"I thought it was alright." Sugarcoat stated.
"It was TOO LONG!!!" Sunny whined.
"The movie was awesome!!!" Lemon grinned. "And that ending, oh... that ending was so beautiful... I can't believe--"
"Don't say it!" Sour growled.
"--Everyone died, I mean geez, its cruel, but they went out like heroes!"
Sour's face turned red with anger, steam fumed from her ears, and her teeth had become daggers.
"CURSE YOU LEMON ZEST!!!!" Sour screamed, her voice being heard all throughout the mall.
Smallfoot just lowered herself in her seat in fear.
"We're definitely going to get kicked out of the mall for sure..."
