Chapters As the bonfire continues, AJ and RD compete on who can sell the most snacks and s'more supplies. As Twilight watches from her spot next to Fluttershy, she leans and whispers into Fluttershy's ear. "It just keeps getting worse with those two no matter what I try."
"Well," responds Fluttershy, "confront them. Put them on cleanup duty after the bonfire maybe."
"That's actually a good idea," responds Twi. "Thanks." Twilight then goes and tells this to Rainbow and AJ and they begrudgingly agree to this punishment. Twilight then returns back to her seat next to Fluttershy and lets out a sigh of satisfaction. She then gets busy toasting a marshmallow for a s'more. A few minutes later, she finishes making the s'more and happily eats it as she watches AJ and RD from a distance. Twilight then lets out a snarky giggle. She then sighs to herself, "next time don't almost drown one of my students." Twilight the gets up and goes and sits next to Yona.
"I'm glad you're okay Yona," says Twilight with a sweet smile.
"Yeah," giggles Yona, "I'm so lucky my friends were able to turn into seaponies to save me."
"I bet," responds Twilight with a giggle and a smile. Twilight then goes over and thanks Silverstream and Ocellus for saving Yona. She then gives each of them an outstanding student medal. The two embrace Twilight in a tight hug and shower her with thanks. Twilight can't help but blush. She's so blessed to have great students. Even so, she wishes her own friends would learn to be more responsible.
Around 1:30 AM, the bonfire comes to an end and the students and other teachers, sans AJ and RD turn in for the night. As for RD and AJ, they begin to clean up all the mess. "Ugh," grumbles RD annoyed, "this is no fun."
"Guess this is what we get for being negligent and almost letting a student drown," says AJ. "We did wrong and now we're doing our due time for it."
Meanwhile back in her room, Yona falls fast asleep on the far and Ocellus throws a blanket over her with help from Silver Stream.
After three hours, RD andAJ finish cleaning up from the bonfire and turn in for the night themselves. As AJ tries to fall asleep, she can't help but think her mom and dad would be so disappointed in her for almost letting a child drown and this ends up keeping her awake for the rest of the night.
Around 7:00 that same morning, before school starts, AJ goes to the office and lets it all out in front of Twilight. "Twi, I feel so bad for almost letting Yona drown. I couldn't sleep last night because it kept me awake. I thought about how my parents would be so disappointed in me if they were alive for letting a child almost drown. I'm so sorry."
"Well, you're forgiven and I'm glad you learned your lesson," responds Twilight as she embraces Applejack in a hug. AJ is so glad Twilight has forgiven her. Now, if only she can learn to forgive herself.
It's the day after the disastrous field trip when Twilight calls Rainbow and Applejack into her office. As the two enter the room, they can tell Twilight is displeased. "Hello girls," says Twilight, "I called you two in here to talk about yesterday's events." She then turns to Yona. "You almost let Yona drown yesterday. You know that? That's not good. A student almost died under your care."
"We know and we're sorry," says Applejack bowing her head. Rainbow does the same.
"Regardless, no more field trips for the two of you as well as clean up duty as well after tonight's bonfire, deal," says Twilight raising an eyebrow at her friends.
"Fine," sigh Rainbow and AJ.
"Also, stop competing and learn to focus more on student safety," adds Twilight before letting the two leave the room. Yona is then released back to her class with Starlight at her side.
"She's right," says Rainbow to AJ as they walk down the hallway together, "we were pretty negligent."
"We shouldn't have been so focused on ourselves but on the kids, I agree," responds AJ. "I don't know what I'd do with myself if we let Yona drown. After all, she is the granddaughter of the prince. If she died, that would mean war."
The two then part into their separate classrooms and get back to teaching their students. They are to teach the students safety now on top of their lessons in honesty and loyalty due to their negligence.
Meanwhile in Fluttershy's class, Yona can't help but think about what almost happened to her yesterday and Fluttershy soon takes notice of this and walks over to Yona's desk. "What's wrong, Yona?" Asks Fluttershy concerned.
"I almost drowned yesterday, I just wanna go back home to Yakyakistan," cries Yona.
"Oh. Okay," sighs Fluttershy, "but at least, stay for tonight's bonfire."
"Okay," says Yona wiping away the tears. She's so thankful that Fluttershy cares about the students so much especially in tough times like these.
That night, it's time for the bonfire and the students arrive as do their friends and family. As for Applejack and Rainbow they're selling tickets while wearing hats that say 'we promise not to compete on who can sell the most tickets tonight'. Meanwhile Twilight and the rest of her friends get the fire started and get the fireflies in place to go up into the sky on Fluttershy's cue. Everything is coming together beautifully.
As for Yona, she's over on a log between Silverstream and Ocellus. As they watch the fire crackle the glow, the three friends joke and tell stories. As for Gallus, he's busy flying around the grounds with Smoulder before the bonfire starts. "Dragons make even big bonfires near lava pits," says Smoulder as the two land and take a seat on the log next to their friends. Sand Bar then comes over and joins them a few minutes later. Spike and Smoulder then get up and light the fire and the bonfire officially begins. The students can't help but agree this is the best night at the school they've had in awhile. As for AJ and Rainbow, they've gone against the competing ban given them by Twilight and have started competing to see how many sodas and s'more supplies then can sell and Twilight doesn't like this new development at all and even goes and tells them so. Alas, the two, like always, refuse to listen and continue to compete and hence Twilight punishes them by telling them to stay late to clean up everything after the bonfire. For now, though, the two will just have to try not to compete on selling snacks of all things.
