Henry is a teenage orphan boy who is a junior advisor in training to the ruler of the kingdom of Berk, King Stephen Haddock. He has very little to no memories of who he was, being raised most of his life in a local orphanage before he was brought to the castle.

One day, he and his assistant, Astrid Hofferson were given the assignment to overlook preparations for the Summer Soltisce Festival in the village of Berkton. There, Henry sparks friendships with cowboy Ritchie Iverson, young pilot prodigy Tobias Nelson, fashion designer Violet Gardner, huntress Cosette Henderson, and pyrotechnician Felix Bryson.

However, the festivities were interrupted by a threat from long ago, wanting vengeance on Stephen and his wife, Queen Valerie. Henry and his new friends must journey to find the spirits of the Guardian Dragons, the protectors of Berk, whose light magic is the only thing that can defeat this dark magic. And Henry might discover the truth about his past.
