Prolouge: Of Duties, Dreams & Delusions

The night sky shown brightly as the young girl stood and gazed upon its majesty from the air ship. It had been her first time she had been on one of Queen Celestia's Royal Airships in quite some time and the first time she had been sent on one with such an important mission, but thankfully she was not alone.

"Enjoying the stars again are we Princess Twilight?" A voice playfully asked from behind. Twilight turning back to see her dear friend and fellow pupil of Celestia; Sunset Shimmer smiling at her.

"I wish you wouldn't tease me like that, you know i'm not a princess yet, neither of us are." Twilight scolded Sunset.

"No, but we've all heard the rumors around the castle, so don't act like you aren't one more gold star away from getting your wings" Sunset teased. "Meanwhile i'm ever at a standstill" she sighed as she joined Twilight out on the Zepplin's balcony.

"Come now Sunset, you work just as hard as I do and i'm sure your mo....er I mean our teacher the queen has taken note of that. Equestria has always been a land of balance, two rulers, I am sure in time we shall both Ascend and attain our full magic." Twilight smiled in an attempt to reassure her friend.

"He, perhaps, but none of that is important right now, so bookworm, what can you tell us about this Fantasia we shall be visiting on behalf of our dear Queen!?" Sunset asked looking up at her nerdy companion.

Twilight just huffed and rearranged her glasses. "Well, 5 years ago the islands previous ruler King Crescendo mysteriously passed away leaving his eldest daughter who was only thirteen at the time in charge, she turns 18 in three days and is having a big celebration for her coming of age where she will legally become the ruler of the island in full." Twilight explained.

"Huh, only three days? Think this hunk o junk will make it there in time?" Sunset asked.

Twilight just looked at her companion and gave out a low groan. "You know Celestia & Luna wouldn't give us a ship that's unreliable"

"Yea, whatever." Sunset yawned as she set down on a nearbye deck chair. Twilight just looking at her with a sour face.

"So what do yea think the nerds are chatting about?" A turqoise skinned girl in silver armor asked her partner as she stretched out her green wings.

"No idea. Can't say I care either, i'm just here to keep an eye on em." The partner replied rather monotone.

"Geez Dash, you're no fun anymore!" The amber haired guards pegasus whined.

"Sorry Lightning, but I don't wanna get on Spitfire's bad side again so i'm playing this one straight." The Cyan skinned girl stated as she folded in her wings.

"Pfftt.....whatever" Lightning Dust pouted. "I joined the EUP guard to get to the top of the Pegasus division and become a Wonderbolt, not babysit some princesses in training!" The girl continued to whine.

"Yea, well same here." Rainbow Dash reminded her. "But we can't do that if we get kicked out, so for now we do our jobs and protect these two, no matter what." Rainbow sternly stated looking at Lightning Dust. The girl just groaning in compliance.

Meanwhile on the island of Fantasia.

"Is everything ready for my party dear sisters?" A seductive voice asked in a rather inquisative tone.

"Yes Grand Duchess Adagio. All the invitations were sent out and the delegates from our former allied nations should arrive in three days"

"Excellent Work Sonata. Your Duchess is pleased." Adagio cooed.

"Hehe, Thanks Dagi" Sonata chuckled, getting a low angry growl from Adagio in return. "Ah-I mean t-thank you my duchess!" Sonata quickly corrected

"He, better" Adagio chuckled.

"And what about you Aria? Did you finish your tasks?" Adagio asked quite sternly looking down an the stubborn pig-tailed girl.

"Yea, the maids got all the cheesy decorations and the bakers are making a bunch of red velvet cakes or whatever." Aria answered with a resentful tone.

"And what about the special chocolate sorbee imported from Griffonstone and the special plants from Abnysia?" Adagio growled.

"Yea, sorry sis, couldn't get em." Aria playfully sighed.

Adagio looked at Aria with daggers in her eyes. "Unacceptable!" She screeched. "This party has to be perfect or else!!"

"Or else what!?" Aria mockingly asked.

"Or else I may have to discipline you again Aria, and I really don't think you want that so close to the big day." Adagio threatened picking up the long, thick black whip she always kept by her side, setting it in her lap as she set on her throne looking down at the two girls.

"Tsskk, fine, i'll get the rest of your fancy pants desserts, just chill out...sheesh." Aria nervously huffed.

"Hehe, good." Adagio smiled. "After all it is going to be a very important day and I need everything to be absolutly perfect for the ceremony. So everyone in Fantasia and beyond will know that I Adagio am the greatest ruler this pathetic world has ever known!!" The young woman began to laugh with maniacal glee. Meanwhile Aria & Sonata just starred at each other, too afraid to move or say anything lest they spoil The Duchess's good mood and incur her wrath.
