The answer, the horn and the Dah
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI had to admit, it felt nice waking up to six beautiful girls or in this case, mares. Soft and warm bodies that are covered in a light fur, the occasional feathers lightly tickling my skin. It all felt nice in a way. Nicer still was watching them getting dressed as they put on a show for me. Even Rarity put some effort in as she decided to make her clothes materialise on a spare chair before dressing up sexily.
Even as I placed my clothing/armour on, I could tell their gaze was transfixed on me.
Once again, we thanked the Vigilants for their hospitality before they pleasantly surprised us. They had given us a new horse to replace the one I've previously lost due to the bandit raid.
We made our way back to where I've left my cart which was still there in one piece near the Shadowed Grove. Once the new horse was attached to the cart, we climbed on and made our way back to Whiterun as we'd need to pass there anyway so it was a good time to resupply.
Once finished at Whiterun, we started what felt like a familiar path to my house but making just a slight alteration on our path until we finally arrived at Riverwood. As we pulled up to the Sleeping Giant inn Twilight spoke up.
"Doesn't look like the type of building to have an attic let alone a room in an attic", she pondered for a bit, "Maybe the message was a code or something".
Once the horse was carefully tied up, the girls and I head into the inn.
There weren't many people in there as we walked up to the owner who was behind the bar. I've met her a few time during my occasional passes through Riverwood, her name's Delphine. I thought about what Twilight said and made a small bet in my head that asking for a room that didn't exist would make our horn holder appear. "Hi we'd like to rent the attic room please," I asked politely.
Delphine looked at me and my group, "Attic room, eh? Well... we don't have an attic room, but you can have the one on the left. It might be a bit cramped in there for all seven of you but please, make yourselves at home."
The girls and I headed to the indicated room, sure enough it was rather cramped with us seven in here.
We didn't wait long as Delphine entered the room. "So you're the Dragonborn I've been hearing so much about. I think you're looking for this. We need to talk. Follow me. Alone". She handed me the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller.
I placed the horn in my backpack safely before motioning to the girls. "I know you have your reasons but, You can trust my companions. If they don't come then there'll be no talk".
Delphine sighed, "fine, since the Dragonborn trusts you six then that has enough merit in it. come, we haven't got time to waste".
We followed her into the room across from where we are.
In my expertise of staying at inns, it's the owner's own personal room.
Once inside Delphine asked us to close the door behind us. Once closed, she opened the cupboard before opening a secret door inside of it. "follow".
We followed her to a subterranean room.
There was one question that was on my mind. "You're the one who took the horn?" I asked.
Delphine nodded, "Surprised? I guess I'm getting pretty good at my harmless innkeeper act."
"What's with all the cloak and dagger?" I asked.
"You can't be too careful. Thalmor spies are everywhere" came the reply.
I nodded knowing how they were like. Personally I've never met one but there were several stories about them. I could ask several questions but there was one that stuck out. "Why are you looking for a Dragonborn?". This was a good question as I could use it to determine what she was after.
"We remember what most don't - that the Dragonborn is the ultimate dragonslayer. You're the only one that can kill a dragon permanently by devouring its soul. Can you do it? Can you devour a dragon's soul?" Delphine replied with a question of her own.
I nodded as I thought back to the moment I first met the girls, the very first dragon fight we had and the sensation of absorbing its soul. "Yes, that's how I first learned I was Dragonborn. But the remaining question is. what is it that you know that we don't?".
Delphine replied, "Dragons aren't just coming back, they're coming back to life. They weren't gone somewhere for all these years. They were dead, killed off centuries ago by my predecessors. Now something's happening to bring them back to life. And I need you to help me stop it."
This was serious, Skyrim hasn't dealt with Dragons for a long time and in this day and age, they weren't prepared to deal with something long thought extinct. "So where are we headed?" I asked.
"Kynsgrove. There's an ancient dragon burial near there. If we can get there before it happens, maybe we'll learn how to stop it." Delphine replied.
We agreed to help her as we might learn something ourselves. We left the room so Delphine could change as we agreed to meet her there. Outside, the girls and I sat in the cart as we looked at the map to find out where Kynsgrove is. I thought back to the Greybeards, would returning the horn to them help me to fight a dragon?.
Twilight must've sensed my thoughts, "you know, Rainbow could fly you back to the Greybeards to return the horn and I can cast a spell so you two can find us".
I looked at her, "you sure?" I asked. She nodded as I felt Rainbow picking me up. "We won't be long," I said as I saw Applejack sitting at the front of the cart before taking the reins.
Rainbow was fast, real fast as it took a minute or two for her to fly us to the monastery.
Once inside, Arngeir greeted us before graciously receiving the horn from me. "Ah! You've retrieved the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Well done. You have now passed all the trials. Come with me. It is time for us to recognize you fully as Dragonborn. He took me to where I learned the word Ro. You are ready to learn the final word of Unrelenting Force, Dah, which means Push" as Wulfgar made some more words appear on the floor, Once I've absorbed the words, Arngeir said "With all three words together, this Shout is much more powerful. Use it wisely. Master Wulfgar will now gift you with his knowledge of Dah".
Once I've absorbed the knowledge from Wulfgar, Arngeir continued speaking. "You have completed your training, Dragonborn. We would Speak to you. Stand between us, and prepare yourself. Few can withstand the unbridled Voice of the Greybeards. But you are ready".
Knowing how dangerous their voices could be, I asked Rainbow to stay where she was as I stepped between the Greybeards.
They all spoke in unison, "Lingrah krosis saraan Strundu'ul, voth nid balaan klov praan nau. Naal Thu'umu, mu ofan nii nu, Dovahkiin, naal suleyk do Kaan, naal suleyk do Shor, ahrk naal suleyk do Atmorasewuth. Meyz nu Ysmir, Dovahsebrom. Dahmaan daar rok".
Arngeir then spoke, "Dovahkiin. You have tasted the Voice of the Greybeards, and passed through unscathed. High Hrothgar is open to you".
I thanked them before Rainbow and I exited the monastery. Rainbow picked me up and almost instinctively, started flying in one direction and within minutes, we reunited with the girls.
They had gone south of the Throat of the world and travelled past the two Skybound watches and had just gotten close to Pinepeak cavern when we found them.
Naturally, the girls asked what has transpired as I told then what went down. I could tell Twilight was a little disappointed as she didn't get to hear the Greybeards speak but she kept her mind straight as she helped us to plan for what we might encounter at Kynsgrove.
