Chapters Vinyl was hard at work in her bedroom when Octavia showed up. "What are you doing with that screwdriver?" she asked.
Vinyl looked up. "Just working on my headphones." she replied.
Octavia tilted her head to the side. "Exactly WHAT are you doing?" she asked.
Vinyl laughed. "I'm increasing the output of the sound. As soon as this thing's done, I'll be able to listen to music at a whopping 3,000 decibels of sound!" she said.
Octavia, used to Vinyl's mishaps and silliness, assumed that Vinyl was strongly exaggerating. At the same time, Octavia was certain that it wouldn't be worth the trouble to interfere with Vinyl's business. Therefore, she decided to let it be.
"All right." said Octavia as she walked out of the room. But what she didn't know was that Vinyl wasn't playing games. She actually WAS attempting to make her headphones strong enough to play sound at 3,000 decibels of sound, and she had no regrets of doing it. Only later would her first regrets begin to surface. But I guess mistakes are made to be learned from, right?
Several hours passed, and it was time for dinner. Octavia stood downstairs with food in one hoof as she sat down at the dining table. She sat the food down and prepared to dine when she realized that Vinyl wasn't down yet. Knowing Vinyl, Octavia was certain that the only reason Vinyl could be late for dinner could be trouble. Octavia looked upward.
"VINYL!" she called. "Are you coming down to eat or not?"
To her surprise, her reply came not from upstairs, but from the doorway into the room. Vinyl jumped in wearing her headphones and called, "RIGHT HERE!"
Vinyl adjusted her headphones and set her IPod to play "Running In The 90s". Immediately, Octavia was knocked to the floor by the blast of sound! All the windows shattered, and the doors broke free from their hinges! Chunks of the ceiling broke free and fell to the floor!
When Octavia woke up, she shook her head and began to stand up. The room was a complete mess. Vinyl was laying down on the ground, her headphones broken. Octavia ran over to help her best friend.
"Are you okay!?" Octavia shouted.
Vinyl's eyes began to open. Octavia wiped the sweat from her forehead, realizing that Vinyl was unharmed. Or so she thought. "I'm glad you're okay, Vinyl." said Octavia.
Vinyl didn't answer.
Octavia was confused. Usually, Vinyl would immediately respond to anything Octavia would say to her.
"Excuse me?" asked Vinyl.
"I said I was happy you were okay." said Octavia.
"SAY THAT AGAIN PLEASE!" yelled Vinyl.
"I SAID I WAS HAPPY TO SEE YOU OKAY!!!" shouted Octavia.
"WHAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!??" shouted Vinyl.
It was official now. Vinyl needed to take a trip to the doctor.
Princess Twilight Sparkle was working in her science lab when she heard a knock on her palace's doors. She quickly sent Spike to answer the door and bring her guests to her. Soon afterward, Spike walked in with Octavia Melody and Vinyl Scratch.
"What brings you here today?" Twilight asked.
"You see," said Octavia, "Vinyl's eardrums are down."
"That sounds bad." said Twilight, worried. "Is there anything I can do to help?"
"That's why we're here." replied Octavia. "We think you can help us. You see, Vinyl had an idea that you could shrink me so I could go inside her and fix the problem at source!"
Twilight raised an eyebrow. "That's a pretty crazy idea." she said. "But I assume you've thought it all through, being the good ponies you are."
Octavia nodded. "I'm ready to do anything for my best friend."
Twilight nodded and quickly picked up a book of magic spells. She looked through and finally came across a shrinking spell.
"Hold your horses, girls! Get it? Horses?" said Twilight as she charged up her horn.
Nopony laughed at her horrible joke.
Then, a charge from Twilight's horn shot into the air and hit Octavia. Octavia could feel her body getting smaller and smaller as she shrunk down to the size of a vitamin pill. To finish her part of the job, Twilight lifted Octavia into Vinyl's ear using her magic.
Now came Octavia's part of the job: find Vinyl's eardrums and fix them.
Of course, it didn't take long before Octavia reached the end of Vinyl's ear canal and found the eardrum. Octavia found that Nurse Redheart was more than correct about the damage done to the eardrum; there was a giant crack that went across the functional surface of it. Octavia began to try to think of a way to repair the damage. Octavia thought for a second, and then an idea flashed through her brain. She just happened to know that down in Vinyl's lower body was an extra bone that had grown into her due to a defect at birth. Vinyl didn't need this bone at all; its cartilage would be a perfect material to seal the eardrum crack with!
Now a new problem arose. The unneeded bone grew just above Vinyl's pelvis; getting down there would be difficult.
Octavia found herself in a room in the center of which was Vinyl's stomach. Octavia walked along the room in hopes to find another set of stairs leading downward when she slipped on some slime on the ground (this WAS inside a pony's body, you know). She plunged face first into Vinyl's stomach.
Meanwhile outside, Vinyl quickly lunged back, covered her belly with two hooves, and let out an "OOF!!!!"
"What's the matter?" asked Twilight. "You were acting like something punched you in the stomach."
Vinyl looked at Twilight. "Could you speak up?" she asked. "I didn't hear a word of that."
"Never mind, I forgot your ears were down." replied Twilight.
Octavia got up on her hooves, worried she'd damaged Vinyl's stomach. She slowly backed away from it, and the dent she put in it slowly vanished, something like how a stress ball reforms itself. Vinyl's stomach seemed okay.
Octavia wiped the sweat (and the slime) from her forehead, fixed her bow tie, and began searching around the room some more. Eventually, she found the exit and began to head on her way. But little did she know, she was being followed.
The same two white blood cells from before had realized that they had been tricked and were now on their way to catch her. The second Octavia left the stomach room, the two cells entered it.
"Where do you think she went?" one of the cells asked the other.
"Probably downstairs. She's headed for the intestines. We can catch her there, because I happen to know a little trick in that room!" replied the other.
Octavia walked into the room containing the pelvis. She looked above it, and sure enough, there was the unneeded bone. She climbed up the pelvis and began to dig into the cartilage from the unneeded bone's end. With her hoof, she scooped out a big hoof full of soft, flexible cartilage. "This will do!" she said. She carried the glob of cartilage with her back upstairs. But when she got into the intestine room again, she found two white blood cells standing at the doorway waiting for her. "We've been waiting for you." they said. One of them grabbed her by the arm. "We don't like intruders." one of them said. "We tried to capture you in a creative way, but now we've decided to just use good old fashioned police brutality."
"I'm not an intruder!!" Octavia protested. "I'm Vinyl's best friend, and I'm here to help her!"
"I'd believe you," said one of the cells, "but that would mess up the plot of this fan fiction."
Octavia wasted no time lifting one of the cells into the air and throwing him to the ground. Then, she punched several teeth out of the other cell's mouth in short order.
"How are you so strong!?" one of the downed cells shouted.
"Why did you wait until just now to beat us up!?" the other one asked.
"It's SIMPLE!" said Octavia. "I have stood the ultimate test."
"What? Did you do something like, maybe, fight a shark?" asked one of the cells.
"No. MUCH WORSE." said Octavia.
"Did you eat 3000 consecutive Chipotle burritos!?" asked the other cell.
"EVEN WORSE THAN THAT." replied Octavia.
"THEN WHAT DID YOU DO TO BECOME SO POWERFUL!?" asked both cells together.
Octavia fixed her bow tie before answering.
"I HAVE BEEN ROOMMATES WITH A DJ FOR MOST OF MY LIFE!"
The two cells fainted. Octavia trotted on with the glob of cartilage in her arms.
Octavia walked up to Vinyl's eardrum with the glob of cartilage in her arms. She smeared it over the crack and began to smoothen it out. she spread it all evenly around the eardrum's surface until it covered the eardrum evenly and smoothly.
Meanwhile outside, Vinyl was on the brink of giving up on Octavia when it happened. The constant soft static that had been filling her ears for hours suddenly stopped. What followed afterward was sound. Pure, clear sound. A tremendous smile slowly began to spread across Vinyl's face as she realized what was happening. Her eardrums were working again! Octavia stuck her head out of Vinyl's ear and gave Twilight the signal to lift her out and grow her back to normal size, and that's just what Twilight proceeded to do. When Octavia was back to her usual size, Vinyl proceeded to hug Octavia harder than she'd ever hugged her before. Octavia was startled by this choice of action, but soon joined in on the hug.
"Thanks, Octavia." said Vinyl through genuinely smiling lips.
"You're welcome. It's just what best friends are for." replied Octavia.
Twilight wrote a letter to Celestia about the good deed she'd helped Octavia and Vinyl do. "Thank you two for helping me learn more about the magic of friendship." she said.
As Octavia and Vinyl walked outside of Twilight's palace, Octavia turned to face Vinyl. "I hope you've learned yourself a lesson." she said.
"I sure have." said Vinyl. "From now on, I should play my music at 99999999999999999 decibels!"
Octavia's eyes widened in shock.
"I'm just kidding, 'Tavi!" said Vinyl.
They laughed and shared a hug before walking home together in the light of the sunset.
The Truth Is Seen (But Not Heard)
Vinyl was taken to the hospital.
"Open wide!" said Nurse Redheart as she held a popsicle stick in her hoof.
Vinyl's eyebrow raised. "What did you say?" she asked? "I couldn't quite hear you."
Nurse Redheart appeared to know exactly what to do after that. She quickly grabbed Vinyl's right ear and took a peek into it. "Aha!" she exclaimed. "There's a problem with her eardrums!"
Octavia looked her in the eyes. "And what's the problem?" she asked.
"Her eardrums are BROKEN!" said Nurse Redheart. "There's a big crack that goes straight down the middle of the surface of it!"
Octavia didn't know what to think. Would Vinyl never be able to hear again? What to do? Octavia wrote it down on a sheet of paper so Vinyl could see what had happened. As soon as Vinyl saw Octavia's words, she burst into tears. "How will I ever be able to listen to my wubs again!? What kind of a DJ could I be!!!?" she asked herself aloud. All Octavia and Redheart could do was feel sorry for her.
Octavia and Vinyl went home, both saddened. Vinyl, in hopes to cheer herself up, decided she'd try reading some fan fiction on FiMFiction. She set up her laptop and began looking for a good story. Then, she came across "A Small Issue" by Lukington17.
The story gave her a brilliant idea. An idea that could possibly restore her eardrums.
Vinyl burst into Octavia's room. "I've got a plan!!!!" she said.
Octavia mouthed her answer to Vinyl show she could read her lips: "What's your plan?"
Vinyl spoke very eagerly. "I read a story on FiMFiction in which Twilight Sparkle gets to go inside Rainbow Dash; what if that's actually possible!? You could go inside me and fix my eardrums!! Then everything will be like it never even happened!"
It was a crazy idea, as Octavia knew, but it was an idea. And Octavia was willing to do anything it took to help her best friend.
"Okay." said Octavia. "But first, how will we get me down to size? I'm far too big to fit inside your head, you know!"
"I know." said Vinyl. "Maybe the Princess of Friendship can cast a spell that'll shrink you down to size!"
And that's what they decided to try.
Octavia looked around and finally found a stairway leading downward. She walked into it, and when she came out on the other end, she found herself in a large room full of bones. Above the doorway she had just entered the room from was a sign marked "RIB CAGE: TOP FLOOR". In the center of the room was Vinyl's heart, and every time it would beat, a musical note played.
"Well, this IS Vinyl." said Octavia to herself.
She walked through the room, carefully around the heart, looking for another doorway to go further downstairs. When she found it, however, she noticed that there were two ponies standing with weapons in their hands to guard it. The two guarding ponies were completely white in appearance; no mane, no tail, just a snow-white coat.
White blood cells, Octavia thought.
She walked to the door, and the two white blood cells raised their weapons. "Who are you?" one of them asked.
"I am Octavia Melody." Octavia responded. "Vinyl's best friend."
"Prove it." one of the white blood cells demanded.
"Why?" Octavia asked.
"Because I said so." replied the cell.
Octavia began to get clever. She could tell that these cells obviously didn't have a lot of brains, reflecting the pony they worked inside.
"You don't need to know who I am." said Octavia.
"We don't need to know who you are." said one of the white blood cells, the other one nodding in agreement.
"These aren't the droids you're looking for." said Octavia just for fun.
"These aren't the droids we're looking for, even though I don't see any droids here whatsoever." said one of the cells.
"I can go about my business." said Octavia.
"You can go about your business." said one cell.
"Allow me to move along." said Octavia.
"Move along." said a cell, opening the door to another set of stairs leading downward.
Octavia grinned as she walked downstairs. "They fell for it faster than a drunk Canterlot stallion," said Octavia to herself.
Octavia walked into the intestine room. There were red, slimy cords criss-crossing the room, and Octavia could hardly tell where the path through the room was. She navigated her way through the intestine room, without realizing she was being watched.
The two white blood cells sat on one of the tubes above Octavia. One of the cells smiled. "Here's the plan." he said. "We take one of these germ samples I found in the Germ Prison, and let it eat away at this intruder!" He held up a little green bug-like thing in a plastic bag.
The cell quickly opened the bag and the germ fell out. It tumbled down to where Octavia stood, and gave her a scare.
"Who are you?" asked Octavia.
The germ's response was quite simple indeed. It let its teeth do the talking, and took a small bite of the hair in Octavia's mane.
"Your hair tastes delicious!" blurted out the germ. "Imagine how good your FLESH will taste!!"
Octavia wasted no time letting her legs carry her as fast as they possibly could. She found herself at the end of the room in about 1.4 seconds. The germ, who couldn't keep up with Octavia's adrenaline, began to remember that it was inside a pony to infect. The germ bit down on one of Vinyl's intestine tubes.
Outside, Vinyl suddenly held her lower belly and let out a loud "YOW!!!!"
Twilight noticed, and being the genius she is, she immediately knew what was happening. "Looks like a case of the Iamtoolazytothinkofaname Germ. Fortunately, I have a cure." she said.
Meanwhile inside Vinyl, the two white blood cells were worried. "I should have thought this through!!!" said one of them. "OF COURSE the germ would go after Vinyl's body! I shouldn't have let a germ loose in here!"
The other white blood cell couldn't stop smiling. "Remember that time you told me you'd get promoted and I would never?" he asked. "Well, I don't think Vinyl's brain is gonna be too happy at you for letting a germ loose like this!"
"Shut up." said the first cell. "You were in on this, too."
Meanwhile, however, Vinyl was just drinking the cure to the germ's infection. The instant she swallowed the cure, the germ suddenly dropped dead.
One white blood cell smirked at the other. "See? I totally just killed that germ." he said.
"I didn't see you kill him. Looks to me like he just died." said the other.
"You didn't see me do it because I.....uh....." said the first cell, "I used The Force from Star Wars on it! Yeah! That's what I did!"
"Dork." said the other.
