Spring Has Sprung
Chapter 2
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Fuck you, Copper!” shouted Glacier as he pushed himself up off the floor. “I've had enough of you using me as your personal punching bag. I missed my entire childhood because of you. What few friends I had could never come over to our house. I had to make up excuses to miss birthday parties so much that I no longer got invited to them. Hell, I couldn't even play outside because of the bruises that you gave…”
Glacier didn't get to finish after getting another left fist to his face, knocking him back down. “I didn't give you any bruises. You earned them for being such a shitty child. If you listened to me, I wouldn't have had to discipline you the way I did,” Copper shouted back as he kicked his son in the ribs. “Just because you're graduating soon doesn't make you a man. You'll never be a man because no woman would want to fuck a worthless piece of shit like you.”
A smile appeared on Glacier’s face as he rubbed his cheek. “You're right. Graduating from high school doesn't make me a man. Facing my fears and properly dealing with them is the first step,” said Glacier. “And now, after fourteen years of your drunken bullshit, I’m ready to overcome them.”
The next thing Copper Shine knew he was laying on the floor. Glacier had reached back and hit him straight in his left temple and now had him pinned to the floor. “I've got scars on my all over my body from where you threw hot pans at me,” Glacier told him as he punched his father in the face. “I've got shoulder problems.” Another punch. “I've got a permanent limp.” Another blow. “I have trouble remembering shit.” Another blow, this one to the bridge of the nose. “And it’s… all… because of… you!”
After four more hits to the face, Copper was unconscious with a bloody nose. Glacier opened his fists and looked at his hands that were shaking violently. As the adrenaline slowly wore off, he became overwhelmed with a cocktail of emotions and thoughts.
What have I done? he thought as he got up off of his father. I… I just beat my own father into unconsciousness. But it's okay, right? I mean, he abused me for fourteen years, so this one time is okay.
As he continued to rationalize his actions, a powerful, stray thought worked its way into Glacier’s head. “Shit! He can have me arrested for battery when he wakes up,” he said, panicking. “I gotta get out of here.”
He ran to his bedroom and began packing some clothes in a duffle bag. About halfway through his packing, he shot Soarin a text asking him to pick him up at the park down the street. He hurried to the front door and took one last look at the man that ruined his life before making his way to the park.
“You okay, G?” Soarin asked as Glacier got in the truck. “Your whole body is fucking shaking.”
“Y-yeah, I, um, just got into another fight with Copper again,” Glacier answered hesitantly.
“It must have been one hell of a fight. I've never picked you up…” Soarin trailed off momentarily after realizing that Glacier had tossed a bag in the back of the truck. “Dude, did you toss a duffel bag in the bed of the truck?”
Glacier nodded as he stared at the knuckles of his right hand. Two of them had blood on them; his father's blood. The sight of it started to make his stomach churn as what happened about twenty minutes earlier had finally set in.
“S-Soarin? Can you stop the truck a moment?” Glacier asked shakily.
“Sure. You're not looking too good, G,” Soarin said as he pulled the truck off to the side of the road. “Do you need to go to the hospital?”
Instead of answering, Glacier literally jumped out of the truck and emptied his stomach contents on the ground. After a minute or two of throwing up, Glacier sat down on the ground being careful to avoid his vomit. Soarin squatted down in front of him so they could talk eye to eye.
“G, what's going on? This isn't normal for you,” Soarin asked with concern. “You didn't kill your old man, did you?”
Glacier wiped his mouth and tried keeping the churning in his stomach still long enough to answer. “No, I didn't kill him but I… I beat him… senseless until…” Glacier paused while he gave in to the demands of his stomach and threw up again.
“Until what?”
Wiping his mouth once more, he finished, “I gave him a bloody nose. After that, something inside me snapped and I just kept punching him in the face until he was unconscious.”
Soarin blinked a few times, unsure of what to say. His friend had beat the shit out of his father after years of abuse. “I, uh, well, that's, um, interesting,” Soarin said awkwardly.
Glacier looked at his best friend with sadness in his eyes. “Soarin, what am I gonna do? I won't be able to graduate.”
“What do you mean?” Soarin asked. “Of course you'll graduate. You've got the best grades in school, only behind Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle.”
“Soarin, I'm gonna be in fucking jail for this,” Glacier fretted as they got back in the truck.
“Dude if you haven't gotten arrested for banging the principal, I highly doubt you'll be in a jail cell for this,” Soarin reassured.
“You really think so?”
Soarin laid his right hand on Glacier’s shoulder as they drove off and said, “As much as he's beaten you over the last decade, all you have to do is claim self-defense and you're home free.”
“You sure?”
“Positive.”
The next morning there was a sharp knock on the front door of Soarin’s apartment. A minute later, Glacier heard Soarin call for him. A wave of panic swept through him as his fear from the day before took hold. He slowly made his way to the door, trying to think of what he was going to tell whoever wanted to talk to him.
“Mr. Spring?” the policeman asked as Glacier stepped outside.
“Y-yes?”
“My name is Sgt. Windstorm. I have a warrant for your arrest on charges of assault and battery,” the policeman said as he produced the document which was attached to a clipboard.
“I… I knew it. I knew he… was going to have me arrested,” Glacier said as he began to get sick to his stomach.
Sgt. Windstorm reached behind his back and retrieved a pair of handcuffs, slipped the clipboard under his armpit and shackled Glacier’s wrists in the metal rings while reading him his legal rights. Glacier stared at the sidewalk as he limped toward the waiting police car, tears beginning to fill his eyes.
Windstorm tried making small talk with Glacier as they returned to the police station but all he got in return was silence. The young man in the backseat sat there with tears rolling down his cheeks and no way to wipe them off because his hands were behind his back.
By the time they arrived at the police station, the collar of his shirt had become damp from the tears that run down his face and neck. “You okay, son?” Windstorm asked as he helped his prisoner out of the car.
“No. I can't believe how crooked you… bastards are,” Glacier said as anger slowly began to replace the panic and fear he felt earlier. “I've been getting abused my entire life by my asshole father. I've tried having him arrested for it but you all said I needed evidence. Now I finally stick up for myself and I'm the one who gets arrested.”
Windstorm paused to look at Glacier and respond to his rant. “Listen, Mr. Spring. Your father didn't call us. Someone else did. When we arrived at the scene, your father was still unconscious and bleeding from the nose and mouth.”
Glacier pursed his lips, took a deep breath and lit into Windstorm with another verbal tirade. “So you assholes will believe some drunk motherfucker when he wakes up in the emergency room. You looked at me square in the face at Soarin’s house and didn't ask one question about where I got my black eye, the bruise on my left cheek and swollen lip. What in the literal fuck?”
“Mr. Spring, I am going to remind you that everything you say can be used against you.”
“Use it against me, I don't give a fuck. I've gotten permanent injuries from that drunken bastards that all my neighbors turned a blind eye to and the times they did care, the police took his word that I got hurt while I was playing.” He was glad that he was handcuffed at the moment, for Sgt. Windstorm’s sake, because if he wasn't, he would've easily attacked the policeman. “And I remember you were one of the crooked bastards that did nothing
Windstorm took note of the daggers in Glacier’s eyes. There was something about them that actually struck a minute amount of fear in the seasoned officer. He does have a point. I did visit that house once a few years ago and just took his word. I probably wouldn't be booking this young man right now if I had called Child Protection Services.
“So are you going to book me and allow me a phone call or make me wait until I've served my sentence?” Glacier said disrespectfully. “Its bad enough you, the rest of the police and my so-called father ruined my life and now I'm stuck here for sticking up for myself. Let's just get this over with.”
“I technically can't allow you to make a phone call until after the judge sets your bail but I'm going to make an exception due to your, ahem, situation,” Windstorm told him.
Glacier, still angry, breathed a small sigh of relief. I hope she's available.
“Yo, Soarin! What's going on?!” Rainbow Dash shouted as she pounded on his front door. “Soarin! Answer the damn door!”
Soarin finally answered the door, noticeably shaken from the events earlier in the day. “We need to talk, Dash,” he said frantically.
“Okay… but I didn't realize we were dating,” she quipped.
“Not that kind of talk, smart-ass. Glacier got hauled off the fuzz a couple hours ago,” he said as he dragged her inside the house.
“Wait! Glacier? That shy kid you chill with? What for?”
It was then that Soarin realized that he’d have to break the promise that he made to his longtime friend. “Glacier beat the shit out of his dad yesterday. He stayed with me last night and this morning they arrested him.”
“Uh, so why did he do that?”
Here goes nothing. Sorry, G. Soarin thought before spending the next ten minutes telling Rainbow Dash about Glacier’s plight.
“So lemme get this straight. Is his dad a child-abusing drunk?”
Soarin nodded his head.
“Why the hell isn't that douchebag behind bars?”
“Glacier told me that they would never do anything unless he could provide actual evidence; not just scrapes and bruises,” Soarin replied. “Glacier almost had gotten the evidence yesterday before his father found the hidden camera.”
“And that’s what started their boxing match yesterday?”
“I think so.”
“So what do you wanna do?”
Soarin thought a moment. “Let’s get ahold of Principal Celestia. She’s the only person besides me that he trusts.”
Rainbow Dash tilted her head in confusion. “Why is she the only other person beside you that he trusts?”
“Swear you won't tell anyone this.”
“Sure. Okay.”
“He’s been fucking her at school in the locker room and in the pool.”
Rainbow stared at him with a blank look on her face. “Him… and Principal Celestia… in the pool…?” she said in disbelief. “You mean to tell me that he’s been jizzing in the water that I compete in?!”
“I don't know all the details, okay?” Soarin said as feelings of regret began to fill his mind. “All he told me was that he’s been banging her for about a month and a half and that those were the two places they were getting it on at.”
A sly smile formed on Rainbow’s face. “I guess I have to be more careful when I get myself off in the pool after practice from now on. I highly doubt I’d be any good as a pregnant swimmer.”
“Dash, you do know the chlorine… wait! You masturbate in the pool after practice?”
“Duh, doesn't everybody?”
“Not to my knowledge. I mean, I never have,” Soarin said.
“You should try it sometime. Especially right against one of the water jets. I get some of my best orgasms-”
“Alright, alright. I get it. Public masturbation in the school swimming pool is the shit but talking about it isn't helping Glacier,” Soarin interrupted.
“You started it.”
“Fine. Whatever. Let’s just get ahold of Principal Celestia. Okay?”
“Hello? Celestia’s phone, Luna speaking.”
“Vice-Principal Luna? This is Soarin. Is Celestia there?”
“She is actually indisposed at the moment. May I take a message?” Luna replied.
“It’s kind of important. You see, my friend, Glacier Spring, got arrested a couple hours ago. I was hoping Celestia could help him out.”
Luna thought for a moment. “Well, Celestia is currently in the delivery room right now but I'll see what I can do.”
“When did she go into labor?”
“It was shortly before sunrise. I don't think I've ever been roused from my slumber in that manner in my life,” Luna said.
Soarin whispered something to Rainbow Dash that Luna was unable to make out over the phone before returning to speak with her. “Do you know if Celestia will be able to do anything for him?”
“Regarding his current situation, no. But in a week or two she may be able to start fucking him in her office again,” Luna replied.
“How did you know?”
“Please… do you think Glacier is the first senior student that Celestia has gotten laid by? She's been doing it for years,” Luna told him. “Tell you what, I'll let her know what's going on and in the meantime, I’ll wait for Glacier’s phone call so I can post his bail.”
“That sounds good. Thanks, Vice-Principal Luna.”
