A Shadow's journey
A god, a princess and a one
Load Full StoryPrincess Celestia, ruler of Equestria, the solar guardian sat upon her throne with her usual motherly smile as the throne rooms grand doors fell shut. As soon as they finally shut, her shoulders sagged as they always did during this small respite after day court. It went the same as every other time, nobles using fancy words to try and acquire more money so that they could shove more food down their gullets and the poor requesting money because they could get a job. 'At least I was able to help the homeless' she thought, a common one that always managed to bring a smile to her face.
As she rose from her throne to leave, she felt something in the thaumic field shift. She passed it off as a spell gone wrong and continued on her way, until she felt the field shift again, but more violently, and yet it seemed as though it was perfectly formed. She quickly cast a spell that allowed her to look into the thaumic dimension, where all magic stemmed from, and flinched at what she saw. The network of energy that normally flowed softly from one space to another like water had coalesced into a doorway. She could not figure out where the doorway led or what it affected. She reached her hand out to grasp the simple handle.
As soon as she grasped it, it dissipated from the thaumic dimension, but she felt it nonetheless, a cold grip on her palm. 'where is it?' was the one thought that coursed through her mind. She let the spell and the handle go, stepping back as she felt a massive shift in the dimensional barrier of Equis. She felt a small bout of fear enter her mind, but crushed it quickly. She had only encountered one being other than herself that could alter the dimensional barrier, but she did not feel the signature edge of chaos he leaves when he does such things. No this was new to her. The way it pierced the barrier with practiced ease, how it formed a perfect door.
A new shift. The door opens. She feels power, power enough to create fear in her that she could not get rid of, for it dwarfed hers by an immeasurable amount. She felt something coming out of the door and retreated. She summoned her rapier, Solis, which burned with the heat of the star it was forged in. Armor cloaked itself around her, its entirety covered in arcane circles designed to stop most attacks. With her blade in hand and armor cloaking her, she readied herself.
Before her appeared a strange beast. It towered over her. While she sat at two meters tall, he was easily three. He had pale skin. He was humanoid, wearing a black robe that covered most of his body, only exposing his hands, eyes and hair. It was traced with purple lines that seemed to hold magic, and was clasped with a metal crow's head. His hair was grey and short. But all of this barely registered on Celestia's mind as her eyes had gravitated to his. The right eye was quite normal, had whites, a pupil, a purple iris, but the iris pulsed with magical power, magic foreign even to her. His right eye however was a different story. Where the eye should have been, there was only blackness. Above that was a magic circle, a series of circles, lines and curves, pure red in coloration. Along the edge of the outer most circle was writing in an ancient language. She could not glean much information about the circle except the it was a seal in nature. She felt that this creature did not have the same level of power as what she felt through the door.
She stood, ready, waiting for her opponent to make the first movement. She did that for five minutes, before she stood down, confused. The giant had not moved a muscle since it arrived. Dispelling her armor, she took a step forward, and another, and another, then she started walking towards it. As she got closer she could see that it was indeed not moving, in anyway whatsoever. it did not twitch, it's robes did not flicker in the wind and it did not breathe. She decided to be diplomatic, engage it in conversation. "Greetings, I am Princess Celestia Co-ruler of Equestria and mover of the sun, who are you?" She inquired. It did not answer. She had a feeling she had a long day ahead of her.
I was locked in battle with some warrior, claimed himself to be the one who would kill gods and become god himself. I was none to pleased when he disturbed me to follow through with his plan. I was barely trying and was still not in any danger whatsoever. I was dodging his attacks by breaking the dimensional barrier and appearing in another spot nearby. Sure I had other methods of teleportation that cost less energy and don't require trillions of calculations to run in seconds, but I had to keep my mind sharp and it made the battle more interesting. This time as I appeared i loosed my first attack, simple lash of shadows that that cleanly ripped off his left arm, letting blood flow down his side as the now exposed shoulder joint became coated in crimson. To the credit of the warrior he barely flinched. As he swung his sword once more, I broke the barrier and moved.
'Somethings wrong' was my first thought when I didn't just appear where I wished to. I looked back at my calculations to determine what went and quickly found the problem. When I was recalculating what the dimensional coordinates of where I wanted to be, I forgot to carry the one. Now some of you may be asking why I didn't just go back with the now correct numbers. The answer is that I couldn't you can only set a location to travel to before you create a dimensional rift.
After a year or two of travel, I arrived... somewhere. I sent out a small pulse of magic to work out where I was in the universe. Turns out I had entered a new one. I sent out another pulse, this one mapping the world I was on. I learned that it was inhabited by anthropomorphic ponies, go figure. It also had a couple of mythical creatures, nothing i truly cared about. I finally observed my surroundings. 10 guards, one captain, 4 monarchs and 5 civilians. How boring. My body appeared to be in lock-down after only a few years of travel through the shattered dimension that exists beyond all dimensional barriers.
I raised my arm.
Twilight and her friends had come to Canterlot after being summoned by princess Celestia and being told to bring the elements of harmony. Cadance and Shining armor had come from the crystal empire. Luna had woken from her slumber. Celestia selected her best guards. She would not let this being have any chance to strike without being assaulted by the full might of equestria. Movement. It's arm was raised to it's face. "Greetings" It 'said'. It did not truly speak so much as assault their minds with words.
She started her diplomacy again "Greetings, I am Princess Celestia, co-r-"
"I know who you are sun guardian, I know who you all are. The moon guardian Luna, the love seer Cadance, the mage Twilight Sparkle, the jester Pinkamena Diane Pie, the giver Rarity, the faithful Rainbow dash, the truth seeker Applejack, the caring Fluttershy, the captain come prince Shining armor, 10 elite guards and an ordinary dragon. Am I wrong?". They all froze up. They stood still as he started to move to the door. "STOP THY PASSAGE FOUL CREATURE" screamed Luna, fully utilizing the royal Canterlot voice. The beast whipped around and spoke "Silence Moon guardian, or would you have me destroy you?" Though his words were calm, they came with more force than even than even Luna's royal one.
Luna grew furious and launched her first strike. She loosed a volley of magic missiles towards him. It stood its ground. Luna smirked, knowing that she had laced her missiles with magic nullifiers that would activate when they touched his body. He then spoke just before they hit "SHATHRAN TARAIND DRAIASTAN". The words dripped with magic. The missiles stopped in front of his eye and slowly drained their magic into the red seal. "pitiful, were you even trying?".
It seems I was in another battle with someone I far outclassed. "I will leave and none of you shall follow, understood?". Even as I said this I could feel energy build in the horns and hand of the ones who had access to magic. I walked to the grand doors and placed a hand upon their cold steel. Then all their spells were loosed. I let them hit me, shred my body to into thousands of pieces. 'all according to plan'. I created a new body sitting upon the throne. I did this by creating a shadow body, which used my magical potential as my physical strength, but they are easily destroyed. I had used this trick before, actually I used it nearly every day. "Are you done fucking around?" I asked half smirking, half grinning under my robe. They whipped around to see me as looked past them at my bloodied corpse.
I then saw something peculiar. The mage and her friends were floating with magical power. "The elements of harmony? I'm disappointed that you haven't even tried diplomacy yet". I sighed "Fine try it, see where it gets you". Light, burning hot stabbing light piercing my body and annihilating it. The elements spoke to me, tried to tell me to give in, so I told this earthly power my name, a name known across the multiverse as the name of the god you don't want to fight. Their power subsided Immediately, I could feel the fear emanating from them. "Would you like to talk with me now, or are you going to try more futile attempts at killing me?".
Twilight spoke up "What did you do to the elements!?".
I laughed and stated "I told them my name, nothing else". I felt that it was time I told them my name and a few of my titles. "I am Shadow Darklight, god of death, god of shadows, god of magic, the crowfather and the only being older than the universe.
