Chapters Lyra and Bon Bon: The Emptiness
Bon-Bon sat at her candy stand with the biggest of smiles, she loved her job. Serving the fillies and colts of Ponyville treats was great. Plus, they were all homemade, so they had that extra touch of love added to them. Bon-Bon waited for her wife to get their, they had a date planned for 4:30, and it was 4:28 as she waited. Bon-Bon then spotted Lyra waking through town, saying hello to various ponies as she went. Bon-Bon was all smiles as Lyra approached her booth, and Lyra returned those smiles right back.
“Hey beautiful, you ready to go?”, Lyra asked.
“Yep, just let me close up”, Bon-Bon replied.
Bon-Bon cleaned the place up, and put her sign up. As she was finishing up, she get a tap on her foreleg. She looked down to find a filly of about 12, with an orange coat and a magenta mane, and a pair of wings. Bon-Bon knew her, she was Scootaloo, a frequent customer of her stand. She always came with her two friends, but they were no where to be found.
“Um, Mrs. Bon Bon?”, she asked.
“Oh, hello Scootaloo. I’m sorry, but I just closed up shop, sorry”, Bon-Bon said.
“I’m not here for candy, I just wanted to tell you to have fun with on your date”, the filly said with a smile.
“H-How did you know that?”, Bon-Bon said with a blush.
“Because you looked excited, and your wife is here, so I put two and two together”, she said.
Bon-Bon chuckled and patted Scootaloo’s back,
“You sure are smart, Scootaloo”, she said with a smile.
“Thanks! Anyway, I should leave you two alone, have fun on your date!”, Scootaloo said before running off.
That was whole encounter gave Bon-Bon a massive smile, but how could it not? That was severely adorable.
“What’s got you all smiley?”, Lyra said as her marefriend walked up.
“Nothing, just that a filly told me to have fun”, she said.
“Who?”, Lyra asked.
“Scootaloo”, she answered as they walked towards the local cafe.
“Isn’t she the one who jumped her scooter off of a roof?”, Lyra asked.
“Yep, that’s definitely her. She’s a sweetheart. She always comes to my stand, too”, Bon-Bon smiled.
Lyra and Bon-Bon took off to the local cafe, and arrived within minutes. They took a seat at a table, and looked over their menus. The waiter came up and took their orders and went off to find the chef.
“How was your day, Bonnie?”, Lyra asked her wife.
“It was good, tiring, but good. But all those smiles really put the pep in my step, that’s for sure”, Bon-Bon said chuckling.
Lyra laughed along and they began to talk more. Both of them loved the dates, each one made them happier each time. Lyra excused herself to the bathroom, leaving Bon-Bon to herself. She thought back to Scootaloo’s little visit, and that put a smile on her face. She loved how happy foals made her. She then sighed, knowing Lyra would never agree, she just knew it.
“Hey, you ok?”, Lyra said, coming back to the table.
“Yeah..”, Bon-Bon said.
“Are you sure?”, Lyra asked further.
“Yes, Lyra, I’m fine”, Bon-Bon responded with a huff.
“Ok”, Lyra said sadly.
Bon-Bon felt bad now, she hadn’t intended to make Lyra sad. She held Lyra’s hoof from across the table, and apologized.
“I’m sorry, it’s just that I have something on my mind”, Bonnie said.
“Well, what is it? Maybe I could help you out”, Lyra said.
Bon-Bon tensed up, she hadn’t asked Lyra abut this kind of thing yet.
“Well...I-I was wondering...infinite maybe we could adopt a foal?”, Bon-Bon said, closing her eyes, preparing for Lyra’s decline.
“Really, that’s it?”, Lyra said.
“What do you mean, that’s it?”, Bon-Bon asked a little angry.
“Bonnie, I would love to raise a family with you. If anypony could do it with me, it would definitely be you”, Lyra said with a smile.
Bon-Bon nearly fainted, she hadn’t expected Lyra to say yes.
“R-Really? You mean it?”, Bon-Bon said, a smile forming very rapidly across her face.
“Yes, Honey-Bon, I mean it. Now let’s enjoy our crescents”, she said with a laugh.

*FIVE DAYS LATER*
Bon-Bon and Lyra walked into Ponyville Orphanage, and made their way to the front desk.
“Hiya! I’m Happy Heart, how may I help you”, the front desk worker asked.
“Hi, we would like to adopt a foal. We want to start a happy family”, Lyra said.
“That’s wonderful, come with me and we’ll get started”, Happy Heart said, leading them towards a room.
Started to sign papers and legal documents, as was the usual way. Bon-Bon and Lyra finished, and followed Happy Heart to the viewing room, a room with a window that looked into the play room. They saw many adorable colts and fillies, playing their hearts away. Then Bon-Bon noticed a familiar face in the crowd, who was sitting alone.
“Scootaloo?”, Bon-Bon said out loud.
Happy Heart looked over and smiled.
“Yes, that’s Scootaloo, how do you know her?”, she asked.
“She comes to my stand for candy all the time, she’s the sweetest little filly you could ever meet”, Bon-Bon.
“Well, in that case, why don’t you adopt her? She’s been here for her whole life, she needs a good family. And by the looks of it, your the perfect ones to do so. Of course, it’s your choice in the end,” Happy Heart said.
Bon-Bon smiled at the thought, she wanted it to happen, but she wasn’t sure if that was what Lyra wanted.
“I would be more than happy, but what about you Lyra?”, Bon-Bon asked her wife.
Lyra just smiled and nodded. Bon-Bon wrapped her hooves around her wife. She was now crying, her family was almost here.
“Alright, I’ll go get Scootaloo, you too go to the room we were in earlier”, Happy Heart said.
They nodded and went back to the room. Bon-Bon was a bit worried, what if Scootaloo didn’t want to be their daughter.
Happy Heart came back in with Scootaloo about five minutes later. When Scootaloo came in, her face instantly lit up. The look she gave was priceless.
“Mrs. Bon-Bon? Your adopting me?”, she asked, face full of happiness.
“Don’t forget about Lyra, but yes, we’re adopting
you. We want to give you the happiest life possible, Scootaloo. What do you say, do wanna join the Heartstrings Family?”, Bon-Bon asked with a smile.
Scootaloo flew into their forelegs, and into a hug.
“Yes! Oh Celestia, thank you so much!”, She said with tears of joy streaming down her face.
Bonnie and Lyra stared at their new daughter, and the world faded away. They had a family, and that was all they’d could both ever ask for.
——————————————————————
Welp, this is our house, Scootaloo. Make yourself at home”, Lyra said.
Scootaloo nodded and put her belongings on the ground. She went over to them and gave them another hug.
“Thank you, so much. I promise I’ll be the best daughter ever!”, she said to her new mothers.
“We know you will, Scootaloo”, Bon-Bon said.
“Yep, that’s for certain”, Lyra.
Scootaloo smiled. She finally had a family.
Lyra and Bon Bon: The Emptiness
The next few weeks were shakey for the new family trio of Bon-Bon, Lyra, and Scootaloo. The nightmares were becoming nightly, much to the worry of Scootaloo’s mothers. They tried to get Scootaloo to talk about the dreams, but the filly wouldn’t budge. School was also tricky, not because of her knowledge, but of her often tired state of mind. Ms. Cheerliee had asked about it, but Lyra and Bonnie had no explanation as to the cause of their daughters drowsy behavior.
“What are we going to do, Lyra? She hasn’t slept well in weeks, how she’s awake right now is a downright mystery!”, Bon-Bon said.
Lyra pondered and put her hoof to her chin, but she couldn’t give a solution to the current problem.
“Honestly honey, I don’t know, but by the look of her face when she wakes up, they seem to be very terrifying.”, Lyra explained.
“I have an idea!”, Bonnie suddenly said.
“What is it, Bonnie?”, Lyra excitedly asked.
“Why don’t you go talk to her? You’re the one who calms her down most of the time, so maybe you can get her to finally explain her nightmares.”, Bon-Bon said.
Lyra was hesitating towards a response. She loved Scootaloo, that was very true, but she wasn’t good at talking to ponies one on one, with the exception of Bon-Bon. But for the sake of her daughter, Lyra was ready to try it out.
“I’ll do it. I love Scootaloo, and I’m willing to risk my own personal fears to help her conquer her own demons.”, Lyra said with complete determination.
Bon-Bon rolled her eyes at her goofy behavior and trotted off. Lyra walked down the hall and towards Scootaloo’s room. Her daughters room was the last door on the left, which was previously a guest bedroom. She looked in the door way and saw her daughter reading a Daring Do book. She was reading it very closely, almost as if she was studying it.
“Hey, Scoots?”, Lyra said making her presence known.
“Yeah?”, Scootaloo said, looking up from her book.
“Can we talk about something?”, Lyra said, sitting on the bed.
“Did I do something wrong?”, Scootaloo said, a worrying look growing across her face.
“Not at all, it’s just that Bon-Bon and I are worried about your nightmares. We want to know what you see when you have them, so maybe we can help you.”, Lyra said.
Scootaloo began to shift around, obviously feeling uncomfortable. Her face then began to sprout tears, and she huddled in her forelegs. Lyra wrapped her hooves around her daughter and stroked her mane, much like Bon-Bon would do.
“If you tell me, you won’t feel like this anymore, we can help you. Please, Scootaloo....I just want to help.”, Lyra said with a concerned expression.
Scootaloo hated seeing her parents in pain, and though she didn’t want to say anything, the goodness in her heart made her tell this rather frightening tale.
——————————————————————
“Look what you did, runt!”, said a rough, grizzly voice.
Scootaloo looked up to see stallion, middle-aged and obviously drunk, berating her. She had simply wet the bed.
“I-I-I’m sorry, Headmaster.”, She said, hanging her head low.
This headmaster was named Hard Skull, and he oversaw the orphanage. He was originally a very nice soul, but then his wife died in an accident, turning him into a bitter shell of happiness. He had always had a particularly bad hatred for Scootaloo, who reminded him somewhat of his wife. Not in looks, but in personality. They both had a tomboy side to them.
“You’re to old for this, you little stain! Do you know what happens when you can’t grow up? Huh? DO YOU?!?!”, he yelled.
He slapped Scootaloo across the face, leaving a hoofprint on her face. Scootaloo cried out in pain, but was silenced by another slap. Hard Skull simply laughed at her pain, it was rich to him.
——————————————————————
By the end, Lyra was in tears herself. She hadn’t heard anything more emotional in her life. Scootaloo just curled up in her mothers embrace, not wanting him to come back and cause her more pain.
Lyra and Bon Bon: The Emptiness
After the debacle with the nightmares, Scootaloo began to feel a lot better with her dreams. Gone were the days of mean stallions and dark hallways, and In came Wonderbolts fantasies and worlds made of candy. Her education, however, was still a lowlight among the recent highlights. Scootaloo tried her hardest to follow along with Ms. Cherilee, but she just couldn’t keep up. It was almost like she had an academic ankle weight around her hoove at all times. The situation reached its climax when Cheerilee asked that Lyra and Bon-Bon come to the school house for a “Educational Discussion” about Scootaloo. It was a bit concerning, but they showed up nonetheless. They arrived at about 4:30, and saw Cheerilee waiting on the steps of the school.
“Ah, Lyra and Bon-Bon, how are you on this fine day?”, Cheerilee asked.
“Oh, we’re just fine Ms. Cheerilee. How about you?”, Bon-Bon replied.
“I’m fine, a bit stressed out, but fine nonetheless.”, the school teacher said.
The three of them then trotted into the now empty school building, which Lyra and Bonnie found VERY creepy when not inhabited by the many foals it housed. The trio of mares proceeded into the classroom and took their seats.
“Alright, I’ll be honest ladies. Scootaloo....is barely passing.”, Cheerliee said awkwardly.
Lyra and Bon-Bon looked shocked, that hadn’t expected this news to be THIS bad. They knew Scoots wasn’t exactly a wiz, but this was new to them.
“How bad is it?”, Lyra asked.
“She can barely hold a D, in fact her current average is a 65.23, which is barely passing.”, Cheerliee said.
“Alright, but why did you call us here? Was it just to tell us that fact or did you need something else?”, Bon-Bon asked.
Cherilee shifted a bit, but maintained her professional glance.
“Well, usually when a student is failing, it has something to do with what goes on at home. I understand Scootaloo has sleeping problem, is that correct?”, Cheerilee asked.
“She DID, but that hasn’t happened in weeks. Hold on, what exactly are you implying, Ms. Cheerliee?”, Lyra asked suspiciously.
“I’m simply asked if anything else has happened at home. What do THINK I’m implying, Mrs. Heartstrings?”, Cheerilee asked right back.
You could cut the tension in that room with a bucking knife, hay even that wouldn’t cut it. You’d need a military grade space laser to get through that shit.
“Hold on now, Lyra. Ms. Cheerliee was just asking a simple question, weren’t you Ms. Cheerilee?”, Bon-Bon asked, trying to ease the rising stress.
“Yes, that’s all I wanted to know. You don’t think I’d call you bad parents, would you?”, Cheerilee asked defensively.
“See, Lyra, she didn’t mean anything bad by that. It just a question that got taken out of context. I’m sorry for my wife’s behavior, Cheerilee.”, Bon-Bon said with a blush.
“It’s quite alright, I’ve seen much worse. You ever met Filthy Rich? He’ll threaten to sue you if Diamond Tiara doesn’t get her “Proper Education”, seriously, he needs to take a chill pill.”, Cheerilee said with a chuckle.
That got a laugh from the couple, with Lyra in particular enmiting a hardy chuckle. The former tension of the room vanished like D.B. Cooper as the three mares had a nice laugh.
“All jokes aside, we’ll make sure to help Scootaloo in her struggle. Thanks for the talk, Cheerilee.”, Bon-Bon said.
They began to trot back to their apartment with a lot on their minds, how were they going to help Scootaloo in school?
——————————————————————
“What do you mean I’m getting a tutor?”, Scootaloo asked with a face of disbelief.
“It means your getting a tutor, Scootaloo. Your not doing hot in school, so we both feel like you need help. I promise it’s not as bad as you think.”, Bon-Bon said to her daughter.
“Well, who’s my tutor?”, Scootaloo asked.
“HIYA EVERYPONY!!! I HEARD SOMEPONY NEEDED A TUTOR?”, said a voice that reeked of energy and happiness.
Scootaloo’s face contorted into a look of horror, and turned to see Pinkie Pie in a graduation uniform complete with cap.
“Y-Y-Your my tutor?”, Scootaloo said with a look of horror.
Pinkie bounced to the small filly and put on a serious face.
“Your dang right I am, Scootaloo. When ponies need a tutor, they have me. I’m the one they need, but the one they don’t deserve.”, Pinkie said, putting on a gravely voice.
Scootaloo looked at her mothers, who wore a similar expression of confusion.
“Ha, just kidding. Sooo, what are we going to learn about first, kiddo?”, Pinkie asked.
Scootaloo looked at her mothers again, and expected them to speak up.
“Uh, she needs help in math, science, and history. She’s doing fine in reading, however.”, Lyra choked out.
Pinkie nodded and smiled at Scootaloo.
“You ready to learn, my dude?”, excited entity said.
Scootaloo sheepishly nodded and Pinkie pulled out a walkie talkie.
“To The Pinkie Cave!”, she yelled out.
In an instant, Scootaloo and Pinkie disappeared into a black hole in the ground. After they entered, the hole closed, leaving the two remaining mares speechless.
“What the hell was that?”, Lyra asked.
“Shit if I know.”, Bon-Bon responded.
——————————————————————-
“Welcome to the Pinkie Cave, Scootaloo!”, Pinkie said while showing her cave off to the filly.
Scootaloo was shocked, she had never seen something so....pink. There were pink balloons, pink couches, and even a computer.
“This is where I plan ALL my parties and events similar to that. It has all the supplies and materials I need to plan parties. Plus, it has a built in sound system and mini fridge.”, Pinkie said.
Pinkie reached in the fridge and pulled out two sodas, which both read “Dr. Pinkie” on the side.
“You make your own soda?”, Scootaloo asked.
“Yuppers! It’s scrum-diddly-delicious!”, Pinkie replies before chugging the fizzy beverage.
“Don’t you think we should get on to the tutoring?”, Scootaloo asked with a confused gaze.
“Oh right! I forgot! Heh, I’m such a silly filly! Anyway, let’s get on to it!”, Pinkie said, pulling out a plethora of books, pencils, and one rubber chicken.
——————————————————————
It had been a week since Scootaloo had started to go to Pinkie Pie for tutoring, and boy golly did it show. Scootaloo was getting some of the highest grades on her class, much to the delight of her parents, teacher, and party pony tutor. At one point, a professor called the Heartstrings house and offered Scootaloo some kind of scholarship, but the family declined. Pinkie was beyond happy that her little filly student had improved so much, that she threw a party (of course ) and invited her entire class. There were cakes, cookies, and even the debut of “Dr. Pinkie”, which made all the fillies jump around like the poofy haired wonder. The drink was so good, that Pinkie later sold it out of Sugarcube Corner, and made a lot of money.
Lyra and Bon Bon: The Emptiness
If happy wasn’t a word to describe Scootaloo’s mood, than overjoyed would fit right in its place. The fact that she had a family was honestly mind-blowing, and also the fact that it was Bon-Bon was extra awesome. Bon-Bon was so nice to her that she could’ve written a 1,000 page book on her, and still not be satisfied with it. Lyra was also cool, but Scootaloo had never met her before the day she came home, so there was that.
“Hopefully I don’t screw this up, this is too good to lose.”, Scootaloo said before going to bed.
She fell fast asleep, thinking of future happiness with her new family.
——————————————————————
“NO!”, Scootaloo cried as she ran down a long corridor.
“Come back here you little runt!”, a rough voice said from behind her.
Scootaloo didn’t even look back as she sprinted harder, trying to get away from the enemy. She soon came to a wall and panicked, and then she heard violent hoofsteps vastly approaching.
“You can’t run now, you little mistake.”, the gravely voice said.
Scootaloo looked up and saw two red eyes, ones that held a lot of anger. A hoof raised up and she prepared for the pain. She felt the wind swoosh down and the touch, but no pain came.
—————————————————————-
“Scootaloo! Honey please wake up!”, Bon-Bon said, embracing her daughter.
Scootaloo’s eyes opened and saw Bon-Bon and Lyra holding on to her. Tears came to her eyes as she embraced Bon-Bon.
“Please, d-don’t let him get me! Please!”, she said with a shakey voice.
“Shh, it’s alright Scootaloo, we’re here. Everything is alright.”, Bon-Bon said, stroking Scootaloo’s mane.
Lyra only watched her wife, not wanting to approach and make it worse. The last thing she needed was for her new daughter to not like her.
“Lyra, get some water. She needs it right now.”, Bon-Bon asked her wife.
Lyra nodded and trotted into the kitchen and filled up a small glass.
“What could’ve caused that kind of nightmare?”, Lyra said to herself.
——————————————————————
When morning arrived, Scootaloo was still awake from the nightmare. Though it was only an hour ago, she was still very shaken up.
“Scootaloo? Are you awake?”, Bon-Bon said from the doorway.
Scootaloo nodded and sat up in bed. Bon-Bon walked over and sat on the bed, wrapping a foreleg around the filly.
“Scootaloo, I want you to know that we are going to protect you no matter what, even if we can’t see it.”, Bon-Bon said to her daughter.
“Thanks...”, Scootaloo said back.
As Bon-Bon trotted away, Scootaloo spoke again.
“Bon-Bon?”, Scootaloo said.
“Yes, Scootaloo?”, Bon-Bon said, peering through the doorway.
“What exactly do I call you and Lyra?”, she asked.
“Whatever you want, sweetie. It doesn’t matter to us.”, Bon-Bon said back to her.
“Oh, ok.”, Scootaloo said back.
Bon-Bon walked up and was going to leave, but Scootaloo said something again.
“One more thing.”, Scootaloo said.
“Yes dear?”, Bon-Bon said back.
“I love you, Mom.”, Scootaloo said.
Bon-Bon’s eyes began to water as she looked at her daughter, the joy filling her heart.
“I love you too, Scootaloo”, said Bon-Bon.
Lyra and Bon Bon: The Emptiness
The End.....OR IS IT?!?!?
It had been a year since Bon-Bon and Lyra Heartstrings had taken in Scootlaoo, and what a year they had. There were twists, turns, and loop-de-loops. Yet one fact always remained the same.
Scootlaoo loved her mothers. She loved Bon-Bon’s gentle, yet firm touch. She loved Lyra’s strong, sensible attitude. It was the perfect blend, and the filly couldn’t have been happier.
The mothers also enjoyed their little orange bundle of joy. She was energetic, charismatic, and even a bit sensitive when the time called for.
She helped Bon-Bon at her candy stand, and she quickly learned harpsichord from Lyra. She was such a natural, in fact, that for Hearths Warming Lyra got her a starter harpsichord.
Yes, all was truly right in the Heartstrings household. Yep, nothing could ever break the balance of-
BOOM
This noise shook up the foundation of the house violently. It even interrupted Bonnie and Lyra’s....”Makeout Session”. Lyra got out of bed and check for the noise. She trotted into the living room and made a shocking discovery.
Scootaloo was covered in grease, oil, and tire polish. Beside her was her scooter, and it was beaten up pretty badly.
Lyra gasped and checked Scootaloo, making sure that she wasn’t hurt.
“What’s going on, honey bun?”, Bonnie called from upstairs.
“Nothing, baby cakes. Nothing at all”, Lyra said while winking at Scootlaoo.
Scootlaoo chuckled and hugged her mother. She may have been covered in oil, but Celestia be damned if Lyra wasn’t going to accept a hug from her daughter.
“Come on, Scoots, let’s get you a bath running”, Lyra said.
“Ok!”, Scootaloo happily said.
When Scootlaoo trotted upstairs, she passed a very shocked Bonnie.
“Should I even ask?”, Bon-Bon asked.
“Nope, not a word honey”, Lyra smiled.
The couple laughed and went to the bathroom.
Their daughter was sure a handful. But that never mattered.
