My First Hour In A land Of Magical Talking Horses Who May Or May Not Be Out For My Blood
A soft breeze blew through the meadow bringing with the scent of fall. The sun glared above me as I stood by the road waiting for the school bus. I looked left and then right. Where is that damn bus? I know I live out in the middle of nowhere but come on! It's never THIS late. I sighed.
Suddenly a screeching noise cut through the silence causing me to snap my head to the right right before something crashed into me at blinding speeds. Excruciating pain ripped through my body as a weightless feeling overcame me momentarily. With a ‘thud’ I landed on my side gasping for breath. Every breath hurt like hell. Something warm and metallic started leaking from my mouth. That's not good.
My head was lifted up and through my hazy eyes I saw it was my mom. Oh yeah, my parents are out here.
She was crying, “It’s alright Alex, it’s alright! Help is coming, just hold on! Oh God, I can’t lose another one,” She ran her fingers through my sandy blonde hair well cradling my head. Damn, now I feel bad! Sure it wasn’t my fault, but still. I hate making my mother cry. Wait, another one? What did she mean another one?
I was dimly aware of someone screaming in the background. Turning my head I saw my dad screaming at a person I didn't recognize. They were in front of a car so my guess is that the car was what hit me.
I couldn’t stand it anymore so I looked away and at the sky. It was so beautiful with its shades of blue and white fluffy clouds. Unfortunately, it too was becoming fuzzy. Tears started falling from my eyes. Dammit, I don’t wanna die! It's just not fair! Why do I have to die?!
I don’t wanna die!
Suddenly, an ear piercing boom greeted my ears. My eyes became saucers as I watched a rainbow ring shoot across the sky bring with it a strong gust of wind. Despite that fact that I was dying I still managed to smile at the sheer beauty of it.
That last thing I remember was a scratchy female voice.
Colors danced across my vision as I found myself coming to. Blinking once, then twice, I stared out across a field filled with flowers. The angle That I was staring out across the field was strange. I looked to my right and noticed a brown trunk going up and down. A tree? How did I get up a tree? Wait, shouldn't I be dead?
I took a deep breath and to my surprise I could no longer feel anymore pain in my chest. Which was strange because I was just hit by a car! Nevermind, now that I know that the insides are fine it's time to check the outside.
I tried to wiggle my fingers and toes but to my surprise I couldn't. In fact I couldn’t feel them at all! That's a little worrying. Did the crash hurt me more than I realize?
With that in mind I decided to check my legs, which already felt a little off to begin with. They didn't bend the way I wanted to and instead bent the opposite way toward my body. I flinched. That’s not good, that car really fucked me up! At this point I’m pretty sure I need surgery to fix my legs alone.
Finally working up the courage, I decided to look at my legs dangling off the sides of the branch I was laying on. I was greeted with the sight of gray fur spread all along my leg and where my feet should have been was now hooves. Dangling off to my left side was a two toned, light and dark purple tail. I stared at it with a mix of surprise and confusion before looking at my front appendages which I now noticed were also hooves.
“What the hell?!” I started thrashing, which wasn’t my best idea of all time because next thing I knew I was laying on the grass thinking about how dumb I was. Yup, gravity still works!
I just layed there for a bit trying to calm my heart before I heard noises off in the distance which make two things on top of my head twitch. Reaching up and patting my head, I found out the those twitchy things where in fact ears. Long and erect with tufts of fur at the tips but still ears.
As the noises got closer I recognize them as voices which made two things on my back unfurl and start flapping. Oh no, I can’t let anyone see me!
I practically drag myself under a bush and curl into a ball to make myself smaller. As the voices got closer I found I couldn't understand what they were saying but I did manage to pick up six different female voices. A calm voice, an elegant voice, a scratchy voice, a quiet voice, a country voice, and finally a energetic voice. They stopped in front of the bush and went quiet.
“Hold your breath and don't move,” something whispered in my ear. Following the things command I held my breath and didn't make any sudden moves until the calm voice said something and they started walking again. Once they were gone I let my breath out and relaxed.
“Thank you,” I thanked whoever spoke to me before. As if responding, something warmed up against my chest causing me to look down. To my confusion I finally noticed a red curved horn dangling from my neck by a black chain. Something told me that it wasn’t just a fashion accessory.
Shaking my head, I crawled out of the bush and into the open air before stretching like a cat. Then I remembered the flapping I felt earlier so I looked at my back. There was two dark blueish bat wings on my back. Wait, do I have fangs too? I licked along my teeth and indead found two fangs.
Okay, so it appears that I’m some type bat horse now. At least it's better than being dead, right? I took a deep breath and let it out. Come on Alex you’ve got this! First order of business is find some water and then get out of the God forsaken sun, it's hurting my eyes!
I looked around and quickly found a small stream a little ways away. Smiling, I slowly put one hoof in front of the other making my way towards it. It took a bit but I did manage to get over to it.
Peeking down at the water, I was greeted with the sight of two amber colored eyes with cat like pupils. I bared my teeth at the water and admired my two fangs. The only question I have about them was if they were for meat, blood, or something else.
I lowered my head and dipped my muzzle into the water. I nearly recoiled in shock at how clean it was, it didn’t have a metallic taste which was something I wasn’t used to. In fact it was almost unnaturally clean.
“Look behind you,” there was that voice again! Why did it want me to look behind me though? Shrugging, I did as told and looked behind me. I froze.
A mint colored horse with a horn on its head stood behind me. Its mane was cyan and white and its eyes were yellow. It stared at me with a look of confusion as its eyes roamed my body, taking extra time to gaze at the horn dangling from my neck. It looked me in the eyes and said something in a female voice.
I tilted my head and flicked my ear, “I’m sorry but I don’t understand.” Its eyes widened and a creepy grin spread across its face and said a single word. It was with a strange accent but I actually understood what she said.
“Human.”
The way she said it struck fear into my very being. She started approaching me slowly, like a predator stalking its prey. Not knowing what else to do I took off running with her hot on my tail, screaming something I didn’t understand. I don’t care what she’s saying though, I can already tell she’s nuttier than a fruit cake!
I ran as fast as I could but I couldn't seem to shake her. In the distance I could see six horses talking, the purple one with a blue mane with pink and purple highlights and a horn and feathered wings turned and looked at me as I approached. I caught the sight of its eyes widening as I hid behind it, shaking like a leaf in a windstorm.
“I don’t know who you are but please help me, that girl is crazy!” I pointed at the mint colored horse rapidly approaching with that creepy grin of hers. The purple horse looked at me with confusion and looked that the mint horse and spoke in that calm female voice I heard earlier.
The purple horse said a word that sounded like “Lyra” and from there spoke in that language I didn’t understand. I guess Lyra was the mint colored one’s name because she stopped and said the word “Twilight” like it was a name to address the purple horse.
Twilight shook her head and spoke in a sturner tone of voice making Lyra back off. The mint horse gave one last look of longing before trotting away. I sighed in relief and looked at Twilight with thankfulness. It's the best I could do since they couldn't understand me as much as I could understand them.
“Don’t get too comfortable. You’ve just made the situation worse.” I flicked my ear, what did the voice mean that I just made it worse? I got my answer when the purple horse suddenly gasped. I looked away from where Lyra disappeared and noticed Twilight looking at the horn around my neck with horror.
“Sombra,” she whispered. Sombra? Who’s Sombra?
Quickly her calm attitude became hostile as she turned around and narrowed her eyes. She got into a fighting position and to my suprise her horn light up! I gulped and started backing away, not taking my eyes off the glowing object.
I heard voices all around me. Looking around, I was reminded of the other horses that was with Twilight. The Orange one with the blond mane and cowboy hat glared daggers at me with her emerald green eyes well the cyan winged horse with magenta eyes and a rainbow mane digged at the ground, looking like she was about to charge me. The white horned horse with the beautiful purple mane and blue eyes was looking at me with confusion well the pink one with the poofy darker pink mane was hopping up and down grinning. The butter colored winged horse with a light pink mane and blue eyes looked just as scared as me.
“These ponies… okay, you clearly need some help. There's an opening between the pink and yellow one. I’ll distract them well you escape between there,” the voice growled in my ear before the red horn that I’ve grown attached too lit up and blinded the horses. My eyes widened and I bolted between the pink and yellow horses and down the road. There was yelling from behind me and the sound of hooves.
“Move to the left,” I did just when a beam of purple light shot past me and hit a tree, completely obliterating it! I didn’t even have time to mourn the loss of that poor tree when another flew past me. I ran behind a boulder and held my chest well trying to catch my breath.
“Clearly I’ve underestimated those ponies. I guess you’ll have to use the power of my horn, I didn’t expect you to have to use it so soon though,” the voice mumbled. I looked down at the horn in confusion as it continued, “Focus on the horn and feel its energy.”
“What, focus? Focus?! How can I focus when I have horses trying to kill me with magical laysers?!” I grabbed and pulled my hair.
The voice sighed, “Calm down, Alex, and do as I say.”
After taking a deep breath and slapping myself a few times I managed to calm myself just enough to focus on the horn. I’m not sure that the voice hopes for me to accomplish but whatever. After focusing for a moment I felt some type of energy. It felt... dark. It made me a little uneasy.
“Good, good. Feel that energy? Focus on that and draw it forth.” The outside world seemed so far away but off in the distance I heard the horses “Don’t pay attention to them, just draw it forth.”
I did just that with one hard tug, it came so fast it made me gasp. At that moment the cyan horse ran around the boulder I was hiding behind and pounced on me, only to be blasted away by a wave of black, green, and purple energy. She crashed into a tree and there was a loud snap and lots of screaming.
I stared at her in horror, she thrashed on the ground screaming bloody murder. Her wing was bent at a weird angle which I guess means that her wing is broken. Oh God, what did I do?!
“I’m sorry,” I whispered and just then something orange crashed into me at high speeds. My head to bounced off the ground and everything went black.
