Diamond crown was not a happy colt, this was true both in general but especially right now.
“It's not nearly as big as our old house in manehatten.” He commented, his lips curling into a scowl.
His father sighed and placed a weary hoof against his forehead. “This was the largest house available in Ponyville. You have three rooms to yourself what more could you want?”
The colt tossed aside his wavey pink mane and huffed. “Our last house had four. Why couldn't we have stayed there?”
Filthy rich folded up his newspaper and set it aside. “You know very well why we couldn't stay at the last house. The company needs me here in Ponyville, their store is about to go under and they need me to whip them back into shape.”
“Who cares about some backwater town’s dumb store? It was probably going to go bankrupt sooner or later. I mean there are like, how many ponies living here, twelve?” The colt scoffed, while he continued to pace in front of his new house.
His father pushed his lounging chair back in a sitting position and fixed his young son with a plaintive gaze. “Look son, I know you don't like it here but think of all the new opportunities available to you. It's a completely clean slate.”
The colt spun around and glared at his father. “I don't want a clean slate, I want manehatten.”
The elder earth pony rubbed his forehead, already feeling a headache coming on. “Well we can't go back there. So why don't you take this chance and maybe make a friend or two this time huh?” and maybe not get suspended a week into school. He thought bitterly.

The colt sneered. “I will not stand here and get lectured about friends by somepony who doesn't have any.” Diamond Crown stomped off, leaving his father alone and disappointed.
“What am I going to do with you?” The stallion muttered to the empty room.

His father nodded sagely. “Looks like it. Me and your mother were going to drop off a pie she made to welcome them to the neighborhood, why don't you want to come with us?”

“And if you don't, than nothing breaks the ice quite like free pie.”
The three ponies chuckled as they made their way up the long winding path that began from the road all the way up to their new neighbors house. The trail was exceptionally long, showing off all the colorful flowers, elegant sculptures and well manicured grass in front of the large house. Drawing a few impressed whistles from the older ponies as they walked along the path.
“Wow, they really must be rich, most of this stuff wasn't here last week.” Silver Spoon pointed out.
“Yeah, I wonder what the parents do, they must be loaded.” His father quipped.
“Well either way, be on your best behavior.” His mother remarked.
The colt huffed. “Why do you keep saying that?”
“Oh I’m sorry honey, I was talking about your father.”
His mother elbowed his father and together the three chuckled as they reached the door.
“I’ll get it!” Silver Spoon offered, already running up to the door, intent on using the ornate brass knocker.
The colt eagerly knocked on the aged oak door, the heavy clang of the knocker echoing throughout the house. Silver Spoon stepped back and eagerly waited for his new neighbor to answer the door, only to quickly grow bored and turn around. “Are they home? They didn't leave did they?”
The old stallion’s face scrunched up and he leaned to the side, peeking into a nearby window. “Doesn't look like it, there are still lights on in side.”

The colt spun around just in time to catch the frowning face of a small pinkish colt who scowled briefly at them before slamming the door in their faces. Leaving three rather confused ponies standing on the step and exchanging confused glances.
“Was it something I said?” Silver Spoon’s mother asked.

“Maybe this isn't the best time, honey?”
“Yes, maybe we should come back another time.”
Silver Spoon pouted. “But we just got here. Why can't we try again?”
The older stallion hummed thoughtfully. “I suppose knocking one last time couldn't hurt.”
“Right.” The colt spun around and raised his hoof to knock only to find the door opening the second his hoof touched the wood.
The sight of a middle ages earth pony stallion with a long slicked back black mane, a tan coat and a wide, kind smile greeted them. “Hello there, you must be the new neighbors.”

“Not at all my dear, not at all! You must excuse my son he is not pleased with the move.” The stallion said dismissively, suddenly extending his hoof in greeting. “Where are my manners? My name is Filthy Rich but you can just call me Rich or Mister Rich.”
Silver Spoon shook his hoof, unaware of the fact that it was extended towards his father. “Nice to meet you mister Rich! I’m Silver Spoon.”
The stallion blinked but recovered quickly. “Well it's nice to meet you Silver Spoon.” He pulled his hoof back only to give it a few shakes. “Quite the grip on this one, what in Equestria are you feeding him?”
Silver Spoon’s parents chuckled. “Nothing out of the ordinary.” His mother commented.
“Well except that extraordinary vegetable chili you make.” His father pointed out, drawing a chuckle from mister Rich and a small blush from his wife.
“Oh and you brought a pie! That wouldn't happen to be for us by chance, would it?” Mister Rich asked, gesturing to the pie balanced on the mare’s back.
“Yes, of course! Nothing quite says welcome to the neighborhood like fresh baked goods.”
Silver Spoon hoofed over his mother’s pie and smiled as mister Rich inhaled a deep lungful of the still steaming pastry. “Wow. Now that brings me back. Is that pumpkin with a hint of cinnamon I smell?”
“Yes! It's an old family recipe, one I’m quite proud of.”
“Well than we shouldn't eat it out here, please do come inside.” The stallion took a step back and ushered the other three ponies inside.
“Well if your sure. We don't want to intrude.” Silver’s father remarked.
Filthy Rich waved a hoof dismissively. “Nonsense, it's no trouble at all. I think the sitting room is unpacked so please, follow me.”
The three ponies shared a glance before following their new neighbor. Together they walked through several long halls stacked with boxes upon boxes of stuff, before entering a large room with massive bay windows overlooking a sloping backyard that although opulent, obviously had not been maintained for quite a while.
“Please sit.” Filthy Rich gestured towards one of four large comfortable looking wicker chairs spread out before the window.
Silver Spoon’s parents did as suggested, falling into the expensive chairs with a relieved sigh while Filthy Rich passed the pie to a maid who disappeared into the kitchen. The adults quickly fell into a conversation of the neighborhood with Filthy Rich asking the usual gambit of questions concerning any problem neighbors, best restaurants in the area and the usual adult stuff. All of which Silver Spoon quickly grew bored of and despite his desire to put on a good face for his parents he found himself nodding off, nearly lulled to sleep by the lush chair and the boring conversation.

Filthy Rich snorted dismissively. “Don't you worry about him. Like I said he's just a little upset about the move, I’m sure he'd love to get to know you. Up the first set of stairs we passed and it's the second door on the left.”
Silver hopped off his chair. “Well if your sure.”
“Go on, I’m sure seeing a friendly face will cheer him right up.” Silver’s mother added.
Silver nodded and trotted back down the hall and after getting lost twice after he went up the wrong set of stairs he made his way to the aforementioned room. He knocked twice and took a step back and waited, strangely unsure of himself.

Eventually he frowned and knocked again. “Who is it?” asked a voice from the other side.
“It's uh, me. Silver Spoon, your new neighbour. Did you want to hang out?”

The colt rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Kinda, Diamond doesn't wanna play but the game is fun.”
“Well it's a start.” the stallion muttered under his breath. He turned to his son and waved, only to notice he was looking straight at him but was not removing his headphones. Filthy Rich motioned for his son to remove his headphones.
Diamond Crown rolled his eyes and sighed, reluctantly pulling the headphones from his ears. “What?”
“Silver Spoon’s parents and I were thinking it might be fun for you guys to have a sleepover so you two can get to know each other better and they already gave Silver permission to stay.”
“But father, he just gets in the way and plays that stupid game.” Diamond remarked snidely.
“Hey!” Silver Spoon shouted back.
“Now now you two. Think of this as a good opportunity to get to know one another. Diamond, I’m sure if you just talked to Silver you would find out he's a nice pony and maybe you could make a new friend here in Ponyville.”
Diamond Crown huffed in annoyance. “Fine, but tonight we are having pizza.”
“Sure sure, you two have fun. I’ll have supper delivered in a bit and in the meantime I’ll try and track down that cot we had tucked away somewhere.” The stallion left, closing the door behind him and leaving the two colts to awkwardly glance at one another.
“So uh, did you want to play?” Silver Spoon asked, gesturing to the second controller.
Diamond Crown huffed and put his headphones back on before rolling over. prompting Silver to shrug and go back to playing his game. In the end Silver Spoon and Filthy Rich talked while Diamond listened, chatting about the new school and if he liked living in Ponyville. All in the hopes of inspiring Diamond to join the conversation. With supper eaten and their bellies full the two colts went back to diamond’s room, going back to nearly the exact same thing they had done for most of the afternoon. Filthy Rich sighed. “I know you don't like the idea but it's really our only option without sending him home.”
“But surely there are enough blankets to make a nice spot on the floor! Or enough pillows to-”
The stallion shook his head. “We only have one extra blanket and pillow. Look I know this isn't ideal and I won't force you to hang out with someone even if I think you'd make great friends if you got to know each other. If you want me to walk Silver Spoon home, I will.”

His father’s radiant smile nearly lit up the room. “That's the spirit!”
