Tales From a Padded Kingdom
Chapter Two: Paper Gaze

Paper Gaze walked steadily down the steps of the stone stairs, a lantern swaying slightly in his gray muzzle, lighting the path in front of him. His silver mane was combed neatly back and remained unwavering as he continued forth into the darkness. His nerdish glasses reflected the light of the lantern and the end of the staircase which led to two oak doors. A unicorn guard stood vigilant and watched the earth pony come down the steps.
Paper Gaze stopped, his tail swaying slightly in anticipation in front of the guard, causing his white diaper to crinkle beneath his cloak.
The guard seemed curious, his silver armor shining in the lantern light and diaper crinkling as well. “Must’ve taken a lot of convincing to get the necessary clearance to even approach the steps.”
The earth pony nodded.
“So what is the reason for your visit?”
“Magic research.”
The guard bursted into laughter. He put a hoof to his chest as to help him catch his breath. Paper nervously readjusted his glasses.
“I apologize,” the guard spoke with a smirk, “it’s just such a surprise to hear that from an earth pony.”
Paper stood silent. The guard gave him one more inspective gaze before lighting his horn and opening the doors. “Please, be careful with the books in there. Many of them are very old.”
He nodded once again before trotting forward into the dark space. “And one more thing.” Paper turned around to heed the guard.
The guard looked at him with a stern gaze. “Don’t touch any of the books with red bookmarks.” Suddenly, his stern expression became more teasing. “Have fun!” The doors quickly slammed shut, causing the earth pony to wince, his ears folding back, however, he slowly brought his head towards the towering bookshelves and old tables.
No light made its way into the ancient archives say for that of the lantern. Most of these books were sensitive to sunlight, which was the reason for the near constant darkness. The bookshelves looked menacingly overhead, fading away as the darkness of the celling engulfed them. Several of the books were kept in rather good condition, but a few of them were covered in small tatters. Those tended to be the ones with the red bookmarks.
“Alright,” he spoke to himself, “now where is it...”
He began to scour the bookshelves, his hoof running along the shelves edges. He would move from the bottom shelf to the top, searching for that single book—the one that would answer his yearning question. It seemed to elude him for a time. It felt as if every shelf he examined was trying to test his patience.
Paper Gaze climbed up the another ladder to reach one of the higher shelves. Climbing the ladder was proving a tad difficult with his large and cushy padding, but it didn’t stop him. His lantern covered the books in a soft orange hue, revealing their spines and titles. His eyes gazed over them with a sense of boredom, nearly missing the book he was looking for. He was lucky to have even spotted it. When his eyes saw the title he jumped a little with excitement, his hooves shooting up in celebration before he quickly wrapped them around the ladder once again. Falling would not have been recommended at his height.
He nearly took it on the spot, but noticed the red bookmark placed within its pages. At the sight of it, he felt downtrodden. He would never know it’s secrets, unless he convinced her majesty to give him express permission to open it’s contents, something he deemed unlikely. However, a simple thought struck him, one with only two words. “Take it.” He was tempted to. It was right there—in reach—ready to be read! How could he not take it? Despite the guard’s warning and his conscience telling him not to take the book, he grabbed it in haste and brought it close to his chest, it’s hard backing pressing against his gray coat. He descended the ladder with caution, careful as to not damage such an article of priceless knowledge.
Paper Gaze found a table and laid the book upon the flat wooden surface. He checked his diaper to see if it was wet. “Just a dribble,” he noted. He sat down at the table and stared at the book. His eyes were brimming with curiosity as his hoof twitched, daring to simply throw open the book. He moved it slowly towards the cover, and brought it to a ready position. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. He thrusted open the book.
A torrent of wind erupted from the books worn pages, along with a mass of blinding light. A piercing scream reached his ears as...
Paper Gaze shut the book with a large bang as the pages slammed into one another. His hair was completely disheveled and his glasses were made crooked. He prodded them back into their usual position as a shaky exhale escaped his muzzle.
He turned to leave, he sat up and began to trot quickly to the door.
That piercing scream reached his ears as the book, once again, bursted open. He turned around in fright, his brown eyes widening.
A ghostly unicorn mare emerged from the pages of the book, it’s fore-hoof claws like those of a dragon, it’s teeth like that of a serpents, and it’s eyes like that of the grim reaper. It spoke with a smooth wail, causing his ears to fold to the back of his head, once again, despite the sounds undertone of comfort. He could even feel his tail tuck between his legs as a prominent hiss filled the room. “My little pony,” she said, “why did you open me?”
His diapered swelled with urine, something the book took note of and enjoyed. Paper Gaze could not speak nor breath. He could not make any kind of response. His throat would not lessen it’s grip upon his voice. He stared at it dumbfounded.
“Should I wait for you to finish or...”
He looked back at his diaper as it continued to whisk away his urine, his face turning red at his apparent weakness in front of the creature. The padding began to feel heavy, far heavier than it should have. His rear legs began to buckle.
“Oh, you should know that little foals like yourself can’t stand until your older. You’re too weak and frail.”
He felt it grow heavier and heavier until his legs give out beneath him. He landed on his padded rear, an audible squish coming from it. His diaper felt like a ton of bricks! He looked back to her and was finally able to speak.
“Wh...Wh-o are you?” he asked.
The book gave a maniacal laugh. It’s presence filling his soul with dread. He could hear the hissing intensify in fright as his diaper swelled further and gave a prominent yellow tint.
“I am Queen Regalia of the Padded Kingdom!” It shouted. “And I have returned to you, my little ponies!”
Paper Gaze recognized the name. It was ancient.
The book also saw the recognition twinkle in his eyes. “So you do know of me.”
He nodded.
“Then you should rejoice!” It wailed in glee once again.
Paper Gaze could feel his tail hike at the sound of it’s screeching as a large load of manure entered into the still swelling padding. He could feel his face scrunch up as he continued to try and converse as best he could.
“Queen Regalia!” He shouted. It looked to him with piqued intrigue. “Do you know a way to cure our incontinence?”
It laughed with a decrepit voice, the smoothness that it’s usual tone carried being replaced with a disgustingly scratchy sound. “Cure you? Why, my little pony, you are just perfect the way you are. Weak and dependent upon your queen for love and attention.”
It’s clawed hooves rose as a finger beckoned him forward. He felt himself slowly float off the ground and towards the creature’s cold eyes and sharp teeth. He could feel the mess in the back of his diaper bulge and the swelling of his padding increase evermore. It’s jagged mouth opened wide. The back of it’s throat like a bright and hypnotic light. His eyes were lured to it as his mind left him. He could focus on nothing but the light.
“Come,” it spoke, “let me kiss you.”
The creature’s mouth opened wider as Paper Gaze approached ever closer. He could feel his body go limp.
It’s eyes widened in terror as it let out one more piercing cry before it was drawn back into the book and an armored hoof closed it with a thud.
Paper Gaze fell back to the floor, his messy diaper squishing on the brick floor and causing him to cringe. His focus returned to him as he looked up to the guard. That same guard that had stood vigilant at the entrance of the library. The hissing still continued as he felt a few droplets of urine hit the floor, the padding well saturated before it finally stopped.
“I’m sure her majesty would love to see you now so you can explain what happened,” he spoke with that stern tone. He looked at the gray earth pony with an absolutely used diaper, wild mane, and crooked glasses with frustration.
Paper Gaze felt his stomach droop. He was not going to enjoy this one bit.
