(??? P.O.V.)
'Where am I? Who am I? And... What happened?' A single being asked as its eyes slowly opened to a bright world. One which it was not ready for. The being was massive, a dragon of course would be, but he was on a borderline giant of one, even by their standards! His height exceeded 150 meters, with a wingspan of 175 meters and he weighed over 70,000 tons! His golden scales were gleaming in the moonlight, as though they were made of pure gold, with bright red eyes on all 3 of his heads, which contained eastern dragon-like horns on the backs and sharp teeth like diamond in strength and a razor in sharpness. Strangely, he had no arms/front legs, only two back legs for on-land locomotion. His two wings were properly proportional to his body and had no imperfections in terms of design. He also had a pair of tails which were connected to one central limb at his end.
The being looked around as he saw that he was in some kind of dark forest at night with no further explanation or any further signs of life. He decided to try to get somewhere and flapped his massive wings, his instincts allowing him to fly quite easily. It seemed as though he flew for all of his life, for how long it really was, the being had no idea. He just cleared the tree tops and he changed to moving forwards, towards a small town. When he arrived there, he saw that it was surprisingly empty, nothing seemed to be there except the buildings themselves and a few stands as well. They seemed to be of medieval aged construction. The style which was forgotten to man was now in front of the massive dragon. He had no idea as to how he knew that, but he didn't bother to question it at all. The massive dragon didn't want to attract undue attention, thus it managed to quiet his footfalls to the point where they were silent. It was hard to do, but he managed to accomplish it.
He searched and searched the place, hoping to at least find something, anything that would indicate life forms other than himself. He did eventually find one, that was, as it turned out, the central building. The being kept going quietly as he looked in through a window, making sure he wouldn't be seen. What he saw wasn't what he was expecting at all. He was looking at small quadrupedal creatures, equines called ponies if he knew the term correctly. He wasn't sure if he was on an influential substance, in a dream or something else, because he wasn't exactly certain if he was hallucinating, dreaming, or if this was reality due to the fact that he was reasonably sure that they weren't multicolored. He just shook his heads to clear his heads as he kept looking into the windows. A pair of curtains had concealed something for some reason before they drew back and revealed... nothing...
'What?' The dragon demanded mentally in bewilderment before he noticed some wisps of blue smoke and dust rising from the cracks in the hard wood floor of the stage. He just kept staring as he saw an extremely tall mare appear out of it from seemingly nowhere. Her black coat seemed to absorb the very light of the room, her teal eyes like the slits of a feline which complimented her overall appearance. She wore from fetlock to her horn pure light blue armor which had a fleur de lis design chest plate, boots which almost went up to her knees and a helmet which covered her horn. Her mane was like none of the other mares in the room, it flowed like there was wind where there was none. It even sparkled at times with small white stars, which made her mane seem like it were a piece of the skies itself. She laughed and said that she was glad to see her subjects after so long.
One wanted to fight her, but another held her back, a third tried to guess her name, apparently failing. Then, there was one more which said that the mare on the stage was, apparently, named Nightmare Moon. The mentioned mare then reared back as she said that the night would last forever and then laughed. A couple of ponies in golden armor then attacked her, but were blown back by a blast of some sort. The dragon noticed however, that the source came from the horn itself, something it stored in its memory for later. He then watched as the mare turned to dust and flew off into the distance. The dragon thought that if she was powerful enough to transform herself, then maybe she could help him. He spread his wings as he took flight and followed the mare in the general direction she was going, not realizing he had been spotted.
(Twilight's P.O.V.)
Twilight was in a state of pure panic. All of the signs were coming to fruition as she had just seen the golden dragon of the legend which was said to have followed Nightmare Moon's release. She had expected that it would look different from the artistic drawing and same with Nightmare Moon. The mere sight of it however, was something she was never prepared for. The legend made it seem like any other dragon, however, this was simply not the case. When she first laid eyes on it, she froze. It was far bigger than she could have imagined, the teeth made it look more terrifying and its red eyes were even greater incentive for her to run the other way. The mere presence of it held power, power which was unlike any other before, one which was merely the tip of the iceberg that could crush anything in its path. Its size was also a great indicator for pure strength as was standard to the legends of great dragons. Regardless of all of that, she ran as fast as her legs would carry her directly for the library, hoping to her mentor Princess Celestia that she wasn't too late.
Author's Note
AN: That was my first attempt with a Godzilla/MLP crossover. And what a way to start. If you haven't figured it out yet, I am using the big bad of the Godzilla series; King Ghidora in his Grand King incarnation. This incarnation of King Ghidora however, has been altered to my preferences for two reasons. 1; I genuinely love the Rebirth of Mothra 3 Grand King design, but its abysmal height of 60 meters among other measurements was something I didn't really like as much as the other ones. Instead, I decided to go with Heisei measurements. Why? Because the king of terror, good or no, deserves to be massive and fearsome like one would imagine him to be. I hope you won't criticize me too much for this and hope you enjoy this fanfic.
Chapter 2, Discovering A New World
(Dragon P.O.V.)
The dragon kept flying after Nightmare Moon as she kept going through the forest, she whisked through the trees, past a river among other things, never slowing down. The Dragon wondered briefly if she knew she was being followed before she reached a very old and rotting castle, one which he landed next to. His landing caused a loud boom as some dust was kicked up. As he looked inside, he saw the mist reform into Nightmare Moon's solid form. She looked up at the dragon and scowled as she flew up and landed on a part of the castle roof. "Who are you?" She asked as she looked somewhat unnerved at the sight of him. "That is something I do not know..." The dragon said verbally as it had its three heads looking down at Nightmare Moon, a curiosity glistening within their eyes. As he spoke, the mare looked confused. "How do you not know your name? You are a dragon, I thought you couldn't lose your memory if you tried!" She said with great confusion. The dragon shook one of its heads. "It is something I do not understand either, the best I can surmise is that my memories were either erased, or simply locked up, something which I am unable to grasp fully at the moment." He might have seemed clueless due to his memory loss, but he was extremely intelligent despite this. "Either way, am I not allowed to know who you are?" He asked as the mare snorted. "Very well, I am Nightmare Moon, the rightful ruler of Equestria and the bringer of eternal night." She stated as the dragon raised an eyebrow. "Would that not be detrimental to all life here?" He asked as Nightmare Moon was taken aback. "What?" She asked in the shock of a question being asked was something that she was apparently not prepared to answer. "According to my logical reasoning, without the sun, the world would have its temperature drop and the entire ecosystem would go out of whack, resulting in such a low temperature that nothing would live." The dragon explained as Nightmare Moon was severely taken aback by this. "Lies! That is untrue!" She stated as she stomped a hoof. "Only time will tell you if you are right or wrong! You will find out whether or not you can actually back up your claims!" She stated as she turned into mist and she vanished into the castle, leaving the massive dragon to his thoughts. If she was right, then what would that make him? Was she even right at all? His mind was filled with so many questions. He took to the air again as he flew off to an area of the forest where he soon landed in a clearing where he was alone. He figured he would find out some answers soon, right now, he wanted to rest for a bit.
(Twilight P.O.V.)
Twilight's mind was a mess. Sure she had managed to get past a few troublesome areas such as a cliff collapse, a Manticore blocking her path, freaky-looking trees and a serpent which was crying over his torn mustache, mostly thanks to her new companions, one thing was still severely troubling her. That golden dragon she had seen, where was it? If it were to be a major player in the grand scheme of things, why wasn't it trying to let itself be known? It should have caused some sort of conflict. For the side of good or evil, she didn't know. As she was in her thoughts, she was interrupted by a hoof tapping her on her shoulder, from Applejack, whom had a look of concern on her face. "Twilight, are ya all right?" She asked with concern as Twilight sighed. "I... I don't know Applejack, I just... all of the signs have been right up until now, about Nightmare Moon's appearance and... and I just don't know if something went wrong... or if it was some mistranslated paragraph... it's just something that's driving me crazy!" She said as another of her companions, Rainbow Dash, rolled her eyes. "You're still on about that?!" She demanded as another companion, Rarity, spoke up. "As much as I hate to side with Rainbow Dash, I must admit, you're being somewhat overly obsessive about the whole thing." She said as Twilight groaned. "I'm not trying to be! But everything fell into place except one thing; the golden dragon I saw earlier! It hasn't shown itself since I saw it over Ponyville!" She stated as Rainbow snorted. "A golden dragon? Pshh, big deal, that's nothing compared to the current threat of Nightmare Moon! I'm not scared or anything, but I do not want to live in the dark forever! Catch my drift?" Rainbow said, placing emphasis on how she did not want to live in eternal night.
"I know Rainbow! I just can't understand as to why it would not make itself known like I would assume it would have. It was said that it would appear the same time as Nightmare Moon, and that was right, but I don't get as to why it's hiding from us on such an important day!" Twilight snapped back as she then saw something ahead. She froze once she saw what it was, it was none other than the same golden dragon that she had seen over Ponyville just a few minutes ago. Its scales gleamed a bright gold in the moonlight, its heads having their eyes closed and lying on the ground in a resting manner. Its wings were resting on the ground as it didn't seem to be able to tuck them in and its tails were curled up around its body on the ground like a snake or other reptile. Everyone kept quiet as Twilight turned to the others. "Girls, stay as quiet as possible and don't make a lot of noise!" She whispered as the others nodded and kept quiet as they silently walked past the massive slumbering dragon as fast as possible. However, they didn't notice a rubber duck fall out of Pinkie's mane, at least not until it was too late as Fluttershy stepped on it and made it squeak. This made every pony freeze as Fluttershy saw the duck underneath her hoof, then she looked up at Pinkie with wide eyes, same with Pinkie who looked back and then at the duck itself. "I knew I should have kept my hammer-space more secure!" Pinkie muttered as suddenly, as Fluttershy looked right up at the eye of the dragon, it snapped open, revealing the glowing red orb underneath the eyelid as the dragon began to get up. Fluttershy screamed as she hid behind every pony else as they all huddled together in pure terror at the massive monster that was in front of them. Soon, it rose to what Twilight estimated to be 100 meters in height and it looked down at them all. Its eyes glinted with curiosity as it stared down at them all, looking over each one.
After a full 60 seconds of silence, the dragon actually spoke, a voice like no other being heard coming from its mouths. "Who are you?" It asked them all in a deep, baritone voice which scared them all. After several seconds, Twilight gulped as she spoke up. "M-m-my name i-is... Twilight S-S-Sparkle." She said as the dragon nodded. "And the others?" It asked as they all introduced themselves slowly. Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash were able to say their names audibly, but Fluttershy wasn't. So they told the dragon in front of them her name so as to not cause an awkward moment. "And what are you doing out here?" The dragon asked as Twilight debated with herself as to whether or not to say what they were going to do here. However, that decision was made for her. "W-we uh... were here to stop miss meanie pants 'Nightmare Moon' from causing eternal night!" Pinkie said quickly as Twilight looked at her with wide eyes, then she closed her eyes and sighed before she turned and looked back at the dragon. "That's right. We came here to stop her, her eternal night can't be allowed to continue, I was simply afraid you would try to stop us." She explained, which the dragon raised an eyebrow at. "From how she spoke, she seemed like a person whom is at least decent in moralities, she didn't believe me when I told her it would be deadly. I don't believe she knows the dangers of this eternal night." The dragon stated intelligently as Twilight's eyes widened. "You're not thinking of defending her! Are you?!" She demanded as the dragon shook one of its 3 heads. "No, I will not allow her to keep this eternal night, but I also will not allow her to come to harm. You had best keep to yourselves." The dragon stated firmly as Rainbow Dash snorted, steam seeming to come out of her nostrils as she spread her wings and she pawed at the ground with her hoof in an aggressive fashion. "No way! We're gonna get Nightmare Moon in a dungeon and that's that!" She said sternly as she was ready to leap to attack at any second. "You will not, because I will not allow you to." The dragon stated as it then spread its wings and it flew upwards, headed in the direction of the castle and soon disappeared.
Twilight and everyone else were shocked as they stood in complete silence for several minutes. "S-should we keep goin'?" Applejack asked, unsure of what to do at that moment. Twilight gulped as she shook herself out of her stupor. "We should, no matter what." She said, determined to stop Nightmare Moon at just about any cost.
(Dragon P.O.V.)
That went about as bad as it could've. He knew that first impressions were extremely important, but he couldn't help but speak his mind. He didn't want Nightmare Moon locked up like a criminal or perhaps even killed because of what she did or will do. His eyes glowed a brighter red than before in confusion and annoyance over how he couldn't convince them about their intentions otherwise. He soon came upon the castle and landed next to it. He didn't make himself known however, he stayed in the shadows and he kept quiet. He waited for a long time, being a patient being after all, as he soon saw the 6 mares walking towards the castle and one nearly fell over the cliff. He then saw the light blue Pegasus, Rainbow Dash if he remembered correctly, fly across the gap and begin to repair the bridge. A heavy fog rolled in as he heard new voices speak to Rainbow. He overheard them offer her something, something that would not allow her companions to continue. Rainbow denied as the voices went completely silent. The fog then cleared as he saw the mares go into the castle, he kept completely silent as he watched from the windows, making certain he would not be noticed. He then saw them reach several stones with grey gems in their centers and figured they were some kind of weapon of sorts. From what he overheard the lead unicorn, Twilight her name was, say about them, they were called the Elements of Harmony. He wasn't certain as to what they were to do, but he watched. After a few minutes, he felt a spike in some kind of energy and saw the Elements get sucked into a vortex. He also saw Twilight jump in as both she and the Elements vanished. He was surprised at this, but he kept quiet. He then felt another spike in a separate tower and saw Twilight and the Elements both appear inside the room within. He knew this was Nightmare Moon's doing. He leaned over and saw Nightmare Moon gloating about how she had won and Twilight didn't seem to be backing down. She outright charged at Nightmare Moon full speed with her horn blazing with purple energy. Nightmare Moon charged as well, only her horn was not giving off any energy.
When he thought the two were going to collide, he saw Twilight vanish in a flash and reappeared next to the elements on the other side of the room. He saw her use her energy to try and jump-start them, but he somehow knew that wouldn't work. He was proved correct when he saw the Elements did absolutely nothing. Nightmare Moon laughed at this as she knocked Twilight away and broke the Elements with a shock-wave from her front hooves stomping right next to them. She then boasted that Twilight would never see 'her princess' or the sun ever again and that the night would last forever. He then saw Twilight's friends coming up the stairs that lead to the room and saw a spark in Twilight's eyes. Twilight then went on in a speech that made the Element shards glow and circle each individual. The Elements were known as Loyalty, Generosity, Honesty, Laughter and Kindness. The speech praised her friends as she turned back to Nightmare Moon, who stated that the sixth wasn't present because 'the spark' didn't work. Twilight just smirked as she stated that the spark had worked differently than Nightmare Moon could have ever imagined. He then saw another Element as it had a 6 pointed star as its design. The Element, which Twilight called the Element of Magic. Then, faster than he thought he could react, he saw a rainbow come from nowhere and sailed straight for Nightmare Moon. He bolted straight through the wall, making the entire tower collapse, and used his own torso as a shield. It struck him dead on as he let out a screech-filled roar in pain, it felt oddly familiar in a way, he didn't understand why as it soon ceased and he saw that it didn't do much, it only caused him pain, no true bodily damage. He saw the mares had survived as they had managed to somehow fall on top of the rubble. As for Nightmare Moon, she was hovering behind him with a shocked expression on her face.
"Why... why did you do that for me?" Nightmare Moon asked as the dragon turned to her. "I won't allow them to harm you, but you must cease Eternal Night." He stated as Nightmare Moon was flabbergasted. "I don't understand you! You save me, only for you to demand that I end Eternal Night?! What kind of Paradox are you!?" Nightmare Moon demanded as the dragon snorted. "I am merely a being trying to do what is right." He stated as Nightmare Moon then got an angered look on her face. "If you are not with me, then you are dead!" She screamed as her horn lit up and her eyes glowed white, a murderous look within them both.
