Memories of the past
Chapter 1 of 3
Load Full StoryNext ChapterDiscord sighed as he gazed up at the partially cloudy sky. He was currently resting in the branches of a tall oak tree. Watching as the clouds slowly moved across they sky. Normally, he would change the clouds shapes and forms with his magic. But, this time he decided to use something that he hardly used. His imagination. He began to imagine the clouds changing their forms on their own. Some of them looked like animals he liked. While others looked like various foods and buildings. He then focused on one cloud; a small one that had broken off from a larger cloud. Its form changed into that of a certain pegasus. A pegasus that had not only managed to reform him. But, she also managed to steal his heart. He let out an irritated growl while he shook his head.
“Why must I feel like this?” He asked himself as his eyes focused on another cloud.
He saw her image again. It made him focus on another cloud, again it turned into the pegasus. Again and again; every time he focused on another cloud it would turn into the mare. Eventually he gave up and slithered down the tree like a snake. Once his feet were on the ground he started to walk away from the tree. Keeping his eyes aimed at the ground. Many memories started to rush through his mind. Ones from so long ago; from a time when he was completely alone. Simply because he was who he was.
(the past)
A young Discord sat sadly on the edge of a large cliff. His body was covered in many bruises and cuts. One of his eyes swollen and black. His ram horn dangled from his head like a broken tree limb. Tears fell from his eyes like rivers. This was something that he was used to; except it was the pain he would never get used too. He was so tired of being different. Tired of being abused and neglected by others. Tired of being a draconiques. Everywhere he would go he would hear screams of terror. Every time he got near the pony kingdom; they would call him a monster. While some screamed at him others would attack him. He would try to run away from his attackers; but in the end he would end up a bloody mess.
“I wish I had a friend.” He whimpered out.
Eventually he grew tired of crying and used his magic to heal himself. Then with another snap of his fingers he teleported himself; from the edge of a cliff to the inside of damp cave. He found the cave a couple weeks again. It was a decent cave, it kept him sheltered from natures elements, but he often wished he could live like the ponies. He wasn't abandoned by his parent's; they were killed in battle with a rival draconiques. He would've been killed as well if it wasn't for his parents sacrifice. He shook his head not wanting to remember what had happened to them. Instead he took all his frustration out on the cave wall. Using his claws he scratched various images into the wall. When his claws went numb he stopped drawing and walked further into the cave.
“I miss you,” He whispered to the silence of the cave. He reach the end of the cave; where a moss bed and blanket waited for him. He gently lay himself on the damp bed; before he pulled the blanket over his body. Neither of them were comfortable but it was better than lying on the hard ground, “I miss you, mom, dad.” He finished as another tear escaped from his eye. He did eventually fall asleep; but his dreams were just cruel reminders of what he could never have.
The morning sun slowly rose into the sky; its warm rays stretching far out across the country side. They eventually reached the cave Discord was staying and. It warming light woke him from his horrible nightmare again. He yawned as he rose from his bed. Stretching his entire body out; hearing the various bones cracking in his body. Allowing him to be a little more limber. Slowly, he made his way outside the cave. Allowing him to feel the warming light of the sun. Another yawn escaped his maw as he shook himself awake. With a heavy sigh he used his magic to teleport himself to one of the pony colonies. He found himself sitting in a tree overlooking one of the houses.
“Alright,” He said as he put his eagle claw and lion paw to his eyes. Allowing his vision to zoom in and out on the house, “Any minute now,” He said with slight anxiousness in his voice, “Any minute.” When he saw the door open he quickly used his magic to camouflage himself.
From the house two earth ponies walked out. One was a ocean blue mare with a matching mane and tail. The other was a lemon yellow stallion with and orange mane and tale. Behind them was an elder earth stallion; who had similar colors to that of the mare. Both the mare and stallion waved goodbye to the stallion; who just stood happily at the doorway. His eyes looking aimlessly towards the sky. When the two were out of sight and the elder had gone back in, Discord, had made his move. Slowly he climbed down from the tree; double-checking to make sure nopony was around. He moved as fast as he could towards the back of the house. Where a stack of firewood and ax waited. He looked over his shoulder once more; then he grabbed the ax and a piece of firewood.
He loved doing these random kind acts for the many ponies of the village. It gave him hope that one day somepony would see him as a kind creature. Not a monster from the surrounding forest. But, unfortunately his acts were not getting the attention he wanted. No, sometimes mares would scream he was destroying their flower beds. When really he was weeding and watering them. Sometimes, stallions would attack him; saying he was destroying their homes. When he was really helping repair any damages or making it more durable. Every time he would do something nice; he was rewarded with pain and hatefulness.
“So, its you who's been helping us.” A aged voice spoke from behind him.
Discord gave a shout of fear as he quickly turned himself around. Dropping the ax and stumbling backwards over the stump he was using. He gasped for air as he slowly backed himself away from the stallion. Who was slowly walking towards him.
“Please,” Discord begged in a voice full of fear, “Don't hurt me.” He finished.
“Why would I hurt you?” The elder asked in confusion.
Discord slowly lifted his head, “Aren't you afra-?”
“Please,” The elder interrupted as he lifted one of his forehooves up, “Come closer. I'm blind.”
Discord was shocked by what he had just heard. The stallion was blind; which meant that the stallion could not see him. It meant that he could not see what he was. Slowly he walked closer and closer to the stallion. Eventually he was close enough for the stallion to touch him. He flinched out of instinct when the old stallions hoof touched him.
“No, no, please,” He begged as he waved his hoof back towards him, “Don't be afraid.” He finished.
But, Discord was afraid. He was afraid of what the stallion would do when he felt what he was. Afraid of what the stallion may do to him. Afraid of being beaten for just who he was. With a deep breath he walked close to the stallion. When the old stallions hoof touched him once again; his body stiffened, and his heart rate increased. The stallion gently rubbed his hoof up and down his side. Making him shudder a little in fear.
“Ah, you're a draconiques.” The stallion said in a voice void of emotion.
Discord, was now on the verge of full blown panic attack. No, a heart attack. The old stallion knew exactly what he was. He knew that he was a draconiques. Which meant that he was about to be beaten once again. But, this time he might not be walking away. He began to sweat heavily. His breathing increasing with each passing second. His hear beating so hard; he swore it was about to leap from his chest.
The stallion then released a gentle chuckle, “Thank you.” The stallion thanked him.
“Wh-What?” Discord asked as he looked up towards the stallion. Confused and taken aback by the kind words.
“Thank you,” The stallion thanked him again with a gentle smile, “Thank you for helping me and my family.” He finished completely unaware of the tears the young draconiques was crying.
The stallion invited the young draconequi into his lovely home. Once inside he sat him down at the table. Before pour him and himself a cup of warm tea. At that point they began to speak to one another. Almost as if they had known each other for a very long time. The stallion told Discord of his long and eventful life. How he was part of the battle of the diamond fields. How he met his departed beloved. When his first and only daughter was born. The sad part that brought Discord to tears was of his beloveds death. How he lay next to her as she entered the next life.
Discord was shedding a few more tears now. But, eventually he did regain his composure and began to tell his tale. Discord was very young so his story was not long. But, it was filled with much sadness and anger. How his parents were killed by a rival. How he was ousted and alienated by the ponies. How he was beaten without mercy; all because he was what he was. After he reached the end of his story; the stallion reached forward and gently grasped his talon hand. Trying to give comfort to the young draconiques.
“Thank you,” Discord cried before he disappeared and reappeared next to the stallion. Allowing him to hug the stallion.
The stallion returned his hug with a caring hug of his own. Allowing the young draconiques to cry into his side. Unfortunately all good things had to come to an end. But, this end was a very unhappy end. For the door had opened and his daughter and son-in-law walked in. His daughter screamed in horror and eventually fainted. While her husband proceeded to beat the life out of Discord. The elder begged and begged for him to stop. While Discords cries of mercy echoed through the cabin.
(The present.)
A single tear escaped from Discords eye and fell into the fountains pool. Sending a small ripple effect along the waters surface. He was unaware that he had actually reached the center of Ponyville. He also never noticed the current time of day. The sun was just barely setting beyond the horizon; just as the calming moon began its slow ascent into the sky. He sat himself down on the ring of the fountain; brought his lion paw up to eyes and wiped them free of his tears. But, that was his very first and last true friend of that time. But, that day was also when he embraced the true power of his magic. The day he became the lord of chaos. The day he truly became the monster everypony saw him as.
Discord jumped when he felt a gentle touch on his talon. Looking to his left; he saw the one who reminded him of the gentle soul he once was. The one who reformed him and showed him the way. Beside him sat Fluttershy who stared at him with worry.
“Fluttershy?” Discord asked.
“Discord, why are you crying?” She asked him.
