The light suddenly glowed brighter and then dimmed around them. Nova felt a wind reach for them from the ground itself. The light suddenly beamed brighter from the ground, glowing a brilliant white blue, the wind picked up and Discord had time to look down to see a portal open below them. The earth was there and then gone as they were dropped into nothingness.

The two held tight to each other as everything fell away from their reality. It felt like no time at all and yet, like the drop would never end. Neither of them could feel the other, Nova screamed but there was no sound made. Her body was gone, her sight was gone, all she could sense was air whipping around her and the bright light that eventually lead into pure blackness. Time had no meaning and when the assault through the portal ended Nova fell unconscious on a cool marble floor.

Discord understood that Nova’s power opening up must had been a trigger to send them back towards Celestia but, travelling through the portal felt harsh, it pushed on his being and tried to break his mind. Something was trying to keep them out. He held Nova tighter and opened his own power to push away this other entity. It must be Grogar he had time to think before a sliver of cool power rushed him and he felt his hand pulled from Nova. Then, he couldn’t see, couldn’t think, he could only be on this wild ride from hell.

He landed outside the castle. Everything looked the same as it had been except that he could see the glow from Celestia’s powers. She and Luna must be waking from their crystalline sleep. Slowly he moved forward on all fours his body feeling torn from the inside out. Drops of red hit the ground as he moved towards the marbled hallway that lead to where he had last seen the princesses. He turned the corner and found their resting place. The golden light felt warm and he could feel tears streaking his face. They dropped red to the marble floor.

The light was spellbinding and as it became as bright as the sun she was in charge of rising Celestia rose into the air. Discord watched in awe as the sun goddess was joined by a healed Luna who joined her haunting pale blue glow to her sisters. The power swirled around them then burst forward flinging the castle into light as it found it’s way to wrap around the palace and form a shield.

The girls landed and as the light began to dim Discord saw that they had came to rest by a small figure laying on the floor. The girls looked up at his blood tear stained face and back down at the body below them. “Oh, Discord….I am so proud of you.” Celestia ran and embraced him. “ You found her…. Oh you found her”

Luna came to his other side and the princesses helped Discord reach the still body. She was breathing slowly but, evenly he noted as he looked at her in wonder. He had brought her through without that other power harming her but, coming through had taken a toll on Nova. He looked up at Celestia and hoped his eyes would explain what he needed to know.

Luna said it first, “Celestia, was she not a different entity? What has happened to her?”

Discord bent down to the figure that was asleep and slowly touched her side. Gone was her human body, instead there lay a young alicorn princess. She resembled her name. Her coat was a mixture of blues, blacks and brilliant purples all changing and flowing from one to the other. Dotted all over her coat were the illusion of stars, sparkling with their own inner light. Her mane and tail were different shades of silvery hair falling into one another. Her horn shone a bluey silver hue, but not just her horn, her whole body seemed to glow as if light by some inner power. Nova truly looked like she was a part of space made to flow into the body of a princess. Her cutie mark was her namesake, a rendition of a supernova, exploding and creating a star all at once. She was breathtaking.

Discord felt tears hit the marble floor as he watched her. How would she react to this change? Would she wake up ok? He felt Celestia near him and looked up at her. “This is Nova. She has the elements inside her body and her magic has manifested itself. She’s funny, kind, and so very brave. She is so much more than I had ever thought to imagine.” He wiped tears away and touched Celestia, “ time passed not for you but, for me, I have been gone for four years. I have been alone and searching for Nova for four years Princess.” He looked down at Nova stroking her cheek as he continued, “ this young lady has become very precious to me Celestia. She is so much more than a vessel for the elements. She is special … so very special.”

“Discord, you have done our world a great service. Her name is Nova?”, he nodded, “she looks exactly like her name would imply. The energy that she has inside her has helped pick her form for this world. She will wake soon, will you stay with her? I need to check on our castle and make sure Luna is well. I am so sorry I put this burden on you, but, you are part of this world and immortal like us. We have a duty to our land, we need to stop Grogar before anymore damage can be done. Time may have been frozen here while you were abroad but, it’s not now. We need to prepare Discord.”

She bent down and nuzzled him. “I am so happy to have you here. I will be back as quickly as I can. See if you can wake your Nova.” With that she trotted down the hallway to find Luna who had exited before her.

Discord felt the energy change around him. She was waking and he could feel it. Slowly her eyes began to open, even the blues in her eyes had changed, star dust was now caught inside them. She lifted her head slowly and let her eyes focus on him. She stayed quiet as she looked down and took in how she had changed. Her breathing became a bit quicker as she looked back up at Discord.

“Mirror, can you make a mirror?” she stayed still as he snapped his fingers and produced a tall elegant mirror. Slowly she tucked her legs underneath herself and rose for the first time as an alicorn. Her wings stretched out and she shook her mane from her eyes. She stared at herself in wonderment. Was this who she was suppose to be? Was this why she had never felt right in the world. She saw Discord’s reflection as his hand came to rest on her shoulder.

“I’m an alicorn?”

“Yes”
“How is that possible?”

Discord touched her horn carefully and smiled at her in the mirror, “because you were meant to be one my dear. Magic called to you and shaped you as we fell from one land to the next. You are beautiful.”

Nova turned from the mirror and looked at him, “we’re in Equestria?”
“Yes”, said a voice from the entrance to the hallway. Celestia stepped forth with Luna beside her. “Welcome home Nova. Although, welcoming you into the battle our world is about to begin feels wrong and I am sorry for that.”

“Sister,” said Luna quietly as she pressed herself into Celestia’s side, “I’m sure the young one understands from Discord what has happened her. Nova, are you able to help us? You need to accept this responsibility of your own free will. Neither my sister or I will have you engage in the coming combat if you are not prepared and giving of your own accord.”

Nova slowly walked to the Alicorn sisters. She started on shaky legs but by the fourth and fifth step she was able to walk in this form as if it had been hers all along. As she moved a trail of stardust seemed to fall around her.

Looking the sisters in the eyes she was able to say, “ I have had Discord to guide me, although it has only been for a short time, he has been able to give me this history of your land for the past four years. Discord created a story with visually moving talking pictures that the people of that world watched. I was able to learn and grow with the pictures. I I have seen the adventures and what happened here in the past, both good and bad.

When I agree I need you to understand that I do so of my own free will, and based on what I know of this world from before and from being her myself in this story. I want to fight. I want to avenge the elements. I want to help rid this land of such evil. I want you all to be safe again. Yes, I will help. I will give you all that I am and all that I will be to help give you back your home.”

Celestia smiled and nodded to Nova. “Oh my dear child, your strength and bravery are matched by your honesty, loyalty, and kindness.I can not wait to see what you are capable of.”

Nova watched as Celestia’s horn began to glow, dimly at first it became brighter and brighter. Slowly Celestia lowered her horn to Nova and touched her at the base of her horn. Nova’s horn flared to life matching the glow from Celestia.

Luna bent her horn and brought it down to sit on Nova’s as well. Her horn lit a brilliant dark blue and as the three lights mixed together a wind began to swirl around them. Suddenly a beam of light white in the center changing to purple,blue,pink,orange,and yellow burst from where the horns touched. It wrapped around the alicorns and then poured back into Nova. Both Celestia and Luna backed away as the light flowed down into Nova. She lifted her face to look at Discord and all he could see was power.

The princesses had freed her true powers. She was finally who she was destined to be. For better or worse her powers were fully her own.
