Soon after Big Macintosh and Sugar Belle became an official couple, the stallion was pleased to hear that he wasn't the only one in the Apple Family to find somepony special. It seemed that his cousin Braeburn, who had came out of the stable a while back, had found himself a much-older stallion in Ponyville. Mac was a little surprised when he learned it was his Father's old friend Burnt Oak, but he was still happy for the two nonetheless. In fact, he was willing to keep their relationship a secret when they asked for his confidentiality, and hadn't even told Sugar about the two.

Unfortunately, it seemed that Mac's acceptance wasn't quite enough for the unique couple. And when Braeburn visited Ponyville for some "side-work" on Burnt Oak's property, the two decided that Mac should be offered a chance to... assist them with their private work. Even though the stallion was in a happy relationship of his own, his cousin didn't want to take no for an answer. Especially when he knew exactly what Mister Oak could provide for both of the Apple cousins...
