Chapter 20: A Meal to Remember

Earth – Morning at the Campsite

The next morning, the sun rose over the quiet, abandoned lot where the gang had parked for the night. The world was still broken, still dangerous, but for now, it was peaceful.

Inside the six-person camping trailer, the warm scent of cooking food filled the air.

Sam stood over a makeshift stove, carefully flipping pan-seared potatoes alongside some perfectly seasoned eggs.

Behind him, Pops was humming a country tune, casually heating up a can of beef and potato dog food over a small propane burner.

Dan, wearing a ridiculous apron that read “Kiss the Chef”, was completely focused on the five-star meal he was preparing for Trixie—an absolute masterpiece of fresh fruits, toasted grains, and a delicately crafted vegetable salad that looked like something out of a high-end restaurant.

Trixie, still half-asleep, sniffed the air and muttered, "That smells… divine…"

Dan smirked. "Only the best for my little pony."

Trixie blinked awake. "W-WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME?!"

Dan chuckled. "Nothin’, babe."

Trixie groaned, burying her face in a pillow.

Meanwhile, Starlight sat at the small dining table, watching Sam work.

“You know,” she said, smirking, “I never took you for a cook.”

Sam flipped a perfect golden-brown potato slice. “Survival’s all about skill. And I just happen to be damn good at breakfast.”

Starlight chuckled. “Alright, Gordon Ramsay, let’s see if it tastes as good as it smells.”

Breakfast Fit for a Queen

When Sam finished cooking, he placed the perfectly prepared meal in front of Starlight.

Pan-seared potatoes, fluffy eggs, and perfectly crisp toast.

She blinked. “This looks… amazing.”

Sam smirked. “Only the best for you.”

Starlight’s heart skipped a beat. She picked up her fork, took a bite—

And her eyes widened.

“Oh sweet Celestia,” she moaned. “This is incredible.”

Sam leaned back, arms crossed, looking smug. “Told ya.”

Meanwhile, Pops took a bite of his beef and potato dog food, grunting in approval. “Y’all can have your fancy crap. This is real food.”

Sam sighed. “Pops, I will never understand you.”

Pops shrugged, grinning. “And that’s what makes me fun.”

On the other side of the table, Dan presented his masterpiece to Trixie.

A gourmet vegetarian breakfast, perfectly plated, with delicate seasoning and an elegant presentation.

Trixie stared at it. “You… made this? For me?”

Dan winked. “Damn right I did.”

Trixie hesitated, then took a bite—

And her eyes went wide.

She slowly put down her fork. “Dan…”

Dan smirked. “Yeah?”

Trixie swallowed, then blushed deeply. “I…hate to admit this… but you might actually be… kind of… amazing.”

Dan grinned. “Knew you’d come around, babe.”

Trixie groaned, covering her face. “I take it back.”

Starlight laughed. “Face it, Trix. You’re stuck with him now.”

Trixie grumbled into her hooves. “Why is he actually charming?!”

Dan, smug as ever, took a sip of freshly brewed tea and leaned back. “Because, babe, I’m just that good.”

Back on the Road

After finishing their unexpectedly fantastic breakfast, the gang packed up their supplies and loaded back into the RV.

Pops took the wheel, humming to himself as he started driving. “Alright, next stop—whatever hellhole is between us and Savannah.”

Sam checked the map. “Looks like the next city is… Hinesville.”

Dan, loading a fresh clip into his rifle, smirked. “Think it’ll have another nightmare monster waiting for us?”

Starlight sighed. “Knowing our luck? Probably.”

Trixie, leaning back in her seat, muttered, “At least let me digest my perfect meal before I have to run for my life again.”

Sam smirked, giving Starlight a sideways glance. “You do have good taste.”

Starlight rolled her eyes, but she smiled.

The RV rumbled forward, leaving the quiet morning behind as they headed toward whatever horrors awaited them next.

The world was still broken.

But for now, at least, they had each other.

Meanwhile, in Equestria…

The enchanted mirror flickered, showing the ponies in Twilight’s castle everything.

Rainbow Dash crossed her hooves. “Okay, but why is Dan actually smooth?!”

Rarity, swooning, gasped, “DID YOU SEE THAT MEAL?! He’s a gentlecolt!”

Applejack chuckled. “Trixie’s got it bad.”

Fluttershy wiped a happy tear. “I just love that they’re taking care of each other…”

Twilight, furiously taking notes, muttered, “Sam cooked for Starlight. That’s basically a love confession.”

Celestia just smiled. “They are adapting… changing.”

Pinkie grinned. “I hope there’s more romance soon!”

The mirror shimmered, showing the RV heading toward Hinesville.

And something was waiting for them.
