The war ended just as sudden as it started, roughly a month since the beginning.
And even this is mostly due to original logistics troubles with portals to Equestria: it was hard to stabilize the matter transfer, so the first squads that were sent to capture the bridgehead have been composed of regular soldiers with no air or artillery support. Even light armored vehicles couldn’t go through at first.
This gave a relative advantage to Equestrians, although it’s doubtful to call the fact that you’re running away slower than you could have an advantage.
Royal Guards were obliterated in mere days, while they couldn’t inflict any damage to the human soldiers. Not only they had only a few bows, this weapon was also too weak to pierce kevlar body armor with ceramic trauma plates. In fact, despite its brittleness, ceramics didn’t even shatter.
And assault rifles easily pierced golden and silver armor of ponies, which offered no real protection and served mostly as ceremonial clothing.
Because of high density of these metals, the armor was also really thin, which didn’t help improving protection effectiveness either.
Some Wonderbolts tried to attack from above, but soon found out that their speed is no match for a 5.56 bullet, travelling with almost triple speed of sound.
Sure, when the princesses joined the fight, it became slightly harder, because their shields were deflecting small projectiles quite effectively, but as soon as other ponies tried to shoot arrows, they were either deflected by the same shield or just stuck in the bulletproof vests, casing little to no harm.
Magic impulses offered even lower effectiveness than arrows. Only alicorn magic was powerful enough.
So this is how they fought: Celestia created a shield and Luna was standing right next to the edge of the shield, blasting soldiers with her magic. Then the roles were reversal.
But when new humans arrived, this tactics became obsolete. No matter how powerful alicorns were, they couldn’t support the shield all the time. And as soon as they lowered it, they became easy target for the snipers.
The same fate was waiting Discord as well: even a chaos spirit couldn’t monitor the mile-long radius, and from this distance a .50 cal bullet turned his head into a bloody mess.
Without Celestia and Luna, only Cadance and Twilight remained in charge. They decided to use stealth tactics and it worked for a while.
Until the aviation finally arrived.
With aerial reconnaissance, which was made using advanced life detectors and night vision, humans easily discovered and killed ponies, using, in particular, prohibited napalm and white phosphorus. A nice human invention -- a loophole in a law: since ponies weren’t human beings, they weren’t treated as persons and therefore could be killed, tortured, raped and used as slaves completely legally. The same was true for using forbidden weapon on them.
After ponies’ spirit was broken, they were forced to stop fighting. And then humans started what they called a ‘rational use of biological and non-biological resources.’
Or in short, they razed ponies’ towns, forced them to get gems, gold, silver and other precious metals.
Many ponies were brought to Earth where they were selled as exotic pets, slaves and toys, sexual and not. Some people used them as test subjects for new types of weapons, the others admired their taste as various food. Pony BBQ became particularly popular.
But not all ponies surrendered. There still was a small group of ponies, hiding from humans in deep and unknown parts of the forest. Humans didn’t go there yet, because they wanted to get resources that were easier to take. But it was only temporarily.
Remained ponies knew that they don’t have time. But they couldn’t do anything to help the others. They didn’t have power to go against human war machine.
That’s when it all happened.
Help came suddenly, after those ponies found an ancient spell book in the castle of two sisters, abandoned and which served them as a temporary shelter.
In this book, there was a spell, which allowed trans-dimensional travel.
At first, they thought that it will help them to escape to another world and take the others with them, with time. But turns out, it worked differently.
A new pony entered from the magical portal. That pony looked like a regular earth pony, but there was something different about her.
Something, that made other ponies feel safe and protected next to her, while humans felt unexplained fear when they looked at her.
Her name was Honey Bun.
And the revenge began.
She was fighting humans the second she learned about their actions. Nothing could go through her protection, no weapon could harm her.
She shrugged off any caliber, she took upon herself even anti-tank missiles and artillery strikes, destroying war machines so easy as if they were made of wet tissue paper.
Honey Bun killed all the humans that were in Equestria and went through the portal to Earth, just to find out that she’s standing in the middle of a desert.
And roughly three seconds later she was attacked by a nuclear warhead, one of the most powerful humans had -- 1.2 megatons of TNT.
Of course, it didn’t do anything to Honey Bun, because human weapon was too weak and primitive to even harm a pony, not to mention kill her.
In return, Honey Bun sent a magic blast, wiping out a hemisphere for a mere second, then another, which turned Earth into a scorched wasteland.
Ponies that were taken as slaves weren’t harmed, because Honey Bun’s magic was vastly superior to human weaklings and could turn friendly fire off.
Before going back to her world, Honey Bun, who became a hero for Equestria, told that humans can only brag about their ‘superior firepower’, but when they meet an equal enemy, all they can do is to run away and weep. Their tech was primitive and harmless for a true pony, and their world was just as pathetic.
They never possessed any threat to Honey Bun.
