It's the first period. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary, just sitting in English class, waiting for anything to happen. Nah, that's asking for too much.
Like hell, anything will happen at all. The classroom phone runs through the class, thinking nothing of it, I had returned to my reading. My teacher tapped my shoulder...
"The principal wants to see you. Take your stuff, you might need them."
"Okay, thanks for the heads up." I took my belongings and walked out of class. In the hallways, I let out a small sigh. What could the principal want with me? I haven't done anything that could get me in trouble. This all too weird...

In the office, I had my face drowned in my book. Sometimes I get too far in my book, like way too far. I never considered myself being a bookworm, but I can appreciate a good story.
"Nate Babich, I've heard you've been having 'emotional issues'." The principal had darted around the 'emotional issues'. I finished my page, put my bookmark in, and faced the ruler of this charade. I paced my hand on my shoulder and began rubbing it, I do that when I'm nervous.
"Yes... but I never pictured this meeting being about 'that',"
"Have you told your parents about those problems you have been facing, alone," I looked around the room. Not many people know this, but I have a hard time controlling my emotions. More specifically, my sadness...
"No, I don't think that'd be a good idea. I want to, but I'm unsure about my whole predicament right now,"
"We'll just have to help you then. We have someone assigned to you, she knows a lot about friendship!" Friendship? That sounds super corny and I love it. Wait, hold on! Assigned to me? What kind of baloney is that!?
"Wait! assigned? Like the special ed kids? Not to be rude..."
"It's fine, we should introduce you to her. Miss Sparkle, can you come here?" Sparkle? Odd last name, kinda like Twilight Sparkle... But there's no way that could be true! MLP is just Fiction!
The person in question had finally revealed herself. It was Twilight Sparkle, but she's anthro... what the actual fuck! She had jean shorts on and a black hoodie that read; 'friendship is magic!'. Her leggings were long, having purple and pink stripes weaved into the fabric of the leggings. She did have shoes, somehow fitting over her hooves (I'm not bothering questioning it at this point). I sat there, dumbfounded.

"Hello, you must be Nathaniel." Twilight held out her hand, she looked to be in her mid-twenties. She could've dressed more casually if she tried, but it kinda reminded me of my math teacher. I stood up to greet the mare.
"Yep, you can just call me Nate. It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Sparkle." I said while shaking her hand.
"There's no need for formalities, you can call me Twilight. The pleasure is all mine." I already know you, Sparklebutt. But I need to act like I don't know you, it'd be too weird if I started referencing the show and her friends. Too sketchy... Twilight clears her throat, I could tell she wants to get down to the point.
"Let's talk about your problems. What's bothering you?" Too many things...
"Too many things. Twilight I... I have problems controlling my emotions, but it's not anger or over-joy. It's sadness, it's all sad. The nurse tried to give me anti-depressants, but I don't think it's just depression. I think it's something more... something even darker than anything I could imagine..."
hopelessness... It's such a dreadful feeling.
"In class, I act like I'm always a joyful joker. I make other people happy because I can't make myself happy, no matter how much I try. I know you're not a school counselor, but I wanted to tell you how I feel."
I finished my whole speech, somehow not gasping for air. I expected nothing significant happening, but Twilight hugged me with her arms and wings. I didn't cry (I was trying my hardest not to) I'm just kinda lost. I get that she's the 'princess of friendship', but she's hugging a kid she had only known for a few minutes.
"Nate, I want to break the corruption in your mind. I know what you're going through it tough, but you should never give up! There are multiple ~~ponies~~ people that would be greatly affected by that choice." Twilight had let go of me. We became too overdramatic. The situation was a 2 changed into a 15, the principal was even more impressed. He knows he hired someone good for the job. I rubbed the back of my neck, trying to find something to say.
"Wow, Twilight... That escalated pretty fast. Almost too fast..."
"Yeah, I'm going to agree with you on that one." We both let out an embarrassed laugh. I guess this happens when dealing with the princess of friendship.
"We should get you to your classes, Nate." The principal offered.
"Oh, right! Nate let's go!" Twilight took my hand and had led me out of the school office, I thankfully still had my stuff. Seeing how I managed to miss two periods, I have science next. I'm guessing Twilight is going to be with me from the rest of the school year. Hopefully, my friends don't think she's too weird.

Science had nothing going on. We had to go over some guided notes, which I was never a fan of doing. Twilight had informed my science teacher my condition, I don't know how looming over me in my classes will help me. But I shouldn't question my principal too much, he is just trying to help.
I did get some comments, more from my stupid classmates. I always thought this science class was the most dimwitted bunch ever created, and my claims still stand to this day.
It all didn't matter too much. Most importantly, my life just became more interesting than I could have ever imagined.
