A few days ago, Twilight was walking through Ponyville when she felt a gust of wind fly past her. Originally, she assumed it was Rainbow Dash trying to beat one of her speed records. But she saw a feather on the ground that couldn't be from her friend. The feather was crimson red, and it was shaped in an odd way, almost like it was a bloodstained dagger. She kept the feather to see if she could find anything out about it, or what it came from. She found very little information about it, but one book mentioned a legend, of a bird called the "Crimson Eagle." The book had unfortunately been badly damaged, and was unable to tell Twilight anything but the name of the bird. Now she's on a quest to find out more about this bird, but she's not the only one interested in it...

The Legend Begins

Twilight had read almost every book in her castle library, and she had found nothing. Spike brought her food, but she never left the library, she even slept in there. Twilight sighed and said, “There’s got to be something in here about this feather!”

Spike walked in with lunch for Twilight and said, “No offense to your intellect, but don’t you think you would know to look in the Myths and Legends of Equestria section? You’ve been spending the last 7 hours in the Medicinal Magic Flora section.”

Twilight froze and looked at the cover of the book she was holding, titled ‘1001 Medicinal Uses for Poison Joke.’ She blushed and giggled nervously and said, “Sorry Spike, I’ve been a bit scatterbrained lately trying to find a book about that feather.”

Spike muttered to himself, “Seems Rainbow Dash was right, the egg has finally cracked.” as he set Twilight’s lunch on a table. “I’ll let you eat, but you do remember you have Dash’s Wonderbolt Show to catch, right?”

Twilight's eyes widened, she had completely forgotten about that! She ran past her lunch and said, "I'll get something to eat at the stadium! I don't have time to sit down, I'm almost late as it is!" She ran as fast as she could, and luckily, made it in time to join her friends to watch Rainbow Dash.

Rarity looked at Twilight and said, "You were almost late darling. That's not like you, has something been bothering you?"

Before Twilight could answer, the fanfare that was commonly played when the Wonderbolts started a show played, silencing her. As the show started, Twilight and her friends cheered for Rainbow Dash as she prepared the Sonic Rainboom. After Rainbow Dash had gotten out of her uniform and met up with her friends, she said, "Man that was epic!"

Twilight smiled and said, "You did great Dash. I'm sorry to say, but I can't stay. I've still got research to do on that feather."

Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes and said, "I've said it once and I'll say it again. The egg has finally cracked. You've been trying to find out about that dumb feather for the last three days, if you haven't found anything by now, I doubt you'll ever find anything."

Applejack nodded and said, "While I don't agree with Dashie's remark, she's right. You've been studying that ol' feather for days and haven't come up with jack diddly squat. Maybe it's 'bout time you gave up, at least for now."

Rarity raised an eyebrow and said, "Applejack, I know you and Dash may be dating, but is that any reason to always take her side?"

Applejack blushed and said, "I do not always take her side just because she's my girlfriend!"

Pinkie squealed in excitement and said, "Oh boy! Flashback time!" she jumped up and pulled down a scene where Applejack agreed to go to the Fillydelphia Grand Prix with Dash, even though she couldn't stand professional Pegasi racing. Then she did it again when Applejack agreed to see another Daring Do movie, when she had her heart set on seeing Agents of N.E.I.G.H.S. Finally, she brought up one last flashback where Applejack reluctantly agreed to a electrocution kink Rainbow Dash had.

During the third flashback, Applejack yelled, "Ok! We get the point! Don't you dare show the readers flashbacks of our private romantic scenes!"

Rainbow Dash made a neck chopping motion towards the screen and said, "Ixnay, ixnay!"

A voice from nowhere sighed and said, "Fine, kill all the fun I have writing this stuff. Moving on..."

Twilight sighed, crossing her arms and said, "It's my decision on what I do with my research time. I'm going to Celestia and Luna's old castle to see if there's anything there that could help."

A woman with a long brown trench coat and a fedora covering her face walked by and heard Twilight. She turned to her and said, "Ah, Princess Twilight I presume? If you're going to the Castle of the Two Sisters, might I accompany you? I'm doing research for a novel of mine, and I was thinking of heading up to the castle for my research as well."

Rainbow Dash's eyes widened when she heard the woman's voice and squealed saying, "I know that voice! You're A.K. Yearling!"

The woman took her hat off to show her face and said, "I suppose there's no hiding from you. I remember seeing you at my last book signing. Rainbow Dash, wasn't it? I'd normally love to sit down and get to know my fans a bit better, but if I don't get enough research done, I'll have trouble with my next Daring Do book."

Twilight smiled and said, "If you're going to the Castle of the Two Sisters for research, I'd be honored to go with you."

Rainbow Dash's wings were practically twitching from excitement as she said, "I'll come along too!"

Twilight raised an eyebrow and said, "And who's the one who just said I should take a break from my research?"

Rainbow Dash blushed and said, "Ok! I'm sorry! I'll help you look for any research you need if I get to go along!"

Twilight giggled and said, "I'm just teasing you Dash, of course you can come with us, if A.K. Yearling is alright with it."

A.K. nodded and said, "It sounds like a great idea." as the three of them started walking towards the old castle, A.K. asked, "If you don't mind me asking, what are you going to be researching?"

Twilight pulled out the feather from her bag and said, "I found this feather a few days ago. It's as sharp as a dagger, and it almost looks like it's soaked in blood."

A.K. looked at the feather with interest and said to herself, "That's definitely the same feather I found... it seems destiny has intertwined me and Princess Twilight. Good Celestia I hate working with others... but it seems I don't have much choice this time."

As they looked around the Castle of the Two Sisters' library, Rainbow Dash yelled out, "Hey! I found a book with a picture of the feather!"

Twilight and A.K. ran over to Rainbow Dash and Twilight read the title of the book, "The Crimson Eagle. Its feathers are as sharp as daggers, and red as blood. It leaves feathers for those who it deems worthy of... Darn, the book's too damaged beyond that... But at least it's a start."

A.K. sighed and said, "Well, this isn't normally my style, but I might as well be honest." she took off her glasses and her trench coat, revealing who she really was, Daring Do. "It seems that you and I have been brought together for a reason Princess." she pulled out her own feather and both hers and Twilight's gave off a faint blue light. "I'm not one for working with others, but I don't think I have a choice this time. You're welcome to join us too Rainbow Dash."

Rainbow Dash almost fainted from the excitement at meeting her hero and the fact she offered to let her go on an adventure with her, "If this is a dream, I don't want to wake up from it!"

And so begins Daring Do's latest adventure, "Daring Do and the Legend of the Crimson Eagle."
