The Only Human
A Strange New World
Load Full StoryChapter 1: A Strange New World
My name is Kamren Lee Campbell, and I’m a 15 year old. I live with my aunt and 3 cousins. I spend my time writing books or dabble with the internet, and I sometimes grow tired of everything presented in front of me. My aunt’s constant actions by riding me each passing day, as well as my cousins always making rude remarked with, as always, no assistance from the aunt. My life here is a living hell, each day worse than the last.
So one day, I looked at the sky above with it’s beautiful scenery. I wanted better, I DESERVE better than what I’ve recently been given, so I asked the heavens above for a life greater than this living agony I call a reality. So as the next day follows, I wake up to a shocking turn of events that would, into the eyes of others, would seem unbelievable. But in this world, I’m declared...The Only Human
The alarm in my pocket goes off, waking me up from the slumber I wish could go on forever. “Ahh...morning everyone.” I say, alerting my family of my presence. However, I receive no answer.
“Hello? Anyone?” I ask again, and no response was heard. I open my eyes and see something you'd never expect… a dark anonymous forest to which I`ve never seen before.
“What the hell? What's going on?” I ask myself as I look at my surroundings. I pull my glasses from my pocket and put them on my face, I then take a notice about this place, these evil-like trees and leafs have a cartoon appearance… Matter of fact, a lot of things seemed animation-like. The Grass, the sky, and even the ground beneath my feet reassembled a cartoon show appearance.
“Hello!? Can someone help me?!” I yelled as my voice echoes through the dead air, and as I expected...no response of any sort.
“Crap!” I keep saying to myself as I go through my only explanations for this. It took me a couple of minutes but I found my final conclusion.
“I got it! This is probably just another dream created by my obscure subconscious.” I said to myself. As I prepared to pinch myself, I had thoughts of the wonderful thoughts of having this...rather weird dreamscape my mind had conjured up.
“Take that dream!” are the words I HOPED to say, unfortunately for me...the pinching technique failed.
“What? NO!!! Damn you T.V and Cartoon physics!” I yelled in the depths of the unknown, demented forest.
“Great! Just wonderful! This possibly can't get any worse.” I said to myself. To a somewhat unexpected surprise, my stomach started growling. I sighed in grief and sat back down, questioning myself for my next actions.
“What the hell am I going to do?....I’m alone with no civilization for miles and I’m probably going to die here."
Few minutes later, I got back on my feet, thinking of a plan. “OK Kamren...What to do, what to do” I repeated to myself. I looked around and saw a bright light forward ahead of the dark forest.
“Hey...That looks like….A way out!” I realized. What was I doing here getting angry? The light was my answer!
“Well...only one way to find out where this all leads. As the munchkins of The Wizard of Oz suggested, follow the yellow brick road.” I said to myself, excited to find the way out of this damned place. And so my journey begins, I walk through this place only asking the one reasonable and sensible question anyone could ask if given this position…..Where Am I?
2 hours passed and here I am, still wandering through this place as tired as ever. “God damn it...Why did this have to happen to me out of all the people on the planet? Can't this happen to someone as bad as Michael Bay for ruining the TMNT and Transformers?” I argued with the gods of my existence.
For the past few hours, all I did was walk, sing, walk, talked, walked, and even more walk… And when you do that for a while, stuff gets to you real quick. As I continue to walk, my stomach growls in agony.
“Shit...what am I gonna eat?” I asked myself. I looked around once more and to my luck, I found a long stick which seemed sturdy enough for combat.
“Perfect.” I grabbed the stick, sat on a nearby rock, and grabbed my pocket knife to sharpen one end of the stick, making it similar to a spear. After a couple of minutes had passed, the weapon had finally been complete and so I continued my walk with the spear in my hand.
Now here is where the real problem arises, while I may have an experience in making weapons out of sticks thanks to my time in Boy Scouts, I however didn't have any knowledge of catching my meals. So for the past half-hour, I tried catching small animals such as Rabbits, Squirrels and even Frogs, but each time I failed horribly. Each time I failed, I yelled in anger, causing many small creatures to flee in panic and maybe even alarmed a few people on the other side of the forest.
“(Screams loudly) WHY?! WHY MUST YOU MAKE MY LIFE A LIVING HELL!?!?!?” I yelled to the gods. I continued on with my walk in anger and a pinch of sadness. Never have I been so pissed at anything in my entire life.
“Is there at least any hope for me at all?” I asked myself. After finishing my sentence, I came to a halt as I noticed a green pair of eyes in a bush.
“Well...I think I might've found my luck.” I say to myself.
If there is one thing I know about catching animals, it is that I highly doubt my lunch would be willing to be eaten, so I try to persuade the creature.
“Hey lil buddy, you look like you're lost...come with me, I can help you if you come out of that bush.” I sounded like an idiot, and I think the green-eyed animal thought so too. I was hoping that my technique wouldn't end in failure, but my gut knew all the opposite. As I was starting to feel a bit happy with myself, the eyes came closer.
Anyone with a brain would know this would work...that is if they knew what I saw, as the eyes appeared, a creature unlike anything I’ve ever seen. A wolf-shaped like animal with the material of wood for skin growled at me. I looked at the trees and noticed claw marks on a couple of them, made by these observations, I could inference that this must have been the “Wood Wolf’s” territory and that it was giving me a fair warning to leave.
“OK...I see that you want me to leave, I will do what you must ask.” I said to the creature, hoping it could understand what I was saying.
I backed away slowly and it seemed to take in effect, the Wood Wolf looked like it was leaving me alone. Finally, something good happened to me, I won't have to worry about being prey to a predator…or at least that's what I originally thought.
As I walked away, I heard the Wood Wolf growl even louder than before, as I turned to the creature, I took notice that the eyes turned from it's light green to a hellish black with a pinch lavender purple. This creature was pissed for no good reason and my only instinct at the moment I had was to run, so I ran away from the murderous Wood Wolf in terror. One advantage I had over the beast was the fact that during my middle school year, I did track for all three grades, hence improving my speed, agility, and endurance. Even so, it was hard to get further from the beast but it can't help that it had 4 legs and I only had two.
To what seemed to last at least 5 minutes, The Wood Wolf chased me down, under, and all over this godforsaken forest. Unfortunately, we came to a dead end with a wall blocking my only chance of making out of this alive.
“Damn it! I’m screwed!” I yelled. The growling became louder through each passing second, with the Wood Wolf closer as time slowly passes. I turn behind me and see the Wolf, with a murderous tendency.
“(Crap!! What do I do!?!? Gotta think of something quick or I’ll be torn limb from limb!)” I thought. That's when I remembered my hunting spear, tucked inside the back of my white collared shirt, covered by my black hoodie jacket. I pulled the spear from my back and said to the Wolf,
“Alright….whatever you are, I’m gonna give you a fair warning like you did me. Leave to your side or suffer the consequences of your actions.” The Wood Wolf growled angrily and lunged at me with teeth sharp and ready to tear my flesh apart. Fortunately, I held the spear in between the Wolf’s teeth. I tossed the Wolf to the wall behind me and began to punch the thing’s face in...and it hurts as much as getting kicked in the groin, I mean...what did I expect? I’m punching an animal made of bark
The Wolf used it's lower body strength to push me away from itself a couple meters away, we ran to each other and continued to attack each other for about 3 minutes. At last one of us fell...unfortunately, that would be me. I lay in front of a tree, bruised, bleeding, and weak from every point in my body. I looked at the Wolf, whom seemed rather ready to make me into it's personal meal.
“Please….Give me mercy….” I pleaded. The Wood Wolf ignored my request and began to walk toward me.
“No….stop….” I begged over and over but it continued to walk. A few inches closer and I’ll be dead….that's what would happen if not for this miracle, The Wood Wolf suddenly has its eyes changed from its hellish black to the previous lime green, as it looked at me, it was shocked in horror and ran away as if it witnessed a murder.
“The hell?” I asked myself. Before I could say another word, the monster was gone in an instant.
I lay there for about 40 minutes before my body fully recovered. As soon as I could feel my arms and legs, I got up and grabbed my weapon just in case it comes back for more. I continued my voyage through the forest, before it was ruined by that Wood Wolf. About 30 minutes passed and I finally found my exit. The bright, shimmering light from before was shining through the dimmed darkness of this forest. As excited as I was, I quickly ran to the light with no hesitation required. I jumped through the light and gravity slammed my body to the rocky ground.
“Yes, Yes, YES! Finally! I’m free from the darkness!” I shout to the sky. I kiss the ground in happiness, sure it might have been embarrassing enough, but that didn't matter. After smooching the ground for 30 seconds, I halt and stood from the Earth, looking at my surroundings. Doing such gave me the best thing I could ever ask for right now.
“A house! Wow...how convenient.” I said as I wondered at the sight of a cottage sitting on the edge of where the forest lies. With no thoughts in my mind, I ran to the cottage, seeking for the help I desperately needed. When I reached the cottage, I knocked on the door 3 times, hoping anyone inside would hear it.
“Hang on there..I’m coming” said a voice coming from the house. I took notice that the voice was female and that the voice had a bit of shyness in it. “I’ve got a shy one, I guess that's not the first time its ever happened.” I spoke to myself quietly. The door opened and out came one of the strangest ‘things’ I’ve ever encountered.
“Now what can I do for you..EEP!” Shouted a yellow, light purple haired pony with wings. As our eyes met, we both yelled in horror.
“AHH! SOMEPONY HELP!!!” Screamed the pony as she slammed the door in front of me. As for myself, I ran down a nearby road faster than my legs could carry.
“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT THING!?” I screamed loudly as I ran. For the next couple of minutes, I ran down the road without knowing what lied ahead. All on my mind was how crazy my day was, I fought a Wolf made of Wood, almost died, and I’m running from a yellow pony who sounded like a nice person if I’m honest enough. Again, I feel like I’m dreaming but logic says otherwise.
After all the running I’ve endured, I find myself a village just head from where I was, so I ran toward it. I think my curiosity today just might be my greatest downfall because when I entered the village, all I could see are more ponies like the one I encountered. Some had wings, some had horns, and some had neither. But one thing was for sure, when they looked at me...they screamed and ran in terror.
“Its the monster the princess told us! Everypony Run!” Yelled a pony in the background.
As I see ponies scramble for their lives, I yelled to the ponies, saying “Wait! Don't run!” Unfortunately, they hid in their homes, waiting me to leave the town.
“Am I sure this ain’t a dream? Cause its starting to feel like it.” I ask myself. Somepony? Talking colorful horses with horns and wings? Wood creatures? At this point, I start to lose my sanity and began to yell across the atmosphere.
“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?! WHO ARE YOU?!?! WHERE AM I?!?!” I shout to the sky. I soon enough get my answer. A few minutes later, I hear feminine voices behind me, 6 to be exact. I turn around and see 6 ponies walking toward me, each different and physically unique.
“Hello...I’m sure you have many questions about this.” Said a purple pony with wings and a horn.
“Like hell I am! I want to know what's going on! And I don't have much patience either.” I replied to the pony’s introduction.
“Well you have to come with us, we'll answer all your questions.” Said the Purple pony.
“And what if I don't comply?” I retaliated.
“We’ll force you to come, and we don't want to do that, believe it or not sugarcube.” Replied an orange pony with a cowboy hat.
“Yep, not gonna take that chance...later!” I finished as I ran away.
“Don't let him get away!” Commanded the purple pony. As soon as the pony gave the order, a blue pegasus was hot on my trail.
Before I could get any further, the pegasus was inches away from my face. “Come on dude, it’ll make it a whole lot easier.” Said the blue pegasus.
Normally, as any person would when faced with a situation such as mine, I grabbed a hold of the Pegasus's legs and threw her to a nearby building. As the others caught up, they saw their comrade on the floor in pain. “Oh...you're gonna regret that." Threatened the pegasus.
“How exactl--” I was cut off my the pegasus as I endured the worst beating possible. She kicked me in the stomach, punched me so hard I flew to the air, rapidly kicked me all-round, and slammed me to the ground. As I lay on the ground, weakened, I started to fade into darkness as my vision becomes blurry. Before I was knocked out cold, I heard them go with their conversation.
“Rainbow Dash! Was that necessary!?” Yelled the purple pony.
“I was thrown to the wall by that thing! He deserved it Twilight!” Replied the pegasus, whom I presumed to be Rainbow Dash, to the purple pony, who must have been Twilight.
“Honestly, I’m sure we could have talked it out.” Said the cowpony.
“What are we gonna do with him?” Asked the yellow pegasus from earlier, she must have called them to ‘stop’ me.
“We’ll take him to Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, they’ll know what to do.” Answered Twilight.
Before I heard anymore, I faded to darkness, knocking me out instantly. This day has been absolutely insane so far, and this is only the beginning of my story in this Strange New World.
I have many questions to ask...and not all of them are pleasing...not in the slightest
