Chapter 2: Garurumon And Reppamon Part 1
The kids had almost searched the entire island it felt like, for they had found no other people. They had only seen some monsters with attitude, but these monsters couldn’t stand up to their Digimon friends because their friends could turn into formidable fighters. Just like when Agumon digivolved into Greymon, and Twilight managed to slide digivolve into GeoGreymon entirely bypassing her standard digivolution line. They both kicked Shellmon to the curb; they had both been so cool working in perfect synchronicity with each other.
The kids were standing at the edge of a cliff looking out upon the sea with Tai grinning before he said, “Yo Agumon?”
Agumon walked closer to Tai as he asked, “What’s up Tai?” He was curious as to what his partner wanted to ask him.
Tai turned to him with a curious look as he said, “I like it when your Greymon. No offense but why don’t you stay that way?”
Agumon turned his head with a sigh, “I can’t.”
Tai let out a humph as he folded his arms and started out to the sea a bit grumpily, “Hmph.” Agumon turned back to him as he replied, “But even superheroes need a rest.” Agumon's words caused Tai to lose his cool as he stumbled a bit and his arms flailed around wildly as he fought to regain his balance. In fact, he nearly fell right off the cliff, and all it took was Agumon reaching out with a claw and grabbing the back of his pants to hold him steady while the rest of the kids laughed at him.
“And here I thought I would be the one falling more often,” Twilight said with a tired chuckle.
Shadow the Dracomon looked up at Twilight and shrugged, “Geeze Twilight. I thought you would have recovered by now like Agumon. What gives?”
As Twilight opened her mouth to reply, the kids all heard a loud roaring, which belonged to another big Digimon. A big gray horn broke through a rock wall behind them as they turned to face the noise and the head burst through right behind the horn. The Digimon in question appeared to be some mutated triceratops dinosaur with monochrome colored skin on his legs, head, and upper body. The rest of his body seemed to be white leathery skin.
The Digimon stomped around the area roaring for some reason and looking a bit silly. But Izzy was curious as he asked, “Who’s that Digimon?”
Tentomon being the encyclopedic wealth of knowledge he is just looked at the Digimon dismissively before turning his head to Izzy and replying, “It's a Monochromon. But don’t worry about him. He’s a laidback Digimon.”
The Monochromon, however, did not look very laid back. He seemed to be rather upset and angry about something as he faced the children and started roaring and growling again as his body trembled. It looked like he was about to charge them.
Tentomon started to look a bit uneasy as he continued, “Although it is wise to be a bit cautious with a Monochromon. They do tend to get a bit miffed when they’re hungry.”
Tai uneasily said with a bit of fear, “Then he must be starving because he looks really mad.” The Monochromon kept on stomping their way looking very menacing as they talked.
As it continued towards them and closed the distance rapidly Mimi spoke up in a scared tone, “And I think he wants to eat us!”
The monochrome stopped 6 feet away from there where it opened up its mouth and started roaring yet again. The kids were staring at it in fear as well as a couple of their Digimon partners. Tai and Agumon, however, were turning around as their ears caught the sound of something else.
While this was going on Dracomon started to growl as he punched his clawed fist into the flat palm of his other hand. He growled, “Let me at him. I’ll tear him to pieces!” He started to head for the Monochromon even though Twilight was still lying on top of his head exhausted, Though, from the heavy breathing, though he didn’t want to say anything about it, sounded like she was getting worse with every breath. He was forced to stop where he was and back up towards his partner again as he pulled her off his head and held her in his claws, “Come on Twilight. Pull yourself together.”
That’s when they heard more roaring from behind them and turned to see a second Monochromon roaring behind them. Joe gasped in shock and fear as he said, “There are two of them.”
Even Matt had lost his cool a bit when he said, “We’re caught between a rock and two sets of teeth.”
Richard glanced at the two bigger Digimon, before looking down at Twilight who didn’t look so good. He quickly leaned down to Dracomon for a moment and gently took Twilight from him, though, as Shadow held the poor mutated Digimon, Twilight glowed softly as if being held by him was slowly restoring her. After the glow stopped, Richard had a small worried frown on his face as he noticed that the pink stripe in Twilight’s hair was now a crimson red, while her fur was a slightly darker shade of purple than before.
His attention was drawn back to the Monochromon in front of the group who started to roar again before charging. This caused the group of kids to run to the side out of the way of the two big Digimon while screaming. They got to safety behind a couple of big boulders as the two big triceratopses Digimon clashed their heads against each other. Their horns locked up as they roared at each other.
The two Digimon kept on clashing with each other before moving by each other as they prepared to fight yet again. One of their tails whipped around and smashed a boulder to pieces sending chunks of rock flying. One of them knocked the other Monochromon in the face as it collapsed into shards which made it angrier.
Tai poked his head out from behind a boulder, “Something must have set those Monochromon off, “He said in wonder.
Tentomon explained what was going on in his exasperating way as he watched the fight, “They are fighting over territory.”
Palmon just watched with a bit of worry as she replied, “Well they can just have it then.” She turned and started running away towards the forest causing Mimi to turn and shout, “Hey. Don’t leave without me.” And the rest of the kids weren’t too far behind as Richard kept up with the group. Dracomon did his best to keep up as well as he glared back at the Triceratops Digimon while running.
Tai grunted while running fast, “They don’t need us hanging around.”
Shadow growled as he turned to face forward while running, “I could have taken the both of them by myself. They’re just a couple of pushovers,” he said before a stray rock managed to smack him in the head, causing him to slur his next sentence, “They’re just two fluffy burpees with aptitude.”
The one who had knocked the boulder into pieces ran and charged into the other Digimon as it cried out in pain. As they ran, poor young T.K. tripped and fell flat onto the ground. Matt stopped down next to him and knelt while he said, “T.K. Come on!”
Tai looked back at them as he stopped and said worriedly, “Better hurry up you guys.”
T.K. got back up with determination as he fiercely replied, “Alright. We’re coming.”
Matt was a little surprised by how easily T.K. got back up and continued running which left him kneeling for a few seconds in shock. The Monochromon who had rammed the other was now biting into the other Digimon's side as hard as it could. But unfortunately for the both of them, their fight caused them both to slip on the ground, and they plummeted over the edge of the cliff down to the water below. And this is what spelled their doom as it was not possible for them to swim and survive.
The kids had finally stopped running and walked down a trail as the time passed them by. Finally, it was nearing sunset as the sky started turning a deep orange. The path they were walking on had a few random stray street signs on the side of the trail as they walked along.
Mimi finally spoke up in her whiny voice, “I don’t walk this much unless I’m at a mall. And as you can see we’re nowhere near one.” She stopped by a thick-trunked tree and pressed her arm against it with her head on top. It looked like she was trying to cry as she turned her back on the rest of the group.
Tai just walked on by with a tired sigh as he replied, “Mimi quit your whining.”
Mimi’s muffled voice answered back in frustration, “No. My feet hurt!” What she hadn’t realized was that Agumon had stopped right next to her. He was looking up at her curiously wondering what she was doing.
Agumon replied calmly, “Maybe if you took off your boots and socks you’d feel better Mimi. It's much more practical I think.”
Mimi moved her face away from the tree and turned so she was facing Agumon and could answer more clearly. There was also no sign of tears on her face meaning she had just been being dramatic. She was quite a lot like one certain white coated pony that Twilight was friends with. Dracomon watched them from a distance as he scowled and shook his head, “Geeze. She’s such a drama queen. It’s so annoying to deal with.”
Twilight groaned in slight pain as her fever grew, before calling out to Mimi in a fevered daze. “R-Rarity, please stop with the dramatics, I-I don’t f-feel too good,” she said as she tried curling up into a ball even further.
Richard winced as he continued to hold her and the others looked back at him curiously. Tai asked in curiosity, “Who is Rarity? And is Twilight okay?” Richard grit his teeth as he shook his head and continued to look down at Twilight who had stopped glowing as the changes to her body had stopped a while ago. She was still hot to the touch though, so even just holding her was like holding a hot plate.
“I-I don’t know,” Richard said as he moved Twilight to the other arm, “I have no clue who this Rarity is, nor do I know what kind of Digimon she must be, but judging by how Twilight mentioned her name by how Mimi was acting, I think it’s a close friend of hers. Maybe. As for twilight here, I don’t know.”
Shadow moved over to Richard and looked at Twilight with an appraising eye. He frowned before motioning Tentomon to come on over. Tentomon gave Twilight a look over as well before turning back to Shadow who whispered, “It's not just me right? It looks like she has the symptoms of Digi-mutation. That would explain why she’s burning up and her data has changed as it has. It looks like a bit of it has been corrupted. I remember Elecmon muttering about it to himself as he was taking care of one of the other baby Digimon.”
Tentomon nodded with worry before his expression became grim, “Though it looks like the same symptoms, it's much worse. Her code isn’t just changing; it’s deleting itself.”
Shadow was shocked and turned to look at Twilight with fear in his eyes, “No…..Elecmon said that strain had gone extinct long ago. I can’t remember the name of it, but it's worse than Digi-mutation. I think he mentioned that there was one cure but I can’t for the life of me remember what.”
Tentomon nodded, glad that only Shadow was able to hear what he said. “The only thing we can do is hope that she’ll pull through, slim as it may be,” he said, before grabbing a few leafs and fed them to Twilight as he spoke to the others with his best lie, as he didn’t want them to worry, “It’s just a fever, nothing too serious. Must be from her recent battle with that Shellmon.”
Shadow looked back up at Twilight in Richard’s arms as a worried frown worked its way across his face. He turned back to Tentomon as a weak smile appeared on his face, “Thanks Tentomon. I just needed a second opinion.” The others had been watching them with concern and worry on their faces but as they heard what Tentomon said their worries and tension eased somewhat.
Mimi finally turned back to Agumon as she continued in her whiny voice, “I’m not going to walk in the dirt in my bare feet.”
Palmon jogged on over to the pair of them as she happily spread her arms, “I love the feel of dirt under my feet. Especially between my toes.”
Mimi’s face scrunched up in disgust as she replied, “Gross.” Palmon just knelt down onto the ground with content and happy expression on her face.
Izzy turned to look up at the sky as he said in worry, “it appears that we are losing our light source.”
Sora looked up at the sky with her hands on her hips. “What a weird sunset, “She contemplated as she stared at the orange-yellow sky.”
Izzy sighed and shook his head, “This whole island is weird. And who knows what will come out at night.”
Tentomon quickly jerked up into the air as he spoke happily, “Wait. I detect water. You guys stay here while I go check it out.” He flew through the trees towards where he had detected the water. He flew up into the air above the trees and saw what he was looking for and smugly said, “Yes, as usual, I am right. Its a lake with fresh, clean water and a variety of tasty fish. It’s a perfect campsite,” Tentomon said as he sat in a tree. He flew back to the others to tell them what he had seen.
Mimi looked up into the air as she sighed with relief, “Finally, I can soak my poor achy feet.” Palmon was still kneeling beside her with her plant hands pressed into the dirt.
Gomamon was ecstatic as he started heading towards the lake shouting, “Yay! We get to swim!” Only to stop in his tracks as his tail was held in place by Joe, who looked less than pleased.
Joe sharply told Gomamon, “Gomamon, You’d better wait and make sure its safe first.”
Matt looked down at his exhausted little brother who was sitting on his but alongside and equally exhausted Patamon. He turned to look at the others as he said cooly, “That’s why I think we should keep walking and stop all the complaining.”
Tai stood up from where he’d been sitting down and stated, “Everybody’s hungry. We have to find some food.”
Joe turned to look at the others a bit more calm himself as he replied, “That is a good plan. I like that plan a lot.” And meanwhile, the sun was continuing to set which would soon mean they’d have no more sunlight. So they kept on walking till they finally reached the banks of the lake.
The lake was somewhat weird as a collection of metal towers used for electricity lines were clustered right in the middle of the lake sticking up out of the water. There were even still some powerlines hanging limply from a couple of the towers.
Biyomon spoke up happily, “It should be safe to rest here tonight!” She stood beside Sora as she looked out across the lake.
Sora replied in turn, “Yeah. I love camping outside,” She smiled in relief as she gazed at the cold water.
Mimi turned to gaze at the others with a frustrated look on her face, “If I won’t walk in dirt what makes you think I’ll sleep in it?”
Tai groaned and looked at her in exasperation, “Mimi do you see a hotel here?”
Mimi frowned as she looked at Tai. She was about to complain when she gasped and looked over his shoulder further out at the lake where she saw something sparkling. There appeared to be a couple of metal constructs on top of a vehicle out in the middle of a small island some distance into the lake. Headlights sparked at the front of the trolly as they tried lighting up.
Tai asked in wonder, “What’s that?” He was amazed to see a vehicle out here in the middle of nowhere.
T.K. spoke up in awe, “It looks like a trolley car.” He wanted to get closer to it to check it out.”
Izzy spoke up in curiosity, “Interesting. The lights just….came on.”
Sora speculatively replied, “Well maybe there are some people in there?” At their current distance, they couldn’t make out if there was anybody in the car or not.
Tai raced towards the car as he shouted, “Let’s go check it out.” Agumon was right on his heels as he ran behind his partner.
The kids raced towards the car around the sides of the lake towards the large round mound which was connected to the shore by a small narrow bridge of dirt. As they crossed the bridge, Mimi started to speak hopefully, “Maybe they could take us home in air-conditioned comfort.”
Tai ran for the car as he called out to Mimi, “Mimi wait up.” And then quickly passed her as he got to the car and ran towards the door on the side. The door slide to the side automatically to let him in. He gazed around the inside of the car and sighed in disappointment, “Bummer. It's empty.”
Sora came in through another automatic door further down the car and commented, “Totally empty.”
Izzy came in and knelt down on the ground as he inspected the floor and said in wonder, “No trolley car is this clean.”
Mimi sat down on one of the green seats that lined a wall as she happily said, “Oh goody. These cushions are comfy.”
Tai frowned as he looked around the area, “Something’s wrong here.” He finally stood back up in a normal stance from his legs splayed out position.
The gang all looked around the car as Shadow waited outside and glared at the metal contraption, “Looks stupid to me. Why would you humans ride around in a contraption like this?” He shook his head and turned back to Richard as a worried frown replaced his scowl, “Is Twilight any better?”
Shaking his head, Richard sighed. “No. she’s still burning up,” he said after replacing the ice pack on Twilight’s head.
Shadow’s worried frown increased as he continued to watch Twilight and replied, “That’s not good. If I could remember the cure……...but I can’t. Curse my memory of being a baby.” He watched Richard hold Twilight before he spoke softly, “I don’t know what it is about Twilight, but she makes me feel different. Like some warm, fuzzy feeling I can’t describe. When she digivolved to save us, it felt like she was especially protecting me for some reason. I don’t know how to describe my feelings.”
“I.. know what you mean Shadow. Even I feel that she is someone that would be willing to do everything to protect us, yet at the same time, it also feels like she’s capable of pulling the entire world on her shoulders and not even feel the strain.” Richard said as he moved Twilight to a little bed of leaves.
Shadow continued to watch Twilight with worry, “I hope that she will be okay soon. It's hard to see her like this.”
Tai meanwhile continued where he had left off before after saying something was wrong as he looked around the car. “Remember those weird phone booths we saw on the beach? Something as freaky could happen here!”
Matt and T.K. were both outside of the car looking at it along with their partners in curiosity. They were wondering why this thing was out here on this mound. Joe was sitting at the front of the trolley car in the driver’s seat right behind the headlights. In fact, Biyomon was perched on the glass window looking in at Joe with wonder as she gazed into the car.
Joe was smiling happily as he replied, “Yeah. Like this suddenly moving by itself.” His hand was holding the lever that could be moved in an arc to make the car run and speed up or slow down.
Tai had his arms folded as he contemplated the car and Joe’s answer. He finally said, “Possibly. But then maybe that’s how we’re going to get home.”
Sora was sitting on one of the seats right next to Tentomon with her arms splayed out wide to the sides on top of the seats. She smiled up at the ceiling as she replied happily, “So we have nothing to lose by staying here.”
Tentomon funnily enough just whined next to Sora, “Ohhhh. Can we eat now?” He seemed both tired and hungry at the moment.
Tai continued his contemplation as he looked out the window of the trolley car. He sighed, “That’s right. I forgot.”
A little bit later Gomamon was messing around in the water happy to have an area where he could swim. He moved underneath the surface as a trail of bubbles showed where he was. Before he finally surfaced and Izzy complained, “Gomamon stop playing in the water.” He was currently trying to fish in the lake using a long wooden stick with a string tied to the end and T.K. standing next to him watching curiously. Gomamon swam past them happily while Izzy continued, “I can’t catch any fish if you keep warning them away.”
Tentomon meanwhile was up in a tree in the forest line, on a branch with leaves that had clusters of berries growing from them. He buzzed happily as Joe and Sora passed underneath him carrying arms of kindling and firewood. He graciously said, “Yum Yum. You can’t get too many berries down the hatch.”
Agumon and Patamon were out foraging for food themselves and had spotted a small cluster of bananas up in a tree in another part of the forest line. Patamon blew himself up big as he struggled to contain the air on top of Agumon’s head before letting out the massive blast of air as a boom bubble that knocked the fruit to the ground.
Unfortunately, poor Gabumon was standing right underneath the tree and branch the bananas has been hanging on. The bananas fell towards the ground and impaled themselves right on Gabumon’s horn making him let out a cry of pain as he put his paws up to his head on either side of his horn. Though she was still delirious from her fever, even Twilight winced in pain as she knew just how sensitive horns were. Biyomon turned her head as she put a winged hand underneath her beak and started to laugh. Patamon moved to stand next to Gabumon with a worried expression on his face.
Biyomon laughed for a bit before turning to Patamon and chuckled, “Oh boy. You’d better watch that killer breath of yours Patamon.” She took flight as she flew away from the two of them. She flew up to fruit on another tree and struggled to pull it off by its stim with her beak but wasn’t having any luck.
In another area, Mimi was working with Palmon to pick mushrooms for their meal but nearly ended up picking up bad mushrooms. Luckily, Palmon shook her head and held out a hand to stop her. She firmly said, “Those are bad mushrooms. You shouldn’t pick them. They’ll make you sick.”
Mimi moved her hand away as she gasped, “Oh. I’d be a big mess without you Palmon. You’re the best.”
Palmon smugly turned to face the lake with chest puffed out as she grew a foot taller thanks to her legs stretching. She replied happily, “That’s right.”
Dracomon watched from a distance but managed to hear them as he snorted, “A mess is right. Mimi has a hard time doing anything right without help. I still think she’s a conceited, spoiled brat.” He looked up at Richard with a raised eyebrow as he said this.
Richard looked over to where Mimi was, before letting out a sigh. “You think so too, huh. It would be one thing if she just complained about one thing, like sore feet or even that she was hungry, but to complain about dirt even though we are literally outside, to even completely clueless about what’s safe to eat, makes me wonder just how sheltered she was.” Richard said, before turning back to Twilight, who did look slightly better, but a worried frown appeared on his face the longer he saw the encroaching black spot that appeared on her stomach.
Dracomon turned to look at Twilight as well with worry as he quietly said to himself, “I hope she gets better soon.”
A bit later both Sora and Matt had finished making a fire pit and set the wood in it in a tent-like shape. Matt looked down at it as he said, “Well we have all we need to cook dinner. Now, all we need is the grub.” Tai was with them as well as he had helped to make the stone ring around the pit.
Sora looked down at the pit as well as she replied, “Yeah. But how are we supposed to light the fire?”
Agumon came running over happily with a grin on his face as he said, “Like this.” And stopped at the edge of the pit and breathed a stream of fire into it which lit the campfire and gave them a nice crackling campfire.
Tai grinned after watching Agumon light the fire and said happily, “Wow Agumon. You’re the man!”
Agumon looked rather pleased with himself at Tai’s remark. He let out a happy, “Ahhh.” and stared into the campfire he’d made.
T.K. ran behind Agumon alongside Izzy causing him to turn and face them as T.K. shouted, “Look at it.”
Izzy was pleased as well as he held up a bunch of fish on sticks wrapped in leaves and said, “We caught a lot of fish.”
Tai took one of the sticks from Izzy, “Awesome Izzy. Let’s eat them.”
Matt took another stick from his brother as he smiled down at him. He was rather proud of his little brother at the moment. “Thanks squirt.” And T.K. smiled happily up at his big brother as he handed over the stick of fish.
Richard also grabbed a few fish skewers, though he and Dracomon chuckled at the near stupidity Tai did by holding the fish by hand over the fire.
“This is where I wish we had microwaves,” Tai said as he held the fish over the flames.
“Me too,” Matt said as he walked over to Tai and Richard, “because you’re about to lose your fingers. Why don’t you use a stick?”
“How did you come up with that, Matt?” Tai said curiously as Matt placed the fish on the stick and stuck it in the dirt.
“Because I’m the man,” Matt said boastfully as he watched the fish cook on the flames.
With time the fish were all cooked, and they all had a hearty meal, which humans and Digimon alike enjoyed. Both Biyomon and Tentomon were chewing on the sizeable weird fruit that Biyomon had finally been able to pull off the tree. Tentomon spoke up between mouthfuls, “This is surprisingly good.”
Izzy chewed on his fish before saying, “Delicious.” By now it was night time, and the fire had died down entirely by the side of the lake.
T.K. looked up from his still uneaten fish as he looked at his older brother. He finally said, “Matt. Mom only lets me eat fish sticks.”
Matt sighed as he listened to his younger brother and replied, “I won’t tell.”
T.K. looked worried as he moved his head up from his fish on a stick and said, “I’ve never eaten with my hands before.” Matt sighed in exasperation.
Matt looked at his brother and snapped, “T.K. It’s all right.”
Tai grinned as he moved over and reached out with a hand and pointed at T.K., “Yeah. You’re hanging with the big boys now.”
T.K. nodded before he dug into the fish, “Ok.” He hungrily ate his fish as Matt watched in worry and annoyance.
Tai walked away from the other children towards sora who was filling a piece of hollow bamboo wood she’d found with water. He stopped a few feet away from her as he got her attention, “Hey Sora?”
Sora looked up from her water gathering, “What?” She was crouching down with the water-filled bamboo piece in her hand.
Tai frowned as he replied to Sora and said, “Matt doesn’t treat T.K. like a brother. Only as a bother. Is it just me or have you noticed that too?”
Sora replied calmly with her own opinion, “Yeah.” She sighed as she looked down at the bamboo piece in her hands.
Tai continued to look at her as he contemplated before finally speaking his thoughts, “I wonder….”
But he was cut off as Sora spoke up before he could continue, “Mat’s still learning to be a big brother.”
Tai looked up into the air, “Maybe.” He was still contemplative as he did so.
Joe walked up to them and stopped by the edge of the lake. He put his hands on his hips as he looked up at the night sky and let out a hum of pleasure.”
Sora stood up before turning to him and asked, “Hey Joe. What are you looking at?”
Joe responded in thought, “I’ve been trying to figure out which direction we’ve been going. But the stars seem to be all mixed up.” He looked around at the stars in the night sky. He finally continued, “I haven’t been able to find the north star anywhere.”
Sora replied in worry, “I know. I haven’t recognized any of these constellations.”
Tai dismissively said, “You forget your astronomy. If you can’t find the north star, then it must be on the other side of the world.”
Sora replied worriedly, “Do you think we could be in the southern hemisphere?”
Joe turned to face the both of them as he lowered his gaze from the stars, “Yes. I guess it's possible. That is if we’re still on Earth.”
Tai frowned as he asked, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Dracomon and Richard weren’t too far away from the trio and heard the comment. Dracomon was puzzled as he turned to Richard and asked, “What’s Earth?”
Richard had already long figured that they weren’t on planet earth anymore, just because of the Digimon roaming around. If they were, then the rest of the world would have known about them or even taught about them in classes and such. “It’s where we’re from. As for how we even got here, that’s still a mystery,” he said as he looked down at Twilight, “and for some strange reason, I feel like she isn’t either, but at the same time, is as much a part of the world as you are.”
Dracomon frowned as he folded his arms, “Yeah I get that feeling too. Still, there’s not too much we can ask or do unless she gets better.” His attention was torn away from Twilight as he looked over to a yawning Patamon who started to settle onto the ground sleepily.
T.K. looked at his tired partner and said, “Hey look. Patamon is tired.” Several of the other Digimon like Palmon and Gomamon were already fast asleep and cuddled up into a pile.
Tai stretched his arms out as he let out a yawn, “I’m getting tired myself.”
Izzy walked over to stand by him to express his idea. He spoke up firmly, “Wait a minute. I think we should take turns standing guard.”
Joe nodded with his hands on his hips, “Alright. Who wants to go first?”
Tai turned to face Joe as he replied, “How about each of us stand’s guard for about an hour.”
Matt stood up to full height from next to T.K. and replied calmly but firmly, “Not T.K.”
T.K., however, wasn’t happy about it as he grabbed hold of matt’s green shirt with a hand. He complained, “Oh. Come on, me too Matt.”
Matt snapped his attention back to T.K. with annoyance as he snapped, “No! You’re too young, and you need your rest.”
Mimi stood up from the ground as well and walked to stand by the both of them as she said. “I’m getting cold. I need a warm blanket to help me sleep.”
Tai got the brilliant idea to pull a prank on Gabumon after hearing this remark. He smiled mischievously and held out his hands with fingers crooked creepily. He walked towards Gabumon and said in a spooky way, “Hey Gabumon. Watch out! Mimi may sneak up on you and steal your fur. So if you feel a little tug, it might be her about to cut your tail off.” He grabbed hold of the back of Gabumon’s pelt as he did this.
Gabumon looked both worried and unhappy as he heard this and tried to take a few steps away from Tai. He said in worry, “Stop Tai! That’s not funny!” He ran away from Tai as Tai started to laugh at his successful prank.
Matt was less than happy as he rushed over and shoved Tai right in the chest. He yelled, “Stop it!”
Tai let out a groan of pain before facing Matt angrily with hands clenched into fists. He scowled at Matt and growled, “What are you bugging out about?”
T.K. was much concerned and a little scared as he saw the two of them fight with the now more awake Patamon perched on his shoulder. Matt shouted, “Gabumon told you to stop. So knock it off.” The shouting match had woken all the Digimon up from their sleep, and they stood around awkwardly with their partners as they watched the argument.
Tai growled and shouted back, “Hey you can’t tell me what to do!”
The arguments even woke Twilight up, though only barely, as she started to glow and send out pulses of strange calming energy, somehow stopping Matt and Tai from getting into a full-blown fight. When the pulses came to a stop, everyone looked over to the little Digimon in awe, and concern as it was now looking even worse than before.
T.K. took this opportunity to run over to the two still angry older children and said, “Hey. Stop fighting.”
The two of them growled and turned away from each other with arms folded and arms closed. They were like two little kids throwing a tantrum. Joe took the opportunity to walk over to them and speak up, “Hey, You’ll both make great guards. Who goes first?”
Tai turned to him angrily as he jabbed his thumb into his chest as he responded, “I will.”
But Matt turned around only a second later as he growled, “I’m next.”
T.K. smiled in relief as he watched the both of them with Patamon still on his shoulder. Patamon let out another yawn as he continued to watch. Joe smiled at the both of them and replied, “How about Izzy takes over after that and I finish up the night? I propose that the rest of us trek back to the bus and get some shut eye.” They all nodded in agreement and did so with Tai taking the first watch.
As they walked along back to the bus, Shadow the Dracomon growled, “They’d better not argue again tonight, or I’m going to knock both their heads together. I’m not going to have my sleep ruined by two fools who can’t see they’re on the same side.”
T.K was nearly half asleep when he turned around before thanking Twilight for calming Matt an Tai down, even though he knew that until she got better, she wouldn’t hear what he said. He was pretty shocked, and glad when Twilight said “you're… welcome...” before falling back into her slumber.
