Tying The Knot
Derpy Needs An Aspirin
Previous ChapterNext ChapterDerpy thought hard as she hung up her cap. The locker room at Ponyville Post Office was quiet, which provided the silence necessary for thinking. She had a small headache forming as she exited the room.
Her thoughts raced as she headed into the main corridor. Her talk with Rarity had been on her mind since she awoke early that morning, and progressed from calm to chaotic as her day progressed.
She wasn’t stressed, per-say; She just had a lot on her mind. It was like her emotions were fighting in her brain.
Happiness collided with fear as she approached the Carousel Boutique. Derpy took one long, deep breath before she entered the store. The Boutique seemed calm, almost as if nopony had been in the shop at all.
“Just a minute~!”, a distant Rarity called from the back.
Derpy scuffed her hoof as she waited for the fashionista. She didn’t know how this was going to turn out, in fact the uncertainty was almost unbearable. All of these thoughts were adding up in her already cluttered mind.
Rarity entered the main room and immediately noticed that Derpy was lost in her thoughts. She trotted over and tried to greet the mare.
“Hello Derpy”, she cheerfully said.
It took Derpy a good five seconds to notice her, and when she did she jumped a bit. Derpy blushed heavily and put her hoof behind her head.
“H-Hi Rarity; Sorry I kinda blanked out there”, Derpy bashfully said.
“Need not, darling. I can tell that you were thinking, about what I can probably guess. Don’t worry, I’m here to sort that out”, Rarity said supportively.
“Thanks, Rarity; I don’t know what I’d do with you. Anyway, can we get started?”, Derpy asked.
Oh, but of course! Just follow me, dear”, Rarity said as she lead the way upstairs.
Derpy followed Rarity upstairs and into her bedroom, which was cluttered with white and gold fabric. Derpy chose not to address it for the time being, seeing as how she had her own worries to settle.
“I hope you don’t mind the mess. I was, uh, up a bit late”, Rarity sheepishly grinned.
“It’s fine, Rarity”, Derpy said back.
Rarity nodded and trotted over to a pair of chairs sat by her window. She motioned for Derpy to sit, and poured them both some herbal tea.
“One lump or two?”, Rarity asked.
“Oh, uh, I’ll just have one”, Derpy said back.
Rarity finished and nudged the tea over to Derpy, who gladly accepted it and took a sip.
“Alright, let’s get started. Derpy, I want you to know that I’m here for every question you may have. Don’t be afraid, just breath”, Rarity said.
“O-Ok, I do have some ideas and questions”, Derpy said timidly.
“Ok, let’s start with some ideas. What’s the one that you think would be best?”, Rarity asked.
Derpy thought hard, this wasn’t going to be easy. She had so many ideas, yet they all crashed and burned within her head. There wasn’t a single idea that she found appealing.
“Honestly, Rarity, I don’t have a good idea. Every idea I’ve had has been both but false hope. I just want to give Twilght a perfect wedding, no matter what it takes”, Derpy said sadly.
Rarity thought for a moment, looking out the window and think hard.
“All Derpy wants is to make Twilght happy”, Rarity thought as she turned back to Derpy.
Suddenly, I light bulb went off in Rarity’s head. She figured it out! Derpy was only thinking about Twilight, yet she had forgotten to think about HERSELF.
“Darling, let me ask you something. What do YOU want?”, Rarity asked.
“Rarity, it doesn’t matter what I wa~!”, Derpy was cut off by Rarity’s hoof.
“Yes. It. Does. Darling, this is your wedding too. This isn’t only Twilight’s special day, it’s also YOURS. So tell me, what do you want?”, Rarity said seriously.
Derpy blushed a bit and shifted in her chair. It was clear that she hadn’t thought of her side of the equation.
“Uh....W-Well, I like muffins”, Derpy sheepishly smiled.
Rarity gave her a look that a parent might give to a lying foal.
“Fine, I’ll tell you. I’ve always wanted a wedding to be both regal and rural at the same time. A fancy look, yet simple ideas is what I mean. Nothing too special, but nothing to plain”, Derpy said.
Rarity nodded and though hard. She knew what Derpy meant, but she felt like the gray mare deserved more. Derpy was very hardworking, and she was very loyal to Twilght and the others.
“Darling, I like the concept. It’s something that could be easily done and affordable. There’s only one problem, though, dear”, Rarity admitted.
“Oh, what do you mean?”, Derpy asked curiously.
“Darling, you deserve much more than a simple wedding. You’ve poured your heart and soul into your work and relationships, more so than anypony else has. It would be criminal to give you and Twilight something so traditional, seeing as how you’ve both improved each other’s lives”, Rarity said.
Derpy could only look on as Rarity spoke, not even knowing how to respond after she finished.
She really didn’t consider herself a “hard worker”, she just wanted to provide enough for her filly.
“Rarity, thank you for your kind words. I just don’t want to cause any problems or waste bits on stuff we don’t need”, Derpy admitted.
“Darling, you don’t need to worry about the money. Let’s just say I have a “private investor” who is going to fund this. I want to give you everything you could’ve ever dreamed of, and the same goes for Twilight. You both deserve a beautiful ceremony, please just let me give to you”, Rarity asked pleadingly.
Derpy couldn’t say no to that, in fact nopony could! Rarity was being so generous right now that even a cranky donkey would accept.
Derpy reached over and gave Rarity a quick hug and nuzzle.
“Thank you so much, Rarity. I don’t know what we’d all do without you”, Derpy said sweetly.
“Don’t thank me, dear. I just want to do what’s right, and what’s more right than giving a wonderful couple a wedding that nopony will ever forget?”, Rarity laughed a bit.
Derpy chuckled and went towards the door.
“Rarity, I gotta get home. Twilight and Dinky are waiting on me so we can play Parcheesi”, Derpy said.
“Very well, dear. Have a safe trip back, tata~!”, Rarity sang goodbye.
Derpy exited the building, leaving a very determined Rarity to think.
“Don’t worry Derpy, your wedding is going to blow your socks off”, Rarity said before she rushed to her room.
