Twilight was skimming through several books at once, all of them focusing on the same subject,"Hey Twilight!" Spike exclaimed as he entered the library, a Power Ponies comic in his claw,"What are you studying now?" The baby dragon asked with a smirk as he walked over and stood next to the alicorn, and placed his comic on the desk,"'Romance for Dummies,'?'Dating 101'?'How to Ask Out Your Crush'? These are all books on dating. Why are you reading books about romance? I thought that this subject wasn't worth your time?"Spike asked as he peered over the alicorn's shoulder onto the book she was reading.
"Because Spike,"Twilight started, placing the paperback books that were gently gripped in her magic on the table in front of her, before turning to her assistant,"I uh...I have a bit of a crush on-"Twilight stopped herself, she was afraid of what Spike's reaction would be if he knew there was "competition" for the mare he had loved since he had first laid eyes on her, literally. Though maybe he could help, if things went well, Rarity would still be in his family. Besides, she figured he had realized by now that the unicorn didn't share the same feelings for him. Nevertheless, she decided that she needed to be delicate on how she broke the news to the dragon,"-on somepony," She said, even though she have a big feeling of what Spike's answer to this would be.
"Okay...well, care to tell me who it is? Maybe I can help!" Spike said with a smile.
"Well, this mare is a close friend of mine currently. She is beautiful, both inside and out. Great looks, personality, and she's always there for me, no matter what the problem may b-" The lavender alicorn was cut off when Spike put a claw over her mouth, when he removed it, he was holding a stern glare,
"Hold on, this wouldn't happen to be the mare that you've been going to see every day just to make sure she doesn't need any help with anything would it?" Spike asked crossing his arms,"The mare that you talk about in your sleep? Rarity?" Twilight was surprised at this. She knew that she dreamt about Rarity and herself, but she never knew that she talked in her sleep!
"Well, yes! But I talk in my sleep? You can actually hear me through the walls!?" Twilight asked in astonishment, eyes wide.
"Well, yea! The walls may be solid, but they are crystal solid!" Spike replied, making the two chuckle lightly.
"Alright, well you've got me there. So are you okay with this? It doesn't bother or hurt you?" Twilight asked with care and concern.
"Well, I've figured out that I'm just a little brother to her, so I am more than happy to help you!"Spike replied, excited to finally find Twilight a life partner. He had always thought she needed somepony to care for her and love her in ways that an assistant and best friend like him never could. Plus, he had always felt more like her son or brother than anything else.
"Really?!" Twilight asked in shock,"Well thanks, Spike. I've actually been nervous all day, I don't know how to tell her, nor do I know how to react to any type of response she could give me! I mean, what if she rejects me, or worse, she laughs at me because of my affections?! I don't think I could take that kind of rejection..." Twilight mused out loud before catching the baby dragon's glare."What?"
"Twilight you shouldn't worry about all that, I mean it's natural to be nervous, but if for some reason she happens to reject you....then she isn't worth your time, and Twilight, she's your friend, so I can guarantee out of any reply you could get, none of them will be Rarity laughing at you. Besides, you two have known each other for so long, just be yourself, because there's no reason to try and change who you are just to please another mare or stallion." Spike said confidently while holding a smirk on his face. Meanwhile, Twilight was looking down at the baby dragon with a loving smile and teary eyes.
"T-Thanks Spike...You really are my Number One Assistant," Twilight said with a sigh as she pulled him into a brief hug before wiping the tears from her eyes." Also, I am so glad that you are okay with this! I was afraid you would be upset," Twilight added, her confidence returning to its full power. Taking a breath, she stood from her desk,"Alright, here goes nothing I guess. I'll see you when I get back Spike, hopefully, with a marefriend," Twilight said with a dry laugh before turning to leave the castle, when a small claw stopped him.
"One more thing Twilight, don't follow these crummy old books when it comes to dating advice. I feel like whoever wrote these never experienced true love themselves. Just follow what your heart tells you. Okay?" Twilight nodded in response with a smile.
"I'll keep that in mind, Spike. Thanks," She giggled before racing from the castle and heading straight for Carousel Boutique.
When the lavender alicorn's vision came to meet her destination, she slowed from a run to a trot, as she stopped in front of the purple door with diamond-shaped windows. She stared in hesitation for a moment, before raising a shaking hoof to the door and knocking softly, half-hoping that Rarity wouldn't answer. However, only a few seconds, the door opened to reveal the pale-while unicorn,"Oh hello Twilight! How nice of you to drop by!" Rarity then noticed the nervous look on the alicorn's face,"Is everything alright?"
"Yes! I mean...I just need to-" Twilight stopped herself as she took a deep breath before continuing,"Can I talk to you about something? Something important?"
"Why, of course you can! Come have a seat!" Rarity replied with a bright smile as she gestured for her friend to come inside before she led her to a small sitting area that consisted of two couches and a coffee table for a centerpiece.
When both mares were seated, the unicorn motioned for her friend to start talking."Rarity...."Twilight took a breath, she knew this conversation would be a long one, for she was going to take the topic in a slow, and smart direction."Before I go on with what I'm gonna say, promise me that you will wait until I finish so you don't jump to one conclusion before you hear it all and possibly get the wrong idea. Okay?" Already, nervous sweat was beading on Twilight's forehead, and she prayed that Rarity wouldn't see it.
"Alright Twilight, I promise,"Rarity replied with a smile,"You may continue."
"Okay...so I know you are kind of an expert on romance, and I was hoping you could give me some advice. See, I kind of have a crush on this mare..."Twilight started.
"Oh, that's wonderful Twilight! Who is it?!"
"Well...I don't really want to tell you just yet, but this mare is the most beautiful, wonderful mare I've ever met,"Twilight said with a smile.
"Alright, well could you tell me about her then? Her likes and dislikes? Personality? That way I can give you proper advice." Rarity asked, and Twilight nodded and thought for a moment before continuing.
"Well, she is very close to me, and she's beautiful both on the inside and out. She has a gorgeous smile, her eyes glow in the stars, her heart is as pure as gold..."Twilight said trailing off.
With everything Twilight had been saying, Rarity had been putting it together in her mind, she had a hunch of a mare in her mind of who it could be, but she had to be sure,"Go on", she said, eager to continue their little game of "Guess Who".
"Well, I know her really well, and out of all the friends I've ever had, I feel like I have always been closest to her. However, I don't think she really likes me back, at least not in that way, that's why I needed advice from you Rarity, so maybe I can convince her otherwise..."
Rarity was about ninety percent she knew who this mystery mare was, but to be sure, she had a few questions of her own."Twilight, if you don't mind I would like to ask a few questions of my own before I give proper advice here."Rarity said, half out of reality as she continued piecing the information the alicorn had given her together, so she could maybe see the finished picture.
"Oh? Well...sure! Go ahead,"Twilight responded giving Rarity permission to ask what was on her mind.
"Well, from how you described her, she sounds very elegant, and kind, and so understanding too despite her, from the way it sounds, high-class stature. Am I right?"Rarity asked.
"Yes..?"Twilight wasn't sure where the unicorn was going with this, nor if it was good or bad.
"Going back to the understanding thing, could you tell me what makes her that way?"
"Well...She knows how to listen, probably because she's also good friends with Fluttershy."Twilight said stifling a giggle.
Hearing that, Rarity was all but one percent sure she knew who it was, and was ready to make her guess, but first, she had one last question,"Twilight, be completely honest, have I met, or do I know this mare?"
"Very well I'm sure," Twilight said, knowing that would probably tell her, and she was right.
"My my Twilight, you are such a smart mare aren't you?"Rarity asked with a smirk as she stood from her seat, walking and sitting next to her.
"Huh?"Twilight was completely confused, though she had gained a blush from getting a compliment from her crush.
"I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but you have a crush on this mare, so you decided to come to that same mare and play twenty questions with her just to tell her that you had that crush, and the whole charade took place because you were that nervous!?"Rarity asked putting a hoof around the very shocked and wide-eyed alicorn.
"H-How did you figure all that out ......from the small amount of information I gave you....?"Twilight stuttered, looking at the floor, her voice was now barely audible but was loud enough for Rarity to hear her.
"Well for one thing, you were talking about me, and I think I know myself pretty well, and secondly, I was watching your body language, which was lots of fidgeting, blushing, and looking at me when you thought I wouldn't notice, that told me, as well as the fact you've come here every day for the past week, not that I haven't enjoyed your company of course, in fact, I was suspicious about your feelings for me already, and this proved my theory right!"Rarity exclaimed.
"S-so you aren't mad at me?"
"Dear, nopony should get mad at somepony else for liking them, as for my answer to your 'proposal'...."Rarity trailed off, causing Twilight to look up at the unicorn, not sure if she should be worried or not."I think it's a yes!"Rarity finally replied throwing her hooves around the startled alicorn.
"Really!?!"Twilight said happily but surprised.
"Yes Twilight, I do mean yes! How could I say no? Not only have you given me the most wonderful complements today, but you've proven just how much you truly care for me."Rarity added, a tear forming in her eyes, which added to the many tears falling from Twilight, which Rarity quickly wiped away before her own."Now...I want to prove something to you.."Rarity started, getting a look at Twilight. Rarity finished her sentence, not with words, but by turning her new marefriend toward her, and pulling her into a long, passionate kiss, which the alicorn happily accepted.

So I found this old story of mine and then re-read "Late One Night" and I'm going to make a RariLight series! Starting with this book and eventually "Late One Night" will be there and so on. Hope you guys are excited!
