Chapter 9: A Night of Romance - Pinkie and Sonata

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Pinkie drove as Sonata sat and sang along to the radio. Sonata had her license but preferred to be the passenger because she could sing and bop along to the music. Pinkie loved to do the same but relented most times because seeing Sonata happy made her happy. Besides; Sonata did the majority of the house work so it more than even out. Also after all these years, Sonata's voice had improved drastically. Not as good as it had been when she possessed the magical gem stone but close enough. And honestly, could anyone sing naturally as well as they could with a magic gem stone?

Both girls still had their dyed hair: Pinkie - pink and Sonata - two toned blue. Each was as carefree and fun loving as always. The biggest change was in their weight. Since starting college Sonata had put on about fifteen pounds while Pinkie had amassed a little more than twenty-five in extra weight. While neither was the whip thin girl she had been but it made no difference to them. In fact the extra weight gave each an extra softness that made cuddling all that much more enjoyable.

The music stopped for a commercial break and Sonata took a deep, contented sigh. Despite everyone breaking apart at the party and things getting pretty heavy, being with Pinkie, singing made her feel happy and alive. She turned to Pinkie and asked wistfully, "So do you really want to go home and have sex?"

Pinkie shrugged. "I mean we do that twice a day regardless. Once in the morning when we wake up and then when we go to sleep so, I mean it's gonna happen anyways. No need to rush it. Why? You wanna do something else?"

Sonata looked out the passenger side window and thought for a second. She then turned to Pinkie, full of excitement, grinning almost maniacally. "The beach!"

"What?" Pinkie asked confused. It was 9:30 at night; the beach would be closed by now (not to mention they didn't have their swim suits).

"The beach, the one where I first realized I loved you. Let's go there! We can pull up, turn the radio up, and dance in the headlights. What else do we have to do? Eat ice cream while watching a movie? Play board games? Video games? Crafts? We do that all the time. C'mon. It'll be fun! And I know you love to dance."

Pinkie thought for only a second before enthusiastically saying, "Yes! Why not. Especially after that downer of a party. Sheesh. I told Apple Jack to let me plan it; but NOOOOOOOOOOOO! - she had to do it herself. Yeah, have a party but don't let the queen of parties plan it. Hmph."

"Well their loss is our gain."

Pinkie turned back and drove down to the beach. Every mile closer the more excited they became. This was the beach where Sonata took Pinkie to try and cheer her up after Pinkie had become aware of her dark side. They fought, they laughed, and they fell in love even if neither could admit that day. This was their sacred place; their holy place.

It was about ten when the pulled up as far as they could. Pinkie put the high beams on and cranked the radio as loud as it would go and the two got out and started dancing. It was the dance of two people in love, still young and full of energy, as yet not dulled by time. No apprehension, no worries about consequences, no aches or pains which time inevitably brought. Not just the dance of love but of youth; a youth that even now was quickly running out. Time was no one's friend but if viewed properly; time could be a great motivator. A friendly reminder that eventually all things end so it's best to enjoy things while you can; enjoy each other while you can.

The two danced for hours, danced until their legs ached, danced `til they were covered in sweat and their clothes clung to their bodies. They faced danced, slow danced, talked, joked, and laughed during the commercials. At last the perfect song came on to end the evening - The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel. They took each other into their arms and swayed in the car lights; not noticing anything put each other's eyes which they gazed in as if the secrets of eternity were held within (and to those who have ever been truly in love that, indeed the secrets of eternity are always in your lover's eyes).

As the last strains of the song played out, the two just stood there, looking at each other, unable to move, in able to even think, tears streaming down their cheeks. Finally Pinkie was able to speak.

"I love you Sonnapie," she said softly.

"I love you too Pinata," Sonata replied just as softly.

They then got back in their car, this time with Sonata behind the wheel, drove back home and made love.
