Author's Note
This will follow the mlp story line. I will use real world experiences to use in this story. My oc, Brass Clef, will have my personality Because of self insertion. Hope you enjoy.
Disaster
I woke up out side near the edge of a forest, but on a dirt path. I was confused for a moment until I shot up realizing where I am. I tried to stand up on my feet before I came crashing down.
“Ouch...” I groaned out. I landed face first on the dirt. It hurt... a lot.
I sat down how my body was comfortable sitting. Apparently I sit better like a dog now. I glanced at my... HOOVES! I don’t scream but I hyperventilate. I was never good with changes, so I need ways to cope. This isn’t one.
I calm down and take a look at myself. I had my favorite jacket on that said ‘BAND’ in big green letters. Under that it said ‘COMMETMENT TO EXCELLENCE’ in small silver greenish letters. It had som mock lights behind it, which was also green and white, with the rest being jet black.
I look at my self and saw not a pale fourteen year old, but an orange horse with...
No way.
This is impossible.
I’m not a horse. I’m a pony. My mouth curled into a smile as I saw my cutie mark. It was two clefs I knew all to well. One was an upside down treble clef and a bass clef connected to it making a heart. It looked great, but what do I call my self.

I got it! Brass Clef. I always loved the sound of brass instruments and I don’t need to subjugate one than the other on my butt? Flank? Whatever.
I walked away from the forest as it has stuff that could kill me in an instant. Plus, isn’t civilization away from the forest. If I want help to do, well, anything. I’ll need help.
I found a village I was all to familiar with. Ponyville, a quaint little town with mostly ponies. I hid my excitement to find the main six and shake their hooves, but something kept me back. A thought that could ruin my music career.
LGPE was tomorrow! I’m not there. Oh no, this is bad. If I’m not there than how can I get into a good college with musical arts. This could be worth getting a scholarship.
Opposed to my judgment, I bolted into town. I kept running until Newton’s first law hit me. I was frantic when I was running, so I didn’t see where I was going. I ran into a pony.
“Holy crap! Are you okay!” I asked. I was in a panic and I don’t have the best volume control.
“Yes I’m fine. Why were you running?” The now known female asked. It was stern and annoyed.
“I remembered something that I needed to go to, but it’s too late.” I folded my ears down as my sadness took over.
“Oh, well I guess introductions are in order.” The voice was familiar for some reason. I just now realized I didn’t get up. I scrambled to my... hooves and turned around. My jaw mentally dropped. “Hello I am Twilight Sparkle. Who are you?”
“B-B-Brass Clef.” My shyness hit me hard. I was never good at talking to people, even my own family. I felt my body move into a one with more ways to shrink into the dirt. In short, I’m anti social. She chuckles at me. “I-If you don’t mind, what’s today?”
“It’s May 29th, why?” I just looked sheepish.
”I’m not good at dates.” it was so quiet that not even a fly could hear it. She tilted her head which added to my embarrassment. “I’m not good at dates. You know like days in a week.” I repeated just loud enough for her to hear.
“Well, do you know what today is?” I shook my head. I don’t know at all. She sighed and informed me. “Today is the Summer Sun Celebration.” She grew a worried look. “The thousandth one.” I knew that this was not good. This was the first episode.
“I-Isn’t Nightmare Moon supposed to return.” I’m going to regret saying that aren’t I.
“Ponies say it’s an old pony’s tail. I guess most believe it like me. Why don’t you tell me how you know about her return as I check on the preparations.” I’m regretting it.
I told some half truths. Noticing the stars converging on the moon. I didn’t tell her that her world is a show. That would make me sound crazy. She thought it was fascinating even though it was the only clime I had.
After what felt like hours, we found our way to Sweet Apple Acres. The white fence looked like it was recently painted. The tall trees, from my view, looked like it was scraping the sky. The leaves spread out far enough to let pillars of light seep through. It reminds me of the woods behind my house. The woods I explored dozens of times.
My ears dropped as memories flashed through my mind. I saw Twilight glance back with the smallest flicker of worry crossed her eyes. That was new. She lowered her pace to match mine.
“So... how old are you?” She asked. I knew she wanted to get rid of the tension. I sighed heavily before replying. It was just loud enough so she could hear.
“Fourteen.” My birthday is up soon and my family won’t be here this time. Other people would be angry or mad or maybe overjoyed, but I just feel depressed.
“Really? Same here.” My ears lifted hearing that. “My birthday in in five months. How about you?”
“It’s in three days.” I felt the corners of my mouth lift. Someone, I first met, actually bothered to ask. She could be a friend. Haven’t had one of those in a while. “First birthday with out my family. I didn’t know where they are.” Not entirely true, but still a little.
“Well we’re here. Sweet Apple Acres.” Spike said. I didn’t care. My stomach rumbles as I forgot to eat in two days... again. I blushed out of embarrassment.
It was lively. It was quiet mostly until before Applejack bucked an apple tree and, with expertly placed buckets, gathered the apples. She trotted to us which I’m still trying to figure out how I did it. Instinct maybe. I don’t care.
“Let’s get this over with.” I nudged her a little so she would lighten up. She put on a smile, but I saw through the facade. “Good afternoon, I’m Twilight Sparkle and I—“ she was cut off by Applejack’s vigorous and tight grip.
“Howdy miss Twilight we at Sweet Apple Archers sure like making new friends.” She let go, but Twilight’s hoove kept shaking. I smiled at Applejack because of her kind words. Spike stop Twilight’s hoove with a giggle.
I soon felt all eyes on me. I tried to shrink into the ground. I introduced my self with a voice that could make Fluttershy proud. “I’m Brass Clef.” I glanced at Twilight for help. She quickly obliged at Applejack’s waiting look.
“He’s Brass clef.” Twilight introduced. I bowed to show respect. It was either that or hug Twilight for her help. What the heck. I hugged her anyways. “Why did you do that?” I could tell she was embarrassed. I let go and gave her a blank stare. She quickly got why I did that.
Hug favorite pony... check.
Next try Pinkie Pie’s cupcakes.
My stomach rumbled for the second time. I blushed as the two girls chuckle. “Looks like somepony’s hungry.” Applejack said.
“That’s what happens when you don’t eat for two day.” I retorted.
“How do you not eat for two days?” Twilight asked.
“Easy, you forget to. This isn’t the first time.” The two laugh.
“Well then why don’t you taste our food. I bet somepony will like it.” She glanced at me. I sat like a dog, crossed my hooves, and puffed out my cheeks. I looked away or not see her smug look. My small frown gave way to a small smile.
Applejack trotted away to a triangle and rang it. “Soups on everypony!” She yelled. I felt the ground tremble under the weight of thirty ponies.
We were sent to a table where we were supposed to be seated. We were seated, but my momentum was greater than Twilight’s apparently. My face slammed right into the table with a loud crash.
I could only yell one thing. “MOTHERFUCKER!!!” It was at the top of my lungs. My hooves closed in on my nose. I removed one to find it had blood on it. “Can some... pony get a first aid kit.” From what I heard, you have to keep a bloody nose up. “Sorry for the language. It only happens when I’m hurt... or frustrated.” I didn’t notice all eyes on me until that sentence. I tried to stink again with no luck.
One of her relatives came back with a first aid kit and proceeded to dress my wound. I gave a meek thank you. We then get introduced to the apple family. Big Mac, Apple bloom, and Granny Smith last.
“Well I see the food is taken care of we must be leaving.” Twilight said.
“Aren’t ya gonna stay for brunch?” Apple bloom.
“Sorry, but we must be on our way.” Twilight said in a tone that could rival Celestia’s kind tone. There was a collective ‘aww’ from the crowd. We were about to leave until my stomach rumbled.
“Trader.” I said softly. Twilight sighed, most likely because she remembered how long it was when I ate anything.
“Fine.” Every... pony cheered as we ate good food.
Twilight trudged through the street was we went to go find a mare called Rainbow Dash.
“Uhh, I ate to much pie.” She said with her head hung.
“Which one. The food or number.” I quipped. She glared at me which shut me up. “I told you not to eat so much.” My tone was condescending as hell.
“But it was so good.” Twilight was definitely satisfied with her meal. Just then, a blue mare crashed into Twilight.
“Heh... oops.” It was Rainbow Dash. She didn’t just hit Twilight mud, but also hit me with mud that covered half my body. I help Twilight up as a rain cloud hovered over us. “Let me help ya.” She proceeded to bounce on the cloud to make it rain, drenching is completely. “Uh, I’ll fix that.” I trotted away to their own devices. “With my vary own rainblow dry.” I turned to my multi colored tornado. In an instant, I was hit by all the mud. We both looked vary unamused. She bursted out laughing and spike followed suit.
With a flash of Twilight’s horn, all of the mud on me was gone. I felt water drop on me as I now realized what Twilight was doing. I felt wind pick up as I was nearly lifted of the ground. My unknown mane was puffy as well as my tail. I shot a mock glare at her.
“I’m guessing your Rainbow Dash.” Twilight said in a knowing tone. She glared at the Pegasus with intensity that could make a house explode.
“The one and only. Why, you’ve heard of me?” Rainbow Dash was upside down on her own cloud. The was radiating a hopeful aura. I could mess with her... na, not worth it.
“I’ve heard you were supposed to keep the sky’s clear.” Twilight was definitely annoyed at Rainbow’s antics.
“Yah, yah, I’ll do that in a jiffy, just as I’m finished practicing.” Ah, the blue angels in pony form.
“For what?” Twilight asked.
“For the Wonder Bolts, of course.” She pointed to a picture of the stunt flying team.
“The wander bolts. The best flight team in Equestria. As if they would let a Pegasus in if they can’t clear the sky in on messily day.” I smirked at Twilight who was by my side.
Rainbow fixed a hear glare at Twilight. “Are you sayen that I can’t clear the sky. I’ll gave you know that I can clear clouds in ten seconds flat.” I groaned at the boast. I know she can do it, but I hate boasting. I’m glad she didn’t hear it because she would use it as a compitition and hurt herself.
In ten seconds flat, she cleared the sky. I wasn’t impressed because I knew she can do it. Twilight was in awe while I’ve was indifferent. It wasn’t that impressive. I’ve seen the blue angels before and that’s even more impressive than that.
“Ha, your a laugh Twilight Sparkle. We should hangout sometime.” Rainbow said flying away.
Spike flipped Twilight’s hair while he looked at mine. He chuckled before we walked away. “Wait it’s kind of pretty once you get use to it.”
“Sooo,” I began. “Got any funny stories.”
We told funny stories of when we were in school. We came up on the town hall after I finished telling her a really funny story.
“So let me get this straight. When the bell rung, you jumped out of your desk yelling ‘freedom’, caught your hoof on the desk, and landed face first on the ground.” Twilight restated between laughs. Spike was clutching his stomach from the laughter.
“Not to mention, when I was still disoriented, I ran into the open door. And it wasn’t glass.” She burst out laughing again. I felt like I could be normal around her. “You really made a book fort?”
“Yah, I had snacks to last me a weekend. When my parents tried to attack the walls, my brother and I would throw pillows at them. In the end the book kingdom still stood.”
“Where here!” Spike exclaimed. We entered and the decorations were even more beautiful in person... or pony. “Beautiful.” He said dreamily.
“Agreed, the decorations are coming along nicely.” Twilight and I said at the same time. We looked at each other and blinked. We held back our laughter, but it slipped through. “Great minds thank alike.” Our laughter grew. Twice in a row. Damn.
“I guess I could agree.” We stopped and faced the new voice. It was Rarity with a smug look before it turned to horror. “Darlings, what happened to your mane.”
“A wild Rainbow Dash appeared and used tornado.” I answered for Twilight. I guess our little laughing session made it easier to talk to others.
“Well, I can't stand to have such imperfections.” She pushed Twilight and I was picked up in her magic aura. I struggled, but inevitably gave up.
I asked for a haircut only as I refused to take of my sweater. I know what she will do.
I got a good a better look at my self when she placed me in front of a mirror. I had a crimson mane and brass colored eyes. My coat was a dark orange. When she finished my mane, it resumed something like Shining Armor’s mane. It looked pretty damn good.
“So if I my ask, why do you like that sweater so much?” Rarity asked.
“I got it at a marching band competition that we won.” I explained. “We strive for protection even if we can’t reach it.” I turned to Rarity and held out my hoof. “Brass Clef, nice to meet you.” It was quiet, but you could hear it nicely.
“Rarity Belle, at you serves.” She took my hoof and shook it. She didn’t like it, but did it any ways. “Well if you don’t want a new sweater, could I modify it.” I was intrigued now.
“Sure.” I gave a meek smile. “Could you put my cutie mark on it. It fits the theme of the jacket. Plus, could you do it on the left shoulder. I hope I’m not that much of a burden on you work.” She scoffed.
“That’s easy, darling. Sense this is your first visit, I’ll do it for free. It’s a political.” I smiled and nodded. She left and the sound of a sewing machine followed a few minutes after. “I should be finished at the end of the day. Go do what you need to do. I’m finished with the decorations so you can leave now.” We took our leave with smiles at her generosity.
“Lastly, Fluttershy. She’s handling the music.” Spike said.
In a matter of seconds we heard birds chirping a regal toon. It sounded great, except for the blue jay that was five cents sharp.
Fluttershy flew up to the jay. “Um... excuse me, but your a little sharp. Now let’s try it again. A one, a two, a one two—“ she was cut off by Twilight.
“Hi there.” She greeted. It was so sudden and scared poor Fluttershy. Fluttershy flew up with an ‘eep’. She came down and faced Twilight. “I’m sorry I scared your birds away.” Fluttershy pawed at the ground. “Well... I’m Twilight sparkle. And you are.”
“I’m Futter...” she mumbled the last part.
“What was that?” Twilight asked.
“I’m...” she didn’t even get to her name.
“Didn’t quite catch that.” Twilight was oblivious to her shyness. I walked out and gave her a kind smile. She returned one.
This time she squeaked which was adorable. I walked up and introduced my self.
“Hello, I’m Brass Clef. Nice to meet you.” My tone matched hers. “I understand if your a little shy. I’m also shy. It’s great to talk to somepony as shy as me.” She nods with a meek smile. Her birds came back knowing it was safe.
“Well, your birds are back we’ll leave you to your practice.” Twilight pointed out. Spock walked out of his hiding place in the bushes. “That went better than expected.” Fluttershy saw this and her audited did a complete one-eighty.
“A baby dragon.” Fluttershy meekly yelled.
She rushed over and knocked Twilight onto me. We were facing each other, our muzzles inches apart. Our faces flushed red as the heat rose to our cheeks. We scrambled away from each other. We looked over to the two and they were heading to the library.
“We never speak of this again.” She commanded. She still had a blush, but it was faint.
“Speak of what?” I asked. I could feel my blush across my muzzle.
“Exactly.” We started towards the library.
When we got there, spike was gone as well as Fluttershy. The lights were off and the blinds were closed. I held the door open for Twilight as she entered. I tripped and landed face first... again.
“Damn it! Does the world have a grudge against my face!” I yelled. This is the third time today.
The lights flickered on as the entire town was in the small library. Pinkie popped up late.
“Surprise.” She looked left and right. “Shoot, I’m late.” I chuckled at the funny sight.
Pinkie ranted behind us. It eventually got annoying and we groaned at the same time. We poured our selves some red liquid. She drank it and I remembered what happened.
“Are you alright Twilight?” Applejack asked.
Twilight faced them with her face extremely red. She burst into flames and ran up the stairs. Spike twisted the bottle to reveal it was hot sauce. They looked at me as I looked at the drink. Shrugging, I gulped down the sauce.
“It was a little sweet.” I stated. I use to eat jalapeños for snacks, this is nothing. “I’ll go check up on Twilight.” I sat up and began my march to the upper levels.
It was quiet and a little dark. I saw her calmer, but still feeling the effects of the hot sauce. She had a defeated look.
“You alright.” I asked. She jumped at the sudden voice. “You looked like you were in a lot of pain.”
“I was. Luckily the effects where off fast.” She informed.
We sat in an uncomfortable silence for a few minutes. The sounds of the party outside the door was muffled, but echoed through out the room. Eventually I spoke.
“I know your a little reluctant to make friends, but you miss them when their gone. Believe me, I lost all my friends. At least try to make friends and if you want I could be your first.” I smile kindly and proceeded to walk to her. I sat again as I held out a hoof. “What do you say?” She took it and returned my smile.
“I would like that.” She said as we let go. “Your a nice stallion, you know.”
“Well, technically, I’m not one.” She did a double take. “Promise not to tell.” She put a hoof to her chin in contemplation. Why do I trust her so much. She nodded. “Okay. Have you heard of the Multiverse Theory?” She nodded. “Well where I come from this is a TV show. Like a moving comic. The creator, Loran Faust, made this as you as the main character. It has spawned a huge fan base from all ages, male and female, even though it was made for young children. My best guess is that a magical anomaly sent me here, today of all days.” I laid down on my stomach with my hooves over my head.
“What’s so bad about today?” She grinned.
“Tomorrow is LGPE for band. I’ve been trying to get a scholarship in music. That would have helped. But it’s too late.” My dreams, crushed in front of me. I felt warm tears crawl down my face.
“Was it really that important?” She gasped. Twilight’s response was me nodding. “Well, sense you’re here, if Nightmare Moon is a fake—“ I cut her off.
“She’s real. But I thank I can talk some sense into her. Plus, episode one.” She was taking this rather- who am I kidding. It was a good idea to start with the multiverse theory.
“A-are you sure?” I nod. “We should worn everypony. A—“ I cut her off again.
“No, I’ll only tell you if it’s an episode. And to let you know, there are seven seasons. Like seven books in this case.” Her eyes widen. “I can’t remember much, but I’ll help in major events.” She nods. “I’ll do what I can today or tomorrow, depends on your view.” Spike burst through the door.
“Come on you two it’s time to see the sunrise.” Spike said. “Or maybe you need a little more time to yourselves.” He gave a sly grin before walking out.
“Great, now that I’m here, spike is a prick.” Twilight chuckled. “What the hell. Let’s go.” I said with a meek smile.
“Ladies and gentlecolts, I’m glad to announce that the Summer Sun Celebration was a complete success.” Cheering filled the town hall. Now the speech has changed. “Now I present you, the bringer of harmony, the one that gives us the sun and moon each and every day, Princess Celestia!” The birds played and the crowd cheered, until the balcony was empty.
A gasp came from the crowd. Pinkie being Pinkie though she was hiding.
“She’s gone.” Rarity said. Ponies began to panic. Fluttershy gasped when the swirl of magic appeared on the small balcony.
Surprise surprise, it was Nightmare Moon.
“Ah, my precious subjects. How good it is to see your sun loving faces.” Everypony was terrified, but I was indifferent.
“What did you do with our princess?!” Rainbow shouted. She tried to bolt towards the dark blue alicorn.
“Simmer down sally.” Applejack bit her tail before holding her in place.
“Does my crown no longer count! Am I not royal enough for you!” She shouted. “Do you know who I am?!”
“Ooo, guessing games. Um... hokey smokes. AHA... queen meany, QUEEN MEA—“ Pinkie was cot off when Applejack shoved an apple in her mouth.
“I know who you are. Your the mare in the moon... Nightmare Moon.” Twilight revealed. If only she knew the half of it.
“Somepony does remember me... then you know why I’m here.” She challenged.
“Your here to... to.” Nightmare laughed at her fear.
“Enjoy your last day my little ponies because it was your last. Haha—“ I began clapping out of amusement. She searched the crowd until she saw me. I had an amused look on my face. “Do you not believe me!” She snarled.
“Oh I do. Vary much so. But you’re not seeing the bigger picture...”
“Luna.”
