On this, one hundred and twenty-fifth wedding anniversary of Luna and Luna's, I was asked to put down my thoughts and memories for posterity. I guess I should start off with who I am first. My name is Lynn Winters, Prince of Equestria and the first human to be called that. With that out of the way we can get to the history lesson. I'm not going to go through history that everyone knows already so I'll start when I came into the picture.
A year after the portal opened and we signed the peace treaty with Equestria, a call went out for various experts in different fields. I was asked to be the agricultural expert because of my experience and knowledge in that field. After the various tests, briefings and other government bullshit, I was cleared to cross over to start my job. I also was informed that I would be under a Princess Luna, as she was over the domestic side of their government.
One upside to me working over there was that I didn't have to move from my home in Louisiana. The Princess responsible for the portal showed up one morning and opened another portal in my home town. That was unbelievably helpful since I didn't have to uproot my family and make my kids start all over in a new school.
The other was that I pretty much worked for Princess Luna exclusively. After I had met her for the first time, I found her to be a down to earth mare with a very healthy sense of humor. That was the first time someone had ever used a joy buzzer on me. About gave me a damn heart attack and the entire time Luna was giggling the whole time. Something else that was unexpected was she was as tall as me since I was 6' 3". My wife at the time was only 5' 4". So it was a nice surprise.
Anyways, over time our relationship went from boss and employee to friends. She ever made trips to Earth to visit my home and took a liking to my three kids. Soon enough ten years had passed and we had settled into a comfortable routine. That is until I came home early one day and found something that would change the lives of the kids and me.
Around three years before that time, Luna decided to assign a six guard rotation to me. I tried to talk her out of it, but she wouldn't hear of it.
"You are my closest friend Lynn. I shall not let anything happen to you or your family. All of you have become like family to me over the years and I protect my family."
When I asked Celestia to get her to remove the guards she pretty much said to me "Lynn you should know by know how my sister is. Once she makes a decision like that, it's almost impossible to get her to change her mind." So the scene I came home to early was my wife of twenty years getting plowed by the lone earth pony guard of my detail. Needless to say I was heartbroken. Turning around I left the house and when to find Rain Glider, the thestral commander of my guard detail. When I did find her she could tell something was wrong.
"Lynn? What's wrong? What has happened?"
"I just walked in on my wife and Popper having sex in my DAMN BED!" When she heard that her ears flattened to her head and her eyes started to show distress.
"I'm sorry Lynn. Give me a moment." All of my energy left me at that moment and I dropped into the chair in front of her desk. I zoned everything out and tried to reason why my wife would do this, but I just couldn't think of anything. I thought she was happy. We lived a comfortable life, had a nice home and the kids was happy too, so why was she doing this?
I didn't come back to reality till I felt someone touch me. Looking up a very familiar sight graced my eyes. Standing there was my friend and boss, the Princess of the Night, Luna. A look of concern crossed her beautiful face, but I could see anger showing in her blue eyes as well.
"Why would she do this to you Lynn?" Yep she's pissed I thought.
"I don't know Lu. I had thought she was happy and our marriage was stable, but now" I trailed off fighting my tears. Twenty year of my life was just thrown down the tubes.
"Lieutenant?"
"Yes, ma'am?"
"Go and retrieve my niece and nephews from their school and bring them back to the castle. While that is going on, have the other three guards start to move all of the guards gear back to the castle too, except Private Poppers. I will take Lynn back to the castle myself."
"At once my Princess." Have you ever been hugged by a being with wings? Well, I have and it's a wonderful experience or it normally is but this time. This time I broke down and couldn't stop myself. I have every right to break. I've spent half of my life with that woman and other than Luna and a few others, I didn't really have any family. After a few minutes I pulled myself together enough to look at Luna and still sniffling asked a question.
"What the he'll am I suppose to do Lu? That bitch has broke me and I'll be damned if I leave my kids with her."
"That's easy Lynn. You and the kids are coming to the castle and I don't care who or what anypony has to say. The witch has broken the heart of my closest friend and I will do whatever I can to help you and the kids." My spirits lifted some with her words and I smiled at my friend.
"Thank you, Luna. Its good to know that I have someone to help me when I need it."
"I will always help you Lynn" she answered me wrapping me in another hug and nuzzling the top of my head. "Give me a minute to write a nice 'Your fired letter' for Mr. Popper then we can go. Okay?"
"Whatever you want Lu." When she was done we left Rain's former office and stopped by the now empty barracks room to drop off the letter on Popper's bunk. Leaving the quickly cleared building, we met the other guards by the portal and regrouped.
"Is this everypony?"
"Yes, Princess. The Lieutenant has already crossed over with the young ones."
"Very well Sergeant. Cross over."
"Yes, ma'am." Saluting the guards crossed over with the last of their gear leaving me and Luna. Looking back at my home, I had a feeling of what was going to happen and I was good with it. Turning to Luna she smiled encouragingly and motioned towards the portal.
"Come on Lynn. From this day forward I promise it will be better." Nodding I entered the portal wondering if she could keep that promise.
