Canterlot, the peak of pony society.

If you ask the locales.

After all, this is where the crème de la crème of ponykind starts and ends. This is where the rulers of Equestria hold seats. It is where the Councils make the final decisions that will impact all pf Equestria and its influences beyond. The cradle of sophistication and high society. Where the brightest minds and deepest pockets meet to discuss how to change the world and then leave it perfectly how it always was.

Capital of boring.

No changes, no excitement. Sure, maybe an invasion or two, but once the streets have been swept clean, it all goes back to the boring same old same. Where ponies never change and all the same old routines are so carved into tradition even the children of the children of the children of an earl or duke who always did things one certain way, are still doing everything the exact same way. Frowning deeply at any changes, whether it’s political or personal.

Any tiniest sidestep can raise the scorn of society as a whole. Everything must perfect or you become nothing.

The perfect life among the elite. It bores her so very much. But she was born, no, bred into it. Perfection, grace, charm and schooled until she could puke out the perfect accent to go to any situation at all the same social gatherings and charity events and galas and theater goings and so on and so on.

Midwinter Grace is the perfect high society unicorn mare. Never complaints or insults, only venom loaded under friendly smiles between friendly ponies. Beautiful and graceful, that soft cyan coat and perfectly styled marine mane with those perfect lilac eyes. Always dressed properly and and in fashion yet a bit bold with some tradition to her style to stand out yet staying safe within the lines. The envy of all as she walks besides the perfect and graceful and charming Lord Earl Grey, the top of the unicorn elite, his greying mane not plain grey but silver delight as to be expected of an elite, not even clashing with his purple coat. The perfect couple. Beauty, grace and success. Sure there was an age gap, barely a decade, replacing an old wife to keep him company and secure both family names and fortunes in the grand plan of keeping the perfect breed of elite going.

All so very boring.

Except, as of now. Not so boring.

She’s not by his side right now, after all. Not mingling among the boring buffoons with their snoots so high up in the air they’ll drown instantly if the ceiling sprinklers went off.

To survive boring events and boring social gatherings day in and day out, a few lines must be broken. Just to keep her sanity intact.

That’s where he comes in.

Chocolate Tail. Well, how he introduced himself when sneaking into an event for high society. Waltzing in like he belonged, not even showing an invitation as everypony must to prove they were on the list.

The cheekiness and nerve of this unicorn, walking around like he owned the place, all the confidence of the world to pretend he was among his own. She saw straight through it, this stallion parading himself as he eyed everypony like a hungry vulture. Sizing up wallets and plots whenever nopony was looking. Or he thought nopony was looking.

She observed him. Nothing better to do, to keep herself sane among the constantly repeated routine of phrases and gestures, talks of politics and business before everything goes back to blank and then rinse and repeat.

She knew everypony at these events. Observed, named and labelled every single one for any sort of entertainment while the ponies around her would ramble on about absolutely uninteresting things which would never change anyway.

This pony didn’t belong. The way he presented himself, the way he moved, how he automatically mirrored the ponies he talked to, immediately getting into their good grace by the familiarity they felt from him and his instinctive copying of their little gestures and tones.

A fraud with painted coat. She had a chance later on to look closer for that. Indeed it was painted, the perfect brown tones of milky chocolate dyed to hide the true colour underneath unless you check the roots, even his cutiemark a fake. Which you had to get very close to do.

So very close.

He had most likely sensed one pony hadn’t fallen for his ruse. One pony watching him keenly.

One so very bored pony.

She hadn’t even planned to ever confront him. Whatever he was up to, let it be. Whatever schemes he planned against these elites so eager to fall for empty flatter deserved whatever he wanted from them. Most likely he didn’t wish to take chances, not knowing what her end game was, watching him so keenly.

She rarely strayed from her husband’s side, as he droned on about politics and business with other ponies of note and importance. It was never her interest, but any other group rarely talked about anything less boring.

She caught sight of him, leaving the crowds for the garden. What ponies would do when the stuffy room got too hot, just out for a bit of fresh, cool evening air. But this pony who usually played his act so perfectly was now showing his guards. Looking around to ensure nopony noticed as he slipped out.

This change in behaviour had her curiosity sparked.

Her husband barely registering her excuse as she left his side to investigate.

Of course it was all a trap, he had been as aware of her as she had been aware of him from the very start.

The outcome quite different than she ever expected.

Once they found themselves on same page after the confrontation, the offer was too good to pass up. She didn’t care about his scheme, whatever it was. Picking the pockets of the high society, some sort of vindication by proving a pony from the dirt could trick them all and never get caught.

All she wanted was to feel alive and deal with this terrible boredom.

He had a solution.

They had a deal

Author's Note

Another try at a simple clopfic. And as usual I end up with too much exposition and setting up. So, the actual smut will be in the second chapter, which hopefully will also be last.

Can't tag these character names for being too obscure, but all have been taken from the unicorn list on the MLP wiki, because I like to have fun with canon background characters.

Let me know what you think and the next chapter shall be up shortly.
Enjoy!
