Dr. Spike is the local doctor in Canterlot, he is also a scientist in the search of a new world, but he is also doing that for his father, who is at the dragon lands suffering from a mental disease; the doctor comes up with a solution that'll solve the problems of the ponies forever, unfortunately, his idea gets rejected and he is left heartbroken...

After that, some deaths start occurring in Canterlot, which is followed by the doctor's strange behavior and affection towards his work rather than his friends.

What will Spike do to stop these deaths? How is his work connected to the carnage on Canterlot? Will he stay in conditions for his upcoming wedding?

All the characters are older, including Rarity and some other characters that might appear, including Spike and Sweetie Belle.
If you couldn't already tell, there will be some Spikebelle moments in this story.
Sex tag for sexual themed situations and implied sex, there won't be anything explicit.
Rated Mature just to be sure.

1. Doctor Spike's father.

The doctor's worries.

Our story begins in the Dragon lands, with a worried looking Doctor Spike and his confident friend, the unicorn lawyer named checklight, both of them were at a hospital at the dragon lands because Doctor Spike's father was in trouble, apparently, the father of Doctor Spike had a trouble with his greed, making him unstable, he was out of control until his mind shut off, staying in a state of comma for now.

But first, let me tell you a very short version of the Dorctor's story; he was raised by a unicorn named Twilight Sparkle in Canterlot during his childhood, he met a lot of ponies there, most of them didn't trust the doctor because dragons were known to be reckless and impulsive, but with time, Spike proved them wrong by being a true gentlecolt to everypony.

Ever since he was a baby dragon, Spike wanted to help everypony, he admired the ponies who saved other ponies like the super heroes in the comics he read, but when he grew up a little, he realised that the super powers were not exactly real, so he looked for some other way to help the helpless; after all, the helper seeks to help because he knows what is like to be helpless.

And that's how he ended up being both a doctor and a scientist, he became a doctor to help the ones in need and a scientist to find alternative ways to make the world a better place for every creature, he cared for the ponies, dragons, griffons, yaks and every other creature in the planet.

But he knew that it wasn't going to be easy, after all, there is always some kind of problem among the creatures of Equestria, wars, political issues and many more, but he knew that maybe he could make a difference, after all, he was a dragon raised among ponies; the political relation between dragons and ponies was good, but it had its troubles, and Spike wanted to correct that somehow.

Eventually, his path led him here, with a male unicorn he met since he was a child along with him in a hospital in the dragon lands, the dragons weren't exactly advanced in technology, and that made it more difficult for Spike to find the cure. The lawyer was worried for his friend, his father was lost in his own darkened mind, and Spike wanted to pull him out whatever it takes.

"Spike, I know he is your father, but we've been here for nearly two hours, don't you think that maybe we should go now?" Said the stallion, Spike looked away from his parent to look into the lawyer's eyes.

"You go, I'll stay here, I can't leave him, Checklight, even if I was raised by Twilight, he's been for me whenever I needed him" Replied Spike with sadness. "I still remember the day when he wanted to take me back to the dragon lands to raise me."

"Spike, I heard about that too, it was the first time a dragon negotiated with ponies in a formal way and without shouting, he was onto you like a lion on its prey." Chuckled Checklight.

"Heh, I guess he did, he has a strong spirit, doesn't he?"

"Yes, he was also the finest dragon I've ever seen."

"Hey, what's that supposed to mean?" Replied Spike in a happier tune, both of them laughed for a couple of seconds before frowning again. "Another reason why I must find the cure."

"But you won't find the cure here, I'm suggesting that we go and rest before finding the cure." Said his friend.

"I know I won't find the answer here, but I don't want to leave him, you should go to our usual place, I'll catch you there in 20 minutes, I just have to think about this with him by my side." Said Spike, looking back to his father in the bed.

"Fine, but don't be late like you always are." Said the lawyer, trying to light the mood.

"Yes, whatever." Said Spike, not looking away, he didn't even see his friend leave.

"I wonder what is like, to be lost in the darkness like you are right now, father." Spike thought. "The darkness must surround you, there must be no light in there, please, if by any chance someone is hearing this, help him, I promise that I won't ever leave you, father, no matter what it takes or how hard I must work I'll find the answer, until the day I die, I will work for you and only you"

"Sweet dreams, father." Said Spike to his father before leaving the room sadly.

After a while, Spike was in the streets of Canterlot again, this time with a sad smile on his face, he looked around him, he had made a name for himself, the ponies always gave him curious looks, the new ones obviously, because the ones that lived in Canterlot for a while knew Spike very well, they knew he was there to help and nothing less.

Still, even if Spike lived in Canterlot for his whole life, he didn't 'adore' it, he knew the types of ponies in Canterlot, most of them being greedy bastards who don't care about nopony other than themselves, he knew quite a few actually; prince Blueblood, lord Neighsay, the bishop of Hoofopolis and many more, but he didn't demonstrate it, he always put on the disguise of the good doctor who was a pushover, but he wasn't like that at all .

But the good doctor always knew what to say to please everypony and keep himself happy in the process, but there was a point where the ponies didn't 'tolerate' him, he was a little bit too "straight forward" with his ideals, but he didn't care. He had a good life after all, he had a good looking and honest fiancee, good friends behind him and his own house with a laboratory inside one of the rooms, life was going very well for the dragon...

Until later, that is...
