After a strange portal to another world appears in the Everfree Forest Twilight and her friends went to investigate it in the hopes of finding answers. However; three months later Princess Celestia was told that Twilight and her friends hadn't returned from the other world. Celestia quickly contacts Shining Armor and sends out Royal guards to find friends that Twilight and her friends know. They are Tempest Shadow, Sky Stinger, Thunderlane, Vapor Trail, and Balburn with Shining as the leader of the team and sent on the mission to find Twilight and her friends and bring them home.

Meanwhile on the island of Mata Nui in the village of Ta-Koral a matron named Takua nicknamed the Chronicler was messing around with a warning totem in the lava break. But when he drops it into lava he discovers a shocking surprise as totem was actually a Great Kannoi Mask called the Mask of Light. And puts an ancient prophecy of the coming of a 7th Toa a Toa of Light who will defeat the evil Makuta's shadowy grip on the island and awaken the Great Spirit Mata Nui from his enternal slumber into motion. But danger awakens as Makuta and with now corrupted by Makuta's evil influence and powers Twilight and her friends who have turned to the dark side unleashes Rakshi upon the island to take the Mask of Light from Takua and his best friend Jala who are searching for the 7th Toa!

When Shining and his team arrive on Mata Nui they must find Jala and Takua and help them find the 7th Toa and reunite the Toa Nuva who had forgotten about how they need each other especially Tahu to defeat the Rakshi and free the island from Makuta's grip and save Twilight and her friends. Can Shining find the courage to be a leader and lead his team to free his little sister and her friends from Makuta's influence and bring them back into the light?

Takes place during Season 8 of MLPFiM.
