Horizon
When I was a little kid, maybe eight or nine, my father and I were briefly stranded at sea. The motor had sputtered and lurched for over an hour before it finally seized, leaving us adrift in mirror calm waters. We were surrounded by… nothing, just the line where the sea met the sky.
For a moment, before my father keyed up his radio to call for help, I felt as if there was nothing else in the world but what I could see. It was so incredibly vast, but so very small. It terrified me, and I never went fishing with him again.
Later in life I was granted a gift and made a terrible, wonderful mistake. I made many friends and through them, I learned to love myself despite what I am.
My name is Horizon, and I’m not all you can see.
