DJ Candy was alive.
Her headphones blasting music into her ears, her hands dancing across the records, her green eyes glinting in the flashing strobe light... this was heaven.
Candy had done some shows for her friends before, but never ever EVER like this! This, this was completely different. Instead of having a few friends cheering her on, she had a crowd of hundreds, maybe even thousands, all there to see one thing: Her.
After her friends had asked her to make a debut album, she'd brought in more money than she'd known what do do with! She'd bought a new house, new turntables, new equipment; she could afford almost everything! Soon after, the pressures to go on tour had eventually won over her, and she's purchased a tour bus and set off.
She'd never really figured out where to do her concert. She had been stuck between the Royal City, King Roland's Palace, or her own dance club on Sunshine Beach. Eventually, she had just driven around and decided on the biggest town she came across.
Her opening song ended and she flipped a switch that set the short transition song on loop, with the volume low.
"So how are you guys doing?" she called, to be immediately answered by a raucous cheer. "Well, that's good to hear! This is the first real 'concert' I've ever done, so I have to thank you guys for your support! You're an awesome audience!" Another cheer erupted from the crowd. "So how would you guys like to hear the fastest song I have?"
At this, another cheer came up from the crowd, and Candy began another song. It was a short song, only about two minutes long. But it was upbeat, alive, and energizing, and kept her hands busy on the turntable for the entirety of it..
She paused to catch her breath before turning on a slow, four minute song while she grabbed some water from underneath the turntables. She had no idea this would be so tiring. Her arms were already sore, and she was only three songs into a nine song set. She set the water back down and grabbed an energy drink. She went bottoms up with it and set it back down. Once the song was over, she wiped some sweat from her brow and turned to the audience again.
"So, I was wondering," she shouted, panting and thoroughly exhausted, yet enjoying herself. "Would you guys like to hear a little experiment of mine?" This was met with even more enthusiasm than her original greeting. "Well, then I guess you get to hear it!" She finished, and immediately set to work on the turntables again.
She flipped a switch to start a custom light show she'd made; a light show that had taken her three hours to finish due to a lack of prior experience in programming. As the lights dimmed to a dark blue, she started the record. The sound was almost inaudible at first, seeing as all it was was a flute playing quietly in the background. But the flute began to get louder, and was joined by a synthesizer. This was greeted with a purple, sporadically "throbbing" light. Shortly after, a drum kicked in on the downbeat, immediately followed by a series of small, quiet plucks on a muted electric guitar. Here, a pale green strobe started up in unison with the plucking, causing the movements of both DJ Candy and the crowd to look choppy and uneven.
After about thirty or so second so plucking, the guitar was un-muted, and the plucks grew in volume, along with the flute the drums, and the synthesizer. The light were now all on strobe, the sporadically timed darkness coinciding perfectly with both the sound and the light. The sound was near deafening, and getting higher and higher in pitch by the second. Suddenly, the sound halted and the snare drum was hit once. Within a fraction of a second, The sound, which was still ringing in people's ears from before, dropped to a note low and loud enough to shake the ground.
Suddenly, DJ Candy disappeared. There was no one at the turntables, no one adding a bit of flourish to the sound; it was just a track playing for a big crowd of people. No one knew what happened. A few witnesses said that she looked like she fizzled up and dispersed, but no one could figure out anything else. No one knew where Candy went, and no one knows why she suddenly reappeared in the same exact spot two years later.
The truth of what happened lies only in the memories of DJ Candy herself.
Right when the sound shook the ground, all she saw was a bright blue light. Her entire body felt like it was submerged in the bubbly carbonation that happens when you pour a soft drink. The blue light soon became interlaced with ivory, scarlet, and silver. DJ Candy was less scared than amazed; it was one of the most beautiful things she'd ever seen.
Suddenly, the light dissipated and she could feel herself falling. Her plane-flying instincts kicking in, she turned so she was facing the ground to slow herself down. Immediately, she could tell she was on another planet, or an alternate universe, or something like that. First of all, the colors were a bit brighter than they were in her world. Secondly, nothing was three-dimensional. Sure, there was depth to things, but it was less like 3D and more like 2D in layers.
She was getting closer to the ground now, and desperately needed to slow her fall; she had already reached terminal velocity. She scanned the area and spotted a small town close by, and positioned herself to glide towards it. She was, however, going too fast. She din't have enough time to glide farther into the town, but ended up smashing through the wall of a building on the outskirts of town.
The last thing she saw before passing out was an equine face with red eyes and blue hair.
