Equestria was caught in a cataclysmic event that took a healthy chunk of the mainland and merged it with a new one, or more likely into a completely new world. Though for the longest time they were cut off from most of the new world until one day they were able to clear away the pass. Venturing forth, The Equines, having to be forced to not only adjust to a new world but as well adjust to one with barely any magic in existence.
