I Love Work

Chapter 1/ Prologue/ How it happened

Hi, my name is Jason Gold.  I have been working at my job for seven years now.  I am the tech guy for a accounting office.  There is nothing special at all about me, I work, get yelled at, talk with accountants, get yelled at some more, then I go home.  I live in a small apartment building, across from the office.  After work I don’t have much of a life.  I have some friends, but I rarely see them.  They all have large houses, are successful, have a wife, kids, the whole nine yards.  Me, well… I have a laptop (supplied by my company), a bed and a large understanding of computer coding.  You may be wondering what accounting has to do with computer skills.  Well, not much, and that's why I make so little.  I don’t work, unless someone has computer problems, or they just want a cup of coffee.  So, now that you know a little bit about me, let's get started with the story.

It was a normal day for me, I wake up, attend to personal needs, and walk to work.  At work nothing happened, except when the flash drive of my boss failed.  I fixed it and explained to him that he need to be more careful, he laughed, turned his back, and walked out.  In the time when I'm not needed, I code.  It's just what I do, I have to pass the time somehow.  So, I write all sorts of programs, solve problems, and sometimes mess with the others in the office.  Around noon, I take a lunch break, then at 12:30 I get back to work.  This time I didn’t want to do what I usually do though, so I went on the internet.  It is monitored, but I don’t need to worry because I'm the one who monitors it.  I only go onto the internet to do three things, check my email, go to EQD to get my pony fix (yes, I am one of those bronies), and go to YouTube to watch My Little Pony; Friendship is Magic.  This time I was so bored, I started just searching things.  First I searched for job openings in my area, there were none.  So, I went back to pony stuff, I wasn’t sure what to do, Season three hadn't yet started, and I had watched every episode multiple times.  I started thinking about other websites that were pony related, I came up with a blank, I had never looked at any other sites.  I figured the best place to start would be Equistria.com, simple, and the land of all ponies.  The website was just another link site by a host site.  I thought maybe I could make that website,  I bought the domain name, and got to work.  I checked the clock, 1:20 I still had over four hours until I could go home.  I started coding, first with HTML, then CSS, then PHP and finally JavaScript.  Man if only I could find a job like this, I would make a killing.  I had made other websites before, but sold them to pay for bills.  It was done.  I checked the clock once more, 2:45, I had made nice time.  I was just about to click the submit button, when someone walked in.  I quickly switched to the IP monitor tab, to make it look like I was working.  The person behind me sighed, then asked if I would like something, I said I was fine.  Whoever it was walked out closing the door behind them.  I went back to my website, clicked the submit and immediately felt dizzy, I tried to stand up, I couldn't.  I felt suddenly sleepy, and fell face first into my keyboard.  I woke up to somebody shaking me, I could still feel the keys on my face, indicating that I was still on my keyboard.  I pulled my head up suddenly, hitting someone else's head, I blacked out, the last thing I remembered was a scream of pain presumably from whoever was shaking me from behind.
