She was silent most of the time, only saying a few words. Yeah, she was shy, but not THIS shy. “Why....why is always me!”?, said a sad voice. Angel knew the voice all to well, that was another thing he had become accustomed to. She would often break down in either tears, or a shaking fit, but both equally frightened the bunny. “Everypony has something they love dearly! Twilight has Derpy, Pinkie has parties, Marble has Big McIntosh, and the others have their own special love, but what do I have?!?!”, she cried, obviously in pain. Angel finally decided to intervene, snuggling into her mane. He hoped that she would notice him, but those chances were pretty slim. Just then, they heard the bushes outside rattle, indicating a presence within them. Fluttershy got up, wiped her tears, and made her way to the door. She was scared, but she didn’t feel it. “Stay here Angel, momma will be back soon”, she said to her bunny. Angel nodded, and climbed to the window seal, watching for owners safety. Fluttershy made her way into the summer night, hoping to find the creature that made the noises. “Hello? I-I’m not going to harm you. Please, just come ou-“, she said, but stopped when something caught her eye. She saw what looked like a tail sticking out of a bush. At first, she backed up, she thought it may have been an intruder. But something in her heart told her to go forward, and she obliged. She tip-hooved towards the bush. What she found would change her life forever. She looked her the bush and gasped. There, in the summer night, was a colt, no more than 9 or 10, sleeping in the bush. He had a white coat, and a red mane, and was wearing a wool not cap. Attached to the cap, was a note. “To whom it may concern, Pleas take care of my foal, He is very shy Sincerely, A lost soul.” That last part made Fluttershy shiver, what did that mean. She carefully picked the colt up, making sure not to wake him. She made her way into her cottage, colt in arms. The animals looked curiously at this colt, almost as if he were a new toy in a toy shop. Fluttershy floated up her stairs, and into her bedroom. She placed the colt under the covers, making sure he was comfortable. She backed up slowly, but tripped over a desk. “Oh! Goodness!”, she said, in a bit of a loudness whisper. This was enough to wake up the sleeping colt. His head moved left to right, and the he sat up. He looked confused at first, he hadn’t recognized this place. He then noticed the butter colored mare on the ground. He yelped and hid under the covers. “Oh, it’s ok! I’m not going to hurt you!”, she said, trying to calm him down. She heard his whimpers as he slowly peered up, tears running down his cheeks. “Please, don’t be afraid. I’m not going to hurt you.im just trying to help you”, she said calmly. The colt looked at her, and got up from the bed. He trotted over and looked into her blue orbs. Fluttershy’s heart skipped a beat, she had never seen a look of helplessness like that. He slowly open his mouth to say something, but soon decided to be quiet. “Would you like something to eat?”, she asked. He nodded and she led him to the kitchen. She made him a daisy sandwich. She watched him slowly eat it, looking her in the eyes ever once in a while. He finished and pushed his plate to the side. Fluttershy put the plate in the sink, intending to wash it later. “Can you just answer me one thing?”, she asked him. He looked nervous, but nodded anyway. “What is your name?”, she asked him. He gulped but soon spoke up, “M-My name is Silent Night”, he said with a bit of a stutter. Fluttershy gave a friendly smile. His voice was soothing. “Nice to meet you, Silent Night. My name is Fluttershy”, she introduced herself. “Nice to meet you”, he replied, trying to smile. “Can I ask you something?”, he asked. “Of course, ask away”, she said, taking a seat by him. “Why did you bring me in here?”, he asked. Fluttershys almost didn’t know what to say, how could she answer this? “Well....I just though you needed help. You were sleeping in a bush”, she said with a blush. He only looked down, “You-didn’t have to do that”, he said. “But I wanted to...”, she said. “Are you sure?”, he shot back. Fluttershy nodded. “Can I ask one more question?”, he asked. “Yes, you may”, she replied back. “Well...I don’t exactly have a home. I was wondering if...”, he trailed off, to embarrassed to finish. “You can stay here, I don’t mind one bit”, she said with a smile. The colts face lit up, he looked happy. He trotted over to Fluttershy and embraced her: “Thank you”, he said, whispering into her ear. Fluttershy could only hug back, she was too emotional to say anything else. “I think you should get some rest, it’s important after all”, she said, wiping away tears. He nodded and followed her upstairs. Once they arrived, he got under the covers. “Goodnight, Silent Night. Sweet dreams”, she said, turning to walk out. “Wait!”, he shouted, tears in his eyes. “What is it?”, she asked concerned. “P-Please don’t leave me alone! I don’t want to be alone again!”, he said, tears streaming freely. Fluttershy nearly teared up herself, and walked over to the bed. She turned of the lamp and got under the covers. He embraced her and cried into her side. Fluttershy wrapped her wing around, protecting him from the loneliness he feared. “Don’t worry, I’m here....you can always count on me”, she said, kissing his forehead. //-------------------------------------------------------// Advice //-------------------------------------------------------// Advice Fluttershy and Silently Night trotted through town. She thought that he needed to get out and see the town. Maybe that would help him, at least she hoped it would. She soon saw The Castle Of Friendship, and decided to visit Twilight. “Do you want to meet a special friend of mine, Silent?”, she asked with a grin. “Uh, s-sure”, he said nervously. They trotted up to the castle door, and Fluttershy knocked. The door opened to reveal a small purple dragon. “Hey Fluttershy, what brings you here? Who is that?”, Spike asked, looking behind Fluttershy. Silent Night cowered behind Fluttershy, he had never seen a dragon before. “I’ll explain later, Spike. May I come in?”, she asked nicely. Spike moved back and let the two in. Silent Night was amazed, he was in a castle! He didn’t know who lived here, but they were sure lucky. “Hello, Fluttershy”, a friendly voice said. Silent looked over and saw someone he thought he would never meet. Princess Twilight Sparkle, in the flesh. “Yes I do Twilight, you can come out Silent”, she said, calling for Silent. Silent slowly emerged from behind Fluttershy, trying to keep his head down. Twilight was curious about the foal, and so was Spike. “Um, Fluttershy, why is their a young colt following you?”, Twilight said. Fluttershy then told the story of Silent Night and why he was here. Twilight listened to every word, she was genuinely concerned for his well being. “Well, it sure is nice to meet you Silent Night”, she said, looking towards the quiet colt. Silent bowed his head in respect for the princess. “Oh, you don’t need to do that. If your with Fluttershy, then it’s not necessary”, she said with a blush. Silent looked up at the princess and nodded. He then backed up behind Fluttershy. “Silent, can you give us some time alone, please?”, Fluttershy asked nicely. Silent nodded and walked out of the room, leaving the two mares. “He sure is a little gentlecolt, Fluttershy”, Twilight said with a smile. “I know, he’s adorable”, she said with a smile. “What are you going to do with him?”, Twilight asked. “I’m not sure.......”, Fluttershy said, tears forming in her eyes. Twilight trotted over and embraced her friend. She too was stumped about the situation, what was Fluttershy going to do? She couldn’t give him to some orphanage, she couldn’t live with herself if she did that. She was running out of options. “What if......you adopted him”, Twilight suggested. Fluttershy teared up and looked down. Twilight just looked on, she didn’t know what agency could say in situation. “I don’t think I can.....”, Fluttershy said sadly. “Why not? Your an amazing caretaker for your animals, I’m sure you could translate that into being a mother”, Twilight added with a smile. “What..What if I’m not the one he wants? What if I can’t be the one he needs....”, she said. “Don’t say that”, a voice said from behind. It was Silent Night. He trotted slowly to Fluttershy. “In the two days I’ve been staying with you, you’ve shown me more love than I’ve ever felt. Momma loved me, but she’s didn’t love me as much as you do. I want to stay with you, please don’t make me go”, he said, tears eyed. Fluttershy was speechless, she couldn’t talk even if she’s wanted to. Silent Night embraced her and nuzzled her neck. Fluttershy nuzzled back and just sobbed. They were close for a moment, until Fluttershy pulled away. “Is this what you want, Silent Night? For me to care for you?”, she asked. “Yes, Yes I do.”, he replied. “Then consider it done, Silent Night.”, she smiled, crying tears of joy. “Thank you so much.....Mom”, he said, tears of joy forming in husband eyes. Fluttershy looked at her colt. HER colt, HER family. It was the greatest feeling she had ever had. //-------------------------------------------------------// Meeting The Elements //-------------------------------------------------------// Meeting The Elements When word got around that Fluttershy had adopted a colt, the other Elements rejoiced. Pinkie was so happy, that she decided to throw a party for the new family, one that would take place on Friday. Today was Wednesday, and Silent Night had just gotten back from school. He was highly intelligent in every subject, which didn’t surprise Fluttershy. “Hi Mom”, he said to Fluttershy. “Hello, Silent. How was your day?”, she asked. “Great! We did a lot of math, which made Everypony mad, but I didn’t mind. One filly even-“, he said, continuing his reply. Fluttershy listened to every word, she loved hearing him talk, his voice filled her with so much happiness. He soon finished and went silent. “Are you excited about Friday?”, she asked with a smile. “U-Uh..Yeah”, he said, looking a bit shaken. “What’s wrong?”, she asked with a concerned look. “I-it’s just.......I don’t like big crowds. They scare me”, he said. “Oh, honey it’ll be ok. You’ll do just fine. Everyone is so excited to meet you and I’m sure you’ll love all of them”, she assured her son. —————————————————————— Today was the day of Pinkie Pie’s “Welcome To The Family, Silent Night!” party. The little colt in question, however, was feeling really nervous. Meeting a bunch of new ponies was a challenge for him, so he wasn’t sure how much he could handle. As the time drew closer, Fluttershy began to comfort him. “Honey, I promise you’ll be ok. There’s nothing to worry about, trust me”, she said while looking at her son. He nodded and they made their way to Sugarcube Corner. Every step made Silent worry more, he was not sure what to do. As they approached the front entrance, Silent hid behind his mother. “It’s ok Silent, Momma will protect you”, she assured her son. They walked in to cheers and a offers of congratulation. Silent just stayed quiet and followed his mother. “Alright Everypony, welcome to a very special party, where we will welcome our newest family member, Silent Night”, said Pinkie Pie, holding a mic on top of a stage. “First things first, Silent is going to sit on the stage, and Everypony else is going to talk and meet him, take all the time you want”, she said as she walked off the stage. Fluttershy nudged Silent to go on the stage, he obliged and walked on the stage and sitting in an office chair. After he sat down, the greeting began. “Hiya! I’m Pinkie Pie! I’m so happy to finally meet you, Silent Night!”, she said, wrapping the colt in a hug. Applejack was next, “Howdy there, partner. Ah’m Applejack, But y’all can call me AJ if ya like!”, she said, extending her hoof. Silent shook her hoof Android nodded, allowing Rainbow Dash to step up. “Sup, I’m Rainbow Dash, it’s nice to meet ya”, she said. Silent smiled and nodded, as Rarity came up next. “Well, aren’t you just a handsome devil? I’m Rarity, please call me whatever you like”, she said, giving him a warm smile. He returned the smile, and looked to see who was next. “It’s nice to see you again, Silent Night, welcome to The the family”, said Twilight. Silent nodded and noticed that three fillies were next in line. “Hi!”, they said in unison. “I’m Sweetie Belle, this is AppleBloom, and that’s Scootaloo”, the unicorn said. “Howdy”, said AppleBloom. “Sup”, said Scootaloo. Silent recongnized them from his class, and they walked off. The rest said their greetings and the real party began. The music was provided by DJ P-O-N-3, and as usual, dubstep blasted through the bakery. Silent was silently dancing, until he felt the urge to say something. He trotted up to Pinkie Pie and pulled her tail. “Pinkie Pie?”, he said. “Hey Silent! What do you need?” She responded, full of energy. “I-I want to say something to Everypony” he said with caution. “Alrighty!”, Pinkie said, and then went over DJ and cut the music. “Hey Everypony! Silent wants to say something!”, she said, putting him on the stage. Everypony was excited, this was the first time they were going to hear him speak. “I-Uh, just wanted to say thank you. This is the most fun i’ve ever had”, he said, blushing. Everypony awwed and clapped their hooves together. “Thanks Everypony, you’ve made happier than I’ve ever been”, he said, tears of joy forming within his blue pupils. Fluttershy cried with him, her purpose was realized then and there. She was his Guardian Angel, Andy she wouldn’t never want anything else more. Silent met his mothers gaze, he wasn’t thinking the same thing. //-------------------------------------------------------// Tears and Toast //-------------------------------------------------------// Tears and Toast Fluttershy awoke to a nuzzle on her chest. She looked down to see her “visitor” getting rather comfortable. Her face formed a grin as she nuzzled him back. He woke up and stared into her eyes. “Good morning sleepyhead”, she said said with a smile. “G-good morning”, he said with a blush. “It’s ok, you’re were just getting comfortable, I don’t mind one bit”, she replied in a calm voice. He smiled and nuzzled her again. “Thank you”, he said. “Your welcome, little one”, she said, understanding his thanks. His stomach soon grumbled, and he blushed yet again. She giggled and spoke, “Cmon, lets get some breakfast”, she said with a smile. They went downstairs and had some toast, Fluttershy prefered butter, but Silent had giant plain. “Do you like it, Silent?”, she said. “Yes, ma’m. It’s very good”, he said with good manners. Fluttershy felt nice inside, having a little colt around was great, it kept her happy. But then, reality hit her. What was she going to do? She had promised him that he could stay here, but could SHE handle it?. “Ms. Fluttershy? Are you ok?”, he asked, looking concerned at the mare. Fluttershy snapped out of it and nodded, blushing at the fact that she zoned out. “It’s ok, I....do that too”, he said, trying to make her feel better. She was amazed, how could one being make her smile so much? Honestly, she didn’t mind if she’s never found out. “Silent, I need to ask you something”, she said, switching up her tone to be serious. He nervously nodded and she started to talk. “Why were outside my home? Where are your parents? Are they.......”, she stopped when she noticed that the colt was silently sobbing. She grasped him in an embrace, she hated seeing such an innocent soul in pain. “Momma told me to go....far away. She put something on my hat and locked me out”, he said in between sobs. Fluttershy was stunned, what kind of monster locks their goal out, it just upset her. “But why, why would she do that?”, she asked. His crying ceased, and he looked as serious as stone in her eyes. “Dad would hit us....but he did it out of love. He always told us he loved us, and we all believed him. One night, he came home, and he just kept hitting. Momma knocked him out, and told me to go. I didn’t want to go, but she made me. After she locked me out, I just listened from the outside. I heard a scream, and I knew what happened. I went back the next day, and found a crime scene”, he said, shivering from the memory. Dear Celestia, that was too much. Fluttershy welted with him for what seemed like hours. She held him close, almost like a mother would. “Silent, I’m so sorry, I’m just so sorry”, she said, weeping into his ear. He just cried even more, he didn’t know what he was going to do. //-------------------------------------------------------// Welcome, Silent Night //-------------------------------------------------------// Welcome, Silent Night Fluttershy and Silent Night both smiled as they made their way to the orphanage. For both of them, it was a new chapter in their lives. As they entered the orphanage, Fluttershy began to tremble. “Are you ok Mom?”, Silent Night asked his surrogate mother. “Yes, honey, Mommy is ok. I’m just nervous”, she said back. They both went up to the front desk, and were immediately greeted by a purple earth pony. “Hello, welcome to Ponyville Orphanage, my name is Happy Heart, how may I help you?”, she said with a smile. “Hello, my name is Fluttershy, and I want to adopt a foal”, she said nervously. “Alright, do you have the foals name?”, she asked. “Well, he’s right here”, she said, pointing to Silent Night. “Hmm, I’ve never seen this colt, where did he come from?”, Happy Heart asked. Fluttershy told the story of the past three days, noting the circumstances. By the end, Happy Heart has tears. “Oh my, that’s just heartbreaking! If you’ll just register him, then you can seal the adoption”, she said, pulling out a form. Fluttershy singed the form and waited for the next one. “Alright, now just sign this, and he’ll be your adopted son”, she said with a smile. Fluttershy looked at Silent Night, who smiled back. Her decision was a no brainer. Fluttershys singed and handed it back to Happy Heart. “Congratulations, you’ve adopted Silent Night. May your future be bright”, Happy Heart said with a smile. “Thank you”, Silent Night said to the worker. “Your welcome, but I’m not the one who you should be thanking”, she said, looking at Fluttershy. “I’ve already told her thank you, ma’m”, he said with a smile towards his new mother. Happy Heart nodded and the new family walked off. Happy Heart just smiled, “I just know those two are perfect for each other”, she said.
