The Apple family are known throughout the whole of Equestria for many reasons.
The first and most obvious reason being their various varieties of succulent apples.
Secondly, it was home to not one but two of Equestria's greatest heroes and Elements of Harmony, Applejack and Rainbowdash.
Finally, the aforementioned mares were the first Lespony couple to naturally conceive children. Using a technique almost no-one knew about until that day. The day everything was revealed. The day everything changed.
It was a cold spring afternoon in the rural town of Ponyville. Winter's chill had not quite left the air.
School had just let out for the day and the streets were full of the voices and laughter of many fillies and colts. Most walked with their parents or friends. Many walked with their siblings. Others walked alone.
On the outskirts of Ponyville lay an orchard. A large archway adorned the entrance; entwined with climbing ivy and roses.
Hanging in this archway was an old wooden sign engraved with a single apple. This had been made by Applejack's father before his untimely death many moons ago.
A well-trodden dirt path lead from the entrance of the farm to the door of the bright red farmhouse. The faint, sweet smell of apple pie wafted through the fields and orchards on the premise.
Applejack stood at the sink doing the day's washing up. She wore a pale pink apron. While pink was certainly not her colour Rarity had made it especially for her and it was functional. Annoyingly enough.
The farmhouse door creaked open as Applejack's daughter Zap Apple trotted inside. She took her school saddle bad, which was undoubtedly filled with books and the like, in her teeth and set it down on the kitchen table.
Zap Apple, occasionally referred to by her friends and family as Zap, was a cyan Pegasus with a mane every colour of the rainbow. She looked a lot like her other mother, Rainbowdash, and it was quite easy to mix them up- as many ponies often did.
The most noticeable differences being their eye colour (Zap Apple’s were green) and their cutie marks (Zap Apple's was as her name suggested a zap apple).
"Ma, can ah ask yer somethink," said Zap Apple blushing slightly. She had already picked up the Apple family drawl and that made it rather difficult for other ponies to understand her.
It was just the other day a particularly rude unicorn mare, who had been visiting from Manehatten, had accused her of being a witch of all things. The unicorn insisted she was speaking in a strange foreign language.
"Sure hun," answered Applejack returning to her washing up, completely oblivious to her daughter's blushing face. "What is it?"
"Well, we had sex-ed in school today... began Zap Apple. She promptly jumped out of her skin as Applejack dropped the plate she was drying on the floor. It shattered into a dozen pieces.
"Oh no! Ah, am really sorry 'bout that dear. Ah just weren't expecting that is all," said Applejack retrieving a battered broomstick that was leaning against the wall.
Carefully, she began sweeping up the ceramic shards taking care to not cut herself. She would need to buy a new plate at the market tomorrow. Oh well, she had been meaning to get some new ones for a while now.
"So what do you wanna know?" her voice slightly muffled by the broomstick handle in her mouth.
"Well Mrs Cherilee told us only a mare and a stallion could naturally have kids," her tone became quite serious. "Ma am ah adopted? Ah asked Mrs Cherrilee an' she said that was probably it,"
Applejack gave a deep sigh. “Ah guess yer old enough to know now. Can yer go get ya big brother while ah go grab Rainbow. Meet me in the front room," shouted Applejack as she cantered outside.
"What about the plate?" called Zap Apple but her mother was too far away to hear.
Shrugging Zap apple trotted upstairs to her elder brother’s room and stood outside the door.
"Lightning Blitz ma wants to talk to us downstairs. Come on!"
Do I have to? I'm busy!" Zap Apple knew this was a lie. Lightning graduated advanced school last year and was messing around a bit before joining the weather force. He was probably just fapping again.
She shuddered trying to force that memory out of her head. Why did she have to walk in on him? Celestia only knew!
She silently played he wouldn't be doing that again and burst into his room. She stumbled slightly: the room was pitch black. She pulled open the blue curtains and let some light into the room.
Her brother, who was in bed even though it was already the afternoon, hissed at the sudden intrusion of light. He actually hissed like an agitated bat pony.
"Who said you could come in here!" shouted Lightning.
"Me!" replied Zap Apple biting her brother's ear and pulling him out of bed. Half pulling and half leading him she dragged him to the door.
"Ow! Ow! Ow! Leggo of my ear!"
*Outside*
"Rainbowdash come here this instant!" shouted Applejack at the top of her lungs. Which anyone who ever talked to her knows is pretty darn loud.
A few seconds later something appeared in the sky. Some would claim it to be a comet or a shooting star. However, Applejack knew exactly what it was. Rainbowdash.
She plummeted down to the earth at record speed and landed with a crash that could be heard from miles around. Afterwards she merely rolled over stood up and dusted herself off as if nothing had happened.
"Yes dear?" said Rainbow casually.
"Our kids wanna know how they were conceived,"
"HORSEAPPLES!" said Rainbow her head in her hooves. "This is going to be really awkward,"
And it was
Very awkward.
Very, very awkward.
So awkward I almost don't want to tell you what happened but...
...I'm weird so I will.
To be continued.

This is a random idea I came up with. I'm aiming to get the next chapter up by the 15th of April as long as school doesn't interfere. Any criticism is welcome as well as corrections. Just leave a comment
Zap Apple and Lightning Blitz sat on the soft, brown sofa in the front room of the farmhouse. The sofa was the kind indescribable to those who had not previously basked in its glory. Sure it was old, faded and missing a few dozen springs but it was great. Okay!
Zap Apple was starting to fidget already- even though it had only been a few minutes. She had never been the patient type. Meanwhile, Lightning nursed his minor injury with a look of boredom in his eyes only a teenager could have.
They could hear the faint voices of their mothers through the walls.
"What do we tell them?" said presumably Rainbowdash.
"The truth," The pony who said this was certainly Applejack. Her southern accent was unmistakable.
"All of it?"
"Yep,"
"but that's really personal,"
"They deserve to know,"
"Why did you have to tell them? Couldn't you have just lied?"
"Rainbow ye know Ah don't lie,"
"Urrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhh!" Rainbowdash let out a deep guttural groan.
"Shhhhhhh" they might hear us cried Applejack; completely oblivious that every word they said was seeping through the generation-old walls that were plastered with teal paint.
Mere seconds later they trotted into the room as if nothing had happened. This was a bad habit of theirs; acting like everything was fine when it clearly wasn't.
"Well... um..." began Rainbow "When a mommy pony and a daddy pony love each other very much-" she then let out a cry. Applejack had hit her over the back of the head.
"They already know that stuff ya doofus. They wanna know what happened with us. Let me handle this,"
"Did you have to hit me?"
"Shut up Rainbow!"
She turned to her foals and spoke with a voice sweet like honey. "Now ye both know the story of how we started dating, right?"
Zap Apple and Lightning Blitz nodded. "Of course we do," answered Lightning ever the grumpy teenager. "Ye tell us this story every five minutes," Now this wasn't quite true. It wasn't every five minutes more like once or twice a day- more at family gatherings.
In their defence, it was a very good story: if a bit cliche.
It all started one damp Friday afternoon. Rainbowdash had just finished flight practice for the day and was returning home.
Her coltfriend, Soarin, was on leave with a supposed case of the feather flu. Mysteriously, Fleetfoot was also nowhere to be found. Could this be connected? No thought Rainbow shaking the thought out of her mind.
She stepped inside. There was a strange feeling in the air. She heard a quiet noise. A strange noise. Almost like the sound of snow under hooves. It was probably nothing.
It hadn't crossed her mind this sound was the sound of a cloud mattress.
"Soarin I'm home. I've brought some soup," shouted Rainbow up the stairs the flask she was holding in her mouth muffling her words slightly "Have you been taking your medicine? I don't want your moult on the bed,"
Yet, Soarin didn't answer. Maybe he was asleep. She really needed to make sure he'd remembered to take his medication. The excessive moulting the feather flu caused could be very painful.
She trotted into the kitchen and poured the soup from the flask into a blue mug. Mugs were the go-to container for earth ponies and pegasi because they were easier to hold with hooves or wings.
Walking upstairs she opened the door to her bedroom. She dropped the mug. What she saw shocked her to her very core. Burned into her eyes was the image of her coltfriend cheating on her. With Fleetfoot.
She couldn't believe it. Her coltfriend was a dirty goddamn cheater. She was more offended than angry. Fleetfoot wasn't even that pretty, clever or gifted at flying. How long had this been going on? She didn't know and she didn't care.
Instead of asking, she did what she did best. She flew away. She went to the one pony she felt would care. Applejack.
Applejack certainly wasn't expecting a crying Rainbowdash to turn up at her door. She certainly didn't expect her hooves to be spiked with ceramic shards that caused her to bleed.
It was then Rainbowdash spoke up "I should have just dated you, to begin with,"
And the world was never the same again.
Author's Note
Shameless Rainbow x AJ. I'm not sorry.
To be honest, its all pretty awkward
"Well," continued Applejack "It was maybe half a year after we got married an' well, we couldn't find an orphanage that would let us adopt- "
"Cuz they were all fucking bigots,"
"Rainbow, watch yer language!" she snapped "but yeah," she said turning back to her foals. "They were,"
"So you bucked a stallion," said Lightning.
"What? No! Huh? Why would you say that?" stuttered Rainbow.
"Was it Big Mac?"
"Urrrrrrrrgh! What the buck dude?"
"Lighting, if ye keep interrupting ah ain't gonna tell yer," said Applejack her voice as cool as a winter morning.
"Shut up Lightning!" shouted Zap Apple, smothering her brother in an attempt to silence him "Ah wanna know!"
Grumbling, Lightning inched away from his sister and silenced himself.
"Good lad," assured Applejack with a smile.
"So we went to our close friend Twilight," continued Applejack.
"Do you mean Auntie Twily?!" exclaimed Zap Apple grinning fondly.
This was going to get awkward thought Rainbow privately.
And it did.
Wait I already used that ending...
Hmmmm.
Oh well.
