//-------------------------------------------------------// Dude, Where’s My Snail? -by Fan- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Where Are You? //-------------------------------------------------------// Where Are You? Celestia’s glowing orb was very bright that morning, and that was very evident in the room of Snails. He was in the middle of a very peacful sleep, but was awakened by a feeling of warmth in his eyes. His eyes opened and adjusted to the sunlight. Though his sleep was over, that didn’t stop his trademark grin from appearing on his face. He yawned and stretched his back, and then stopped when he felt a series of satisfying pops and creaks. He looked over to his desk, where he hoped to find his pet. Now, usually a ponies first pet choice would be a dog, a cat, or even a tortoise. Not Snails, he opted for something a little bit different. He had a snail. That’s right, a snail. The snail’s name was Salty, which is both ironic and a bit strange. Snails found him on a field trip to Canterlot Gardens, and took him home on the same day. Ever since then, they’ve been inseparable. Well, about as inseparable as a colt and snail could be at least. When Snails looked over, something didn’t seem right. Salty wasn’t in his enclosure, or even anywhere near it. Snails looked around for a little bit in hopes in finding his shelled friend, but he had no luck. Though his pet was nowhere to be found, Snails grin had not yet disappeared. He had hope that his pet was nearby and that he just slid away. He got up out of his bed and made his way into the living room. His mom and dad were in the living doing typical morning things. His mother was a mare with a dark yellow coat and a mane of orange. His father had a coat of red, and his mane was a dark navy blue. They supported Snails’s hobby more than anypony else, and loved him just like any other family would. “Well hello sweetie! Did you sleep well?”, his mother asked him. “Yeah, mom I did. How about you?”, Snails asked back. “Just fine, dear. How’s Salty?”, his mother asked. Snails’s goofy grin faded a bit, but he still had hope that his pet would be found. “Well..I don’t know”, Snails said back. “What do you mean you don’t know?”, His mom asked. “I don’t know where he is”, Snails sadly sadly sad. “Oh no! Do you have any idea where he could be?”, His mom said. “Don’t worry honey, I’m sure Salty is ok”, His dad said while looking up from the newspaper paper. “Do you think you could help me look for him, dad?”, Snails asked his father. “I’m afraid I can’t, son. I have to leave for my business trip in about an hour,” the older stallion said. “Ok, what about you mom?”, Snails hopefully asked. “Oh, I’m sorry dear. Mommy has to go to Manehatten with Aunt Dusty, so I’m afraid I can’t help you”, His mother asked. Snails looked at his parents with an almost confusing stare. He had never been left home alone before, and thought scared him. Plus, his pet was missing. So two very scary things happened at once, and as you’d expect, the poor colt was already stressed. “O-Oh”, Snails spurted out. “What’s wrong, sport?”, His dad asked. “I’ve never been home alone before. I’m scared”, Snails said. “We figured that you would say that, so we got you company”, His mom said. Snails face lit up. He was going to have somepony with him, and that soothed his worries a little, but his curiosity got the better of him. “Who did you get?”, he asked. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. His dad got up and answered it. In walked Snips, Snails’s life long best friend. Though he was smaller, Snips was actually older than Snails, having been born one year before Snails. Snails immediately grew curious as to why they would get his best friend to stay there. “You got Snips? Doesn’t he have to help his family run the barber shop?”, Snails asked. “Well, my parents are also going out of town. So they thought that we could keep each other company. Honestly, I’m pretty psyched to be staying here for a week!”, Snips said. “A WEEK?”, Snails worridly asked. Both parents nodded and smiled. —————————————————————— After being alone for two days, Snips and Snails had already ran out of stuff to do. They’d play board games, card games, and even read comic books. Throughout all of those riveting activities, Snips noticed that Snails wasn’t being himself. He was less cheerfull and more down, and instead of his big grin, he wore a light frown. Being his best friend, Snips was worried about Snails. He didn’t ask, as he didn’t know how his friend would react. They were in the living room drawing pictures, and Snips finally saw the opportunity to ask his friend about his attitude. “Hey Snails?”, Snips asked his buddy. “Yeah?”, Snails replied. “Are you ok? You just seem kinda down lately,” Snips said. Snails looked at friend and sighed. He didn’t want to share, but they never kept anything from each other. Reluctantly, he told Snips what was troubling him. “Well, I can’t find Salty”, Snails said glumly. “That’s it?”, Snips asked. That comment struck a chord within Snails. How could Snips be so careless when it came to Salty? He felt insulted. “What do you mean that’s it? Is that all Salty is to you? He’s my friend, Snips! What if you couldn’t find me for two days? How’d you feel?”, Snails said in an angry tone. Snips backed up a bit. He had never seen his friend so emotional. Heck, he didn’t even Snails could GET that emotional! “I’m sorry Snails, I didn’t think he meant that much to you”, Snips tried to apologize. “Of course you don’t think that, you don’t even know me!”, Snails said. He got up and galloped to his bedroom, where they both slept. Snips heard a loud boom admirer the door slammed shut. He cringed when he heard the old wood pop and crackle. “Oh hay, why didn’t I realize it before? Of course Snails would miss Salty, it’s what he lives for! I gotta find a way to fix this”, Snips said. Snips then made his way upstairs. He turned the corner and made to Snips’s door. He knocked, but didn’t receive an answer. He let himself in and saw a sad sight. Snails was cradling Salty’s enclosure and crying hard. It was clear that he missed his slimey friend. Snips trotted up to the bed and sat beside Snails. It took Snails a good minute to realize that his best friend was sitting beside him. When he noticed, he put the enclosure down. “I guess your here to laugh at me, huh?”, Snails said. “No man! I’d never do that! I came here to say that I’m sorry”, Snips said apologetically. “Why should I forgive you? After all, you didn’t even think I missed my pet!”, Snails sad harshly. “Look, I know what I said was dumb, but you gotta forgive me. How long have we been friends for?”, Snips said. Snails face softened as he remembered all the good times they had. He wasn’t mad at Snips, he just was sad that his friend seemingly didn’t care. “Alright, I forgive you”, Snails said. “Thanks, bro. How about we sleep? I’m honestly tired from drawing”, Snips said with a laugh. Snails chuckled and laid down in his bed. Snips laid down on his makeshift floor-bed, and the two drifted to sleep. “Don’t worry, Snails. I’ll help you find Salty. I promise”, Snips thought as he dozed away. Author's Note I hope y’all like this story! I’m sorry that I probably didn’t get the characters right, but at least I tried. Leave criticism and comments if you like. See ya!- Fan //-------------------------------------------------------// Found You! //-------------------------------------------------------// Found You! Snips and Snails were eating breakfast in Snails’s kitchen. They were having cereal, and a pretty good kind in fact. Every bite was like a little bundle of heaven in their mouths. So chocolatey, so sugary, so....sweet. Anyway, after the breakfast was done, they decided to take a walk around town. After all, what more could they do in Snails’s house? They weren’t gonna do jigsaw puzzles, that’s for sure. They approached town square, which was already bustling with life and energy. The ponies of Ponyville were doing their usual trading, buying, and other things. That wasn’t reason the two colts were there, however. Snips made a promise, and by Luna’s purple flank he was going to keep it. They had already looked everywhere inside and outside of Snails’s house, so that location held no value in the search. Snails face was that of determination, which in his case was very rare. They began to look around town, making sure that every location was checked and crossed off. A thought began to enter Snips mind at this point. “Snails, I’ve got something to ask you”, Snips said “Ask away”, Snails said while looking under a rock. “Not to sound rude, but what are we doing? Salty is a snail, right? How far could he have gone?”, Snips tried to politely say. Snails was about to get angry, but he realized that his friend had a point. He WAS a snail. That thought hadn’t popped into Snails’s mind until that very moment. “Your right. Let’s just go home, then”, Snails said with a tinge of sadness. As they began to turn away, a little white filly approached them with happiness in her eyes. “Hiya Snipth! Heya Snailths! How are ya?”, asked the filly. “Hey Twist, What’s up?”, Snips replied. Twist was a very kind individual, so she would probably help anypony that asked her for assistance. “Not much, I’m justh trying to find something to do”, Twist said boredly. Snips decided that know was probably the time to ask for help. “We might could help you with that”, Snips said. “Really?! How?!”, Twist excitedly asked. “Snails lost his pet snail, and we can’t find him. You think you can help us out?”, Snips asked. Snails just remained quiet. He didn’t like asking for help from other ponies, so he let Snips do the talking. “Oh gee, that soundsth awful! Of course I’ll help you try to find the poor thing!”, Twist said while giving a mock salute. Snails smiled, one of the few times that week, and thanked Twist. —————————————————————— The three foals sat on Snails’s porch, dripping with sweat. They had quite literally looked everywhere. Under furniture, inside furniture, and even above furniture. These foals were quite pooped. Twist was sucking a candy cane while Snips tried to comfort Snails. The poor colt was a bit tearful, and that wasn’t hard to tell. Earlier in the day, a bunch of colts and fillies pitched in and tried to help. Even Diamond Tiara looked for the tiny snail, much to Everypony’s shock. Back to Snails, he was almost ready to give up. That was until he felt his mane move a bit. He peeled back his mane and made a really frustrating discovery. There was Salty, just lounging on Snails’s scalp, and generally not caring. Upon seeing his friend, Snails gave him a big (but careful) hug. Both Snips and Twist just stared in amazement. How could Snails not feel that? All that slimey, scaley, slippery....grossness going on near his brain. “Well, I guess we found him! Come on Snips, let’s play some bingo!”, Snails said. Snips sighed and followed his friend in the house. Twist just sat on her haunches and pondered the most important question. “What The buck justh happened?!”
