After Discord's defeat, the girls decided on a celebratory sleepover at Pinkie Pie's place.
This left Twilight's house empty and peaceful for the night.....at least for a little while.
"Do you think everything is ready?" Night Light asked as he finished setting up the last of the snacks.
"Looks good to me!" Twilight Velvet said as she finished setting up the extra chairs she brought in. "Are the snacks done?"
Night set the last plate of cheese and crackers down on the coffee table. "All set to be eaten!" He looked at the clock. "And just in time too. They should be here any minute!"
And just like that, the doorbell rang. Velvet quickly rushed to answer it. Opening the door revealed two middle aged adults in old-fashioned clothing and stern looks on their faces.
"Surely thy name is not but Twilight Velvet. I am called Igneous Rock Pie, son of Feldspar Granite Pie." The man said with a slight bow. He was tall with brown skin wearing a simple tie, button up shirt with pants. When he removed his hat in greeting, it revealed that aside from his sideburns, he was nearly bald.
His wife introduced herself next. "Thou shalt know me as Cloudy Quartz." she said with a slight curtsey. Her greyish-opal hair was tied up in a neat bun. Like her husband, she was dressed simply in a while button-up blouse with a black lace topping with a broach and a long black skirt. She also had half-moon glasses.
Velvet simply blinked at their old-word style of talking and manners. But before she could say anything.
"Aww come on Iggy, I think your scarin' the poor lady with your funny talkin'!"
The couple parted to reveal an elderly woman with grey-white hair. She walked up and introduced herself.
"Name's Granny Smith. Mighty fine thanks to ya for invitin' us all here tonight." She gave Velvet's hand a good shake.
Velvet smiled at them. "Well it's so good to meet you too! I'm so glad you were able to make it! Come on in and have a seat! Snacks are all ready!"
Granny Smith perked up at the mention of snacks. "Well don't mind if I do!" With that, she went in.
Igneous gave one last bow before entering. "May providence favor thee well, and we give thanks to thee for inviting us into thou dwelling space."
Velvet just smiled nervously at that. "uh...Thanks. And may providence favor you too?" She said as they entered and took their seats.
Velvet sighed, maybe this was going to harder than she thought.
She looked out and saw two more couples approaching. The first pair to reach her were both smiling enthusiastically.
"Hi there! My names Windy Whistles!"
"And I'm Bow Hothoof!"
"And we're the parents of the one and only Rainbow Dash!" The woman finished, and they both grinned wildly, which Velvet eagerly returned.
"It's so good to meet you! I'm Twilight Velvet, mother of THE Twilight Sparkle. That studmuffin back there's my husband-her father. Come on in!"
The couple went in eagerly and Velvet was just about to close the door when-
"Um, excuse us."
Startled, Velvet look out and saw another couple wearing shy smiles at her.
"Oh I'm so sorry! I just didn't hear you approach!"
"We get that a lot." The man said quietly.
The shy couple introduced themselves and Velvet invited them in.
Now I see where Fluttershy gets it.
Then she saw the final couple approaching.
"Hey there! How are ya doin'? I'm Cookie Crumbles and this is Hondo Flanks. Thank you so much for havin' us over!" Cookie greeted.
"Nice to meet you too! Have a seat and we can get started."
Now that everyone had arrived, the meeting could begin. They quickly introduced themselves and said who their children are.
"Oh! You're Pinkie's parents? How are the girls doing?" Cookie asked.
"She and her companions were faring well when we left to pick up Granny Smith. Our eldest, Limestonia Deirdre Pie, is watching over them for the evening." Igneous replied.
"Now that that's settled...."Velvet stated as she stood in the center of the room. Everyone was seated except for Night, who stood a little out of the way. "...your probably all wondering why I invited you all here. You see, we all have something in common: our children are heroes, to say the least. Which means their lives, and ours in turn, have become slightly erratic. So after the Discord...incident, I organized-"
Night gave a light cough, causing Velvet to roll her eyes.
"...my husband helped organize this meaning. Which was still my idea!" She jabbed quickly before addressing the others. "So I thought it would be great idea if we got together to help each other deal with all the new changes. You know, talk about our worries, fears, or even just to complain about our kids! So...anyone want to say anything?" She opened the floor for discussion.
The room remained silent for a minute and Velvet became worried until......
"Ah got a question!" Granny Smith asked. "I'm only a grandparent to my Applejack now. Her own folks are....gone." She looked away in sadness for a moment. "Are ya'll sure it's alright for me to be here?"
"Of course! You're still raising Applejack and her siblings. This meeting isn't exclusive to just parents!" Velvet reassured her.
The room went silent again.
Maybe this wasn't such a good ideas. I wouldn't blame them if they didn't want any more meetings after this.
Then, to the surprise of everyone, Mrs. Shy spoke up.
"Umm...so you said this is where we could talk about...our kids? Like, how becoming an element has affected them and us?"
"Yup!"
Mrs. Shy gulped before continuing. "Well...I just want to say that this has all been very...unnerving for my husband and me."
Mr. Shy nodded. "It's true. Just the though of our daughter going up against something like Discord again gives me nightmares. It's also been so confusing, since neither of us has any magic ourselves."
"Really?" Cookie asked. "Neither of you?"
Mrs. Shy shook her head. "Nope, even our son is a normie. It's just Fluttershy. We were quite surprised when her magic appeared. And...I wonder if she ever feels lonely because of it. I mean....neither of us really understand when she's talking about spells or mana...."
Mr. Shy picked up. "...we worry if we're not enough for her."
Velvet gave them a comforting smile. "Trust me, as a normie woman with a mage husband and children, you realize you don't need magic to help your children or understand them." She put a finger to her chin in thought. "...Then again, I've grown up around all sorts of weird stuff, so I'm probably just used to it by now."
Granny Smith spoke up next. "Don't you worry none. My family ain't of magical blood neither. When my son was about to become a father, he was worried he wouldn't be good enough for his kids if they ended up being mages. You see Buttercup, his wife, was a mage from one of those so-called 'pureblood' families, so the odds of them having mages was pretty high. You know what happened? They turned out just fine! Even if only the girls got the magic, Bright Mac and Buttercup loved their kids all the same and they always knew how to help them."
"T'is true." Igneous added. "Out of all our girls, only Pinkamina was born with magic in her veins, though neither Cloudy nor myself possess it. Not even her twin sister has the power."
"We have always considered it a gift from the Gods, and have given thanks to them ever since." Cloudy finished.
"Trust me, teenage problems are the same whether you have magic or not." Hondo said, chuckling.
Thus the metaphorical ice was broken and soon all the adults were chatting and laughing as they exchanged stories about their kids.
Velevent went over and stood by her husband, who smiled and put his arm around her.
"Nice work sweetie. I knew you could make this work."
Velvet smiled, maybe there would be more meetings after all.
"So.....anyone anyone interesting in barrel diving off of Neighagra falls?"
