Size Up Starlight
Part 5: Starlight Saves Our Town?
Previous ChapterNext ChapterStarlight found herself standing on an old dusty pathway, with tiny dead little trees scattered around her, dwarfed by her gigantic size. Trixie was nowhere to be seen. As far as she could see around her in the darkness was fields of infertile, rocky plains that seemed to reach out into infinity around her. She had no idea where she was, so she began to take careful steps into the darkness. As her giant hooves crashed against the ground after each other, a thick mist began to settle on the flatlands around her.
"H-Hello?" Starlight called out, without moving her mouth. "Is anybody there?" She squinted her eyes as she trudged through the fog. She eventually noticed two lines of small, shanty houses facing each other, with an old wide pathway in between, only just big enough for her to fit both of her house-wide hooves between safely. She stopped in front of the familiar old village and bent down slowly to look at it more carefully. She then recognised the village.
It was her old village, or as it was named, "Our Town," a town that she once ran with a dangerously flawed ideology of equality. She cringed a bit at the memory, but she remained calm and rational. After all, enslaving the village happened a long time ago, and she had set everything right since then, and she was clearly not a threat to the village any-more. In fact, she soon found that she would end up being quite the opposite...
"Starlight, you have come to save us!" a tiny mare's voice exclaimed from below. Starlight's eyes darted to find the source of the sound. The windows of each house, which were all the same, were all closed and boarded up. Her focus then shifted to her left hoof, where she found a tiny pink-furred mare with dark-purple hair kneeling down and appearing to worship her.
Starlight was confused, recognising that it was Sugar Belle. "What do you mean?" Starlight asked "Are you all okay?"
"Oh, we need you to lead us, Starlight!" another weak voice came from afar, this time a white colt revealing himself from behind one of the houses. It was another inhabitant of the town, Double Diamond. He too kneeled towards Starlight's massive left hoof, sitting next to Sugar Belle. "Please, you must keep us safe!" He rested his head against Starlight's hoof, spreading his arms across to give her a tiny hug.
Things were getting very weird for Starlight. Weren't these ponies perfectly fine with living together without her guidance? Didn't they live BETTER without her? Starlight had always been uncomfortable with leading and asserting her power over ponies ever since she left the village, and she had slowly learnt to overcome this fear throughout the years, but this was too much. She was a giant pony now, who's size and magical power was unmatched by any other known equestrian entity, (well, maybe except for an Ursa Major) and now her old entire village was flocking to her hooves for protection and guidance. It was too much for her, so she took a careful step backwards. "Wh-What happened? Why do you all want me to lead you again? You know I'm a terrible leader. Why do you need me to keep you safe?"
The rest of the village ponies slowly exited their run-down homes, and formed a pastel-colored crowd at Starlight's front hooves, all staring up at her almost lifelessly. Altogether, they all began to chant in a creepy, monotone voice. "Only you... can stop her... from hurting us again..."
Starlight was visibly panicking now. She wanted to respond, but her train of thought was cut short as a loud deafening bang shook the ground, making the village ponies fall and some of the houses wooden supports crash into the dirty pathway. The mist surrounding the village seemed to get even more intense. A giant silhouette of a pony appeared to darken from beyond the mist behind the village, and with another loud CRUNCH, the big tree that stood at the end of the village got instantly squashed under a giant hoof of a different pony ahead of Starlight. Starlight could only see a wide grinning smile from beyond the shadowy mist. When Starlight realized that the fur colour of the giant pony was exactly like her own, she felt her face go pale and a shiver race down her spine.
As the figure grew closer, it became apparent that Starlight was staring at a giant clone of herself, but the other giant appeared more menacing, a mirror image of her older, dictatorship self. Even more horrifying was the fact that the giant towered over Starlight by twice her size, a whopping 100 feet or so.
The tiny ponies below scurried along like disturbed ants around Starlight's leg, frightened of the other giantess that was stomping onto their village. Starlight herself was considerably unnerved by the sight of her younger evil self approaching her. She gulped and attempted to be courageous. "I don't know who you are... or why you look exactly like me, but you need to leave these ponies alone!"
The other giant, who looked exactly like Starlight's past self, gave a menacingly wide grin as she looked down at Starlight. "We're not so different, you and I," it said, sounding exactly like Starlight's voice, but deeper and calmer, "We're both powerful, and we both just absolutely love to show it. So why don't you join me, Starlight Glimmer, and use your new... size... to finish what we originally started, hm?" Starlight's evil clone laughed a little, kicking one of the houses to smithereens effortlessly, scattering the little cabin's parts far out into the surrounding mist, making Starlight flinch before continuing. "We can build everything from the ground up... Make everything better than this mess... Make everypony..." She lowered her head down to Starlight's muzzle with an uncomfortably sly grin, "equally happier."
Starlight stared at the giant evil version of her with contempt. "This isn't who I am. I got rid of you long ago!"
The evil clone chuckled to herself, casually arranging her bangs in her purple hair while responding. "Oh, perhaps, but once you've become a giant goddess of a pony with indescribable raw power, you must admit, it's a little easy to get... tempted~" The clone approached Starlight, walking over the village as if it were nothing but grass. Starlight backed away from her towering evil self, shivering all over. Her village friends had now been clinging to her legs for safety, and suddenly began to call out to Starlight in unison, in a comforting but eerie way.
"We believe in you, Starlight Glimmer. We know you will keep us safe."
Starlight felt a rush of power surging through her body. It felt as if the supportive chanting from her friends was manifesting itself inside her.
"You will become a kind and generous goddess, Starlight Glimmer!"
Without being able to control it, she found herself quickly gaining height, much to her evil clone's surprise.
"What is this?!" the evil clone of herself exclaimed, "it's... it's not possible!"
Starlight was confused, and slightly alarmed. "I- I don't know!" she cried as she stepped backwards while growing taller, "I didn't even want to be a giant in the first place, and now I'm-" She found herself getting taller and bigger, causing her clone to stagger backwards in amazement and fear. The villagers were still hugging her hoof safely, chanting her on supportively.
"We love you, Starlight Glimmer!"
Starlight looked down at her smaller evil self as it appeared smaller and smaller as she grew, soon dwarfing her as her own head got surrounded by clouds that gently tickled her ears. Annoyed at the clone for attacking her town, Starlight swooped up her clone, who appeared as a tiny pink speck of dust, picking her up, and up, and up, poofing her past the clouds to look at her closely.
"You aren't who I am." Starlight said sternly. She looked at her tiny clone, barely visible, sitting on her elevated hoof. "And I'll never be you, ever, again."
The speck appeared to be shouting at her in retaliation, but she couldn't hear anything from it. Starlight shrugged, and gently placed it onto the ground. However, looking at the ground made her suddenly feel uneasy.
From this view, she could see almost all of Equestria. It was like looking at the cutie map, but it was real. She could only focus on Ponyville and the crystal empire before she felt extremely dizzy from sensory overload. Her legs gave way, and she lost her balance, tipping over like a massive tree before stumbling onto her side, destroying thousands of acres of land under her massive, continent-sized body.
